WHILST THE OPTIONS FOR US TO

get out, socialise and exercise around town this week have become very limited, there still remains 7 days in every week for us to make the most of. Words and advice always come easier to us in comparison to taking actions and steps forward. We all have our boat to row this week and the chance to be part of the solution.

If you are a local business owner then the Free Workshop: Government Stimulus Advice for Businesses, hosted by Byron Bay Chamber of Commerce, is worth investigating. The free webinar that includes a live Q & A will run this Thursday 26th March from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. You can register at byronbaychamber.com/Stimulus-Workshop For info and guidance on the Coronavirus I recommend you follow the official and professional advice from: •

On a lighter note, with this time at home I do like a game of DIY mini golf around the house, with coffee cups for holes and furniture, doors and walls for the course. The course ends at the 19th A.K.A. my fridge for a celebratory coldie. That reminds me, Stone & Wood are offering free delivery for online orders at stoneandwood.com.au Cheers. Physical social distancing and isolation does not mean we can’t see each other’s faces or share a joke or story with friends and family. With baby steps in mind “Netflix and chill” is more like “Netflix and party” now thanks to netflixparty.com You can synchronise playback of shows with others at a different location and chat on screen. For bigger next level steps the party does not stop, thanks to Sydney’s Room to Radios Online Nightclub that launched last Friday. It is back for round 2 this Friday from 8 pm. For entry you’ll need to remember your Facebook password, meet your friends at the event page chat room and be your own bartender, cos it’s BYO (so you can drink shots in Byron, ahem). Head to Facebook: Room 2 Radio If that all seems a little too wacky then you can just call your friends and family, or try a Zoom video party call with the gang. Now many cafes and restaurants are offering delivery services you don’t need to miss out on fave dishes during the lockdown. Make it a virtual long lunch or dinner date. A healthy body is a step closer to a healthy mind and Byron’s favourite superhero has stepped up by offering his fitness

I KNOW THAT WE ARE ALL FEELING THE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF THE

coronavirus, even if we’ve been lucky enough to have been spared the direct health consequences. Over the last few weeks many businesses have decided to, or been advised to, close their doors until this public health crisis is resolved. The Byron Bazaar has always been a place to get your weekly dose of good news; to find out what’s going on, in and around town; to share with a mate over coffee; to read when you’re on a break. This crisis doesn’t change that – in fact it makes it all the more important! But how we get the magazine to you will change to meet the current health circumstances. We plan to keep the production wheels turning, with a new issue each and every Thursday – but it will only be available digitally. • • • • • •

Gisela will keep us up to date with our weekly Tarotscopes; Keenwa will keep us entertained with her sage advice; Well Read and Ear Candy will keep our book and music recommendations coming in; Tagged in Town will go on highlighting the gloriousness of the Byron shire; Around Town will keep us all up to date with what is still going on and who might be dropping in for a Q&A And importantly, for those many businesses who remain open for business, we want to give them a forum to keep talking to all of you.

The digital version of the Byron Bazaar is a convenient way for you to get your copy each week. Read it online at www.byronbazaar.com, where you can also subscribe for your free copy, delivered to your e-mailbox every Thursday morning. We will be back to printing and distributing the “old fashioned way” as soon as we can. Hang on. Hang in. Keep reading. Stay chilled. Tony and all the team Byron Bazaar

This week's recommendation

ALBUM TITLE: Juveniles ARTIST: Kingswood RELEASED: March 2020 GENRE: Rock BIO: Melbourne's 4-piece Kingswood has been rocking

Australia for 8 years or so. All 4 contribute to the vocals with Fergus Linacre leading the line.

