PRESIDENT’S WELCOME On behalf of Birkenhead United I’d like to welcome everyone to the Kaipatiki Derby, my favourite day on the NRFL football calendar. I don’t know how we swung it but my Over 35’s team happen to have a bye today, so I’m really looking forward to watching both the Development Team and First Team rather than wheezing my way around field three. As ever Birkenhead and Glenfield are separated by just one point in the NRFL table and with both sides having had a mixed run of results to date, both will be eager to get the win that kicks their season into gear. I know the ‘12th-man’ of the Red & White Army will be in great voice today and give the boys all the encouragement they need, particularly NZ Under 17 Goalkeeper Luca Taylor, who will be deputising for Damo following his red card down in Hamilton.
The creation of a ‘Football Philosophy’ is a key requirement of the NZ Football Youth Licencing accreditation that we’re currently working towards and this document is arguably the most comprehensive clublevel document if its kind in the country. As a development club we aim to play an important role in building the depth of playing talent, to help New Zealand achieve success on the world stage. Whilst our goal as a community club is to support all players to reach their potential and develop a lifelong love of the game.
I encourage all players, parents, coaches and members to read and embrace this document as our blueprint for continued and even greater success on the field. A huge thank you to Tony, Keith, Hobbo and everyone who has contributed to the Best of luck to the Women’s First Team who creation of the BUFP and to my other half take on Takapuna at Taharoto Park on Sunday. Lynne (yes, I want the brownie points!) for With an incredible 29 goals scored in their first her awesome design work. three games of the season (although not all at the right end of the field) they are unrivalled in Lastly, a big thank you to Life Member Peter terms of on-field entertainment. Coach John Greenwood and NZ Safety Blackwoods for their continued support in the creation Selby has clearly been watching too much of Kevin Keegan’s 90’s Newcastle team, so they’re of both new signage and honours board collateral for us. Unfortunately his United definitely worth a watch. team couldn’t do Liverpool a favour last Today I have the pleasure of launching week, but he does lots of them for Birko, so a Birkenhead United’s Football Philosophy big thank you PG. (BUFP) document, copies of which can be Let’s go Birko! found both online and in the Club. This document is a reference for how all Birkenhead United teams play football and how together we can create the best possible environment to develop our players.
Let’s go Leicester! ;)

COACH’S COMMENTS WELCOME TO CHAD, CARL AND THEIR GLENFIELD ROVERS SIDE FOR TODAY’S ROUND 7 FIXTURE. Today we’re hoping to turn our recent results around. Whilst performances have been good, we’ve been on the wrong side of a few things, some beyond our control, that have cost us. But the boys are fit, working hard and upbeat so hopefully the hard work starts paying off soon.
have a read beacause it’s awesome and really shows the direction of where our club is heading. There are some exciting times ahead. A big thank you to everyone that helped put it together.
Thank you to all our supporters and sponsors that have made it out to Congraultations to Lachie McIsaac and Jake Shepherds Park again this afternoon – Mechel who are the standbye list for the I know the boys really appreciate your NZ U20 World Cup squad. I know how hard continued support. they work and they’re unlucky not to be making the trip. Cheers, Paul Hobson A massive congratulations also to Birkenhead United Head Coach Nathan Lobo, Levi Wilson, Corbin Piper, Nicholas Milisich and Luca Taylor who have been selected for the NZ U17s training camp. Finally, as Scholsie says today sees the launch of our Football Philosophy document. For me this is really exciting as it puts onto paper my on-field vision for the Club and articulates what we’ve been aiming to implement since I first arrived many years ago. Please take the time to

1-2 BIRKENHEAD UNITED vs CENTRAL UNITED
HAMILTON WANDERERS vs BIRKENHEAD UNITED
STARTING XI: Hirst, Gray, Darkwa, Hobson, Foulds, Jorgensen, B.Kelly, Turner, McIsaac Young, Connor-McLean, Mechell
STARTING XI: Hirst, Gray, Darkwa, Foulds, Jorgensen, Young, Bolton-Roberts, McIsaac, Green, Connor-McLean, Mechell
Our first home game of the season, we had bumper crowd great game just not the result we were after. We put in a good performance against a strong Central team.
Battled hard but beaten by a stronger physical team on the day. Injuries hit us hard with Turner, B. Kelly and Mechell all picking up knock that’ll keep them out for a lengthy spell.
Alex getting us level before HT. Both teams had big chances with Damo pulling off some great saves.
Alex Connor-McLean scored a brace to continue his good run of goal scoring form but we’ll be without Damo for a few weeks following a red card. Thanks to all the supporters that travelled down to support the boys.
