"What a strange machine man is! You fill him with bread, wine, fish, and radishes, and out comes sighs, laughter, and dreams." Nikos Kazantzakis "Zorba the Greek"
uman beings... What a strange mixture of everything that contains the planet that gave birth to us! Through our veins run the minerals that the Earth hides deep inside; In our body, as in that of the planet, water fills our rivers with diverse "waters"; the same electricity that illuminates the storms of our skies, shake our nervous system... Systole, diastole, with each breath, we transform oxygen into carbon dioxide... A living body, a laboratory of bacterial symbiosis, fruit of millions of years of evolution, of adaptation, a body that is held by an invisible flame that animates it, awakens it or leaves it, when its time comes. We human beings are capable of carrying out the most wonderful things, but also the most horrible ones. All the energies that fluctuate on our planet and in its skies, surround us, envelop us and sometimes cage us; some destroy us, while others cradle or seduce us with promises, presents and attentions. Nothing is alien to us, because all the elements of the planet cohabit in our being so that consciousness occurs. Man is a synthesis of the Planet, and like it, holds a huge potential for both light and darkness. However, most of its inhabitants pass through it unwittingly, ignoring all this and repeating like a litany the first person of the singular at each moment, as an incessant, desperate and conflictive mantra; for when I say "I", I'm marking a line on the ground; when I divide, I create the space for future confrontation; when I say "I", and only "I", I become an insatiable monster, whose only mission and objective will be more and more of the same. Quantity is never the answer, since the latter deals with the subtle, the qualitative, the transformation and the transcendence. While the first operates on a single plane the second will lead you to new constructions and realities. You grow upward! Widthwise you can only get fat! How poor it is to believe that everything begins and ends in that body with which they identify and with its drives, to think that is there where everything begins and ends, and where their ultimate identity lies. Man takes pleasure in all this for a while, but sooner or later life places him for love or pain, before his limits, his finitude, and disenchantment arrives at your port to ask you: Is this all? Much has been said over the centuries about such a mystery. Brainy thinkers, famous scientists, enlightened prophets have pursued hidden answers, behind a veil of appearances that each culture modulated, which each time transformed into their own dilemmas.
H
"A single desire fills my mind: to discover what is hidden behind the visible, to pierce the mystery that gives me life and then takes it from me, and to know if an invisible and immutable presence is hidden beyond the incessant flow of the world." Nikos Kazantzakis
There have been so many wayfarers that have lost the Moon for looking at their finger, enraptured as they were in their own conjectures and in need of handholds. Man, however, advances in his search as a group, but the realization of any achievement on this path to the mystery can only be personal. 'Damn the man who believes in another man!' goes a Shizen saying. Although the paths can be common to more than one individual, the day lived will always be individual and the answers singular, because ultimately the infinite has infinite readings. Like each snowflake, we have a unique and unrepeatable structure and that prism polarizes the light in a unique way. An unfailing step, so all the great ones declare, is to get out of the ignorance snooze, to awaken from the lethargy, from the daze of the one who is asleep to other realities. Consciousness is a great pyramid, to which only a few stones climb up to its summit, while millions support its base. Those above, necessarily less, necessarily smaller, have lost, carved in their ascension, much of the grosser aspects of a common nature. Mastership is more a sculpture in which we remove what exceeds, than a piece of pottery to which we add things. Our clay is not so moldable. We are born extremely predetermined, to live very different experiences; as those who know about all this say, to experience that for which our spirit is summoned. An army of "sleepers" hangs around the planet; stunned and perplexed, they try to make the world fit with their views and convenience, rather than looking at it face to face. This is the fact that awakening is not comfortable and inertia is a force hard to break unless there is a maintained and directed conscious effort. However, wrapped in their darkness, new lights are lit here and there every day, and sometimes their bearers know how to gather together to illuminate the darkness in which they were, so as to grow together. On the other side of the conscious unconscious paradigm, an army is continuously rearming itself, spreading light wherever it passes, leaving a trail of greatness, of impregnated lessons in each encounter, in each act, as one who unintentionally sows a field, simply by walking through it. Master is simply the one who jumped the wall that everyone feared, to understand the greatness of that change, and instead of staying there savoring the harvest of his achievement, went back up to the wall to warn his companions. Whatever, dear reader, the time and place of your personal journey, remember that perhaps everything your

senses perceive, what your mind is capable of framing, are not the limit of the possible for the capacity of your vital consciousness and experience. The moment you admit this possibility, life can become the adventure of consciousness and, as the great Nikos Kazantzakis, you can give yourself to his same yearning: "A single desire fills my mind: to discover what is hidden behind the visible, to pierce the mystery that gives me life and then takes it from me, and to know if an invisible and immutable presence is hidden beyond the incessant flow of the world." In that precise moment you can affirm that you are digging the prolegomena of a spiritual path. The one who complies is because he wants or fears! Happy day to all!

DVD Grappling with Master Tito Beltrán. By: Ricardo Diez Sanchis.
“Budo International” magazine is permanently searching so that its readers are informed to the maximum of all the news and progress that are generated in the broad overview of Martial Arts. This time, it has prepared a DVD with one of the best BJJ and Grappling Instructors, in which Master Tito Beltrán will dissect each position both offensively and d e f e n s i v e l y. U n d o u b t e d l y, a n essential DVD for all those who seek to deepen the ground fighting workout.
Grappling
Great Fighters Grappling, the human chess Undoubtedly, Grappling is the closest thing to chess as far as combat sports are concerned. When in a combat there is the possibility of hitting, all our "game plan" can be neutralized by a single blow. An isolated blow, a strike with the eyes closed, an accidental hit and the combat may start favoring our opponent, even if we had been dominating him till that moment with an insulting authority. In Grappling, it is almost impossible that these accidents occur; it stands to reason that the one who knows more wins the fight. Apart from sports regulations, where logically you can win on points, in pure Grappling you win by submission, that is, when you get the opponent tapping the mat in a gesture of surrender. Submission in the global strategic balance can be achieved in two ways: 1. When the opponent executes the attack faster than you can defend. 2. When the opponent attacks with a technique that you ignore, and on not having detected the threat, when you want to react is too late.
Grappling "Be like water" "Be water, my friend" has become one of the most famous quotes in history; it was one of the phrases pronounced by the legendary Bruce Lee, and it speaks of adaptation, the ability to fit to the different questions that a fight brings about is one of the greatest qualities of a good grappler. In this first DVD that Master Tito Beltrรกn offers us, he has wanted to start with advanced techniques, so that the student in his home can enjoy the visioning of a modern sport like Grappling, and see the fluidity with which the grappler moves to achieve an advantageous position, without sudden or violent movements, emphasizing the importance of adapting to the offensive and defensive movements that our opponent makes, in a "soft"

fight where the merciless end is to seek the submission of the rival, his surrender without palliatives. This is a DVD in which we will see how, from any position, we can get to the constantly sought opponent's back, the "utmost" for a grappler, because it scores very high and because from there we can attack to end the fight quickly and with authority. I'm sure you will agree with me that many times, after fighting hard to get to place ourselves behind, the opponent makes strenuous efforts - which on the other hand it's logical - to avoid that we make him tap on the mat in abandon and that competitive advantage gives us a sterile result; Master Tito Beltrรกn explains to us in great detail how to assure our position in a perfect way, and attack from there with the best guarantees. You surely know all the techniques that the Master explains, the secret of this DVD is that he applies them from any position; you will get to arm locks, leg locks, the Kimura and the "mataleรณn" from positions that you didn't even know and yet, they've always been there; in addition to knowing highly sophisticated new forms of attack, you will be able to go back to the techniques you already know and find out why they do not work. There you will find the "Rosetta stone", the key to good Grappling: the DETAIL. The smallest detail, the most insignificant fragment that goes unnoticed for an

uneducated eye is what turns a technique into lethal or unsuccessful. In the DVD you will know some of the principles that are universal on a tatami, so you can apply them when you train or compete, with Gi or NoGi, and even when the MMA reach that point in which it's better to know submission techniques because there's not enough distance for blows and consequently they don't have any hitting force. In this DVD you will also know concepts that you can apply in the positional battles; it is very important to secure the position, not lose it or give it; a position of advantage in combat is to have the initiative, you will achieve that your attacks to the joints are more effective and your strangulations much more strict, in short, more precise. What about the Passing the Guard? This is undoubtedly the most complex task of Grappling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Well, in this DVD you can find spectacular ways to break through the feared Guard of the opponent in a way as spectacular as effective. If you get stuck in this position on this DVD you will find some spectacular "magic" tricks to improve your position and to continue advancing in the tortuous path of defeating your adversary. And of course, you can enjoy some of the most powerful finalizations of

