PRESIDENT’S WELCOME A WARM WELCOME TO ONEHUNGA SPORTS, AND BIRKO LEGEND TOM BOSS, FOR ROUND 13 OF THE NRFL PREMIER LEAGUE. WITH ONEHUNGA JUST ONE POINT OFF TOP SPOT AND WITH US TAKING OUT THE AWAY FIXTURE 2-1, WE KNOW THIS WILL BE A REAL TEST. Our last home game saw what we hope was the turning of the tide, as we ran out 5-0 winners over Western Springs. A superb hattrick from Lachie, and great debuts from Ardri and Judd meant it could have been a bigger score and it was nice to see everything click like it did in 2018. I know how hard the boys and the coaching team have been working behind the scenes and it was particularly great to see Solly back on Shepherds no.1 after missing the first half of the season through injury. A big thank you to the players who have left us this week. It’s a really difficult challenge to keep everyone happy in a large playing squad with so much talent, especially when players are coming back from injury.
One for your diaries – The AGM will be held at 7pm Wednesday 21st August. Please try and make time to come along, as whilst we’re reporting on the previous twelve So, on behalf of the Club I’d like to wish all the months, we like to focus on what the Club is best to Luke Bulay, Jarrod Young, Jake Mechell focusing on in the future. (who has been incredibly unlucky with injuries in his time with us) and Harry Bolton-Roberts If you would like to ask any questions please (who played such a big role in last year’s email them through to neil@buafc.org.nz Chatham Cup ride) as they move on to gain and I’ll try my best to cover them off on the more first team football. night. On Monday night we ran our first ever Football Philosophy workshop for parents, focusing on how to support your child to be successful in sport.

The nomination forms will be coming out shortly. Please get in touch if you’re interested in finding out more about joining the committee or, helping out our football
community in some form of project-based role. Alternatively, please visit: https://birkenheadunited.org.nz/volunteer/ to add your details to our Volunteer database. Everyone has something to offer and every little bit helps. Thanks to Shaun Matthews, Community Coach Advisor from Harbour Sport, Shane Verma, Player Development Coordinator from NFF and our own Tony Readings for leading the really well-attending, interactive session. Based on parent feedback we will certainly be running more sessions like this in the future. Finally, a big thank you to our awesome neighbours, The Good Home Birkenhead, who have added a signed Birko 2018 Chatham Cup winner’s shirt to their wall (pictured). The Good Home is a venue owned by the Birkenhead Licensing Trust, who are our biggest funding partner, and help us to deliver grassroots football. Please support The Good Home as they support our football. Let’s go Birko! Cheers, Neil Coventry Birkenhead United Club President

COACH’S COMMENTS WELCOME TO MIYA AND ONEHUNGA SPORTS FOR THIS AFTERNOON’S ROUND 12 LOTTO NRFL FIXTURE. First of all, congrats Miya on your U20s campaign with the Junior All Whites. Onehunga are without doubt the benchmark of NRFL football , their strength is outstanding – not only in their senior football, but all the way through to their junior and youth grades. It’s only a matter of time before Onehunga Sports are in the National League and deservedly so.
an injury plagued time during his spell at the club, and we hope that his body gets right for summer league as he’s a fantastic talent and will be a massive asset for Eastern Suburbs – both in the Lotto NRFL and the ISPS Handa Premiership. I’d also like to extend a special mention to our junior coach Jason Higgins who has really driven our skills centre accreditation efforts as well as doing all that jason does a fantastic job with the 11th grade teams
A special welcome back to Tom Boss today and thanks for all his efforts when he played for Birkenhead United. It should be a great game for all out here supporting today, enjoy. We also say a Goodbye to a few players Harry’s Bolton-Roberts moves to Waitakere Cheers, City due to work commitments etc, so we’d Paul Hobson like to thank Harry for his efforts in his time Birkenhead United Head Coach with us – especially after he was heavily involved in our Chatham Cup run last season. Luke Bulay and Jarrod Young who have both moved back to fencibles thanks you boys short stint hopefully you can both help keep Fencibles up and safe from relegation. Jake Mechell has also signed for Eastern Suburbs. He has unfortunately suffered

FIRST TEAM MATCH REVIEWS ROUND ELEVEN
5-0 BIRKENHEAD UNITED vs NORTH SHORE UNITED SATURDAY 8 JUNE SHEPHERDS PARK
STARTING XI: Hirst, Darkwa, Solomons, Gray, Lobo, Edwards, Dymond, Green Baker, Debenham, McIsaac A really fantastic performance a convincing win where we just played really well, Judd and Ardri making a massive difference. We never gave springs a chance to settle into the match. Judd and George were dangerous all game up top. Really solid in midfield and a clean sheet to top it all off. GOAL SCORERS: Birkenhead United 5 (Baker, McIsaac (3), Edwards) Western Springs 0 MAN OF THE MATCH: Ardri McArthur
