We are pleased to present the second work of the KMRED group. This video bearing the name "Concept and Education" aims to make you discover a part of the concept Krav Maga Research, Evolution and Development, as well as the pedagogy developed within our group. The different exercises that you will discover here are not intended to "feast your eyes" or demonstrate our combative attitudes, because our priority here is that of explaining how we prepare our students so that they become "warriors", capable of "adapting" to the different evolutions of street fighting.

"Even the unexpected ends up being a habit once you've learned to endure" Julio Cortazar
he human being's capacity of enduring is paradigmatic. It is certainly this feature, along with our adaptability, what has made us the winning species on the planet. We are plastic, elastic, and capable to acquire any form and to integrate ourselves into any situation conforming to it. My friend Paco, an exceptional therapist, genius of so many things, told me years ago talking about food: "Alfredo, do not worry so much about food, we will soon eat shit and we'll be even able to metabolize", to which, as it's customary in him, he added an old joke, the one about that South American president who asked one of his advisors about the situation of the country. - "Sir, I have both good and bad news for you - answered the advisor -. Which one do you want to hear first?" - "The good news" - said the President. - "We're sunken in shit up to the neck, and soon that's all we will have to eat." - said the advisor. - "Well, I see, that's the bad news! Now what's the good news? - asked the president. - "No, no, sir! THAT WAS the good news! ... The bad news is that there won't be shit for everybody." Accustomed as we are to resist, we often forget that this is not the purpose, nor the natural state to walk the paths of life. To the pressure of the environment, we add our internal pressure, much larger if anything, as it conditions the way we react to what comes to us. We must relearn to ventilate ourselves, otherwise we will exhaust our reserves, and that, far from being a healthy attitude, will prevent us from fulfilling everything we have come to fulfill. Being always up to the brim, one single drop will destabilize the glass liquid and will cause it to overflow. Especially in the critical phases of our lives, when we must draw from where there isn't anything, this principle becomes evident before us. Emptying, then it is more important than refilling, releasing ballast more important than dropping anchor, cast out air more important than blow it in. We should not fear this situation, because that abandonment, to which we must surrender, will make us stronger, but above all, it will let us float on our shipwreck. A friend of mine, a scholar of many things, used to call this attitude "to stand from beyond the line", that is, to place yourself from the line toward the outside or the inside. If the limit, the line, represented the absence of symptoms, he maintained that health, understood as something assertive, should be beyond that limit. Health, well-being, the natural, was being beyond the absence of negative symptoms; rather, it was an assertive and positive state, from which we could assume, with guarantees of success, the EXCEPTIONAL, something that sooner or later will come to us and knock our door. Sun Tsu said it this way: "He who uses ordinary forces to fight and extraordinary forces to win comes out victorious. He, who on the
T

contrary, always uses the extraordinary forces, will exhaust in his campaigns and when the time comes, he will lack resources to deliver the definite blow to his opponent." Endurance, our resistance, adaptive capacity, intelligence and the ability to impose our judgment and resist changing, may eventually lead us to stand on the edge of the abyss. The stronger, the more intelligent you are the worse in this case. Resilience is not enduring. Genuine renewal is not to select what we "want" but what suits the new stage of our spirit. Pressing crisis undress us little by little. Travelling with a lightweight luggage, not only external, but especially internal, will help us to better face the transit. No need to worry ... what is worth keeping will still be there when all pass. Things and people also have the custom, that ability of insisting on their own attempt. Crisis force us to reconsider the essential and in doing so, we all must place ourselves "beyond the line", so as to have room to live ... and not just survive. Enduring is not enough, we must learn to enjoy again; arduous task in the middle of a crisis, I know, nevertheless indispensable. Only with the stick with the donkey walk ... Yes, but he will end up beaten, injured and sore everywhere. Using the carrot will be like "oiling" the bearings of our vital system, it will give space so that all the good reaches us, and, most important, when that happens, we can appreciate it. It is the joy and not the absence of pain which provides space to resist the stakes that life will give us in the future, margin to live in peace, because peace is not the opposite of war - it's love - but its simple absence. When the fathers of the American Constitution included in their ideology the pursuit of happiness as a human right, they opened a door to hell and another to heaven. Nevertheless, giving yourself a chance, withdrawing to the winter quarters to wait out the snow, enjoy the simple, go back to the basics, is the real fast that will allow us to heal our wounds and then retur n to daily struggle, with much greater strength, wisdom and compassion. All, without exception, we must relearn to love; docile as a child, curious and simple, and the winds of life will not find resistance in our simplicity. The storm will pass and we will continue firm on our feet ... or at least crawling on all fours. Going back to the beginning, to that child in all of us, heals many wounds; taking his strength, feeling his candor, heats the most wounded hearts and lets the blessing of his strength, joy and blind confidence that everything will come, because the guardian of confidence in life, is the child within us.

STEVEN SEAGAL Biography of the man who changed the history of Aikido Just behind Schwarzenegger and Stallone, Steven Seagal was, at the time, the best paid action film actor. His films were among the top positions in the annual box office rankings in the United States. Currently, the actor is 64 years old, measures 6.30 ft and weighs over 220 lb. He holds a Seventh Dan in Aikido and is also a Black Belt in Karate, Kendo, Judo and Kung Fu.

S
teven Frederic Seagal was born in Lansing, Michigan on April 10, 1952. His first contact with Martial Arts was not very nice because, at age 7, he was knocked out by a karateka in a fight. In his youth, the Seagal family moved to live in Fullerton, California, where he had the opportunity to start practicing the Shotokan Karate-Do style under the tutelage of Sensei Sakamoto, who introduced him to master Fumio Demura, of the Shito Ryu style. Later, he met the Aikido Master Harry Kiyoshi Ishisaka, founder of the headquarters of the Aikikai style in Orange County, California. That was how Seagal began his training in this Martial Art. At 17 years, Seagal moved to Tokyo, because his father worked for the US Armed Forces. There he met the Aikido Master Hiroshi Isoyama, which took him to the Aikido Founder's dojo, Master Ueshiba Morihei, in the region of Iwama. He got so impressed by his teachings that he immediately realized that this was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life It was not easy for a Westerner to enter the xenophobe Japanese society but if anything characterizes Steven Seagal, is his tremendous stubbornness; that's why, after a thousand and one obstacles, he managed to become the first non-Asian to open a school in Tokyo, where he taught Aikido to the Japanese. The school, called Tenshin Dojo, is now run by his ex-wife Miyako Fujitani, also a teacher of Aikido, with whom he had two children: Take Kentaro and Ayako Fujitani. They came to have about 2,000 students in different dojos. Seagal trained there actors like James Mason and Sean Connery. During the 15 years he was in Japan, he pursued what he calls the "Way of the Implacable Warrior", developing a body and a mentality of iron. In 1984 he returned to Los Angeles, where he opened a Martial Arts school and also served as a bodyguard for actors and politicians. At that time he divorced Miyako to marry Adrienne La Russa. But this new marriage did not work and a year later, Seagal married actress and model Kelly LeBrock, with whom he had three children. Thanks to the latter, Seagal became friends with Michael Ovitz, one of the most
influential artistic representatives of Hollywood and a great lover of Martial Arts. This gave him the opportunity to enter "through the front door" in the world of cinema, as an actor, co-writer and coproducer of the film "Above the Law," which had an average budget. When Warner Bross started filming, disinterest was unanimous, the shooting locations were hardly visited by information professionals ... The future of the film was far from encouraging, because the main market was the United States. The film was finally released and critics and other people, full of prejudices, came up to the screening room willing to endure what they assumed it would be a soporific film. Attending the premiere was purely a formality; several critical comments concerning the possibility of leaving before

the end of the movie were also heard. However, to everyone's surprise, the film was not as bad as they thought. It is unclear whether it was due to the great disappointment that was presaged or to any other factor, but the reviews were quite lenient having into account the quality of the film. Some critics apologized describing him as "a little fresh air to the new prototype of American hero" or "is not the typical muscular hero, is rather a new Dirty Harry". Seagal took a great care in his "baptism" in the movie world by participating in the script of "Above the law" and being also co-producer. The director, co-producer and co-writer was none other than Andrew Davis, who had directed Chuck Norris in "Code of Silence", considered by many as his best film. Regardless of whether Seagal appeared at the right time, or the audience was fed up with the typical

muscular hero, the fact is that the film was successful wherever it premiered. For the production company it was more than profitable, and ensured the future of Steven Seagal as an actor. "Above the Law" succeeded all over the world. In all press conferences, Seagal said: "I don't like plastic heroes, like Rambo or Commando. I like people like Nico, people who cry. Surely you'll never see a plastic hero weep, instead, my character is a family man who cares about others." When asked about his first movie experience, he said: "I could have done some films a few years ago, 'cause I had the necessary contacts, like James Mason, but I didn't carry it out until I felt it was appropriate; besides, it should be a film that really was worthwhile. I didn't want to introduce myself prematurely in this world, I
wanted to do something that was really appealing, with a script according to the times. Since I was a little kid I loved the movies and for me, the main thing of a film is the story. I didn't either want to make a film that was too simple, in which people were killed on the basis of fantasy and violence. When the boys leave the theater after seeing these films, they are convinced that you can punch someone and the person will not bleed. I didn't want to give that image, that's fantasy and lies, because if you hit someone properly, the person will fall to the ground and bleed. This is the reality and that is the image I wanted to give." To offer this image, he himself was responsible for the choreography and images of action. According to him, the screen techniques have to be fast, simple, clear and succinct.