WHAT TO EXPECT: A classic rock sound of swirling guitars and hooks, harmonious vocals and tight rhythms. WHAT WE LIKE: Do you want new rock music and to have a good time? Yes, this is for you as Kingswood delivers a dozen feel-good songs that vary enough to keep you entertained without going down too many roads less travelled. The opening track You Make it So Easy kicks it off with a rousing gritty call to tap some part of your body and rock your head in time. Smoking went out of fashion with dial-up Internet but Kingswood "still miss smoking cigarettes in bed" as heard on Cigarettes in Bed. On the final third, a more melodic 80’s power ballad style appears on Marilyn, One More Dance & Candy Blue before the well placed outro Young, Charming & Funny. Juveniles will fit into your vintage collection of Led Zeppelin and Ramones inspired rock tee shirts, but you'll probably actually listen to Kingswood. And whilst it might not be a future vintage tee design it remains the freshest classic rock around. The Rolling Stones sang "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (But I Like It)" and that’s exactly how I feel about Juveniles.

STANDOUT TRACKS: Say You Remember, Snake Pit, Marilyn. PERFECT FOR: Rockin' the pub. Turning it up loud. LISTEN IN IF YOU LIKE: Gang of Youths, Sticky Fingers, Queen, Wolfmother.

This week's mantra

LET YOUR SOUL SHINE THROUGH. This is a poem, an invocation, an offering, a reminder to, even as doors close all around you, to open your heart wide. To show up and serve. To be courageous and responsible. To pledge your allegiance to positivity and proactivity, not to feeding the forces of fear and selfishness. Let your soul shine through, show us the best of you. We need it now more than ever.

SURFBOOKS - LETS GET ORGANISED

Passionate Bookkeepers who want to see your business succeed. Operational support, automation, efficiency. Contact Lauren today on 0407 965 225

Today let the light of my soul burn through the shadows of my mind. Today let my soul shine through. Rebel my heart against the insidiousness of fear. Instead, let me pledge my loyalty to love. Make me magnetic. Make my words sweet and eloquent. Let me be a source of inspiration. A vibration of resonance, truth and positivity. Draw the best things from me and to me. Effortlessly. Simply by being my truest self, let me draw out the best in others. To help their soul shine through, too. Let me create a reality that matches the magnitude and radiance of my soul and not the smallness of my mind.

Tarotscopes WEEKLY TAROT FORECAST

ON THURSDAY THE SUN IN ARIES UNITES

with Chiron, the archetype of the wounded healer. Here is a great opportunity to soothe or heal any wound about feeling disadvantaged or not good enough. Lady Venus has big plans this weekend while she trines the fusion of Jupiter and Pluto. As much as this may be a social and pleasurable time, it can also get very intense! This transit also harbours great insights into the quality of your relationships and there is a great potential for spiritual growth, transformation and transcendence. It affects the earth signs Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn most, all of which usually resist and resent change. This whole year is under the influence of the powerful Jupiter/Pluto conjunction, but right now we are edging very close to their first exact union (5th of April). Jupiter stands for insight, goodwill and expansion, whereas Pluto represents power, the underworld, money and sexuality. The pair unites in Capricorn, the most ambitious sign in the zodiac! This is big; huge changes, revelations, obsessions or fanatical fundamentalism may be occurring on a global scale. On Tuesday Mars moves into innovative and future-oriented Aquarius and instantly unites with Saturn. This is the perfect time for brainstorming new ideas, especially concerning business, social media and networking. The way we connect and interact often defines personal and professional success or failure. Therefore it pays to be aware of personal subtleties which are broadcasted while communicating. For the bigger picture read your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. A Tarot card is drawn for each astrological sign.

The Temperance Tarot card highlights the need for leaving all either/or decisions behind and concentrating on finely crafted, balanced blending of seeming polarities. As you unify oppositions within yourself, e.g. the need for security and freedom, you find new ways of integrating your visions and dreams.

When the Tower card appears all your efforts to stay well organised and secure are in vain. Sudden upheaval and strange things that are beyond your control may disrupt your best laid-out plans and the sooner you accept the wake-up call, the more effective you are in remediating the fallout.

d CAPRICORN

i GEMINI

a LIBRA

The Sun Tarot card shines a favourable light onto all your actions and endeavours. You are naturally full of beans, but this week you also inspire others to align with your expansive point of view. This is the time for innovative, new beginnings that promise great productive results.

