o importa a dónde decidió viajar, lo importante es que pueda descubrir los pequeños secretos de los lugares que visite, para sacarle el jugo a su estadía.

Una nueva forma de hacer turismo hoy es la de llegar a una ciudad, un pueblo ó una villa alejada de las grandes ciudades y simplemente vivir unos días las rutinas de sus pobladores, caminando las calles, hablando con la gente, sentándose a tomar un café y buscando los lugares no tradicionales para comer y hasta para alojarse.

Usted me dirá que la inseguridad que se campea por las ciudades es el principal impedimento para gozar de esta modalidad, pero no es así. La mayoría de las ciudades tienen espacios y horarios seguros para caminar y disfrutar de la cotidianeidad que las caracteriza. Lo que se debe hacer es hablar con la gente de la aerolínea, la agencia de viajes, el conserje ó administrador del hotel en que nos quedamos, los taxistas e inclusive leer algunos blogs de viaje, para conocer estos pequeños secretos. Cada ciudad tiene sus espacios seguros, allí donde se reúnen las familias o la gente sale a caminar, correr o pasear al perro. Lo importante es hacer el esfuerzo de encontrarlos.

Ahora bien, por otro lado, están aquellos lugares que aparecen en los sitios de internet y que parecen ofrecer una gran aventura como Cancún o la maravillosa Amazonía -que describimos en esta edición de Mi Tierra- pero las ofertas son casi siempre convencionales y llevan a los lugares turísticos tradicionales. Qué tal si nos tomamos un tiempo en estudiar un poco las grandes posibilidades y los pequeños secretos de estos increíbles destinos y hacemos un viaje que puede cambiar nuestra forma de ver el mundo.

Se imaginan tomar un avión en Londres, cruzar el mar hasta Miami y de ahí viajar seis horas y media hasta Santa Cruz de la Sierra, descansar y tomarse un avión a Cobija, la capital del fronterizo departamento de Pando, desde donde se puede iniciar aventuras inimaginables en la espesa selva amazónica, deslizándose por los caudalosos ríos navegables y penetrando las sendas gomeras o los altísimos castañales. Los pequeños secretos de este mundo amazónico son increíbles y descubrirlos aún más.

Titanic Un encuentro romántico y prohibido, y un suceso trágico que se imprimió en la historia, son los dos pilares narrativos en los que se basa el éxito de este filme que hoy encabeza la lista de las películas más taquilleras de los tiempos.

A forbidden love affair and a tragic event that went down in history are the two main pillars of this story which made this movie the greatest box office hit of all times.

Titanic is characterized by bringing together on the same stage fictional main characters, Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio (Jack Dawson), which are the protagonists of the Kate Winslet (Rose DeWitt Bukater), Billy love story, with secondary characters Zane (Caledon Hockley), Hill Paxton based on real people (like the crew (Brock Lovett), Gloria Stuart (Rose). and some of the first and second class passengers), and also adds realism with shots of the real Titanic at the bottom of the Atlantic. Episodio mé), Jake Lloyd (Anakin Skywalker), I: La amenaza fantasma Ian McDiarmid (senador Palpatine). resulta la cuarta película presentada en las salas de cine, en 1999, pero la primera en términos cronológicos internos, que relata los antecedentes de los episodios IV, V y VI producidos 16 años antes. ou are walking down the street and suddenly you feel a tightening of the throat, which turns into a slight tickle; you clear your throat but that only intensifies the tickle. Immediately a pain starts shooting through your head and you can not help but think that it is coming. A few minutes later the slight headache has become intense, its dimensions have grown to exaggerated proportions, there is pressure over the eyes and nose area, and your throat is raw with every word you utter. Then you have no doubt that you have a cold.

El resfriado y su remedio Es una infección que afecta a las vías respiratorias provocada por alguno de los más de 200 virus distintos existentes alrededor nuestro. Lastimosamente, no existen medicamentos para combatirlos debido a esa gran variedad, y por eso sólo nos queda tomar medidas para atenuar sus síntomas (como no se trata de una dolencia causada por bacterias, el uso de antibióticos está limitado a casos concretos).

Más allá de las formas tradicionales de adquirir la infección (contagio por proximidad a una persona afectada, defensas bajas, etc.), una de las razones por las que cada vez somos más propensos a caer con un resfriado, es porque los climas artificiales de los edificios crean contrastes significativos de temperatura entre el interior y exterior de los mismos, lo que evita que el organismo se adapte de forma normal al nuevo clima y no pueda crear el escudo necesario ante las infecciones. Esto se ve amplificado en ambientes cerrados donde no existe la ventilación adecuada.