Martial Cinema His second film, "Hard to Kill", became the sixth top fund-raiser Martial Arts production in the history of the films in this genre, surpassing the $ 45 million. Seagal didn't disappoint the unusual confidence that had been placed in him. Certainly, neither Ovitz nor Warner Bros were wrong when they gave him a try. "Marked for Death" and "Out for Justice" were also blockbusters, but they seemed to confining him to the stereotype of a tough Italian-American cop, expressionless and walking like John Wayne. However, his fifth film, "Under Siege", gave the actor a new vitality. The film, full of humor and thrilling action, left satisfied even the most demanding of viewers. It grossed 156.4 million dollars worldwide and, undeniably, was his best film. To this would be followed by "On Deadly Ground", film that unveiled his humanitarian and ecological aspect. Here we found an almost omnipotent Steven Seagal for his work as producer, director and star, although this was nothing new, since the actor had been carrying out labors behind the scenes since his first film. In "Out for Justice", for example, he even co-wrote two of the songs from the soundtrack. After the success of "Under Siege", the production company continued to explode the profile of the character Casey Ryback

Martial Cinema and rolled a sequel. This time the action takes place on rails, instead of the sea. Steven Seagal promoted the film all over the world and in his visit to Spain he told reporters about some discrepancies with the producer: "My intention is to make other type of films, I would be very interested in starring in movies in dramatic genre, but that doesn't depend entirely on my, it is also up to the movie studios whether they are willing to give me other papers or not." Furthermore, he said he was against excessively violent scenes and characters: "I will never support violence for violence. I have always been concerned that my films contain a message or a moral background. In my films I try to enter values such as honesty, the importance of family or the care for the environment. " He insisted that he wanted to give another image and messages to his followers, but he

was conditioned by the studio: "I want to convey certain messages, of course, and it would be much easier to do it through dramatic or social films but, for better or worse, I someone specially gifted to play action roles and currently I'm only offered films in this genre. In fact, I have to fight tooth and nail every day with producers and writers to reduce violence in my films, but they usually have the last word." Outside the microphones, I asked him about his remarks and he told me of his intention to work in any other studio, where he could have some freedom to choose his characters and the content of his films. In 1996, following a multifaceted path, it surprised seeing Seagal in "Executive Decision", in a second plane in relation to Kurt Russell, star of the film. For many fans of Seagal, the film was a fraud because on the poster and advertising appeared the actor as a co-star, when he really played a secondary role, although quite important in the plot. That same year was premiered "Glimmer Man" and this time he was the real protagonist. The novelty was not see him playing a relentless detective, former CIA agent, and breaking bones everywhere, but the novelty lay in the humor, something that hitherto was

Martial Cinema conspicuous by its absence in his sober interpretations. Despite this change, the film did not work at the box office. In 1997, he shot another environmental movie: "On Deadly Ground II," in which he plays an EPA agent fighting the dumping of industrial toxic waste in the Kentucky hills. The film was a failure worldwide. Hollywood began to lose confidence in the aikidoka as the vein of gold. A clear example of this was that the following year he starred in "The Patriot", his first film not distributed by Warner Bross, besides being his first live video release in the United States (although it was released in theaters almost all over the world,
distributed by Tripictures). "The Last Patriot" was another environmental thriller the actor produced with his own money and was filmed near his farm in Montana. Everything presaged a major debacle in his career, however, Joe Silver, producer of the Matrix saga, and who also had produced and worked with Steven Seagal in "Executive Decision," continued to believe in him, and gave him the opportunity to shoot a film, "Exit Wound", which had the necessary means: with this film the actor returned to the movie screens of theaters in North America. Steven Seagal didn't want to be typecast only as an action movie actor and no
one knows if it was due to his influence or because of the director, but the film had fewer Martial Arts scenes than his previous films. The film had a great commercial success, grossing nearly $ 80 million worldwide. Despite the success, Seagal failed to channel or re-launch his career as an actor. He embarked on the shooting of "Ticker", costarring with Tom Sizemore and Dennis Hopper, a film rolled in San Francisco. In this film, Martial Arts were conspicuous by their absence, and many people didn't put any hope on it for its poor quality, so in America went straight to DVD. In Europe it was released in some countries: in Spain was distributed by Filmax.
In 2002, he filmed "Half Past Dead", co-starring rap star Ja Rule, achieving almost 20 million dollars worldwide. The often-repeated prison topics hardly interested anybody. From there on, his career seemed to be in a clear decline, decreasing the quality of his films, like "The Foreigner", "Out for a Kill", "Belly of the Beast", "Clementine" "Under control", etc., until completing almost twenty titles. In 2010, he returned to the screens around the world with "Machete", directed by Robert Rodriguez. In this film about the life of villain Torrez, it was hard to see a depraved and unscrupulous Seagal, at least for the undersigned...
Biography of the man who changed the history of Aikido
From 2010 to 2012, perhaps following in the footsteps of Chuck Norris, he was involved in the television series "Extreme Justice", but it didn't have the audience success of "Texas Ranger". After the series, he followed with low-budget productions that were released directly into the DVD market and alternated with his participation in the television series "The Steven Seagal: Lawman show". The first two seasons were broadcast on channel A & E but, after a judicial controversy, the chain decided to cancel the release of the third one, which passed to Reelz. Such controversy arose because the actor made inroads into the world's most radical politics. Part of that group of 3,000 unpaid volunteers who provide Sheriff Joe Arpaio support in fighting illegal immigration. without having committed any crime. The absence of identification is considered a crime and therefore may involve deportation. Steven Seagal has never hidden that in his opinion, illegal immigration is the most important problem that the country faces, and has a long history of cooperation with Joe Arpaio, known as "the toughest sheriff in the country." Beyond Arizona, Seagal also collaborates with civil patrols of New Mexico, Texas and Louisiana, in the fight against illegal immigration. According to the actor, the main problem of the United States "is not Islamic terrorism" but "open borders", because he thinks that "through these boundaries can enter any kind of terrorism and, in fact, it enters", he said. If he became governor, Steven Seagal says he would focus on the Arizona's border security. In his opinion, "between 10% and 20%" of the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States, are "tough criminals". Seagal and Arpaio have been a target of criticism from pro-immigrant activists, who have accused the Sheriff of Maricopa of arresting undocumented immigrants and contribute to their deportation, based on their Hispanic racial profiling. Steven Seagal defended him in the chain of TV ABC15: "If Joe Arpaio is racist? No, he is not. And I'm not saying that I think he is not racist, I'm saying that he is NOT." He added that "If someone commits a crime is a criminal; no matter if he or she is Mexican, Irish or Chinese". Besides, he attributed the phrase to President Ronald
Martial Cinema Reagan: "If you have no security in your borders, you have no country." What is unquestionable is that Joe Arpaio has had to modify his working tactics after a court concluded that his department was carrying out practices of racial profiling when arresting people in Maricopa County. Regarding Seagal, he publicly announced that he would consider in the future running for governor of Arizona. The actor has an interest in politics and a curiosity is his friendship with
Russian President Vladimir Putin. Part of the family of the actor, an American citizen himself, is originally Russian, since his paternal grandparents emigrated from this country to the United States. Steven Seagal was about to jump from the movie world to diplomacy, he even mentioned in the past the possibility of taking Russian citizenship. According to what was published by Buzz Feed, Putin proposed to Steven Seagal as honorary consul of Russia
in the States of California and Arizona, and as a potential intermediary between the Kremlin and the White House. But what he has recently done is obtaining the Serbian citizenship. After meeting Serbian president Tomislav Nikolic and prime minister Aleksandar Vucic, he declared he considered Serbia as his new fatherland and promised that he would do what was necessary to promote it. Steven Seagal is indisputably a versatile man of a great talent: expert in Martial Arts, specialist in the use of knifes and firearms, with wide knowledge in Acupuncture, in the practice of the Zen or in the herbal oriental medicine, actor, choreographer, producer, director, involved in the defense of the environment and in Buddhism, musician with his own band that gives concerts all over the world ‌ and seemingly, now he is going to get into politics... Is there anything left for him to do? You can be or not in agreement with him, but the conclusion to which I got after a brief meeting with him is unquestionable: Seagal is sincere and is not afraid to express openly his opinions, he doesn't measure his words like it other actors do. He may be wrong, but he is a sincere and brave man when it comes to expressing himself. Article by MĂłnica Gail RodrĂguez and Pedro Conde

The Philippines has a long history of life and death combat. From ancient times to the modern day, the fighting arts of the Filipino archipelago have proven themselves time and again to be efficient, effective and extremely deadly forms of fighting. There are countless systems of Filipino martial arts spread throughout the thousands of islands in this region. Many are family arts and no “outsider will likely ever learn them. Fortunately, many have also been made available to the rest of the world. From the Kyusho perspective the study begins with learning revival and restorations, but then develops mobile arm targeting as its Martial foundation. When you dissect an attack, besides a kicking action, all other attacks start with the arms, but the challenge is that the arms are the fastest moving parts of the body with the greatest range of motion and directional attack capability. So it is a very challenging section of training that should be integrated into every session, in so many variations. There are other ways to make this level a bit easier and one is in the skill of Arm Trapping. Kali Master Raffi Derderian and Kyusho Practitioner Evan Pantazi - a collaborative film