The 2 of Disks symbolises change, and to be able to flow with that you need great flexibility. You might have to juggle more things than you feel comfortable with, but resentment does not help. Find a way to say ‘yes’ to what is right in front of you and enjoy the ride.

The Prince of Disks asks you to avoid impulsive action. He prefers to move slowly and steadily and to rely on tried and true methods to achieve modest, but secure outcomes. With him by your side you may learn to be more patient, thorough and steady. It may seem a bit boring, but by painstakingly taking care of details you avoid trouble later…

With the 5 of Disks drawn you may feel more insecure and worried than usual. When your equilibrium is disrupted you feel it very acutely. No matter what your concerns are, may it be relationships, health or finance, reach out, connect with friends or advisers; don’t get bogged down in soul-destroying ‘what-if’ scenarios.

j CANCER

The Prince of Wands is an open book, he shares his motivations, intentions and desires freely. With him by your side you reveal your feelings easily and won’t hold back your opinions. Never mind what reactions others have; at least they know where you stand!

The 10 of Cups represents heart-fulfilment and for you this usually means being close to your nearest and dearest. This week holds wonderful opportunities for a family gathering, entertaining friends and sharing the delight of togetherness. The love you generate in a gathering ripples out into the wider community in many surprising ways.

b SCORPIO

The 9 of Cups is often called the ‘wish card’. Imagine that the universe has aligned itself to fulfil your biggest dream or longing. With that feeling of expansion and anticipation in your heart you amp up your magnetic attraction, plus you feel more satisfaction and pleasure than before!

The Ace of Cups emphasises matters of the heart. Planning your next move and fulfilling your ambitions will only bring you real gratifications if you are in touch with your true innermost longings. Otherwise victories and success are hollow and you might be wondering why you feel so empty.

e AQUARIUS

The 4 of Wands indicates a big week of endings and new beginnings. In your excitement about what is coming, you easily forget to acknowledge and celebrate the well-deserved rewards of completing things you set in motion a while ago. Don’t rush through the experience, take some time to reflect and give thanks.

f PISCES

The Prince of Cups is very aware of his deep internal life and he appreciates his sensitivity to the environment and people close to him. With him by your side you are getting in touch with you own needs, not only those of others. This way you make sure you don’t lose yourself while relating.

UR BEACH BA

O BOOKS FOR Y

This week's review

TITLE: How to Change the World AUTHOR: John-Paul Flintoff NUMBER OF PAGES: 134 READING TIME: 4 hours 12 minutes PRICE: $11.99 WHAT IT'S ABOUT: If you had the chance, would you

change the world? If your answer to that is NO, then this is a quick read – finish now! If on the other hand there are some changes you would make, then this little book has some ideas on how and where to start. Of course, there cannot be one course of action, and this can make the book seem confused at times. The Gandhi type solutions would say begin with yourself - “Be the change you want to see in the world”. At the same time, we are also told to put other people’s happiness first. “We may be alone in the realms of our private thoughts, perceptions and feelings, but the world we want to change consists of other people”. Holding both thoughts at once can be tricky.

WHO IT'S FOR: Everyone. You couldn’t stick with the

status quo now, no matter how much you might want to. And we are all going to be spending much more time at home, internet browsing on a faltering NBN. Old fashioned entertainment may come back in vogue!

WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT: Sometimes we back away

from change because we think it’s too big, too hard, or too difficult. And yet, the greatest changes in the history of the world will rarely, if ever, be one event - as the history books make it sound. They will be made up of hundreds, maybe thousands, of small steps. Every pandemic starts with one person – every solution the same.

