Thiswasourfirstfundraiserofthe serviceyear!Memberswereable toenjoysomedeliciousfoodand drinksfromtheYayaTeabythe school.Asthiswasneartheend ofAPseason,wehopeourkey clubberswereabletodestressat thisevent.Attheendweraisedup to$415.ShoutouttoYayaTea forcollaboratingwithus!
AfterschoolonMay25th,IattendedtheYayaTeaFundraiser,thefirst fundraiserofthisserviceyear!Iwasexcitedtoseemembersmeetupat YayaTeaandenjoytheirfavoritedrinksandsnacksthere.Initially,Iwas worriedthatIwouldbealonesincemyclosefriendswereunableto attend,butluckilyYijinandYoobinwerealreadytheresupportingthe event!WhenIwasthere,itwasprettybusyforsometimeasitwasthe endof9thperiod.Itooksomepicturesofkeyclubbersastheygottheir drinksandmadeuseofthecutewallwith"YAYA"writtenonit.Ihadto leavebytheendof10thperiodbutonmywayout,Isupportedthe fundraisermyselfbygettingadeliciousoolongbubblemilktea. Ihopewegettodoanothereventlikethisinthefuture!

Memberswereabletoteamup andcompeteatthisbasketball tournament.Itwasgreattosee bothplayersandspectatorshave funatthiseventastheymeet peoplefromotherschools.The winningteamevengottotake homeamoneyprizefortheir victory.Overall,weraisedaround $275fromthisevent.Staytuned forparttwolaterthissummer!
Goingintothebasketballfundraiser,Iwasnervousaboutbeingthere sinceIwasn’tsureifitwouldbeveryfun.ButIhadareallygreattime meetingsomanyotherpeoplefromotherschoolsandwhilethefinal matchwashappening,IplayedagamewithallthegirlsfromtheTech boardandCardozo.I’msoexcitedaboutthesecondfundraiserinAugust andIthinkeveryoneshouldgiveitachanceeveniftheydon’tlike basketball!
IhadalotoffunatthebasketballfundraiseronJune4th!Atthisevent,I wasabletomeetCardozoandMidwoodKeyClubexecutivesaswe spectatedthegamestogether.Watchingtheteamsplayremindedmeof howIusedtoplaybasketballwithmyfriendswhenIwasyounger. AlthoughithasbeenawhilesinceI'veplayed,Iwouldhavelovedtofinda teamtoplaywithatthisevent.IalsosawmanyoftheTechKey executivesatthefundraiser.Thiswasanicewaytochatandgettoknow oneanotherbetteraswehavejuststartedtheserviceyeararoundthis time.Unfortunately,IhadtoleavetheeventearlyduetoameetingIhad toattendlaterintheday.However,Ihopetomakeupforthistimeonce parttwoofthisfundraiserhappenssometimethissummer!

AtJapanFes,KeyClubbershelpedmanageand guidevisitorsandhelpedsetupthestreetfestival. ThiseventaimedtoshowJapaneseculturethrough food,music,andart.Whiletheywerethere, volunteerswereabletotrysomefoodfor themselveswhiletheywerethere.ShoutouttoKey ClubbersthatwenttoJapanFes!
IwenttovolunteeratJapanFeson6/10duringthe3PM-7PMshift, wherethevolunteersmainlyhelpedtohandlethefestivalandmakesure thateverythingwasinanorganizedmanner.ThemaingoalofJapanFes ismainlytospreadandappreciateJapaneseculture,usuallythroughfood andmusic.TheeventhappensalloverNYCatvariousdifferenttimes andit’sprettypopularaswell.Ididn’tgowithfriends,butIdidseealotof studentsfromtechthathaveworkedwithJapanFesforalongtime,a lotofthembeingseniorsandjuniors.Theeventoverallwasreallycoolas IgottoseesomanyuniquecuisinesandIgottoalsotalktosome peopleoutsideofBrooklynTechKey.
OnJune10th,IattendedtheJapanFeseventinHell’skitchen.Ihadn’t beentoafoodfestivalsincebeforethepandemicsoIwasreallyexcited tovolunteeratthisevent.WhenIarrivedthestreetswerefilledwithso manydifferentvendorsandtherewasquitealargecrowd.Iwasalittle overwhelmedatfirstbutmademywaytothevolunteerboothand signedin.DuringtheeventIhelpedmanagethelineforaboothfora bubbleteashopandgottotalktomanyinterestingpeoplewhileIwas volunteering.Therewerealsovolunteersfromotherschoolssoitwas wonderfulgettingtospeaktothem.AfterIwasdonevolunteeringsome ofmyfamilycametotheeventandwetriedsomeofthefood.Itwas amazingandIamdefinitelylookingforwardtoattendingfutureJapan Fesevents.