To h a v e e a g l e e y e s ; t o s e e beyond the moment; to see the problem many kilometers away ... Who can do it? Maintaining control of the situation, even when are the opponents those who move... “Keeping everything under control is to observe and analyze, think, stay calm, in the stillness of the spirit, with a peaceful heart... It's to know that strategy is a way of economy of force.
Some say that strategy is a key point that everyone should study. I do not agree: strategy is a strong point in the hands of people trained. History is full of examples of men who believed themselves strategists and squandered the lives of millions of soldiers in conquests, lands, territories ... I agree with a former serviceman I met in Brazil, saying that the ignorant plays the role of strategist. It took me years to understand the depth of his statement, but it is simple: he who is not able to measure his steps towards himself, cannot understand the danger of a poorly performed maneuver; inconsequential, he merely seeks to be in advantage, which, in turn, means nothing in the world of high strategy. Anyone who doesn't understand the comings and goings in the relationship between extremes that confront one another, act as fools in their personal realities and therefore collective. They play with empty possibilities and lose. They are unable to measure distances, they don't know when to back down, when to invest... Keeping control of a situation is far beyond simply hold, isolate and negotiate. It's a kind of "modus operandi" that determines how to handle the crisis. The question promotes more than just moving; often it is best to allow the opponent to move, to let him go ahead in some moves; to let him win some battles ... For the concepts of the one that "deceives himself" on this slippery slope, in his mind, which is irresponsible

and is led by the impulses of the animal subconscious, it hasn't yet appeared the idea of a reflection that make him slow down and give another direction to his route - or even modify his position. In general, he remains "self-absorbed" and tied to the ideas that seem safer to him; he is not even able to rearrange his ways of acting. Maintaining control often means to flow into hard and irreducible positions. Gustave Flaubert said that "The height of pride is despising oneself", and what inconsequential people do in a strategic maneuver is despising themselves so that in the very next moment we are all utterly undone! The best strategist is not the one who always wins - winning is a consequence -, but who maintains secure his basis for negotiation. Pietro Ubaldi explains in one of his books that a missionary asked a savage why he didn't raise a cow for himself instead of stealing his neighbor. The savage answered that is much less work to steal the animal when it's been already raised and prepared... in his logic, which only understood his particular and immediate advantage, there was no reason why he couldn't choose the shortest and easiest way, of smaller resistance or less work. As this savage, many, convinced that they are very wise people, dare to swim in a sea full of sharks without even knowing the movement of the tide. Keeping everything under control is to observe and analyze, think, stay calm, in

the stillness of the spirit, with a peaceful heart... It's to know that strategy is a way of economy of force. “The art of living is more like wrestling than dancing, in so far as it stands ready against the accidental and the unforeseen, and is not apt to fall.” (Marco Aurelio) On the other hand, think that no strategy is made by merely wishing or wanting that our opponent accepts your movement. Quite the contrary, persuading, overcoming distance, means making the enemy's game by controlling through him our own maneuvers. From the point of view of wisdom, it is accepting the inexorable dynamics of existence, in other words, everything ends up by destroying itself, dying, perishing, coming to naught; the structures that promote good mobility should maintain the possibility of loss so that in the end they can reach the reward. We can really say that even when moving from the adversary's optical and patter n, the decision about how far to remain in that position is absolutely ours. Rationally, we all possess a certain quality of pride and good sense. The eternal struggle between

Japan these two sides, considering that the one doesn't exclude the other, can be the starting point for the necessary friction of revalidating at every moment. An interesting partner, a historian, says: "I don't quite understand that way of thinking. It is normal for people who make of pride the biggest point of reflection, by not allowing the opponent to be in advantage, even if the situation is controlled. In parallel, we all reverberate in the line of self-usurpation, when we lose the relentlessly pursued north". Well, that is like allowing that the dullness of the mind should cause a whole stagnation! Observe clearly, not wanting to interrupt the steps of the adversary, positioning yourself lucidly and make of each attack of the opponent a chance for observation, is what promotes the shortage deceptively presented with the projection of the enemy's territory. I remember a notable teacher who always said: "Do not be carried away by appearances. Allow them to exist so that your opponent can gain self-confidence. " It's never so easy to get lost as when we believe we know the way." (Oriental wisdom) I have long thought about the movement structures of the human being who believes in strategy in general. Quite divided and increasingly sophisticated, heads are lost in an eternal game of hurting to win; they make the enemy the peak of their movements. Besides being an error and a mistake, that exercise causes in the person that carries it out a considerable wear which may the same as putting all your eggs in one basket ... The adversary will never be the center of our actions. He is an integral part of an idea that is modified in every moment and adapts to the conditions accepting him as part of a structure that will work as an impeller to our goals. Any structural argument that presents to us the maneuvers condition, be it in first or second person, it is deeply linked to the needs. But notice the reader: it is linked to the needs and not vice versa. When the need is greater than us, then we are the point to be negotiated. Still, everything is necessary... “BREAKIN’ UP IS HARD TO DO” For this article, I borrowed the title of a popular song by the great artist Neil Sedaka. Because it was first released in 1962 (with a new version re-released in 1975), most of our younger readers probably will not be familiar with it, but that is not important, since only the title is relevant to the subject that I want to discuss. In this context, “Breaking up” refers to the common situation of Black Belts leaving their Instructors to start their own Martial Arts school. Few mar tial arts situations are as contentious, emotional and divisive as the departure of a Black Belt c u r r e n t l y teaching at his / her M a s t e r ’s school, to branch out on their own.
GM Opinions “In this context, “Breaking up” refers to the common situation of Black Belts leaving their Instructors to start their own Martial Arts school.”
Combat Hapkido I have seen this happen hundreds of times. In fact, I chose this topic for this month’s article because, in the last few months, two of our affiliated schools have experienced that kind of separation but were handled in totally opposite ways and, c o n s e q u e n t l y, e n d e d u p w i t h t o t a l l y opposite outcomes.
“Let’s be role models and set a shining example for the rest of society to follow.”
Combat Hapkido In the first case, a 4th degree Black Belt had been working full-time at a very successful school (with over 250 students) for several years. The 39 year old was not only teaching the majority of classes, but was in effect managing the school: enrolling new students, supervising scheduling, belt promotions and other activities. About 3 years ago, he respectfully approached the Master expressing a desire to grow and be able to start his own business, with the Master’s approval and still under his supervision and guidance. He was told that he “was not ready” and that he needed to wait and continue learning. The Instructor respected the decision and continued working at the school. The following year he asked again and received the same answer. After one more year, he requested a meeting with the Master and proposed several business ideas that would offer beneficial solutions to the situation to both parties. The
Master refused to consider any proposal and told the Instructor to be content in his current position or he would find someone else. With a heavy heart, after consulting with his wife, the Instructor left the school seeing no future for professional growth and a better income. At the beginning of his employment at that school, he had signed a “Noncompete Agreement” (a common practice at US martial arts schools), designed to “protect” the Master from unfair or unethical business activities in his immediate geographical area and preventing the solicitation of his current students. The Instructor, dutifully and honorably was determined not to violate the agreement and opened his new school much further out of his Master’s area than he was required. He than contacted our office to affiliate his
GM Opinions school with our Federation. After verifying that he was in compliance with his agreement, we issued him a Charter so that he could legally teach Combat Hapkido. Unfortunately the story does not end here. A few days later, the Master informed us that he was “angry” that his former student had left to start his own program and outraged that we had granted him affiliation. He said that although he had not violated any agreement and had acted legally and ethically, we should have refused him affiliation just to “punish” him for his decision and to hurt him financially by preventing him from teaching Combat Hapkido. I was stunned by the Master’s reaction. It demonstrated insecurity, jealousy and resentment. He could not reason calmly and understand the Instructor’s needs and aspirations. He was completely blinded by ego and selfish greed. I had known the man for 20 years and was shocked by the level of malice he had displayed in this matter. He left our organization, angry that we would not agree to help him destroy his former student’s dreams of success and
economic security. Sadly, over the years, I have witnessed many cases identical or similar to this one. In another area of the Country, just a few weeks later, the same situation occurred at another of our affiliated schools. Although the details and background were not exactly the same, the result was: the Instructor left and opened his own school. But this time the Master reacted differently. He was sad to see his student of many years leave, and it also affected his business because that Black Belt was the Chief Instructor of his school. But the Master understood his student’s desire for independence, his aspirations for growth and his need of financial improvement. The Master wished his student well and offered his help if requested. He even called my office and made it clear that not only he did not have a problem with the Instructor obtaining his own Combat Hapkido Charter affiliation, but he had strongly recommended to him that he stay with us and continue teaching our system. Within a few days, the Instructor received his affiliation and started teaching our program. Now, instead of being bitter rivals competing against each other, they are still friends and are even cooperating on certain projects. You can see the stark difference between these two cases and you may wonder why this type of situation does not always end
Combat Hapkido as in our second story. Shouldn’t a Master be proud of the accomplishments of his students? Shouldn’t a Master encourage his students to grow? To branch out on their own? To reach new highs? Shouldn’t a Master wish for his students’ financial success and, ultimately, for their happiness? The answer is painfully simple: human nature at its worst. The first story illustrates some of the most destructive, negative and undesirable human emotions: selfishness, jealousy, insecurity, lack of empathy, arrogant ego, greed, thirst for power and control. Those base emotions are at the root of many of
our society’s problems, crimes and dysfunctions, and have been so for thousands of years. Unfortunately, the Martial Arts community is not immune or exempt. Many Masters and Grandmasters harbor and display those negative and destructive emotions in their dealings with their students and often even when dealing with their peers. In life we are constantly faced with difficult and challenging situations. In the Martial Arts, “breaking up” is one of them and, like the song says, “is hard to do”. But it is how we react to those situations, how we handle them that reveals our character. I hope you always choose to be honorable warriors and true Masters. Let’s be role models and set a shining example for the rest of society to follow.
GM Opinions “In life we are constantly faced with difficult and challenging situations. In the Martial Arts, “breaking up” is one of them and, like the song says, “is hard to do”.