A bit of history Grappling was born of the passion of Sheikh Tahnoon Bin-Zayed Al-Nahian, son of the King of the Arab Emirates, for the first UFC encounters, when Sheikh Tahnoon discovered this sports activity during his university stay in the USA. He later became an excellent fighter reaching the degree of Black Belt of BJJ of hands of Professor Nelson Monteiro (Gracie Barra). When he returned to his country he spoke with his father, the King, to organize a "Vale Tudo" Championship in United Arab Emirates, but his father advised him not to do that type of competition, so the enthusiastic Sheikh Tahnoon Bin- Zayed, decided to make a tournament with the best "Vale Tudo" fighters of the time, in which blows were removed; thus was born Grappling and one of the most important events in the world today: the ADCC. In 1998, the first World Championship of Submission Fight or Grappling was held in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) During its history, in the ADCC World Championships has participated practically all the elite of the Submission Fight of the whole World, being outlined names as: Rodrigo Minotauro, Vitor Belfort, Ricardo Arona, Tito Ortiz, Royler Gracie, Dean Lister, Renato Babalú, Murilo Bustamante, Mark Kerr, Aleixandre Pequeno, Jeremy Horn, Fabricio Werdum, Vitor Shaolin, Ricardao Morais, Renzo Gracie, Mario Sperry, Matt Lindland, Aleixandre Soca, Matt Hume, John Lewis, Frank Triggs, Rodrigo Gracie, Carlos Newton, Oleg Taktarov, Ricco Rodriguez, Vinicius Magalhaes, Andre Pederneiras, Jean Jacques Machado, Ricardo Liborio, Fabio Gurgel, Saulo Ribeiro, Roberto Traven, Jeff Monson, Kikuta Sanae, Rigan Machado, Travis Fulton, Carlao Barreto, Kaoru Uno, Carlos Machado, Hayato Sakurai, Saulo Ribeiro, Jorge Macaco, Travis Lutter, Rodrigo Medeiros, Nino Schembri, Remco Pardoel, Genki Sudo, Takanori Gomi, Rolles Gracie, Tsuyoshi Kosaka, John Olav Einemo, Marcio Pe de Pano, Tom Erikson, Leo Vieira, Barret Yoshida, Marcelo García, Fernando Terere, Denis Kang, Ronaldo Jacare, Ryan Gracie, Fernando Margarida, Aleixandre Cacareco,

The DVD contents The DVD begins with a work from the "Defensive Guard", that is, Master Tito Beltrán is down; from this position we will be able to know different finalizations, from arm locks to strangulations and even, leg locks or how to go to the back In a second block, Master Tito Beltrán works from the "Half offensive guard"; this time he is up and the opponent has grabbed one of his legs. From this position, he teaches us to release the leg that we have trapped and of course, different finalizations: leg locks, guillotines, etc. In the third block he teaches techniques from the "Half defensive guard", that is, now it's he who is down and again will surprise us with leg locks and Kimuras, as well as different outings to improve our position. Of course, we have different ways of "passing the guard"; all of us who have practiced Grappling know the difficulty involved in "opening the guard"; in this DVD Master Tito Beltrán teaches us some ways to do it, all of them super spectacular!!! There is a block dedicated exclusively to the "Crossed" position; from the offensive point of view it is one of the most versatile positions because of the ease it offers to move from one position to another, as well as the great arsenal of attacks that exist from that position. Another advantageous position is "the mounted", a position in which Master Tito Beltrán will teach us an infinite number of technical resources to get the opponent beating the mat. The DVD will give us also the chance to know the "X Guard", both offensively and defensively. And of course, we will also know different attacks from one of the most feared positions: "the back." Without a doubt, a DVD with advanced techniques of Grappling so that you know the fluidity and the versatility of this sport, which in the near future will be accompanied by other Masters and other DVDs to make an excellent video library of this spectacular sport.

Smartial Arts – When We use Brain in Martial art - An Accomplished Martial Art Terrorism and the Art of Game By Avi Nardia “ You’ve got to be cruel to be kind” - Terror Mean – Fear Fear Cut deeper than any sword – That's the weapon of Terror "Everyone wants to be a Hero until it's time to be a Hero..." "My greatest fear is dying unaccomplished," because there is so much remaining to do and such little time to do it with the incredibly hectic lifestyle I have created. My teacher: Hanshi McCarthy Patrick. This sentence has run around my mind for years. At some point later in life I’d found Plato's words: "A hero is born among a hundred, a wise man is found among a thousand, but an accomplished one might not be found even among a hundred thousand men."
World experts e say ‘after the war, the bar is loaded with heroes’ we see it on FaceBook, how everyone's a weekend hero BUT as martial artists we want to be accomplished. Today we live in a world that claims to be ‘reality’, like a reality show, reality TV, reality Martial Arts and it seems that we are succumbing to the big illusion of inferior people playing with illusional lives. each instructor try make videos as he is the most devestating and fear killer cool instructor but forget that when we tecah martial arts we must teach compassion First. When we see the terror today its seem as Hollywood movies “September 11” and now each group want make much Mega terror incident to impress and win the crown of Best terrorist- thats why we call last workshop“ From Hollywood to Holly Land to Any Land “Now its not in Only part of world now terrorist is Virus that hit every place .Today, world-wide we all pay a big price for this game as we all face radical groups. The competition is for the title of who is more evil and brutal. Al Qaida look like a Disney fantasy compared to the newest evil groups. In an Israeli Army base there was once a sign that said: “My destiny is to live by the sword, for it is better in my hand than on my neck.” To fight back is the only way to deny evil. “You’ve got to be cruel to be kind.” In Israel we say “Who is merciful to the cruel would be cruel to the merciful.” Anthony Poshepne was a CIA legend (seen later in the movies) during the Vietnam war. When the CIA Station Chief questioned his body counts, he told the partisans to cut off the ears of the dead enemies, which he kept in a plastic bag. When Poshepne considered that he had enough ears, he forwarded them to the Embassy in Vientiane. Poshepne gained the respect of the Hmong forces with practices that were considered barbaric by agency standards. He paid Hmong fighters to bring him the ears of dead enemy soldiers, and on at least one occasion mailed a bag of ears to the U.S. Embassy in Vientiane to verify his body counts. He dropped severed heads onto enemy locations twice in a grisly form of psy-ops. By the way, he stopped sending ears to the CIA when he saw locals cut off their own kids ears because he would pay for ears and they needed the money to survive. That demonstrates the first law of human survival: first take care of yourself. On November 19, 1935, the British ship HMS Lord Rodney, a hijacked European ship, arrived carrying 500 Māori cannibals armed with guns, clubs and axes. They proceeded to enslave some Moriori and kill and cannibalize others. A hui or council of Moriori elders was convened at the settlement called Te Awapatiki. Despite knowing of the Māori predilection for killing and eating the conquered, and despite the admonition by some of the elder chiefs that the principle of Nunuku was not appropriate now, two chiefs — Tapata and Torea — declared that "the law of Nunuku was not a strategy for survival, to be varied as conditions changed; it was a moral imperative." A
W
World experts Moriori survivor recalled: "[The Maori] commenced to kill us like sheep.... [We] were terrified, fled to the bush, concealed ourselves in holes underground, and in any place to escape our enemies. It was of no avail; we were discovered and killed - men, women and children indiscriminately." A Māori conqueror explained, "We took possession... in accordance with our customs and we caught all the people. Not one escaped....." The invaders ritually killed some 10% of the population, a ritual that included staking out women and children on the beach and leaving them to die in great pain over several days. The Māori invaders forbade the speaking of the Moriori language. They forced Moriori to desecrate their sacred sites by urinating and defecating on them. After the invasion, Moriori were forbidden to marry Moriori, or to have children with each other. They became slaves of the Ngati Tama and Ngati Mutunga invaders. Many Moriori women had children by their Māori masters. We see again in history that being a vegetarian and human keeping high morals is great, but sometimes against our basic survival instinct we need to fight cannibals with no ethics or morals or any code, otherwise we can become slaves to the barbarians that rape and murder us and later serve us up as food. This brings me to the first human instinct, the survival instinct, that many have forgotten. France’s terror attack, like the USA’s September 11th attack reminds us of the first rule: if we plan fight back - we have to be cruel to be kind. The art of war is not to grow flowers and shleter the rest of us from seeing man’s dark sides, the evil we want w to forget and ignore but that we can’t. We’ve already found the enemy and decided to play the game called "burn the boat”: The point of no return, which is the point beyond which one must continue on one's current course of action because turning back is physically impossible, prohibitively expensive, or dangerous. When Hernán Cortés and 600 men arrived in Mexico in 1519, after a long and treacherous voyage across the Atlantic, he gave a rather interesting order. Burn the boats. The Spanish conquistador’s order was given prior to his stunning mission of battling, defeating and plundering the riches of the entire Aztec Empire - to prevent any return. Terror today plays the same game as burn boat: there is no return point. The game of ‘chicken’ is a game in which two drivers drive towards each other on a collision course and one must swerve, or both may die in the crash, but if one driver swerves and the other does not, the one who swerved will be called a ‘chicken,’ meaning a coward to his peers. Now his peers must decide his fate , his status. In France we say Vaut mieux prévenir que guérir - "It is better to prevent than to heal," But this already late to prevant BUT world wide we can see as - Tous pour un, un pour tous. "All for one, one for all" (from Les Trois Mousquetaires [The Three Musketeers] by Alexandre Dumas) - LETS WIN on TERROR as ONE

