BELONGING IS YOUR BIRTHRIGHT. PART 1/3 If you have spent your life earning your worth, bartering for belonging, scraping together a sense of wholeness, hustling up a sense of security paid for in instalments, tit for tat... Let me ask you... Who decided you didn’t belong? Who decided you weren’t enough? Who told you you were not already intrinsically worthy and whole and a part of not just something but of everything? Who told you this lie for the very first time? (Was it you?) Because, dear one, this idea that somehow you aren’t already perfectly formed, perfectly made for this world is not just improbable, but impossible. Your belonging is not something to be weighed and measured or calculated and earned. Your belonging is not evaluated by application once you have become something more. Your belonging began the very moment the first cells of your being began to quiver and shake. That was your invitation and your initiation. Because, Who looks at a mountain and says: just a bit out of place. Who says to a river: a little to the right. Who asks the sun: turn it down a notch. Who orders the moon: stop changing shape. Who tsks at the tussock grasses for dancing in the wind? Who raises an eyebrow at how quietly the tree breathes? Who whispers to the lake: I wish you were an ocean. Who tells the cloud: you aren’t meant to be here. Who scolds the lichen: don’t cling so tightly. Who tells the flower she is a petal short? No one. Not you, not me, not God or the divine or nature itself. And if all of that, all of creation, is good enough, just as it’s made, why wouldn’t you be, too?