The Arnold Sports Festival March 4-6, 2016 Columbus Ohio Another spectacular weekend full of activities, fun, excitement and great memories for men, women and children of all ages. Everyone seemed elated and in high spirits everywhere. People came from 48 countries around the world to celebrate this highly anticipated sports weekend, full of action, magnificent demonstration of skills, agility and outstanding athletes breaking world records on one grand stage in front of thousands of spectators. Each year I have the privilege to cover this great event for Budo International Magazine, and to spread the news to our fans and subscribers from around the world in nine languages through our digital and printed magazine (in Spanish, Portuguese, French, Arabic, German, Italian, Chinese, English and Latin). This mega sports event draws 18,000 competitors and brings 54 million dollars in economy boost for Ohio. Hotels are booked ten months in advance and in this one weekend the Arnold Sports Festival draws over 200,000 visitors. On Sunday March 6, 2016 the California former governor connected with John Kasich, a republican presidential candidate seeking support to win Ohio whom the Arnold donated $2700. By today’s standards the Arnold Sports Festival has grown into the World’s Largest Multi-Sports Fitness Event. It all started in 1970 when Jim Lorimer Sports, Promoter, invited the Arnold to compete in Mr. World Contest Weightlifting Championship, that ended up with them being partners to this day, and sure enough the rest is history. This year 70 sports and events were held at the Arnold Classics including the new Arnold Sports World
Kids & Teens Expo including sports competition in Archery (Buckeye), Crossfit Endeavor, Indoor Triathlon, Equestrian, Gymnastics, Spartan, Obstacle Course, Table Tennis, Taekwondo and XPC Powerlifting as well as adding IFBB seminars and adults pro league events, such as Arnold Classic Men’s Physique, 5K Pump & Run, Pound, Arm Wrestling, Arnold Strongman, Art, Cheerleading and Dance, Chess, Fencing, Guns and Hoses Boxing, International Sports Hall of Fame, Jump Rope, Martial Arts, Pole Fitness vs Power Lifting, Weight Lifting and much more. The Arnold Sports Festival has extended its borders to six continents: Asia; Australia; Madrid, Spain–Europe; Columbus Ohio-North America; Brazil-South America; South Africa- Johannesburg. The best and most outstanding moments of the 2016 winners are: Savickas Zydrunas of Lithuania winning 1st Place in the Arnold Strongman Classic for the 8th time. He trailed America’s greatest competitor Brian Shaw 35-32 entering the competition by carrying the super heavy 1,102 round wooden frame up and completed the ramp walking 35 feet in 13.0 seconds. He received $72,000. Kai Green, native of Brooklyn, won his third Arnold Bodybuilding Title. He was congratulated by the Arnold who presented him with $130,000 prize money and a trophy. This year the body building competition was awesome to see, athletes with amazing physiques, they just never give up. Especially the nine men who competed in the first Arnold Pro-wheelchair who were introduced and their story relating to the circumstances that got them in the wheelchair. Some injuries resulting from war, and motorcycle fall. The group were supportive of these athletes by the 1st round cheering them as they started the bodybuilding flex and raising the mark up to the roof. Harold Kelly won first place in this event. England’s Eddie Halk surprised everyone on the big stage at the Arnold Expo by breaking
new world record lifting 1026 pounds off the ground breaking Brian Shaw’s world record of 1021 pounds as well as defeating Hatorn Byance, actor from HBO Game of Thorns. Saturday night finals were simply fantastic, the finalists did shine on stage demonstrating their skills at the top of their games in front of judges and spectators. Endia Paulino won 1st place Miss Bikini receiving $7000 winning prize. Brad Herkson won first place Men’s Physique receiving $5000. This year Arnold Lifetime Achievement Award 2016 recipient was Dr. Rafael Santonjia, president of Inter national Federation of bodybuilding (IFBB), he replaced Ben Weider in 2006, re-elected in 2010 and 2014. IFBB is the second largest sports federation in the world. Okasana Grishina of CA won the prestigious Fitness International for third straight year. Hidetada Yamagishi of Japan won the Arnold classic 212. Latoya Watts won Figure International. For the first time at the
Arnold’s Taekwondo Competition was held in two separate locations and conducted by GM Joon P. Choi and Tokey Hill. I had the opportunity to visit GM Choi at the Ar nold Taekwondo championship and what a pleasure it was to talk with him about inter national news, martial arts physiques. Master Choi is a 9th Degree Black Belt, Senior Grand Master. He is President and Founder of Oriental Martial Arts College & Kimooda Healing Center. He started martial arts training in 1956 and began teaching in 1963. He has trained over 25,000 students and produced most U.S. National Champion World Peace Ambassador Award by United National General Chairman, Arnold Battle of Columbus Martial Arts World Games. In addition he coached in the 1988 Olympic. I was then introduced to WTU World Taekwondo United News Editor/Publisher Seok-Je Lee who captured photos of the Taekwondo segment of the event. It was at this
point that I was able to greet the Arnold as he visited the championship center with the Korean delegation. We took a few moments to talk with him and took pictures as well with some of the competitors. My next stop was to visit the martial arts, boxing, grappling and barbell freestyle championship at the Expo. My dear friend World Champion Shihan Tokey Hill is the one at the forefront of modern sports karate. In 1999 he was voted “Olympic Committee’s” coach of the year and trained U.S. athletes for competition at the Pan-Am games. He did a fantastic job. The event was very well organized. We had the chance to see competitors in Taekwondo do incredible forms, breaking and fighting feats, winning is all International Sports Hall of Fame 2016 hosted by the Arnold, Dr. Robert Goldman World Chairman – IFBB and NPC International Medical Commissions, Co-founder and chairman of the Board A4M, Founder/Chairman of
International Sports Hall of Fame, World Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine US Sports Academy’s Board of Visitors, Dr. Bob hold four Medical Degrees. Ronnie Coleman 8 Time Champion of Mr. Olympia Kurt Angle, Olympic Games medalist, world wrestling champion and superstar. The Arnold and Dr. Bob were very pleased with the outcome of the event, overall we had a great time and as always an outstanding event to remember many years to come. Congratulations to all the athletes who participated and all the winners of 2016 Arnold Sports Festival. Thank you Jim Lorimer, Matt Lorz and all the organization staff for a fantastic job and the invite to cover the event. Until next year, all the best. The Hook: Power or precision? When you see the KO by a left hook and wonder why the opponent dropped when it looked like it barely touched them, there is a real method that you too can add to your arsenal. Yes, some hooks do land with enough power to stop an elephant, but so many don’t and that is what will be described. The head has several areas that when struck at the correct angle will cause unconsciousness or at least drop the opponent as they lose motor control. The reason you don’t see it a lot more is not because of the gloves, but rather the angle of the concussion to the head. Most punches land at 90-degree angles to the head and there are no pressure points that will respond to this. The correct angle is 45 degrees, with several targets accessible from a rising or dropping motion. Several others, even though considered illegal in boxing, are accessed at a 45-degree angle from the back of the head toward the front. The body will also not handle the 45-degree angle as well as it can a straight punch and there are several targets that offer much more devastating results without massive power. So the hook punch can be a great tactical weapon in any Martial Art style including Boxing and No Holds competitions. But there is an important key that is needed to make these actually work as described, even with the correct angle, but first‌
“The head has several areas that when struck at the correct angle will cause unconsciousness or at least drop the opponent as they lose motor control.
Working the Angles Beginning with the angles, there are by far many more targets to use a dropping hook, but there are also others to work a rising fist, all easily accessed even with heavily padded boxing gloves, as we will see later. On the head lay great focal points that will add internal disruption dynamics into the hook punch. By attacking the nervous system through precision rather than the bone and muscles through power, your strikes will have a much greater effect. As an example, directly between the chin and hinge of the jaw there is a point on the facial nerve where the buccal branch crosses. This point, when struck down and in toward the center of the neck with a hooking action, will cause the loss of motor control and/or unconsciousness. Using gravity and precision rather than power will also decrease the fatigue factor that weighs in on so many fights. Another great target is directly under the corner of the mouth on both sides of the chin and again must be struck down and in at a 45- degree angle toward the center of the neck... This is called the mental nerve and will have the same effects as the first target, but with the dramatic addition of also causing more shock to the brain stem adding even more dramatic results. By attacking the nervous system as opposed to the muscular and skeletal structure, not only will greater results be evident with less power, but so too with less fatigue. Because power is generated with a synergy of muscle contractions, with it comes a simultaneous tensing of antagonistic muscles as well. The more muscle that is used in one motion, the greater the fatigue and the less mobility there is available.
Key Component There is also another key in what’s called “polarity.” This is what will make these targets work even better and with greater consistency (a considerable asset when the other guy is aiming to hurt you as well). As man is bioelectrical in nature then we must understand this key component to be able to disrupt another’s natural energy pattern to cause loss of motor control and or unconsciousness. In its most basic form it is Yin and Yang, or in more Western terms, positive and negative. We can use this natural energy to short circuit the opponent. But when striking with the left hook to the right side of the opponent’s head, the heel of the foot must be lifted to accomplish this. Without getting too technical or mystical, let’s just say that the hook will be vastly more potent if the heel is off the ground. The study of Kyusho has allowed me the eye to see and understand the KO strikes as they often occur in Boxing and No Holds Barred fights. So many of these fights have been won by KO from an accidental pressure point strike, so imagine if someone actually aimed for them.
Going with Nature Since man’s natural method of attack is the hook punch, especially under stress and the rush of adrenaline, when you look at real fights and recently the No Holds Barred fights (specifically the early ones), even highly trained Martial Artists reverted to this method. So instead of trying to go against nature, we can train to fall in with our natural instincts.
8 Targets (all legal for Boxing) There are 2 single points and 6 clustered points that are legal targets for both Boxing and No Holds fights. So no matter which way the opponent’s head is positioned there is an open target to get to. If the opponent’s head is up then the downward 45-degree hook can access either single point on the side of the jaw or down and into the 3-point cluster on the front of the jaw. Remember these must be struck down and in at a 45-degree angle, in toward the center of the neck. When the jaw is tucked (most likely the case with a more experienced fighter) the clusters of points on the forehead, side of the eye, in front of the ear and the bridge of the nose will be easier targets to get to. The points of the forehead and bridge of the nose must be struck down and in at the 45degree angle, in toward the center of the skull to cause the loss of motor control or unconsciousness. We can also attack the 2 clusters on the side of the head but must vary the angle slightly on each. The downward 45-degree hook is still used but for the eyebrow cluster we need to strike it down and in toward the eyeball itself. And for the cluster of points in front of the ear, again, down and in at a 45degree an angle, but this time in toward the center of the skull.
Safety For the street, an open palm using the same hooked attack would be safer and leave no marks for later possible legal argument, but now you must strike with the foot flat on the floor. For example, if you attack someone’s eye, there may be permanent and observable physical disfigurement. Not only is this unethical, but in a court of law you are now in double jeopardy and liable for your actions and damages. Using Kyusho properly, no outward physical damage can be observed, therefore the burden of proof lay within conjecture in the legal system... a much more arguable defense. Merely knowing the pressure points will not necessarily make you a better fighter, but they will make your hits much more effective and efficient, remembering you still need to train to get to them.
As we have documented over the past 6 years, Kyusho translates as "Vital Point" and is a study of the human condition and it's frailties. Although similar in appearance to the ancient acupuncture and pressure point massage methods, the Kyusho method can also deal with immediacy for certain trauma as well as easily rid the body of common ailments. Within seconds we canm begin to relax and ease the pain associated with headaches, backaches, muscle and internal cramps, hiccups, asthma, nausea, sinus congestion and so many more common maladies both of natural causes as well as trauma inflicted. This is all performed quickly and efficiently without expensive pills or drugs that can take 20 minutes or more to work or have serious side effects on other organs or body functions. The ramifications are enormous and we believe to be of such worth for continued research and societal benefit. This type of holistic approach has been effective for many thousands of years in cultures throughout the world and we have added even more possibility and purpose to it for you. Once you learn these simple methods of Kyusho First Aide, you too can help your family and friends with many of these common ailments we each suffer through. Let this serve as an historical record of how these methods developed and the other health possibilities they hold for day-to-day living. However it is not the full curriculum, as one would expect, the depth and intricacies can only be conveyed with hands on application and practice under the watchful eye of an instructor. The consistent practice of these methods will not only increase your abilities to relieve the practiced formulas, but also instruct you in the intuitive application of many other health issues. They should not be considered standalone formulas, but rather ways to correct certain problems within the human body based on the foundation presented.
The Pukulan Pencak Silat Serak is a system based on both weapons and empty hands at the same time. It incorporates many of the new-generation weapons, swords, knives, circular kerambits, bars, batons of different lengths and other more particular weapons. Even in our empty hand training methods we face an opponent who attacks us with weapons in both hands, as well as several opponents at once. This type of training makes us more aware of everything that happens during an altercation and what do and not do when facing one or more armed aggressors. In this second DVD, Maha Guru Horacio Rodrigues, heir to the lineage of Pendekar Pak Victor De Thouars, of Pukulan Pencak Silat Serak, addresses its particular way to train and use the different weapons, laying the foundations for more advanced future plans of study and the application of technique. This video includes the principles of work, angulation, Sambuts, Jurus and drills with the short sword "Pedang", short knife "Pissau", short stick "Tonkat Matjan", Sarong, and applications of selfdefense with empty hands.