Lei Tai, translated as "high stage", is a familiar term for martial artists of traditional Kung Fu styles. We associate it with the athletic competition in tournaments between two competitors, such as the high quality U.S. Inter national Kuoshu Championship Tournament in Baltimor e. But what is actually behind this term? Where does Lei Tai come fr om and how has it developed into what it is today?
Kung Fu
“Lei Tai has known no rules for centuries and was a platform on which it was about honour and not infrequently about life and death.
Kung Fu ccording to U.K. Kuoshu Federation the origins of the Lei Tai can be traced back to the year 221 BC, where imperial soldier competitions took place in a wrestling-like discipline (Shuai Jiao). The winner of such duels often waved prospects for coveted posts, such as for example trainers or bodyguards of the commander. The "conventional" Lei Tai has been known since at least from the Song Dynasty (from 960 AD), which was also used to organize a competition, to carry out duels and settle conflicts. There were so many different types of Lei Tai as today's numerous Kung Fu styles, but in principle it was always the same: a high stage on which a fight was carried out. Some sources report that new Kung Fu masters arriving in a village used this mean to make a name for themselves and to even take over the village. The newcomer should have set up the Lei Tai stage by hand and then challenge all the fighters present on a particular day. It was not infrequent that the new master or his partner were selling their homemade medicine (Dit Da Jow) besides the Lei Tai to treat the wounded. If the new champion defeated all challengers, he would have then become the new champion of the village. His school or his doctor's practise would have known a guaranteed success. It can be assumed that those relatively "peaceful" battles would have seldom resulted in deaths. Others people have also reported about private duels and disputes (for example, between gangs or schools) which have been carried out on the Lei Tai. In all versions of the Lei Tai, there were no rules except that the one who fell or dropped from the Lai Tai stage had lost the fight. In the case of very serious disputes, it was normal for the participants to sign a contract, that in case of death would forbid his relatives to take revenge on his opponent or the opponent's family. Some sources also report that Lei Tai stages were deliberately built so high that the loser could not survive a fall from the stage. Even poisoned weapons, spears and halberds would have been set up around the Lei Tai to ensure that the loser who falls from the stage would die.
A
Kung Fu In human history, it has been shown that almost every culture has developed a kind of wrestling or fight to measure oneself without having to die. In the case of Lei Tai, this is of course the Asian / Chinese version of this wrestle. With the difference that, depending on the circumstance, conditions could change to a battle for life and death. Lei Tai developed itself over the years, however not even 50 years ago would fighters in China / Hong Kong sometimes still die during Lei Tai fights. This is different today and is at the same time in a certain dilemma: the rules should prevent in the present time that someone dies in a Lei Tai fight, but at the same time these rules need to let the seriousness and tradition of the art alive. To list all the rules would be beyond the scope of this article. The most important features of today's Lei Tai are probably the following: - If possible, the fight is like in the past carried out on a stage. - Attacks on particularly sensitive parts such as the eyes, genitals, joints, etc. are not permitted. The use of force is not restricted as long as the technique has been carried out in a controlled manner. - Unethical, uncontrolled aggressive or disrespectful behaviour of a fighter is punished with disqualification. - Protective equipment includes helmet (with lattice or mouth guard), protective cup (men), 4 OZ gloves, long trousers (uniform), soft shoes / Kung Fu shoes (uniform), T-Shirt from the competition's organizers. The most important frequently asked questions about Lei Tai:
What is the difference between Lei Tai and Sanda? Sanda also considers itself as a sporting version of the duel in Asian martial arts, but, unlike Lei Tai, does not come from the Kuushu (traditional Kung Fu) scene but from Peking or from modern Wushu circles. With Sanda, the sport's components are even more prominent, for example, one fight in a boxing ring with thick boxing
Kung Fu “In the case of very serious disputes, it was normal for the participants to sign a contract, that in case of death would forbid his relatives to take revenge on his opponent or the opponent's family.
gloves (10 OZ or more). A clear difference regarding the uniform can be noticed, as Sanda fighters wear boxer shorts and are bare chest. The differences in the rules are relatively small.
What is the relationship between MMA and Lei Tai? Unfortunately, many people, especially younger people in the West, hold today MMA ("Mixed Martial Arts") as the last wisdom within the martial arts. Certainly, from my point of view, the MMA can be regarded as trying to combine the best of all available. It is a very nice idea, which many Chinese people already had 5000 years ago and successfully combined in today's proven, efficient and famous Kung Fu styles. This constitute a kind of similarity between Lei Tai and MMA, with the big difference that MMA was built from the beginning on rules. Kung Fu was designed for the war. To be fair, rules were also set in Lei Tai few decades ago to protect the participants from death. However the original Lei Tai never took place with any rules. This is also the reason why Lei Tai, at least in our KUNG FU SCHULE MARTIN SEWER, is only an intermediate step towards a good fighter. In the end our martial art knows no rules. It was created for street fights and survival. In summary, there are always two sides for me when I talk or think about Lei Tai: on the one hand, we can be glad that it is now possible to go to a Lei Tai tournament with its resulting structure, rules and referees without directly having to fear for death. On the other hand, these rules naturally limit the possibilities of our fighters and of our art, which is equivalent to some kind of chain restricting the fighters. Depending on what it is, you will hear from me one side or the other. One thing I think we should never forget: Lei Tai has known no rules for centuries and was a platform on which it was about honour and not infrequently about life and death. Today not as much as then. On the other hand, we can cultivate and maintain a different value on the Lei Tai more than ever before: making new friends in combat.
Sifu Alfred Johannes Neudorfer and Sifu Rosa Ferrante Bannera, founders of Wing Tsun Universe - WTU, a movement which characterizes not by the use of techniques, but of qualities, exchanges, principles and concepts of movement - focus their first DVD in Siu Nim Tao (SNT) or "9 ways". The SNT is the basis of Wing Tsun, Wing Chun and WTU. The understanding thereof is the basic condition for everything that comes after, because if you observe the way people perform the sequences of this movement, you can easily deduce what they will be able to do. If something is wrong with the movement, everything the practitioner will later develop will be erroneous. WTU movements (forms) involve inherent functions from which can derive applications. The significance of the primary movements makes them derive in other movements and to generate applications based on the principles and interactions that help to their understanding. The WTU also incorporates an extra "set" its founders considered necessary due to the current circumstances. The DVD includes the Movement (form) Siu Nim Tao, its 9 sequences and applications, sequences 1 to 3 of the first movement with a training partner (Chi Sao) and a revealing interview with the founders of the WTU.