AtOSNYC,KeyClubberswereabletogameon withthepremiumeSportsequipmentavailable.The allinclusivepassgavemembersaccesstomany consolessuchasPS5s,XBoxs,andNintendo Switches.AllproceedsweredonatedtoKiwanis PediatricTraumaCenter.
OnJune19th,IattendedtheGamingCafefundraiseratOSNYC.This wasathreeschoolcollaborationwithmembersfromStuyandBronx Sci.Itwassuperchillwithverycooldecorandalargeopenlounge.In exchangeforyourID,wegotaccesstotheheadsetsandcontrollers. ThereareavarietyofgamestoplayonthePCsinwhichmanymembers cometoplaywiththeirfriends,apopulargamebeingValorant.OSNYC wasquiteaccommodatingwithawaterstationandpeopleorderedfood whiletheyweregamingsuchastheclassicburgersandfries.Throughout theloungetherewerePS5stationsaswellwhereIplayedStreetFighter withmysisterfromStuy.Therewereacoupleoldschoolvideogamesin OSNYCthatIenjoyedlikePAC-MAN!Overall,theNintendoswitchwas myfavoriteaspectasIplayedMarioKartandKirby’sDreamBuffetandI gottomeetnewpeoplefromotherschools.
OnMonday,June19th,IattendedtheGamingCafeFundraiserin collaborationwithBronxScienceandStuyvesantkeyclubsatOSNYCin manhattan.ThisfundraiserwastohelpKiwanisPediatricTraumaCenter. Atthisfundraiser,therewererowsofgamingcomputerforustoenjoy andevenduo-sit-down-gamestoplaywithyourfriends.Alotofthe peoplethatattendedjustseemedsochillandrelaxedwiththemallmic upandscreamingattheirteammatesonValorant.Iwentwiththreeof myfriends.I’msomeonethatwentwithzerogamingexperiencebut oneofmyfriendhadgamingexperienceandshehadguidemeonhowto playValorant.Iwassuperexcitedforthisfundraiserasitwasonethatall myfriendswereinterestedingoingbutI’verealizedgamingisnotfor meaftermanyroundsofmedyingwithinaminuteofplaying.The gamingcafefundraiserinvolvesalotofscreaming,laughing,andanger butitwasasuperfunandsuccessfulfundraiser!