FU-SHIH KENPO - Combat Training In Fu-Shih Kenpo, as in most styles of Martial Arts and contact sports, the fundamental premise in COMBAT is physical fitness, a matter which we have been trying repeatedly in our previous works. Little or no good can be expected of an untrained body, an unprepared gun and an unconcentrated mind at the moment of truth, whether in a s p o r t s confrontation or a s t r e e t fight. For this reason, jogging, rope jumping, exercising in general, stretching, flexibility, boxing, kicking, shadowboxing, shadow kicking, combinations, sparring partners, etc., are fundamental. Otherwise, unless you are a super highly gifted person or someone sent from God (with the due respect), you can't expect much.
Kenpo
I
n the Fu-Shih Kenpo, boxing, also called English Boxing or Irish boxing, and colloquially known as Box, is a combat sport in which two opponents fight using only their gloved fists, hitting his opponent from the waist up, within a ring specially designed for this purpose, in brief fighting sequences called rounds, and according to precise rules, which regulates weight categories and duration of the bouts, among other things. Boxing is one of the first sports that I learned in my teens and
one sport in which I believe and see maximum efficiency. In a more general way, the term Boxing refers to a wide genre of combat sports, in which two adversaries face one another using their fists, exclusively or not. This disciplines differentiate according to their particular rules in different sports as the already mentioned English Boxing (or Boxing in strict sense), French Boxing or Savate, Chinese Boxing or Shaolin Boxing, Kick Boxing or Japanese Boxing, Muay Thai or Thai Boxing, the former Greek Boxing systems like Pygmachia and Pancrazio, etc. The first codification of the rules governing Boxing matches dates back to 1743, while the rules still in force, were established in 1889 by the Marquis of Queensberry, who among other things, introduced the use of gloves. Traditionally it has been considered to be an exclusively masculine sports practice, affected legally and culturally by gender bias. The recognition of women's rights and the advances in the fight against discrimination, has led to a rise in women's Boxing in the last decades, and so the Pan-American Games of 2011 and the Summer Olympic Games of 2012 included Female Boxing in several categories. My first steps in the sports world of contact, and after Karate Shotokan and Kenpo-karate, both totally degenerated by my first "Instructor" and not "Master", started with American Boxing. I was only 17 years old and I already had a reputation in Pudahuel, my neighborhood in Santiago of Chile, because I was an Orange Belt in American Kenpo-Karate, back in 1967. Back in those days, everybody knew about our
tough and intense workouts, we really trained very very hard and therefore "we were considered different from the rest, or supermen, or even like if we were of another race." Imagine how seriously our training and feats were considered, despite our low degree, that talking about a guy who was a KARATEKA in those days was synonymous of "Look out, don't mess with him!" And that was because, apart from the hardness of our trainings and tests, we “believed in what we were doing and in ourselves, and believing in yourself makes you three times stronger.
Besides, there was much "ignorance" on the part of the people who didn't practice and were not even interested, or those who simply couldn't care less. There was too little dissemination about it... It's never the same being at war, in other words, living a real street conflict, than "imagining" it. Americans know everything, discover everything and solve everything "in films". Then the "Twin Towers" are demolished in front of their eyes and they had no clue that this could happen to "them", the semi-gods of this world... For my taste, and based on my experiences from my childhood, a kind of mix or combination of Boxing and Taekwondo is ideal, considering sports or Martial Arts, to get a good and great combat system. Boxing dominates and specializes in short distance while Taekwondo controls the middle and long distance. It