Get Involved! My name is Don Warrener and I am a Canadian karate bum now living in Brazil. I have a friend here – Jiu Jitsu Master Sylvio Behring – who recently invited me to a school of his for a grading in the favela (ghetto) just outside Rio. There were well over 100 students waiting for Sylvio with huge smiles on their faces. He is only able to get there once every 6 months because it is so far out of the area. The area is one of poverty and crime, so his driver carries a gun, just to be safe. As they started training, I saw a girl collapse off to the left. People rushed to her aid and I soon discovered that she had collapsed because she had not eaten all day; not out of choice but because she had no food. Then a teenage boy went down and, believe it or not, another one went down. In total, four kids collapsed and had to be revived. I was shaken to the very core. The girl was taken to a hospital; the others just left the class. My friend told me this was very common in this area of Brazil. He then told me that these young people do not pay for gradings or instruction; the church in which they train is provided free of charge. This is all they have, their martial art. Uniforms are donated or are ‘hand me downs’. Most train four times a week for 90 minutes each class. They have nothing else. Attaining a black belt is just a dream for these young practitioners, because on average it takes them 6 years to achieve a black belt
and there are no child black belts. Sylvio told me that, in some cases, their most valuable possession is their Jiu Jitsu uniform. Many of these young people get promoted to a different belt color and don’t even receive the belt because they can not afford it. This is the real Rio! I was in shock.!
Please post a photo of you and your students with the belts being donated to my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/don. warrener Thank you very much – Muito obrigardo meu amiga, amigos!
How You Can Help
Don Warrener is President of Warrener Entertainment. He began his karate training in 1966 in Hamilton, Canada under Benny Allen; he trained under Sensei Richard Kim for decades until Kim’s death and was promoted to 8th dan by the Father of Canadian Karate Masami Tsuruoka in 2008. Mr. Warrener has written numerous books, hundreds of articles and produced hundreds of martial arts video productions.
I decided to create The 100 Belt Project, which involves the donation of 100 belts to this deserving dojo. These belts will get circulated from one child to another for years to come, ensuring that each young person can wear the belt they rightfully earned. All colors and sizes are needed... and, yes black belts, as well. I witnessed a black belt grading where the black belt was very old and used, and probably handed down three or four times already. You might think that purchasing and donating 100 belts is the answer. However, sending used belts with all the pride and sweat infused from our own students to be passed with friendship and comradery to these Brazilian kids just means so much more! Please – make an announcement at the end of your classes about The 100 Belt Project, and ask your students to support this worthwhile endeavor by donating their old belts. Our goal could be met in a very short time. Remember: no new belts, only used ones.

Kajukenbo
KAJUKENBO / KOSHO RYU Silhouette / Focus / Peripheral Vision In this new article we will focus on the training of something that we call "Silhouette / Focus / Peripheral Vision". What does such name refer to in Kajukenbo? Well, it concerns the work we carry out in the so-called “Solo Training”, which we do in the Gym in front of the mirror, or like the shadow workout in Boxing.
Kajukenbo At this point you will keep wondering: But, what does it exactly mean? Well, very simple, it's something we forget very often in our daily practice. Whether we are training Punches, Counters or Tricks, Grab Arts or Palamas, etc., we must keep in mind the silhouette of our opponent or training partner if we want to perform our techniques accurately and in the right place of impact, because not everything serves in the search for speed or power; what will really make our techniques effective is the precision of hitting in the right place, so as to get the result we need for our Self Defense.
Kajukenbo
Kajukenbo It's simple and easy to work, just look for those reference points within ourselves when we perform our SoloTtraining; in this way we'll know at all times where and for what we are practicing on our own, and our training will make sense. But once realized this need and having in mind the Silhouette, it's time to explain that hitting in the precise place, as we commented, does have a name: Focus, and we can say that it's linked to the previous work principle. That's right, once we have that Silhouette, the next thing is the Focus, that is, to strike as we said in the right place to which that blow or defense is aimed; without these two principles our workouts will lose meaning, and above all, that effectiveness that characterizes us in the Kajukenbo. Another of the principles that we must take into account is the Peripheral Vision. What is Peripheral Vision? Something that we must always have in mind when performing our technique, and “in the end”. And what does “in the end” mean? It refers to the time when, after working the Silhouette and the Focus, you get the peripheral vision of our environment, in other words, potential opponents, objects, etc. Why? It's but clear! Because we can receive another attack from a dead angle, or find in our way objects with which we might stumble and that could make us lose balance or fall to the ground with all the dangers this entails in our goal to defend ourselves. As we advance in our workouts, we must focus them on reality, of course within certain limits to avoid injuring our partner; to this aim we have all kinds of protections to work with the maximum reality and power of our techniques, but always without losing essence of what we are working and why. We don't have excuses to not work and advance a bit more every day; a lot of people excuse themselves on the grounds that they not always have a training partner at hand; well, there you have a reason for the Solo Training, besides, you will not only work these 3 principles, but also coordination, speed, technique, displacements, times of execution and something very important: spatial relationship. What more can we ask for? As you can verify, it's a very important work in your Kajukenbo / Kosho Ryu Kenpo training. I must thank my Sifu in Kajukenbo KSDI and Kajukenbo Kosho Ryu Kenpo, SGM Cherry Ortega for everything here explained in reference to these Concepts / principles, and for his teachings and continuous support in the Art, the Science and the Spirit. All knowledge comes from sources passed down through generations and now it's in our hands. May it not be lost, and for that anything goes. From here I want to invite everyone interested to participate in the City of Ponferrada 8th International Seminary, in the celebration of the anniversary of our SGM Cherry Ortega. We will have a weekend full of various trainings, Kajukenbo, Kosho Ryu Kenpo, Eskrima, Judo, etc. We will work both in Gym and in full nature, that is, in the mountain and even in the water. We will have among us SGM Jose Ortega "Cherry", a living legend of Kajukenbo in our days, GM Zoraida Patiño, Sensei José Antonio and GM Licesio Prieto. It will be an opportunity to see in action all these principles that we expose here. You will also be able to know first-hand the history of the Art, the Science and something that we very often forget: the Spirit. Another of our novelties is the formalization and legalization of the European Kajukenbo Kosho Ryu Kenpo Association. Our website is fully operative for licensing, affiliation of clubs, Gym, teachers, monitor courses, European delegations of the EKKA, etc. Do not fall behind! We will also have a web Academy, organized work for the teaching programs step by step. We are waiting for you! For further information please contact osteokali@hotmail.com. GM Licesio Prieto. Krav Maga Israeli Survival System: the new Krav Maga frontier. After the success of his first DVD, Grandmaster Marco Morabito appears unprecedented in Budo International with a DVD dedicated to weapons: Morabito knowledge in both civil and military defense fields intertwines in an explosive mixture of technology and innovation. Nothing is left to chance and there are no secrets: with "experimentalis cognitio", the most common armed attacks are carefully examined paying utmost attention to every single detail. Diverse techniques with the most common weapons are analyzed, always bearing in mind that there is no such thing as a "universal pattern of aggression": the kinds of attacks are unlimited and so are the means of defense. Technique is only the basis of study to acquire and develop fluency and conscience of the movement, but the aim is that of making our defense instinctive thus shortening the time of reaction. As on the ring, we will never have the mathematical certainty of winning the bout, but we can greatly increase our chances of emerging victorious: "He who fights risks to lose, he who doesn't fight has already lost." Morabito, with his Israeli Krav Maga Survival System wants to break with the patterns and show the public something totally new, far from the regular old-fashioned techniques, emulated for decades. On this DVD, technique melts with experience and everything acquires clear and definite contours. Nothing is left at random and the most common mistakes are unmasked and analyzed. In the Israeli Krav Maga Survival System you will find an exceptional and authentic new method of self-defense.

What happens when two people practice Chi-Sao, what is the meaning of their practice and what the objectives? In this 3rd DVD, "Chi Sao from the base to an advanced level," Sifu Salvador SĂĄnchez addresses perhaps the most important aspect of Wing Chun: ChiSao, the soul of the system itself, which provides the practitioner with some special characteristics which are completely different from others, and gives him great virtues. This role deals with some aspects quite basic in principle, but as you delve into them, they'll be surprising to you. It is a very clear feature traditional Chinese culture; what it's very obvious at first glance, it nevertheless contains a second or third reading, which will surely change your approach, practice and understanding. We will discuss how to practice Chi Sao through our working drills and how to apply those drills, that ability in a sparring, linking certain concepts, perhaps not so much tied to traditional Kung Fu, such as biomechanics, structures, knowledge of physics, etc., in order to obtain better results in our practice.