NOTABLE QUOTES: “Each of us is the swing voter in a

bitter election battle now being waged between our best and our worst possibilities.” “The key thing is not to make despair convincing, but to make hope possible.” Review written by Tony Winwood

If I'm always attracting the mirror image of myself in others, what is the point of partnership or lovers? Isn't it dangerous to be looking for what we perceive as missing in ourselves in another? Aren't we all just looking for our mum or dad, and what they never gave us? I mean why relate at all? - Twin Blame

DEAR TWIN BLAME,

The path of partnership is not for everyone. I myself know how incredibly perfect I am when single, yet majorly smacked down when faced with said mirrors. Lets be clear. Oh, he hits me I must be an abuser, is not the mirror we talkin' about. This guy believes I am worthless enough to speak so badly to me, then I must believe the same about myself, could be a truth. As is, OMG this fella is soooo damn fine, then I too must be a honey. Not sure if there is any point apart from occasional pleasure and occasional pain depending on which way the light hits the glass.

DEAR KEENWA,

Dogfishing. Those that use photos of their pets on online dating apps to attract suitors. I've always wanted a red dog. I recently matched with a dog mum, and imagined driving off into the sunset for a family outback Australian road trip, and bush coffee. Instead I got an inner city woman who would not let us eat on the couch. It was an unfair and misleading experience. - Doggy Style

DEAR DOGGY STYLE,

Byron Bazaar supports local businesses, creatives and communities. We are providing an opportunity for new and emerging businesses and talented individuals to advertise their product or service for FREE Send in your advertisement titled "Watch This Space" to hello@byronbazaar.com

As a germaphobe, I myself put the online dog kissing candidates on the red flag list. Along with the token gym pic, the surfing sequence - I accept singular shots but anything more than that I know I am dealing with someone who wants to wake me up for the early or worse sit on the beach and hold his camera, or worse still thinks bedroom talk is, “and did you see that one?!”

G.Nome GARDENER

FIRSTLY, WHAT DOES THE G STAND FOR? Gordon actually, but most people pronounce it Garden, due to my profession. TELL US WHERE YOU’RE FROM AND HOW YOU ENDED UP IN BYRON. My family were originally from Ireland. My great grandad was a leprechaun, and he stowed away on one of the immigration boats coming to Australia in the 1950’s. He met an Irish river-dancer who was touring Australia and they ran away together to Queensland and became sugar cane farmers. But the family eventually emigrated to Byron to escape the cane toads. Just too dangerous for us. YOU KEPT YOUR LOVE OF THE LAND AND BECAME A GARDENER; AND A STILL LIFE EXPONENT – WHAT DO YOU PREFER? It’s hard to choose - I like to combine the two whenever I can.

LOOKING FOR STAFF? WE CAN HELP!

IT MUST BE HARD TO DO MUCH GARDENING WHEN YOU’RE IN A STILL-LIFE POSE? Exactly!

IF YOU DON'T FIND A STAFF MEMBER WITHIN 2 WEEKS, WE WILL RUN THIRD WEEK FREE OF CHARGE

COMPLETE THIS SENTENCE – “I LOVE …. pubs with high stools at the bar. I like to wink at the barmaids when they serve me a pint.”

To book call 0487 003 765 or email hello@byronbazaar.com

BOOKING DEADLINE - MIDNIGHT MONDAY - PUBLISHED THURSDAY

IF YOU WENT TO A FANCY-DRESS PARTY, WHO WOULD YOU GO AS, AND WHY? I would go as Usain Bolt. I’ve always wanted to be an athlete, but I just can’t get into the training routine – but I do have a pair of gold boots.

Tricky Trivia Answers - Questions on page 13 1. A, EUROPE. 2. C, BICARB, VINEGAR. 3. FALSE, KURT RUSSELL.

BYRON IS RENOWNED FOR ITS WILD TURKEYS - HAVE YOU EVER HAD A RUN IN WITH A BRUSH TURKEY? Well, as I said, we left Queensland to get away from the cane toads – they were a real nuisance. Did you know that toads love to pee on garden gnomes? Anyway, we get to Byron, and now it’s the brush turkeys. They are ok most of the year, but come spring-time the horny lads start building these ginormous nests, right at the bottom of the garden where we like to hang out. We have lost a few cousins underneath those nests – and they always come out hot and smelling of compost!