The RaĂşl GutiĂŠrrez Column is something like Full-Contact and Kick-Boxing. And I think that both from the sports point of view and that of the street fighting, is the best combination, although, in my opinion, the roguery of the street should be added to the sports. The vision and effectiveness of the street. In my seminars I often say that it's much harder perfecting a good kick or a good combination of punches, than "destroying an adversary with little effort and risk", no matter how professional and strong he can be, athletically speaking. And that I have confirmed and constantly proved! It is like breaking a glass, a dish or any other thing, slamming it against something ... Just let it fall or throw it against something. It takes very little time to destroy it, but how long did it take the manufacturer to produce it and make it reach our hands? All this may seem silly for fans, for tough guys, or even for the typical imbeciles who have their say without art or position, i.e., the "all talk and no action", those who have done nothing good or beautiful in their lives, but they "express their opinion and try to pontificate". My own father was a boxer from early childhood. He never had contact with Martial Arts until I was fifteen, when
he saw me start with them. I have said that in the past, I never saw my father lose any street confrontation; neither as a civilian, nor as a "cop". His life had been very hard. His father, my grandfather, died at age 35, reason for which, his own destiny led him to get involved in Boxing from childhood, just to survive. And that harsh reality was what made him strong until the end of his days, when at age 88 he died up in the elevator of a hospital, when he was to see his doctor because he felt unwell. Hard life, sweet death. My old man deserved to die in peace and almost painless, because he had suffered enough and because he was always a noble and legal man. I believed in my father, who never disappointed me, and I believe in Boxing because it didn't disappoint me either. Furthermore, and regardless of whether I practiced Shotokan Karate or American Kenpo-Karate, I always felt attracted by the good use of the legs. Thus, in the 80's I got my 3rd Dan Black Belt, granted by the "United TaeKwon-Do International", UTI, and my Full-Contact 6th Dan, signed by BILL WALLACE. Regardless of all the existing systems, I've met and I've trained with more or less intensity: Boxing, Karate, TaeKwon-Do, Kenpo, Full-Contact and Kick-Boxing, and I've
The Raúl Gutiérrez Column been lucky enough to know and workout with personalities such as Pepe Legrá, José Durán and Alfredo Evangelist; in Karate styles with Arturo Petit, Tatzuo Zuzuki and Robert Trias; Kempo with Petit, Ed Parker, Frank Trejo and Jeff Speakman; Kung-Fu in with Jon Fanning; Limalama with Jorge Vazquez; Full-contact with Bill Wallace; Kick-Boxing with Benny Urquidez, Joe Lewis, etc. This, apart from my street experiences and interventions in the police field. That's why, athletically, I have a preference for the contact systems in the line of Kick-Boxing and Muay Thai, without reaching the brutality of certain styles or modern competition rules, because I believe that such violence, camouflaged in sports terms, "is not necessary" among human beings. We are not in war times or battlefields. I think that the very reality concerning the global crisis in itself should move us to practice sports and Martial Arts, to improve as human beings being more noble, humble and useful to society. Problems come alone and we must train to stay strong and keep a clear mind, to overcome every obstacle that life itself puts ahead of us. But never to beget more evil, causing harm to others and to our wonderful world, which is already suffering from our own barbarity and abuse towards it. Like I said before, growing flowers, for example, takes a lot of work and care, but is very easy trampling them or cutting them and thus break the beauty and harmony of the landscape itself. I train every day to stay alive and lucid, to continue enjoying the excellence of our world, to live intensely with my family, my friends and students and even with each new acquaintance. I live to contemplate each new sunrise or sunset, to photograph every landscape of my surroundings, to admire the trees and flowers in spring... and finally to try to be happy and spread peace and harmony to my fellow men, but never to cause harm and pain in any possible way.
“Boxing dominates and specializes in short distance while Taekwondo controls the middle and long distance. It is something like FullContact and Kick-Boxing. And I think that both from the sports point of view and that of the street fighting, is the best combination.”
The Raúl Gutiérrez Column But although I've always been, thought and felt this way, life has taken me by different paths, in which also I made my own mistakes, until I started to understand certain mechanisms of our existence. So now I understand that everyone must live his or her own life, experience his or her own stages, with hits and mistakes, successes and failures. And now, at this time and in these chapters, my mission is also that of informing, communicating and transmitting. And what is now necessary is to talk about how to prepare our youngsters for sports competitions and / or martial, so let's get gradually into it. So far we have talked about physical and technical training, flexibility, stretching, kicking, ballast weights, etc. Now, at this stage it is appropriate to go on with Jogging as a key factor for resistance, and also the punches, for example. Jogging is a physical exercise that involves running a long distance at a moderate and steady pace, alone or in a group, without competitive zeal. Physical exercise is essential to enjoy good health. Although there are many people who often feel very heavy when it comes to start exercising, the truth is that when they do it regularly, they end up enjoying it. For that we need to consider starting slowly, at least twice a week. If you manage to overcome this discipline for at least 2, 3 or 4 weeks, it'll be great because the fact of noticing personal improvements in such a short time will be enough to motivate you to continue. Undoubtedly, many benefits are provided to us by practicing a sport regularly.
What is jogging? Jogging is a type of exercise consisting of trotting or running at a slow or leisurely pace for 10 to 20 minutes or more. Ideally it should be practiced 3 to 4 times a week, which brings us very important benefits to our health. Among the highlights, we find that we find that jogging is useful to lose weight and get slimmed, allowing to burn up to 350 calories in barely half an hour.
“Problems come alone and we must train to stay strong and keep a clear mind, to overcome every obstacle that life itself puts ahead of us.”
Kenpo It also helps reduce stress and the day by day anxiety, while toning your abs, focusing on aerobic and anaerobic sports such as Martial Arts and contact sports. Aerobic exercise is a physical exercise that needs breathing. It covers the most common exercises like walking, marching, trotting, dancing, skiing, cycling, etc. Its aim is that of achieving a greater resistance. In order to obtain the needed energy to perform these activities, it's necessary to burn carbohydrates and fats, and this requires oxygen. It is called aerobic exercise (also known as cardio) the one which requires oxygen, while anaerobic exercise doesn't need O2. It is much easier to understand with examples, so here are some: Running, cycling, dancing or swimming are activities that require constant effort and are based on muscular endurance and cardiovascular capacity, what we call aerobic exercise. People in general often resort to this type of exercise to burn fat and lose weight, combining it with anaerobic exercise, in order to achieve an increase in muscle mass. The term "aerobic" includes those activities of medium or low intensity that can be performed for extended periods. As we have already noted, in this case the body demands oxygen to burn fat and carbohydrates. The heart rate varies between 120 and 170 beats per minute.
Anaerobic exercise The term "anaerobic" designates explosive exercises of high intensity and short duration, where the muscle works without oxygen: weight lifting, sprinting, Martial Arts, jumps in athletics events, etc. Anaerobic exercises or activities are focused on strengthening the musculoskeletal system to increase the bodily performance and tone the muscles. The heart rate is over 180 beats per minute. Anaerobic exercise is classified into two types: alactic and lactic. The first covers explosive efforts of short duration (0-16 seconds), where the presence of oxygen is almost nil. An example of this is found in short races or sprints. Meanwhile, in the lactic anaerobic exercise would encompass all those physical activities that last no more than 3 minutes.
“In my seminars I often say that it's much harder perfecting a good kick or a good combination of punches, than "destroying an adversary with little effort and risk", no matter how professional and strong he can be, athletically speaking.

Budo International: What is Instinct? Justo DiĂŠguez: Instinct cannot be explained in a rational manner, since the very phenomenon of Instinct is irrational. Instinct is something that is beyond man's intellect, it comes from someplace where intellect has no place; you can feel it, but you cannot explain, you may notice that something has happened because a vacuum, a chance, is created.
B.I.: Where does Instinct occur? J.D.: The explanation would answer questions like, where does it take place? Why does it happen? What is the cause? Instinct is a territory of events that has no relation to our thoughts, Instinct is something far superior. Instinct is not run by technical thinking, so it cannot be developed through Technique. Instinct is much higher than thought; it can use technical thought as a means, but not

vice versa, because Instinct stands head and shoulders above technical thinking. Look at it this way: the mind is superior to the body, isn't it? The mind can direct the body, but the body cannot direct or control the mind. B.I.: What is the Instinct's vehicle? J.D.: Instinct needs no vehicle to travel. Once we feel the Instinct, technical thinking is pushed into the background, very necessary to be able to transmit the objectives in a physical way. There's no explanation about the superiority
of the Instinct over the technical mind, nevertheless the technical mind can feel that there has happened something that is beyond ourselves, and the very fact of recognizing that this something has happened, i.e., that there has been a void where a top force has made us express something in a natural way, out of the technical mind, is very important in itself; it's in this moment when our mind will believe in a top inner force. Of course, technical thinking can also reject what has happened, and if you do think that what cannot be explained through the

technical mind does not exist, it means that you will go on being stuck on the technical thought, hindering the Instinct to speak to you. B.I.: Is the technical mind compatible with Instinct? J.D.: We can and we must use the technical mind, who said we had to be closed? We can use the technical mind as the instrument it is, and thus remain open, receptive... this way of thinking will help us recognize and understand
the moment when something superior, instinctive, nontechnical, has occurred. We can use our technical mind for the expression of our movements, not for the explanation thereof. Instinct is a leap, not something that comes step by step; it's something that happens to you, not something that comes to you; without casualties, without an origin. Instinct is something that happens all of a sudden, nothing can grasp it because it's not anything that can be transmitted,
B.I.: The technical mind and Instinct? J.D.: The technical mind is divided into cause and effect, the known and the unknown. Instinct is based on the unknowable, what you cannot know; such is the realm of Instinct, you can feel it but you cannot explain. B.I.: The technical mind and Instinct in self-defense? J.D.: Today Martial Arts are far from the "why" and the "what for" for which they were created; technical
development is lived with total fanaticism, and it's sold as the key to an absolute self-defense. Martial Arts have become contact sports with rules increasingly distant of the reality of the streets and their brutal predators. Selfdefense is not in a technical mind; it's not in repeating the same techniques ad infinitum and is not in beating an opponent in the ring, Self-defense begins with valuing ourselves; it presupposes respect for self and others; on the one hand,

it requires some principles and a technical mind which, with the understanding of our body mechanics, will help us to understand and improve our physical and emotional tools so that we can reach a personal expression of our own, adapted to our potential. Only then shall we be able to perceive the extraordinary that lies behind an action, even if it's not perfect in its execution.
B.I.: Your next article? J.D.: I want to talk about woman, that woman who could be my mother or yours, my sister or yours, my daughter or yours, my wife or yours. I want to talk about the harassment to which she is submitted, to the humiliation and violence that she must suffer for free in one way or another.