The International Development of the KMRED Group The KMRED Group, that has developed the Technical and Pedagogical concepts of Krav Maga RED, is increasingly being requested to discover and develop this modern and minimalist selfdefense approach. First, the method has acquired its letters of nobility in the professional circles, army and security forces, seduced by its "pragmatism" and by the specific pedagogy that allows its learning and teaching.
Currently, many specialized military groups keep coming to France and other countries in order to get imbued with the system and acquire the necessary skills so as to use our concept for operational purposes. We have many recommendations and acknowledgments from these specialized units. In 2017, most of them will establish a long-term collaboration with our group. But the development of the Krav Maga R.E.D. concept is not limited to the professional sector; on the contrary, within the civil public it's acquiring now a high notoriety.
Over the last 2 years, France, the place of origin of the concept, has successfully organized more than 40 seminars which have been held in all four corners of the country, and courses have also been taught in many foreign countries, such as the Kingdom of Bahrain, with Ahmed Al Ghazal, who is Instructor and Group Representative for the Middle East.
Also Italy will begin now the development of the Krav Maga Research, Evolution and Development. This project emerged last summer in July when Mr. Alessandro Del Pia, President of one of the most important Krav Maga and Self-Defense Federations of Italy, FEDERKRAVMAGA, invited Mr. Christian Wilmouth (Chief Instructor and Technical Director of the KMRED Group) as one of the most important participants in the "13th International Self Defense Summer Camp" in Rome.
This allowed the meeting of a large numbers of instructors from different "streams" of the Italian Self-Defense. At the end of these four days of action and demonstration of the method, a group of practitioners, confirmed members of this Federation, including two instructors, came to the KMRED National Training Center (France) to be instructed in the specialties of our method. They integrated the KMRED Instructor program and this led to the organization of the 1st KMRED seminar in collaboration with FEDERKRAVMAGA, the weekend of January 20-22, 2017.
This seminar was held in Cortona, in the Tuscany, and was organized by the 'Squadra 17' Club by Denis Pucci and Alessandro Rugis Ruggiero, who on this occasion successfully validated their "Stricking" KMRED Instructor diplomas. The seminar lived up to expectations and promises and also welcomed our representative KMRED in Sardinia, Carlo Erriu, who always manages to be present when a seminar takes place near his island. In fact, after the course in Rome, Carlo, who is an instructor of various disciplines, organized the first KMRED seminar in Sardinia. Our collaboration with him and his commitment to the group led us to appoint him KMRED representative on his island until he finishes his studies of instructor of our method.
"I really want to congratulate you for the exemplary work that you people have done since our meeting, and especially I wish to thank you for the EXCELLENT hospitality you have granted me. From now I know that the" KMRED FAMILY Italia" is a reality and it will soon expand thanks to Denis Pucci, who now represents us in Tuscany, Alessandro Ruggiero who will bring the group colors in Umbria, and Carlo E r r i u w h o h a s S a r d i n i a u n d e r h i s r e s p o n s i b i l i t y. . . C. Wilmouth."
Therefore, today we are very happy to announce that the FEDERKRAVMAGA of Italy will integrate the KMRED, "Krav Maga RED", as a "method IN ITS OWN RIGHT", with its specificities and its level of demand, and will work for its development in direct collaboration With Christian Wilmouth and his group." The adventure has just begun, since many seminars have already been planned in Italy (Rome, Merate) and in Sardinia for this summer.
And above all, a new phase of development of the KMRED group will be carried out in MAY with a tour of SOUTH AMERICA by Christian Wilmouth, for interventions in civil and professional circles in Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. The future is ahead of us! KMRED INTERNATIONAL FAMILY
Wing Tsun / Wing Chun / WTU Wing Tsun All these discussions in the Wing Chun / Wing Tsun scene, whether something is traditional or not, are nonsense. The fact is, the W ing Chun / Wing Tsun would not exist if there were not people who would not have been traditional. The fundamentals had never been developed from which the various variations of art have grown over the course of time and the circumstances and the
understanding of the teachers. And so, our Wing Chun / W ing Tsun / WTU W ing Tsun Path is a good reflection of nature, which is very diverse and not a monoculture. The Wing Chun / Wing Tsun / WTU W ing's principles should open up and not constrict the mind by breaking open patterns, embossing, as otherwise a highly effective tool will be used to condition a new much more dangerous cage. A tool is worth nothing, which one does not however with it. Gladly use Egos everything around thereby only to inflate even mor e. Especially the martial arts scene is a parade example. But what is WTU W ing Ts u n and its predecessors Wing Tsun and Wing Chun really?
A
neutral tool, a tool with which one can unfold human virtuosity. All its foundations can be applied to all aspects of human life. Fighting is practically a side effect.
Chaos and order
The order of the cosmos is the "chaos" in the understanding of man. Order is a concept for man. The more order a system enters, the more movement is taken out and the more approaching death. In the human collective, the order closest to death is the bureaucracy of the bureaucrats. Every creativity and movement comes to a standstill. There are only rules for the rules themselves and administration and archiving and monitoring of the order. On the other hand, there is the anarchy, the newbor n is closest to her. There are no structures, only potentials. Best for living together is probably a healthy middle and preventing the extremes from getting overhanded. However, you always have to leave enough room, because every chance has to take the risk. And the greatest opportunity is human freedom. And it always has to be countered, that is, the events are always to be judged in their context and never isolated.
WT Universe
WT Universe
I want to define the goal as a threefold "value system: (1) The personal character of his personal development (2) The place of the man's nature, and the duties which he has (3) The obligation of the person to complete the development of his or her development Where then is the difficulty? One could say, then, that man's adaptability leads to an overwhelming order.
We would now like to briefly address this idea in four areas: 1) In the collective 2) In the martial arts WTU Wing Tsun 3) In personal human development 4) In relation to being 1. The human order in communities seems to degenerate into collective and bureaucratic processes. In the end, a bureaucratic monitoring device is installed, depending on the state of the art. This apparatus is guided by an elite, which has undergone the highest degree of adaptation in the so-called education system. The ideal seems to be
WT Universe a bee or an ant state. The universe would come to a standstill in this way, for movement is life. If the movement decreases, everything cools down and solidifies. We have often witnessed this process, for example, in Confucianism, in communism, in fascism, and in religions. Empires came and went. Even our so-called capitalist market economy does not appear to be safe from this. Lack of adaptability leads to overlapping regulation systems. When social systems become rigid, they are no longer able to distinguish between the basic form and the content. They over-emphasize the facade, the words, their views, and then consider the ultimate progress. They can no longer distinguish whether something is an opinion, or impulse is introduced into a situation. Work groups begin to explode, which manage these control systems. Even the so-called free market economy begins to squeeze the free market into a rigid rule system, and officials and bureaucrats from the worlds of business and politics begin to manage the world. 2. In martial arts, orders are the various styles with their limitations and innumerable rules. Combat sport is based on order, called rules, of whatever kind. They try to subdue an order which corresponds to the style. They try to grasp the chaos of struggle and the
confrontation with the simplified order of style, but this is not possible. In the WTU WING TSUN we increase the quality of the human being so that he learns to juggle with ever higher states of chaos without arranging it. WTU Wing Tsun is a way of harmonizing the own cleavage into the different fragments, or, as we say, centers. 3. To put human being in the prison of social conditioning into constraints and to make it useful to the collective is permanently a perversion and limitation of the human being. Man is not for the collective but the collective organization for man. That is, to maintain the framework conditions so that the development of holistic human potentials is possible. This has nothing to do with a supply from birth to death. And it also has to do with adapting the social framework conditions permanently to the changes of the external conditions and counteracting. 4. The cosmos is chaos from a human point of view and the perceived order is the momentary level of the human understanding of this chaos. The part in this cosmos is human, is minimal. For the reason, we should not try to make whatever image of him. We always talk about ourselves, not about "God".

Kali is a very versatile and old system of fighting that includes empty hand as well as weapon training methods. It is a devastating Art unto itself, but when you add the Kyusho you become even more efficient, effective and advanced in disabling an opponent. Kali has always taught what is called "Gunting" for strikes to weaker aspects of the arms, in volume #1 the Kyusho added even greater potential and a perfect starting point for the Kyusho or Kali practitioner. Many arm destruction methods were demonstrated as well as Kyusho Knockouts using only the nerves of the arm. This second volume expands on these powerful Kyusho targets by working from the arm traps of volume #1 and demonstrating additional and even more powerful head targets for incapacitation of the opponent. This video compilation will bring you far more advanced skills, even if you do not practice Kali... the two methods were meant for each other. Several KO's are demonstrated so you can see the efficiency and affect Kyusho brings to Kali.