AlleyPondParkEnvironmentalCenter
Thechanceofraincouldn'tstopusfromhavingfunat fieldday,oneofthebiggesteventsoftheyear.People wereabletoplayvolleyball,badminton,water-balloon dodgeballandmore.Therewasalsoabakesale,aface paintstation,andaconcert.Oneofthehighlightsof thiseventwaspayingtopieanexecutive.Shoutoutto themanymembersthatattendedthisevent!
Itwasarefreshingexperiencetowelcomethestartofsummerbreak despitetherainyweather.Ilovedtryingoutthemanyaffordableand cutehomebakedgoodsandbubbletea.Thebrowniesandchocolatechip cookieswereabsolutelydelicious!Therewereatonofdiverseactivities toparticipatein,andpie-ingtheexecutiveswasdefinitelysomething manylookedforwardto.Itwasdefinitelyroughbeingthepartythatwas gettingpiedbutIwasgladthatmymembersenjoyedtheexperienceof watchingandpie-ingus(LOOOL).Iwassogladthatsomanyofour supportivemembersmanagedtopullthroughandshowupregardlessof theweather!Theydefinitelymadeoureventmuchlivelierand interesting.
FielddaywasthefirstKeyClubfundraiserIactuallywenttoasanexec butitwasnonethelessextremelyfun!Iwentwithfriendsbothinsideand outsideofKeyClubfromdifferentschoolssoitwasagreatgettogether.Iwilladmitthatduringtheeventwherepeoplebeganpieingthe execsandcabinetmembers,Iwasveryscaredandpanicked.Afterall,it wasmyfirsttimegettingpiedandIkindofforgotthatIshouldn't breatheinshavingcreamsoitwasdefinitelyonehellofaride.Otherthan that,itwasfunmeetingwithmyfriends,takingpictures,buyingboba, andhavingfielddayintherain!
Iwenttotheeventaround11-5andthereweresomanypeoplethere! Theentirethingwasorganizedprettywellandthevibeswerestillinthe airdespiteitbeingprettyrainythatday.Ididn'treallyknowanyonewhenI wasgoing,butIcameoutoftheeventwithsomanynewfriendsand newplanswiththem.Ithelpedmecomeoutofmyshellandhelpedme establishmoreconnectionswithintheclub.Italkedwithalotofother studentsfromotherschools,whichwasactuallythebestpart.Itwasan eventwith9schoolsanditwasreallycoolseeingtheperspectivesand thediversitiesfromthoseotherschools.Italkedtoalotofkidsoutside oftechandalsokidsoutsidemyowngradeanditwastrulyanexperience thatIwouldneverforget.
OnFriday,June23,2023,Iattendedthe9schoolfielddaycollabatAlley PondPark!Ihelpedwiththebobastandwithmyco-treasurerGenesis alongwithourEATristanwhomadetheboba,oursingleserviceco-head Youerandourfundraisingco-headDivina.Wefilledupcupswithmilktea andbobaandservedittoourcustomers.Afewofourboardmembers alsotookupadvertisingwhichwasgenerallysuccessfulaswegained manynewcustomers.Therewereseveralotheractivitiestoparticipate insuchastug-of-war,eggandspoonrace,volleyball,andbadminton.Of course,weunderwentthemainattractionofpaytopieinwhicha numberofourexecutiveandcabinetboardgotpiedanditwasveryfun towatchandpieothersaswell.Thefielddayendedwithaconcertfor whichourbulletineditorRachelmadeareallycutesign!
OnJune23rd,despitetheanticipatedrainfallatthestart,keyclubsfrom9 differentschoolscollaboratedtoexecutetheannualFieldDayatAlleyPondPark. Iarrivedanhourearlytoassisttheotherexecutivesinsettinguptablesand equipment;especiallymemorablewasthebubbleteastationheadedbyourvery ownexecutiveassistantTristan!Ithinkthehighlightoftheeventformewas playingbadminton,myfavoritesport.Ibondedwithstuy’swebmasterJohnaswell asplayedagainstsomevarsityplayersonourveryownboard(humbling experience).Ithinktheeventwasaneffectivecabinetbondingexperience,andI gottoconversewithmanyofourclub’smembers.Beingaroundsomanypeople fueledmysocialspirit,andIremembermakingmultipleroundsthroughoutwith myfellowexecstoensurethatmemberswereenjoyingthemselves.Seeingmany familiarfacesmademerealizethenumberofconnectionsImadethroughKey Club,anditmotivatedmetocontinuedoingso.Ialsolovedtheconcertatthe end,itbroughtmanymemberstogetherandthebandwasincrediblytalented. Overall,Ilefttheeventsatisfiedandthrilledtobeatthenextone,andIcan’twait toattendmoreinterclubevents!
FieldDaywasoneofthebiggesteventsofKeyClub.Over200people cameforadayofpieing,gamesandsocializing.Suchgamesincludedtug ofwar,balloonpopping,volleyballandbadminton.Furthermore,asaKey Clubber,meetingfellowmembershasbeenoneofthebiggestappeals ofthisclub.ByattendingFieldDay,Imanagedtobefriendnewpeopleof allbackgrounds.Personally,thehighlightofthiseventwasthefactthat wegottopiemembersoftheboard.WhileIgotpiedmyself,itwasreally funtopieourpresident,secretaryandtreasurer.Thebandattheend wasbesttouchasitsignifiedthecommunitythatiskeyclub.Though wewereallfromradicallydifferentschools,thefactthatweallgot togethertolistenandrelaxshowedthestrengthofKeyClub.
WhenIfirstheardthisevent,Iwasnervousbecauseoftheamountof clubsthiseventwasgoingtohave.However,myfrienddecidedtogoand IalreadyknewIwantedtogowithher.Iarrivedat11:30amandIwasvery ecstaticbecausethereweresomanygames,butmostimportantly,the foodanddrinks.WhenIsawthatthebobawas5dollars,Iwas immediatelysold.Myfriendandherfriendarrivedalittlelaterandwe decidedtoplaysomegames.WeplayedtugofwarandImight’velostall therounds,playedbadmintonandIdestroyedeveryone,andcornhole, wheremyaccuracywasterrible.MyfriendsandIalsoplayedhideand seek!Itwasanoverallafunexperienceandsadly,Ihadtostayforonly twohoursbecauseofagameIhadtogoto…still,itwasfun.Imetso manynewpeopleandImetpeoplewhoIhaven’tmetinalongtime. 10/10
IattendedtheFieldDayfundraiseronJune23rd,myfirst fundraiserasacabinetboardmember.Assoonaswe checkedinnearthepark,wecouldseetheexecutiveboards ofnearlyallnineschools,thatattended,setupavarietyof differentboothsandstationswithinthepark.Weevengot tointerminglewiththeboardsofotherschoolsbecauseall theboardmemberswereassignedtocertainstationswhich spreadthemoutfromtheirownschools'boards.Forme,I wasassignedtothethree-leggedrace.Ofcourse,there wereseveraldifferentgamesandstationsscatteredaround theparksuchasvolleyball,badminton,andtugofwar. Unfortunatelyforme,itwasbothastruggletoputonthe strapsandtoactuallyfindthemforthethree-leggedrace. Fortunately,oncewegotstartedourpresident,Yijin,helped usadvertiseabit.Infact,sheevenjoinedusinthethreeleggedrace.Unfortunately,shewasdeadlast.Thedayonly gotworseforherasshegotpiednearlyadozentimesbyour boardwhichhelpedraisealargeamountoffunds.Atleast, theboardsandmembersgottohavesomefunwithawater balloonfightjustbeforethepieing,whichledtoanother roundofgames.Idecidedtocontinuewiththethree-legged raceandparticipatedmyself.However,Ifellflatonmybutt withthesameteammateYijinhad.Lastly,wefinallyhad somefunwithasmallconcertwithfourperformersthatdid spectacularlyatsomanypopularsongs.Aftertheywere donetheyevenallowedanybravememberstodokaraoke. Sadly,Ihadalongcommuteandcouldnotstay,stillIlook forwardtosimilarfundraisersinthefuture.
Fielddaywasincrediblyfun.WeraisedfundsforKiwanis,andwehadlots ofpeoplefromdifferentschoolscomeintosupportourfundraising. Everyonehadlotsoffunwiththesurplusofactivities,andweevenhad littlenametagsthatmadesocializingwitheverybodyeasier.Iworkedwith Tristan,ourexecutiveassistantinfundraisingbysellinghishomemade bobafor5dollarseach,thisexperienceallowedmetoengagewith peoplefromotherclubs--whichwasgreat.Ialsogotintouchwiththe execsfromotherschools,whichIwasreallyhappyaboutsinceIwas expandingmynetworking.IwentoutwithmywholeKeyclubboard,andI alsometlotsofpeoplefromotherclubs.Everyonewasreallynice,andit wasn'thardtomakefriendsatall.Theeventwasveryengaging,andIhad lotsoffunparticipatinginthepieing,badminton,andwaterballoon fight!!!
FieldDayoccurredonFriday,June23rd,2023.Itwasa9schoolcollaborationwith BrooklynTech,Cardozo,FrancisLewis,QueensHighSchoolforthesciences, Bayside,Midwood,Stuyvesant,QueensHighSchoolforlanguagestudies,and TownsendHarris.ThetypeofthingsofferedatFieldDaywere:temporarytattoos, freefacepainting,water-ballondodgeball,volleyball,cupstacking,badminton, beanbagtoss,balloonpopping,pietheboard,etc.However,duetotherainthat occurredthatday,manyfunstuffwerecanceledasthegroundwasallmuddyand thedaywasrainingonandoff.Ihelpedintheballoonpoppingstationandwewere tryingtogetpeopletoplayourgamebutnobodyseemedinterested.However, withthepeoplethatdidwanttoplayourgame,theyalllosttoWilliam—oneof BrooklynTech’sMajorEmphasisDirector—ashewasjustsoquickattyingthe balloons.Iwentwith4ofmyfriendsandweplayedvolleyballforhours;the originallywhiteballwassodirtyafterbeingtossedinthedirtywetgrassandbushes butitwasallworthitwiththelaughandrunningwehadtodo!Iwasn’treally excitedtogoasitwasrainingandthecommutewaslongbutIwasgladIwentasI metsomanynewpeopleandgottowatchourpresidentgetpied!
OnJune23rd,IattendedourannualFieldDayFundraiser.Itwasoneofour biggestfundraisersoftheserviceyearwherewecollaboratedwith8otherschools foracommoncause.Iwasreallyimpressedbytheeffortstheboardmembersput intotheplanningofthisevent.Itrangedfromlatenightdiscussionsandweekend zoomcallstosettleeverysingledetailoftheevent.Eventheraininthemorning contributedtotheeventasaK-dramascene.Therewereseveralfunactivitiesfor attendeestoparticipatein,oneofmyfavoritewasdefinitelypaytopie.Itinspired metosaveupandtohaveabetterfinancialmanagementtopieallmyboard membersnextyear.AbigshoutouttoourExecutiveAssistantTristanformaking qualitybobadrinkand1v20playersinvolleyballtogetthemtobuyboba.Iwould advertisehisbobabusinesstoeveryoneathousandtimesover!!Bothduringand aftertheevent,Iwasabletobondwitholdfriendsandmeetnewfriends.Itisone ofthosefundraiserswhereyoucanexpandyournetwork.Iwoulddefinitely recommendparticipatinginthisfundraiser.AllproceedswenttoKampKiwanis withmuchsuccess.