WingTsun Wing Tsun and the "Simple" Style It is common to see many publications on W ing Ts u n (magazines, forums, advertising, etc.) stating with great certainty, that the most important feature of the Art is its simplicity. When a WT fan walks down a street in a city in Europe and notices a poster where Wing Tsun classes are offered, it is striking that almost all of them r efer to the "simplicity" of the system as something that defines the style. Years ago I could more or less agree. At present, the more I advance in the practice of this art, the more aware I am that this simplicity is only an appearance. In my opinion, this system of "rar e" aspect and light positions (or so it seems to the non-practitioner), encloses a difficulty, only accessible to those willing to go a long way; people able to see and understand the mythical phrase of great Leonardo Da Vinci, that read something like: "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication".
The WT Column
WingTsun
I
n my humble opinion, this fantastic quote, which sums up perfectly the spirit that should mark the path of practice in Wing Chun, has been confused countless times.
The basis both technical and philosophical of the style, tries to reduce any technical / mental process to the binary system, and it therefore tends to minimizing all decisionmaking: 1 or 0, positive or negative, white or black, YANG or YING. Something simple in appearance, but the hardest of all battles in practice. As Great Master Wong Shun Leung said: "Man has the strange disease of complicating things." Master Wong, perhaps one of the most important Wing Chun masters of the modern era, is certainly a clear example of the dilemma that generates trying to oversimplify something that in practice is not so simple. And it is not so because of that "strange disease of complicating things" inherent in every man. Few (very few I'd say) are those capable to isolate themselves from all noise and movements and carry out a mental and technical process regardless of whatever their opponents attempt at any stage or situation. It's precisely then when the first of the battles is being waged. If we define the overall strategy of Wing Tsun, we will agree that it doesn't seem too complicated. It seems to have been clearly drawn by its principles: • If the way is free, MOVE FORWARD (don’t withdraw). 2. If you crash with your enemy, REMAIN GLUED TO HIM. 3. If the force (or the moment of force) is superior to yours, YIELD. 4. If your opponent retreats, CHASE HIM. Maybe we should try to explain it more in detail, even for those people who don't habitually practice Wing Chun Kuen:
The WT Column 1. If the way is free, MOVE FORWARD (don’t withdraw). 2. If you crash with your enemy, REMAIN GLUED TO HIM. 3. If the force (or the moment of force) is superior to yours, YIELD. 4. If your opponent retreats, CHASE HIM.
WingTsun 1. We will remain in a totally immobile position to the eyes of our opponent (but loaded with elastic force), waiting for him to enter our application distance. 2. We will NOT show the slightest movement or tension. Not a single millimeter to the eyes of our enemy. We will wait like a predator expecting its prey. 3. At the very moment in which the enemy enters our distance, we will jump onto him with all our body protecting ourselves with our hands and legs, to try to close the gap between both of us in the fastest possible way. We must enter his movement when his onslaught (or attempted) has begun. The longer we are able to withstand the attack, the less capability of response our enemy will have. 4. If in the clashing with the enemy we find the path free (unhindered), we will strike nonstop to victory, without letting him recover from our flow of CONTINUOUS attacks. If, on the contrary, we find obstacles, we'll stick with arms and legs to him so as to inhibit his attacks, deflect them, or move to a safe angle, but ALWAYS with the intention to free ourselves immediately from their limbs and "pass his guard" to hit him again in a fluid and continuous way. And a very important detail: Once started the conflict, we must take it to the end. Do not allow the adversary to carry out multiple attempts, as is most likely to happen if you allow him to step away and redo again. As you can see, what for many seems simple, perhaps is not so in practice. In fact, everything gets complicated because it has not been adequately explained the need to separate into two parts: on the one hand the system strategy and on the other hand the technique. The technique allows you to carry out the strategy. And the strategy is made possible
The WT Column
WingTsun by the existence of such technique / attributes acquired through practice. Separate, different, but in all cases complementary (yin and yang). I firmly believe that understanding these two ideas, separate while complementary, is a correct starting point for training, and above all an excellent target that will steer the right course of our practice. Again, this concept that serves us as origin and goal at the same time shows us the inseparable influence of Taoism in Wing Tsun. Referring to the technique, a practitioner of Wing Tsun should understand that reducing to the binary code 1 and 0 involves a number of advantages over other styles. Let's explain briefly this concept: When a non-practitioner of our style looks from the outside the execution of techniques by a qualified master, what surprises him most is the speed at which the master can move his hands and, especially, the precision and apparent simplicity with which he can overcome somebody else. I often affirm that the speed of a Wing Tsun practitioner has nothing to do with genetic speed. In fact, the fastest practitioners are often almost elderly practitioners. The root of this speed is especially based on the "mental non-processing" of reactions and techniques. That is, through methodical training of the reactions and techniques in the Chi Sao, the practitioner manages to reduce to a minimum any response. That is, a practitioner collides with an arm of his enemy; in that clash, the practitioner PERCEIVES (through tactile sensitivity) if there is a free path (1), or if, on the contrary, it's closed (0). One answer or another
The WT Column “Once started the conflict, we must take it to the end. Do not allow the adversary to carry out multiple attempts, as is most likely to happen if you allow him to step away and redo again.
WingTsun will generate the reaction acquired in the training: 1 = go forward hitting, 0 = stay glued to the limb with which he has crashed. If the adversary, after colliding with our attack, moves his hand to close our entry, it means that there's an opening elsewhere. Yielding to the superior force is only finding / feeling that the door is closed, and seeking entry into another position automatically. As you can see, this process is repeated in each and every one of the situations that can occur in a confrontation. Mastery is achieved when, through proper training, these quick choices are processed in a completely autonomous way. After all this complex explanation, who would dare to say that Wing Chun Kuen is a simple style? Not me, of course! As it happens in countless occasions, we tend to ignore or simplify what we don't understand or what exceeds us by its big complexity. This, in my opinion, is the cause of many of the ills of Chinese systems. Fortunately, Buddhist, Confucian and Taoist philosophy (mostly the latter) are part of the DNA of the system, and you can't achieve the mastery of the Art by separating what is inseparable. Any attempt to separate denatures the style and turns it into a "caricature" of what it actually is. Indeed, it seems to be real, but basically doesn't have much to do with reality. So let me say without fear of contradiction that simplicity is not among the main virtues of this style. Or, paraphrasing again my admired Leonardo Da Vinci: "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication". What happens when two people practice Chi-Sao, what is the meaning of their practice and what the objectives? In this 3rd DVD, "Chi Sao from the base to an advanced level," Sifu Salvador SĂĄnchez addresses perhaps the most important aspect of Wing Chun: ChiSao, the soul of the system itself, which provides the practitioner with some special characteristics which are completely different from others, and gives him great virtues. This role deals with some aspects quite basic in principle, but as you delve into them, they'll be surprising to you. It is a very clear feature traditional Chinese culture; what it's very obvious at first glance, it nevertheless contains a second or third reading, which will surely change your approach, practice and understanding. We will discuss how to practice Chi Sao through our working drills and how to apply those drills, that ability in a sparring, linking certain concepts, perhaps not so much tied to traditional Kung Fu, such as biomechanics, structures, knowledge of physics, etc., in order to obtain better results in our practice.