Psychology and Martial Arts
Martial Psyche Hidden treasure game Has it ever happened to you that while curiously searching among old things you find an old box that you remember the looks of but aren’t sure what’s inside? Looking at the box, you remember having it, intuitively you remember that inside there is something that could be precious to you, but you don’t know what thing. So the act of opening it becomes something impossible to restrain from, like a child who steals the jam, or better, like India Jones who discovers the treasure. You are about to open the trunk and, like in the stories, something precious dazzles you from the first moment. That happened to me going back to open an old box that I had for some time, but the fact of having it led me to not take care of it, dismissing the contents. The trunk of precious material to which I am referring is set of the martial techniques which I have accumulated through time. All of us martial artists have a certain repertoire of techniques that increase with the passing of time, so much so that the accumulation often leads us to worry more about the number of techniques we possess than the value contained in each one. But, what is the value of the techniques? In the end, they are only movements, kicks, fists, and various gestures. No! That’s not how it is! Within each technique there is a soul. Discovering the soul that feeds the gestures repeated every day “a hundr ed times a hundr ed” in the gymnasium means re-discovering a new face of the Martial Art, granting it once again the power and ability to train the individual. Doctor Rosa Maria Distefano. In charge of Psychology Sector of the IMTF. E-mail: dlilla@tiscalinet.it
Psychology and Martial Arts The soul of the techniques The soul of the techniques is something that must be discovered activating our quintessence, activating our capacity to “feel” the gestures that we study and not simply do them. By activating our capacity to perceive the deep meaning of the movements that we do, we will discover that within each technique—what our masters teach us—there is a principle of life, there is a relational sign, there is a strategic suggestion of behavior. In order to discover the psychic soul that is hidden and feeds each technique, we have to free it from the immobility that physical strength imposes on it and let the
energy flow. If from each movement we eliminate the superficial layer dictated by muscular force, we allow the energy that feeds it to gush out. In this way we will discover that it is not only a gesture, but an energetic movement within the relationship with our adversary. I’ll give you an example in the ancient warriors who, only using the posture of the on guard position, activated an energetic movement that was already a confrontation, managing to resolve a fight only through the initial movement and remaining still. Or even better, think about all the internal Martial Arts where the energetic movement is brought about from within the person, to the point of using only that movement as a weapon, as much defense
Psychology and Martial Arts as attack, against the adversary. Or even more, think about the principle of strategic confrontation where each gesture is not done utilizing the principle of muscular force, rather the principle of mental force. In fact, within each technique, like a old trunk, there is a treasure, a psychological principle that we must keep in order to reproduce it, not only facing our adversaries in the gym—who, though at times very strong, are never the most dangerous—but especially facing our adversaries in life, which are undoubtedly more insidious and determined to destroy us.
When the threat is at the point of striking us in the face… Let’s try to solidify what has been said with an example of real techniques. Think about the times in which our enemy is in front of us and we perceive that he wants to strike us with a direct action, for example, a fist, a look, an action that can be intuited as a wave of negative energy that is coming in on us. If we reflect, this often occurs in the gymnasium when a jab is about to strike our nose, but it occurs even more in everyday life when we come across a look, a word, or an action from someone who openly wants to destroy us. That is the moment of decision, but, what are we going to do? Certainly we can’t take a fist in the face each time our adversaries have contact with us. In the gym, a punch hurts, but in real life continuously suffering the negative energy of our adversaries is worse. In order to handle this situation, a master, one worthy of the name for wisdom and simplicity of expression, told me: “You, in those cases, have to use a MON YAN LAK.” At the beginning I didn’t understand. The Mon Yan Lak, according to the ancient Siam Martial Art that the master in question teaches, is translated as “front kick.” A block kick. Trying it various times, feeling the deep, hidden sense of that movement, I perceived that the Mon Yan Lak wasn’t a kick, rather before all else it was a psychological principle to teach me to administer relationships in life. When an adversary launches his challenging gesture, we are the ones who can let him or her enter our guard or stop them within a safe limit. Try to feel the psychological effect of a block kick; it is like saying to the adversary: “Beyond this point you will not go. You will not come into my garden. Stop! My space can not be thrashed!” It is not necessary that it be an aggressive gesture, only an assertive gesture to establish the lines within which safety is guaranteed. When a Mon Yan Lak, or front kick, is executed, not only as an athletic gesture but expressed with its intrinsic psychological value, we will begin to be truly effective.
A forgotten treasure Through this method of psychological research, this new point of view with which we can return to study the techniques that we have accumulated and kept in our martial knowledge, we could discover
“In the gym, a punch hurts, but in real life continuously suffering the negative energy of our adversaries is worse.”
Psychology and Martial Arts possessing new treasures that we didn’t even know existed! I assure you that it is a very interesting game of hidden treasure, full of surprises. Good work!
“In order to discover the psychic soul that is hidden and feeds each technique, we have to free it from the immobility that physical strength imposes on it and let the energy flow.
In this DVD, G.M. Larry Tatum (10th Dan) develops techniques of the Kenpo program at the highest level. Particularly, some of his “favorites” like Flashing Mace, Parting Wings, Entwined Lance… Masterfully executed and based on the experience of the movement, G.M. Tatum incorporates his innovative teachings in these techniques that will help you add and complement your training in the Kenpo system. Besides, they provide the individual with the best choice for selfdefense, based on the logical and practical thinking, and place him in the path of understanding the art of Kenpo. These are the self-defense and fighting systems of the modern times we live in. They are designed so that the practitioner gets all the benefits that training these techniques can provide. This DVD has the support of Master Adolfo Luelmo (9th Dan), who goes on with a series of techniques performed in a smooth and strong way, for situations of extreme aggression, in which can be appreciated different states of the movement, in a logical and effective way. As a conclusion, Master Camacho Assisi (8th Dan), displays a technique that combines the strength of the arms and his expertise with legs.

Better known in the United States as "Mister Technique", Ter uo Chinen was one of the most prominent Masters of the traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate in the world. A tireless traveler, he was strongly linked to the traditional Art of Okinawa and its main names, as Miyazato Sensei or Morio Higaonna among others, developing a fabulous didactic job in 50 countries. Out of this work it’s worth noting the complete series of videos on the style, of which this month will be released the first volume finally translated to English, Spanish, German, Italian and French. A titanic work and an exceptional quality. "Mr. Technique" explains in detail and exactness the keys of the Go Ju school and leads us thr oughout this series along the geography of a legendary style, its techniques, kata, attacks and defenses, and everything that in the end entails the knowledge of the purest Okinawan Goju style. A unique opportunity to deepen the knowledge of genuine Karate, full of scents of tradition and quality. Alfredo Tucci