KeyClubbershelpedwithassemblinggarden beds,hanginguplights,cleaningupthegarden, andsettinguptheraincollectionsystem. Whilehelpingoutatthegarden,thevolunteers wereabletochatandgottoknoweachother better!
IattendedtheFordhamLot-BustersCommunityGarden volunteereventonJune24th.Infact,itwasthefirst volunteereventinwhichIwastheprojectcaptain. Unfortunately,theweatherthatdaywasveryrainywhichled toonlyasmallgroupofmembersshowingup,mostof themwhichIknew.However,tenminutesaftermeetingup wefinallybeganwithaverykindandoutgoingvolunteer Carolineinformingusaboutwhatthegardenneededtobe done.Atfirst,wehadtocleanupthegardenbypickingup anytrashthatflewin.Obviously,thiswasanimportanttask consideringchildrengotothisgardenandalotofthetrash wasdangerous.Luckily,Carolineprovideduswithgloves, trashpickers,bugspray,andwatertomakethetaskaseasy aspossible.After,wegottotakeasmallbreakunderaporch wherethevolunteerssimplychattedwitheachotherabout schoolworkandtheFieldDayfundraiserwhichhappeneda dayprior.Whenwegotbacktoworkweweretaskedwith movinglargebagsofsoiltowardtheinnersideofthegarden whichwasquitedifficultwitheveryonesweating.Atleast, wegottheopportunitytorestaton.Infact,Carolineeven encouragedit;sheevenheardhowtiredavolunteerwasand transitionedtowateringplantsandclearingoutdeadplants insteadwhichiswhatwefinishedoffwith.Thatwasforsure themostenjoyablepartthatallthevolunteersloved.Of course,ourvolunteersalsolovedpettingCaroline’sdog, Raven,whoshebroughtalong.Finally,weallcommuted hometogethersincewehadasmallgroupandmadesure everyonegothomesafeafteralongdayofwork.
Get excited for our first fundraiser of July! At this event, members (and non-Key Clubbers) will be able to enjoy a relaxing afternoon in a park with friends while DIY-ing their own tote bags. Anyone can attend so please encourage your friends to fill out this form if they are interested!