Muay Boran
The golden age of Ayuddhaya Going back in time to analyse Mae Mai Muay Thai history, it can be seen how it has its roots in the golden age of Siamese Martial Arts, an era which corresponds to the time when Ayuddhaya was the capital of the Kingdom (from the second half of the 17th century until 1774). In the 417 years that Ayuddhaya was the capital city it was governed by 34 sovereigns, members of five dynasties. With a strategic position at the junction of 3 rivers, Chao Praya, Pa Sak and Lopburi, the city was crossed by channels which were also used as trade routes: more than 40 markets were operating on the city’s streets and more than 30 on the outside.
Muay Boran
yuddhaya played a key role in the economic (agriculture and trade grew drastically) and cultural growth of the kingdom; Buddhist and Hindu religions flourished and many of the temples which still can be seen today were built at that time. Such temples were the place where many arts, among which martial arts, were highly developed. Ayuddhaya’s splendour was the actual basis for the future development of the reigns of Thonburi and Bangkok and for today’s Thailand, too. With such a background many were key figures that marked the development of the fighting disciplines in that era; among them, scholars consider the following two as the most charismatic and influential.
A
Tiger King Phra Chao Sua T h e s o v e re i g n s h a v e a l w a y s p l a y e d a n important role in the evolution of Muay Thai that is why it was called the Art of the Kings; undoubtedly the most famous fighting King was Prachao Sua, who was called Tiger King for his strength as a fighter and his bravery in combat. There is a legend which tells that he liked to fight a lot, so much that he even used to leave the Capital Ayuddhaya and travel incognito in his kingdom, to challenge the local champions, whom he actually always defeated. It was King Sua who ordered the Siamese army to train regularly in the national Martial Art of Siam, Muay Thai, and he personally contributed to the
Muay Boran
foundation of many Kai Muay (training camps) all over the country. But let's take a step back and let's get back to the time of the King's youth, when he was still known as Khun Luang Sorasak, in the early years of the 18th century. At that time the capital of the kingdom of Siam was Ayuddhaya, founded by King U-Thong. Rebuilt after the first thai defeat by the Burmese army, Ayuddhaya stood as the glorious capital of the kingdom for 417 years. The city was located in a geographically advantageous
position and it represented the summit of Siamese civilization for many years, both from an artistic and cultural point of view and, of course, it was the center of the political and military power, too. For many thai scholars, the early years of the 18th century in Ayuddhaya were the golden age of Muay Thai. In many respects, the Thai fighting system that has come to our days has its roots in the fighting form studied and improved in the capital during those glorious years. Pra Chao Sua was undoubtedly one of the main names of that time, thanks to his genuine
Muay Boran
passion for the fighting technique since he was a child. Thanks to his privileged position, Khun Luang Sorasak, hungry for knowledge, wanted to be surrounded by the best Khru Muay of the time; masters from different parts of the country came together to Ayuddhaya, carrying with them special styles and systems of Muay. Under the Prince’s watchful eyes, the royal court became an amazing laboratory where the best strategies and techniques of empty-handed fighting were confronted, tested and synthesized, as perhaps it had never happened before. Never satisfied, Khun Luang personally carried out a research about the most sophisticated Mai Muay (fighting techniques), leaving the palace in order to visit the best training camps of the Kingdom and to explore the methodologies used by the different masters. Thanks to his great athletic skills and his tireless passion, the Prince, after reaching the throne as Phrachao Sua, didn’t hesitate to pretend to be a farmer to challenge
local champions, trying his fighting ability without the powerful protection of his supreme condition, which would have prevented whoever from fighting against him. From a technical point of view, thanks to the most recent researches carried out by Thai Culture Commission, we know that King Sua’s contribution was essential to the formulation of an improved "technical curriculum", which was used for years as a guide for training the Damruot Luang, royal guard battalion, the first elite unit (now called special forces) of the Thai Army in Ayuddhaya’s time. According to some authors, the royal battalion’s combat style, known as Muay Luang, would be the result of the systematization of the fighting method “created” by Tiger King Phrachao Sua. According to this method, the warrior practitioner of Muay must first train to become proficient in evasive techniques, as the Latin saying goes: "primum vivere". Those defensive strategies are divided into four styles of
defense based on the natural weapon used by the enemy to attack. Therefore, we can study 29 ways to defend and counterattack against punches; 25 forms of defense and counterattack against kicks; 3 forms of defense and counterattacks against knee blows, and 4 forms of defense and counterattack against elbow blows. In addition, to cope with situations where a quick offensive action is needed, for example for the presence of many opponents who have to be quickly beaten, Prachao Sua’s method is enriched by 22 forms called "sudden attack". By further analyzing Muay Luang we find out that the fighting system of King Sua reveals an unsuspected technical expertise for that time. Tiger King was a great expert in the most sophisticated aspects of Martial Arts and the effectiveness of his codified actions didn’t rely on an indiscriminate use of physical strength, but on a detailed knowledge of human anatomy (especially regarding sensitive and vital points), and the most rational use of the
main natural weapons of the body. He brought together powerful leg and arm attack techniques and unpredictable movements (jumps, level changes, twists), which made the fighter skilled in Muay Luang capable of easily adapting to different situations and opponents. Thanks to his enormous passion for Muay, King Sua brought together the best masters of the golden age of Ayuddhaya that under his guidance created a real basis for what has been one of the most estimated and feared combat Arts in the world for centuries.
Nai Khanom Thom, the Thai warrior According to the ancient Thai Masters, Muay Thai, the traditional fighting system of Thai people, is an art of combat that gives its students the ability to fight against one or possibly more opponents, using the human body's natural weapons, from head to toes; in combat you must
Muay Boran
be able to use the arms to hit, grab and grapple, and each body part is prepared in the best possible way to be a "tool" to attack and defend against all kinds of attacks (from the front, side and back). The serious student must learn about the weak points of the human body so that he can reach them with his attacks and he has to train the strong parts of his own body, to use them as defensive shields and as blades, sticks and maces to attack. Therefore the Siamese Martial Art is called the style of the "9 weapons, because Muay Thai teaches how to use with scientific efficiency head, hands, elbows, knees and legs, according to the so called Chern Muay offensive strategies. The human body, when properly trained, fueled by the warrior spirit that makes it fight without fear, truly becomes a weapon: this is the creed of most of the Eastern fighting Arts. The legends of the martial traditions of India, China, Japan, Korea and throughout the South-East Asia are full of episodes in which the hero defends himself against rows of armed enemies, using only his limbs and his courage as weapons. In Muay Thai, the most emblematic figure of those traditions, midway between legend and history and certainly an example for all followers of that Art, is the famous warrior Nai Khanom Thom. His life story
represents the archetype of the exploits of the hero warrior, loyal to his homeland and to his Martial Art, who at the time of maximum frustration and difficulty gets from his core values the inspiration to fight back, to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles, restoring freedom for himself, his comrades and, indirectly, all of his people. Taken prisoner by the Burmese, invaders of his homeland, imprisoned during the terrible sack of the former capital of Siam Ayuddhaya in 1774, Nai Khanom Thom was taken to Burma (now Myanmar) with many of his fellow soldiers. During a series of fight tournaments where the Burmese forced the prisoners to fight as gladiators, the Burmese King Mangra saw Thom and observed our hero’s great combat skills. Willing to test the effectiveness of the Siamese fighting style, which caused many losses among the Burmese conquerors, the king Mangra decided to force the best Thai prisoner to fight in unarmed combat against a row of Burmese gladiators, chosen among the best in his army. The great strength of the fighting system used by the Thais could not overcome the skill of the best fighters of Burma! Here history and legend are mixed: it is told that an epic bare knuckles battle to death took place between the Thai champion and 10 Burmese fighters (according to other versions they were 12 or even 13).
Muay Boran
The truth is that the style of combat of Nai Khanom Thom was very similar to what is known today as Muay Kard Chiek or fight with wrapped hands. Thom was used to employing all the resources from his own being, both physical and mental, to defeat his opponents. The Muay Kard Chiek fighters of that time were compared to ferocious tigers since they were allowed to utilize any action to attack and win, no holds barred: punches, elbow and knee strikes, kicks, head butts, joint locks, strangles, throws, even bites and "claws" against the soft parts of the opponents were a part of what a gladiator of that time could employ and was skilled to apply. In Burma Nai Khanom Thom had to face the toughest challenge of his entire career as a soldier and fighter:
struggling not only for his own life but also to save his comrades and to win back freedom. With such a burden on his shoulders, it is told that the Thai hero succeeded in defeating his opponents one after another, leading the fights intelligently, using successfully his better footwork and speed of action. The Burmese were known for the power of their punches and for their strength in close combat, so Thom exploited his speed as much as possible, striking with kicks, knees and elbows (his bones as hard as iron), against the vital points of his opponents. The traditional Thai shorts, loincloth style, made his movements easier, allowing him not to be struck by the attacks of the Burmese fighters. Anyway, the legend says that once all the opponents were defeated, it
was King Mangra himself who decided to give freedom to the Thai hero and to all his fellow soldiers imprisoned with him. It is said that the King watched amazed the incredible show of power by the Siamese fighter and came to say that "every body part of the Thais is poisonous, even without weapons they manage to beat their enemies". The positive effect of Nai Khanom Thom’s feat, in addition to his immediate freedom, was to restore confidence to all the Thai people, beaten but never dominated. Since then, the figure of that great hero is the symbol of the indomitable spirit of Thai Martial Arts: the true martial artist is he who puts his sense of honor before his own personal interest, even if that would lead him to withstand great sacrifices. The pride of his homeland, of Thai Martial
Arts, of the school where he had been trained and his Master and of the community of fellow practitioners: these are the values for which Nai Khanom Thom fought and therefore his figure is still remembered today and worthy of all respect. For centuries, March 17 has been his day and in Thailand and in the rest of the world, practitioners of any level of Muay Thai honor him, today as they have been doing for centuries. Members of our International Academy IMBA around the world, on the occasion of this event, regularly gather in Ayuddhaya to attend a big ceremony promoted by the Association Institute of Thai Martial Arts (AITMA) to pay homage to the figure of the great warrior and to prepare new comers to join the big family of Muay Boran.
Comprehensive or Integral Vovinam is simply going back to the Founder's true Vovinam. The goal of the founder was clearly and openly declared: "Harvesting effective techniques, assimilate their essence and transform them into Vovinam techniques", and indeed this concept still remains in force and is mandatory for all Vovinam Masters in the world. Vovinam is then a research concept to achieve a super effective style. However, today 90% of Vovinam teachers forget it and bend to a program too loaded, too fixed, too aesthetic and sometimes completely ineffective in numerous techniques. Comprehensive Vovinam is simply rediscovering the original essence of Master Nguyen Loc's art. For that, we have the principles, the basic techniques, and we just have to go back to work out the effective way of every technique and apply the founding principle. In this DVD, by the hand of Master Patrick Levet, we will study the basis of Integral Vovinam, threats and knife attacks, integral counterattacks, and defense against Dam Thang (direct fist) Dam Moc (hook punch), Dam Lao (javelin punch) as well as basic leg levers.

This year’s event was simply awesome. Competitors came from Italy, Germany, Canada, Russia, Egypt, Mexico and etc. At the OSGN everyone has the chance to witness some of the most dynamic martial arts performance. The new wave of applying changes with spectacular gymnastic and into the creative forms. The atmosphere was very electrifying and no doubt the feeling was like being at the Las Vegas Cirque du Soleil Show. With blasting music and much action from competitors with weapons such as Swords, Nunchuks, Bow, and Tunfa it was a bit difficult to observe their moves and techniques yet on the other hand for the competitors it offered a feeling of empowerment and drive along with the excitement and the power that comes with it to execute perfection. that got some Grand Champion finalists to score a perfect 10 on the score card. I personally do feel a sense of pride and deep satisfaction seeing competitors continue the tradition and values that preserve martial arts amidst the challenges of today. It was a pleasure to see Cynthia “Lady Dragon” Rothrock, my dear friend for many years who was the special guest. We had the opportunity to discuss the growth of martial arts worldwide and other things. Among this year OSGN’s 2016 Hall of Fame inductees were: Barbara Bernhardt, Jackie Greenhalgh, Henry Guidoboni, Denise Rouleu, Jim Smith and Gerald Dawson. The event was widely covered by various news
media including Budo International Martial Arts Magazine and of course an ecstatic audience capturing each moment. The final night started with welcome spread by Don & Christine and my good friend Mr. Dennis Brown as the evening announcer, followed by the National Anthem. The nonstop action then started with demo team mix of young and adult martial artists who did a superb traditional form to the pleasing crowd, Edrian Kennedy won Grand Champion 13/under BB forms. Emery McKenzie almost got a perfect 10 from the judges won the Women’s Weapons. Jackson Rudolph won the Men’s Weapons and the awesome Team Paul Mitchell won the Team Fighting division. Nicole Peled won the Women’s BB Fighting. Jack Pressley’s fast action gave him a 1417 win in Weapons. Jalan Vash won the Men’s Traditional Forms Grand, this was such unbelievable to watch. Taylor Weaver demonstrated such an outstanding performance of techniques won the Men’s BB CMX Forms Grand. One can always expect a superb delivery from him.