Karate
"Mister Technique" Teruo Chinen We nicknamed Sensei Chinen as “Mister Technique. When you saw him doing any movement of the Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate Do, the Art that he helped to spread throughout the world, you inevitably ended up wondering how anybody could ever perform a kata in such a perfect way. Some years ago, during his visit to Spain, he granted to us an interview that we want to offer today to ours readers, as a humble homage to somebody quite as outstanding as Sensei Teruo Chinen in the world of Okinawan Karate. He began training at a very young age in the dojo that the founder of Goju Ryu Karate, Chojun Miyagi, had in his garden. It was in the early 50's and although he still was very young at that time, he proudly remembered his encounters with Master Miyagi. After training with Sensei Miyazato, following the Master's death in 1953, he continued to practice until he moved to Tokyo to help his sempai, Morio Higaonna. According to Master Chinen, training was outstanding during those years.
Karate
He told us about the first time he ever saw Jiu Kumite, while Peter Urban was fighting in a tournament in 1957, in Tokyo. He also told us that the Kumite impressed him and Sensei Higaonna, so they returned to the Yoyogi Dojo and began to practice this free fighting style free between them and with the rest of the students. That style of Kumite had never been practiced - in fact even today it's still not being practiced in most Okinawa dojos - but Sensei Chinen was a strong supporter of its value and the benefit it brings to the students. In the interview, Master Chinen also talked about food and nutrition and he told us that he ate a lot of fish, in fact, most of his diet was fish and fruit. According to him, this combination of foods in the diet, is the reason why Okinawans have an average life expectancy of the highest in the world. His genuine Goju style attached great importance to physical fitness and he personally was an excellent example of a sensei in good shape. The exercises he practiced were unique, they were practically gymnastic exercises: he did unimaginable push-ups and sit-ups while grabbing a tree with his legs, as shown in the photo. He received an invitation to visit Spokane (Washington). His technique caused such a furor that they no longer let him go and Spokane became his home. Master Chinen traveled all over the world, from Russia to Peru, Chile ... United States and Canada. The trips gave him so much experience that we all were sure he could split a makiwara in two.
Karate
He not only was the technician of the technicians, he was also the knight among the knights, with a unique gift to be one of the most pleasant persons I had ever met. His soft voice, his excellent bearing and his smile could be his best weapons and when you saw him in the dojo, you also realized that he was one of the very best in the world performing Okinawa Goju. When he taught a technique, he was able to convey the essence of each form like no one else could do, taking care of every detail, something that became evident in each of his movements. The only way to describe him faithfully is to say that it was poetry in motion. Rising Sun Productions was fortunate to have the chance of adding his name to the list of internationally renowned Martial Arts masters, and we were proud to offer you this series of DVDs titled "The Internal Secrets of Okinawa Goju", in which, the Master taught the base, the bunkai and the form of all the katas. In addition, he taught self-defense techniques and kumite for Okinawa Goju.
Interview with Teruo Chinen Budo International: Please, Sensei, tell us about your life. Teruo Chinen: I was born in 1941 in Kobe, Japan. When I was very young we moved to Okinawa. Only three streets from where we lived was Miyagi Sensei's house, where I was introduced by my uncle. My instructor was Miyazato Sensei, of course, under
the tutelage of Miyagi. When Master Miyagi died, we took his training equipment to the new dojo, the Jundokan, where I helped Miyazato with the classes. B.I.: How did you decide to leave your country and train abroad? T.C.: I arrived in the United States in 1969, but until that time and since 1958, I dedicated myself to help Morio Higaonna in his Tokyo dojo (Yoyogi dojo) where he taught foreigners. This allowed me to gain more experience in this field, and since at that time there was a great demand of instructors of Goju Ryu, I finally made up my mind. I was supposed to have gone to Brazil, but things in life ... I ended up in the United States. At first I did not intend to stay more than three months, but the task was tremendous, the level was very low and I changed plans. At that time, the situation in Brazil was quite chaotic, so I definitely decided to stay here. I taught Karate at universities, in YMC's, in Lions, etc. B.I.: What do you think about the evolution of karate in the West? T.C.: I think that the interest in traditional Karate is growing. For the past 28 years I have been traveling through 50 countries. Many of them still remain underdeveloped and struggling for their livelihood, while others, such as South Africa, enjoy high standards compared to their neighbors. For example: That is a Shotokan country! Everyone does Shotokan! But we must generally understand that apart from the political and economic factor, it's the capacity of teachers what creates the level of practitioners.
Karate
B.I.: What do you expect of the future of karate? T.C.: I wish that the new generations can be not only better technically, but also that they don't leave the knowledge related to the traditions of our Martial Art. Sharing that knowledge is incredible for those who have known the old days. Nowadays, the modern communication systems allow us to accede to certain knowledge, once secret, that it was only taught behind closed doors in the dojos of Japan and China. I myself have made a series of videos in order that many students could have access
Karate
to information that personally took me years to bring together. Of course, you need supervision and the direct contact with a Sensei, but by this means you can greatly improve what you are already training, and I have worked long and hard to ensure that the information given is as careful as possible. At work we must be responsible, for those students who rely on us from the distance. B.I.: What do you think about the organizations so diverse that exist of the Okinawa styles? T.C.: In Okinawa schools are always something very personal, but in what concerns the styles, the division among schools is quite arbitrary. Everyone who practices Goju Ryu from Okinawa starts from the same point and we all have a common ground, what changes is anecdotal and has more to do with the personality of the Master. B.I.: What do you think about Kobudo and Karate training? T.C.: No doubt they are complementary practices, even Kendo training is! The Okinawa weapons system, the Kon / bo, Sai, Tonfa, or Nunchaku, allow a development of coordination and kime that are exceptional. Likewise, Kobudo practitioners should have a good basis of empty hands. B.I.: And what about competition? T.C.: Kumite is a good practice. I personally encourage people to do it. I used to compete even in Kendo and Judo! I was a great loser (laughs). It's especially interesting for younger black belts, as well as for students who have not yet attained that level; it gives them a chance to measure themselves in a different context. However, abusing it is not good
either; by its own rules, competition tends more and more to standardize everything and people lose the unique flavor of the classic and even the opportunity to develop their own mark, something that, from a certain rank, is the very essence of Karate. B.I.: Thank you Sensei. T.C.: Thanks to you and I hope that the diffusion of my videos in Europe, allow students to deepen their work.

The Pukulan Pencak Silat Serak is a system based on both weapons and empty hands at the same time. It incorporates many of the new-generation weapons, swords, knives, circular kerambits, bars, batons of different lengths and other more particular weapons. Even in our empty hand training methods we face an opponent who attacks us with weapons in both hands, as well as several opponents at once. This type of training makes us more aware of everything that happens during an altercation and what do and not do when facing one or more armed aggressors. In this second DVD, Maha Guru Horacio Rodrigues, heir to the lineage of Pendekar Pak Victor De Thouars, of Pukulan Pencak Silat Serak, addresses its particular way to train and use the different weapons, laying the foundations for more advanced future plans of study and the application of technique. This video includes the principles of work, angulation, Sambuts, Jurus and drills with the short sword "Pedang", short knife "Pissau", short stick "Tonkat Matjan", Sarong, and applications of selfdefense with empty hands.

Kulintang: The Relationship Between Music and Combat in the Philippine Arts The martial arts of Southeast Asia (Kali, Escrima, Arnis, Kuntaw, and Silat) are an important and integral part of the daily life of the different societies in the Malay region. However, the art of war is only one facet of the vast cultural space where it is evolving. The truth is that the way in which a martial art is taught, practiced and learned is often very similar to the way in which other branches of the classical arts are learned in the Malay Archipelago. In the southern Philippines (Mindanao) the unique and strange music of Kulitang (gong and drum) is a perfect example of the relationship between the combat arts and the rest of the arts in the Archipelago. The tribal game of bells and gongs of the Maranao, Yakan, Tausug and Maguindanao tribes has the same traditions of transmission as the martial arts of Mindanao. There are no notes and no written system for this music due to the fact that its structure is so complex and extremely difficult to analyze because the rhythms and melodies are all linked together and are repeated an infinite number of times.
Arts of Southeast Asia
“The martial arts of Southeast Asia (Kali, Escrima, Arnis, Kuntaw, and Silat) are an important and integral part of the daily life of the different societies in the Malay region.
Arts of Southeast Asia he traditions, the contents of what is taught, the exercises, the melodies and the fragments are all memorized and transmitted by "oral tradition". The old men teach the young men and children learn from childhood by intuition and practice, imitating these musical forms. Once the melodies have been learned they are then combined in a virtuoso and infinite way, mixed together and played with. Then when they have been committed to memory the whole process becomes a game of many different variations on the principal themes. Improvisations are freely performed and they become indistinguishable from the learned forms.
T
The learning and application of this music develops superior abilities as important as timing, cadence and rhythm. Each member of a musical group learns all five instruments not only in order to become a musician, but also in order to be able to adapt to the flow of the rhythm. One characteristic shared by all Kulitang artists is that they have a good time and enjoy themselves in this game of presenting and practicing their music, although it must be said that the preparation is tough and rigorous. These characteristics are common to the rest of the Filipino Martial Arts. Martial artists in this area learn and experience the technical aspects (attacks, defenses, counterattacks, footwork, etc.) as the bodily expression of

the theoretical concepts of the combat. The different techniques and movements can be connected in an infinite way, and they are transmitted as variable interpretations of the basic rules. That is to say, in their application a practicing student learns all the possible combinations to be able to use them later together with the different counterattacks. In order to achieve the required agility and demanding nature of weapons training, the qualities of timing, cadence and a sense of rhythm are vital. Once the way in which certain techniques and movements can be substituted has been understood and assimilated, students of the Filipino Martial Arts learn the different types of weapons: the stick, knife, double knife, long cane and the lance. They should all be used in an effective and replaceable way, since they depend on the same concepts and they have the same technical structure. A sense of “game” is developed in pair drills (training sequences with a partner) by Filipino martial artists with the purpose of training together to reach the objectives of the exercises. They have a good time practicing their exercises, understanding that it is a tough game and that a mistake by their partner can cause a lot of damage. This attitude can be appreciated clearly in pair work exercises like Sumbrada, Numbered and so on. We should point out that martial art is closely linked to the music of Kutilang, since they are combined on a regular basis at exhibitions and for official celebrations. They have a supportive relationship and share the same cultural roots, although they are still evolving today. The evident parallelism between Kilitang music and Kali / esgrima shows us that these art forms come from the same awareness and they are based on the same form of thinking and living, in a conception of the world shared by all people from this part of the world. This common awareness invades the whole culture and both music and the martial arts arise from this point of departure. This fact is fundamental to an understanding of the dexterity and beauty of these two art forms that continue to spread and evolve today.
“One characteristic shared by all Kulitang artists is that they have a good time and enjoy themselves in this game of presenting and practicing their music.”

In this new DVD of Vovinam, Patrick Levet has wanted to show the facets of the use and handling of the Vietnamese Stick. Although little known, the Vietnamese long stick is, without a doubt, the most important weapon among all the weapons of the traditional Martial Arts of Vietnam. The Vovinam school, in its official program, only proposes the Stick Form (Tu Tuong Con Phap) and the counterattacks of stick vs. stick (Phan The Con), without explaining the intermediate movements. But the Vietnamese stick goes far beyond these two facets and Master Levet offers us 2 detailed DVDs on all the applications of the numerous intermediate movements of the Stick Quyen. This first volume includes a series of specific stick warming up and bodybuilding exercises, the guard, fundamental principles, stylistic handling of the weapon, defense against disarmament, blocking and dodging, displacements, as well as combat techniques. An original work that shows for the first time the Vietnamese stick in a complete and exhaustive way.

