SB GOOD TO KNOW BY SEVA MAY BOSSIER SCHOOLS SELECTS 2021-22 DISTRICT STUDENTS OF THE YEAR Bossier Schools Superintendent Mitch Downey and a cadre of educators surprised Christian Willis, Ella Sims and Jayden Toussaint with news they were selected as the district’s Students of the Year, the highest honor bestowed on students at the parish level. Each of these academically excelled and remarkably talented students are the epitome of excellence in their own right. Jayden Toussaint is a senior at Bossier High School and will represent the parish as High School Student of the Year. Ella Sims is an eighth grader at Benton Middle School and the Bossier Parish Middle School Student of the Year. Christian Willis is in fifth grade and a proud Haughton Elementary Buccaneer. “Each year our district Students of the Year amaze me by their drive and leadership and these three certainly fill that bill,” Downey said. “We are incredibly proud of these students and confident they will represent us well as they move on to the next level of the state competition.”
GREATER SHREVEPORT CHAMBER HONORS BUSINESS LEADERS OF THE YEAR The Greater Shreveport Chamber honored long standing businessmen and philanthropists Glenn and Chris Kinsey as the Chamber’s Business Leaders of the Year for 2021 at its 112th Annual Banquet, presented by Willis Knighton Health System. SWEPCO SEEKS APPROVAL FOR NEW LOUISIANA SOLAR PROJECT Southwestern Electric Power Co., an American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP) company, announced plans to add 72.5 megawatts (MW) of solar energy by Dec. 1, 2024, through a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Rocking R Solar, LLC (Rocking R), an affiliate of D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI). The proposal supports SWEPCO’s long-term plan of increasing its use of more clean energy sources, such as solar and wind. In a January 28 filing, SWEPCO seeks approval of the proposal from the Louisiana Public Service Commission (LPSC). The proposal is also subject to review by the Arkansas Public Service Commission (APSC) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Regulatory filings in Texas will be made at a later date. The project – named Rocking R Solar Facility – will be located approximately 20 miles north of Shreveport, La., near Hosston. The new facility will help fulfill SWEPCO’s commitment made to the LPSC in May 2020 to pursue up to 200 MWs of solar generation in its service territory. ADAM BASS ASSUMES BOSSIER PARISH SCHOOL BOARD PRESIDENCY Adam Bass, an active businessman and community member who served as Vice President last year of the Bossier Parish School Board, assumed the 2022 Presidency at the January 20 School Board meeting. “As a husband to a Bossier Parish educator and a father to three Bossier Parish students, it is important for me to highlight the fact that every decision that I make for you and your family, I also make for the people I love the most on Earth,” Bass said. GREATER SHREVEPORT CHAMBER NAMES ALLYSON WALKER DIRECTOR OF MARKETING, COMMUNICATIONS, AND PUBLIC RELATIONS The Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that Allyson Walker has been appointed as the Chamber’s Director of Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations. Walker, a Shreveport native and Northwestern State University graduate, is a local marketing and communications professional who brings large market, small market and global experience to the role. Walker was most recently the Marketing Manager for the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission where she supported the more than 100 events hosted by the Sports Commission each year.