Come volunteer at the FABSCRAP Brooklyn Warehouse! FABSCRAP is a recycle and reuse service that aims to stop commercial textile waste and maximize the value of unused fabric. Volunteer duties will include sorting through fabric samples and readying them to be saved for reuse. As a thank you for volunteering, you will be offered fabric for free, as well as a 30% discount on any additional materials inside the store! There is a max of 20 people for this event.

Key Clubs in Division 9 had their first divisional in May! This was a great way to meet other schools and hear about the events that they had planned for the month. At the meeting, we also made cards for the elderly to brighten up their day. Stay on the look out for the next divisional!

The governor has chosen to support Room to Read for this year's governor's project. Room to Read is a non-profit organization that aims to end illiteracy and gender inequality.
The New York District has voted to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for this year's District Project. St. Jude's goal is to provide free treatment to children and, most notably, combat childhood cancer.
District Treasurer Rina Takai is choosing a treasurer for NYDKC's Treasurer of the Month. Nominate a treasurer who you believe has done a great job in their role. Fill out the form HERE.

The Key Club International Board of Trustees has proposed to increase the annual dues from $7 to $10 per member. This means that $10 of the dues paid by a Tech Key Member would go to Key Club International.
On June 28th, a virtual meeting was held to discuss this proposed amendment and to hear more opinions surrounding it. Get a better view of the posters HERE.
On July 5-9 at Anaheim, California, Key Clubbers worldwide get to meet at one of the largest events of the year. At ICON, there will be workshops, speaker sessions, contest results, and more. Although registration is over, you can read more about to convention HERE.