Early Age Martial Arts Training Moni started training in Jiu Jitsu, Judo, and boxing at the age of 8. He would later go on to dominate Israel’s competitive scene winning seven national titles Military Service - Israeli Special Forces When Moni enrolled for his military service, due to his unique abilities, the Israeli government gave him special privileges known as “sportay mitstaien” (excellent sportsman privilege). He decided though to give up these special privileges and inste-
Commando Krav Maga ad opted to join an elite group of Israeli Special Forces Commandos responsible for counter-terrorism and intelligence gathering behind enemy lines. The following year Moni found himself fighting in the midst of the Yom Kippur War. It was a bloody battle…one of the worst in Israel’s history.
Experiment With Combative Tactics Moni began analyzing the existing hand to hand methods of the Israeli military in search of a more effective and complete system. He experimented with combative tactics and techniques from Krav Maga, Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Boxing, Muay Thai, as well as other fighting systems under the most stressful situations. Through his studies he observed: Moves requiring more than two gross motor skills rarely work under extreme stress. You cannot rely on strength because there is always someone stronger. It is much more realistic to train with dynamic, non-cooperative attackers rather than static and cooperative attackers. Moni concluded you must train the way you fight in real situations, thus creating the first ever multiple-attacker sparring in reality-based training. Today these sessions are known as surprise attacks or pressure tests.
Creation of Commando Krav Maga (CKM) Through rigorous field testing under the most realistic conditions, Moni invented new concepts, tactics, and techniques leading to the creation of COMMANDO KRAV MAGA (CKM) in early 1974. After his service to the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces), Moni expanded with his martial arts and combative roots by opening one of the top training centers in Israel called Maccabi Tel Aviv. The school quickly became recognized as the defacto national training center in multiple styles including his new modern form of Krav Maga known today as CKM. Moni’s competitive students swept events with many national titles for individual and team competitions.
Israel's First Olympic & World Medalist Among Moni’s most noted Israeli students was Yael Arad, Israel’s first Olympic and World medalist. Moni sought to increase his knowledge of combative martial arts by frequently traveling to Japan to study and personally train under the technical wizardry of World Judo and Sambo Champions Iso Ikano and Katsuhiko Kashiwazaki. This helped enhance his passion for proper biomechanics and reality-based fighting.
Commando Krav Maga Expanding to North America By 1986 Moni had introduced his system of Krav Maga at the Jewish Community Center in Toronto Canada, which quickly became an enormous hit. He used this momentum to demonstrate his abilities in elite instruction by establishing one of the most successful martial arts clubs in Canada, The Samurai Club, offering multiple disciplines including MMA, Judo, Jiu Jitsu, and his evolved style of Krav Maga (CKM). Continuing on the success of Maccabi Tel Aviv back in Israel, his students at The Samurai Club dominated the Judo and Jiu Jitsu tournament scene, sweeping Gold medals at almost every competition.
MMA World Champion This was the first Canadian academy to formally teach Israeli Fighting Systems. Some of Moni’s most successful Canadian students include international superstar Carlos Newton winner of the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), International Shooto star, Joel Gerson, UFC fighter, Mark Bocek, National Champion, Omar Salvosa…and many others
Launching of Commando Krav Maga (CKM) World Wide The combination of Moni’s outstanding achievements as a world class coach and former national champion, along with his military background, makes him one of the most distinguished reality-based instructors in the world. Moni has the uncanny ability to bring out the best in people by helping them go beyond their perceived mental and physical limits. 2004 was a pivotal year for Moni and CKM. That year saw him release his first DVD demonstrating and teaching his own version of Israeli Krav Maga. The video became so popular that it spawned no less than twenty-eight more compilations of his mastery. All
Commando Krav Maga twenty-nine DVDs were met with enormous acclaim by the martial arts community, pushing Moni to world-renowned status among reality-based martial artists. Demand for both private and public appearances exploded after the release of the films, and thus Commando Krav Maga (CKM) in its modern form was officially open to the civilian sector around the world.
CKM's Explosive Popularity Due to CKM’s explosive popularity and high demand, Moni launched the CKM Instructor Certification Course/Intensive Boot Camp in 2005 on an international level. By combining CKM’s evolved tactics and techniques with the high caliber training methodology utilized by Olympic and Mixed Martial Arts athletes, Moni designed one of the most challenging and rewarding training camps in the world.
Six Commando Krav Maga Programs Following Commando Krav Maga, Moni introduced his revolutionary conditioning system, Elite Combat Fitness, in 2008. Today that system is known around the world as CKM FIT.By 2009, Moni launched the TOP Instructor program for the law enforcement sector, which is now goes by the name CKM Law Enforcement and Military program. That same year he also created the Smart Safe program for women (aka WCKM), now called CKM WOMAN. Lastly, he rounded out the lot with the WIN! program for children…what we now call CKM KID. In doing so, Moni established the most complete and comprehensive realitybased organization in the world – the Combat Survival Reality Based Institute.
Staying at the Forefront Originally a system taught to specialized units in the IDF, Moni introduced CKM to the civilian sector when he opened a martial arts school after his military service. Since the birth of Commando Krav Maga, the system has constantly evolved. Moni Aizik believes in taking a scientific approach to combat and is always looking for ways to improve CKM. As there is no such thing as a perfect fighting system, CKM always raises questions such as, “How can we make this tactic faster and better?” and “How can we modify these techniques so that even a small woman can effectively survive if attacked by someone twice her size?” With these underlying principles of evolution, Commando Krav Maga is always striving to stay at the forefront of realitybased self defense. CKM focuses on simple but highly
effective tactics making it the system of choice for many law enforcement agencies, military units and civilians around the world. Moni created Eight CKM levels and by the summer of 2012, he had certified his first generation Level 8 Instructors at The Ultimate Boot Camp in Israel. That same year he began work on filming for the CKM Online University, which is an interactive portal for students and instructors to gain better knowledge of the Combat Survival reality based systems. Today, Moni continues the work of developing and improving techniques and tactics for real-world scenarios. He travels the globe exploring and testing what really works in reality based defense against true attacks. Training handson with a wide diversity of practitioners and styles enables him to devise the best solutions for his instructors and students numbering in the thousands of followers in over 50 countries. Through his innovative boot camps, dynamic demonstrations at public seminars, and the progressively interactive CKM University Online, he continues to share and spread his concepts, philosophy and principles with civilians, law enforcement, and military around the world.

This DVD is the result promoted by the Spanish subsidiary of the Zen Nihon Toyama-Ryu Iaido Renmei (ZNTIR - Spain Branch), to publicize the technical content of the ToyamaRyu style as practiced in the ZNTIR Honbu Dojo in Machida, Tokyo, unchanged, with no alterations. The loyalty of the program is such that is its president and maximum technical manager, Yoshitoki Hataya Sensei, who, accompanied by some members, executes personally the entire compendium of the current style program. In him you can find the basic structure of the methodology that is applied, from the coded exercises of warming up and preparation and through the cutting exercises; the guards; the school Katas, including those corresponding to the Toyama Army Academy, the Gunto Soho and its explanation; work in pairs, both in Kumitachi and Gekken Kumitachi, and the cornerstone on which the Toyama-Ryu is based, i.e., Tameshigiri or cutting exercises on a real target. Zen Nihon Toyama-Ryu IaiDo Renmei (ZNTIR) is the body that currently - once reviewed and adapted the concepts and methodology of a school that comes from a method of actual combat intends to maintain alive this tradition and the original forms through a system that unifies body, mind and spirit in a realistic and effective way. Thanks to the commitment of a few graduates of the Toyama Army Academy (Rikugun Toyama Gakko), who continued secretly keeping alive the art until the lifting of the bans and the return of sovereignty to the Japanese people, today can learn a fencing style framed among the current schools of Iai-Do. This is a meticulous DVD in different languages, which proves to be a valuable source for researchers and practitioners of Japanese sword, and for martial artists in general or interested in the history of Japan and its last world war. It's a real stroke of luck being able to observe the techniques it contains, and at least for serious researchers, is well worth having it in your video library. We practitioners of the style want to share loyally the knowledge of our Japanese fencing school, in the hope that at the same time, the own inter nal values of those armed men impregnate the new generations and allow to glimpse a revulsive, in a traditionally way very different from the current approach to combat disciplines of Japanese origin.