Ante esta situación, Sergio Medina, gerente general de Gramón Bolivia –representante y distribuidor de productos farmacéuticos-, sugiere que lo mejor o lo más recomendable es la prevención.

“Existen vacunas contra los virus del resfrío por las que todos deberíamos optar, si bien no son infalibles ante todos los tipos, la protección que brindan es adecuada”, comenta.

The common cold and how to treat it It is an infection that enters via the respiratory system caused by one of the over 200 viruses that are all around us.

Unfortunately, there is no known cure or treatment due to the large variety of viruses, so that all we can do is take medication to alleviate the symptoms(since it is a viral infection, antibiotics do no good what so ever, except in very special cases).

Beyond the traditional means of acquiring the infection (contact with an infected person, weakened defenses, etc.) one of the reasons that we have greater predisposition to get sick is the artificial climates created in office buildings which create drastic temperature changes between the inside and outside temperatures, which prevents our bodies from adapting in a normal fashion to the changes in climate and raise its defense shields to ward off infections. This is even greater in closed areas where there is not proper ventilation.

Sergio Medina, General Manger of Gramon Bolivia, a pharmaceutical representative and distributor, suggests that the best defense is preventing a cold.

“There are several vaccinations against the common cold virus which we should all take advantage of because of the protection they offer us are adequate”, he comments.

He immediately gives advise on how to overcome the symptoms of a cold: “The most common remedies, those called Day and Night and those that come in the form of a hot tea, are very good and are accepted by our bodies without complications” he points out, warning that you should never self medicate, because in some cases self prescribed medications can prolong the normal course of the affliction (which must run its course), causing side effects.

Winter is the time of year we are most exposed to colds, but the cold viruses are with us year around, for that reason eating a healthy diet rich in vitamins can help maintain our defences healthy against any attack. Take care!

l turismo aventura y el eco-turismo tienen un gran escenario de acción en la Amazonía, que ocupa un gran porcentaje de territorio boliviano y de sus vecinos, especialmente Brasil dónde se extiende casi por la mayor parte de la región norte, albergando miles de especies de plantas y animales, constituyéndose en el más importante pulmón del planeta, responsable de procesar más del 70% del dióxido de carbono producido principalmente por acción del hombre.

Considerada la cuenca fluvial más grande del mundo, la región amazónica es un gigantesco ecosistema de selvas tropicales que se extiende sobre un área de siete millones de kilómetros cuadrados y es considerada una de las más valiosas para el futuro de la vida en el planeta.

dventure tourism and eco-tourism have a great opportunity in the Amazon region, which covers a large percentage of Bolivia’s territory and that of its neighbors, especially Brazil where it covers most of the northern part of the country, with thousands of species of plants and animals, an acting as the most important green area processing 70% of the carbon dioxide produced mostly by man.

Estudios que podrían considerarse serios, publicados en la revista científica británica “Nature” prevén un proceso de deforestación y degradación del medio ambiente amazónico por causa de la acción humana y que amenaza con destruir totalmente el 40% del territorio natural amazónico, haciéndolo desaparecer antes del año 2050.

La investigación realizada por el científico brasileño Britaldo Silveira Soares-Filho, de la Universidad de Minas Gerais (Belo Horizonte), asegura que la Amazonía ha sufrido ya la destrucción de importantes hábitats naturales debido principalmente a la deforestación, el principal enemigo de la “floresta” amazónica.

Si no cambia el actual uso humano de la selva y se refuerza su protección, el experto de la Universidad Minas Gerais calcula que el tamaño de la Amazonía se reducirá de 5,3 a 3,2 millones de

Es bien sabido que la cuenca del Amazonas, con sus cientos de afluentes en los países andinos y los que forman parte del Amazonas, regula el clima de casi toda América del Sur y sus árboles son los grandes procesadores de dióxido de carbono y suministradores de oxígeno. Su destrucción puede ocasionar un deterioro ambiental que afectará la calidad de vida de las especies y pondrá en peligro la existencia misma del ser humano.

According to the WWF the statistics for deforestation in the Amazon Basin vary from country to country, due to the land management of each region. In Brazil, for example, deforestation is mainly caused by the clearing of land for cattle ranching, while in other countries the main cause of deforestation is clearing land for agricultural purposes.

La región amazónica es un lugar ideal para el eco turismo, por ello se están desarrollando proyectos financiados por importantes entidades internacionales, principalmente en Brasil dónde todos los estados que forman parte de la cuenca han iniciado proyectos y sus autoridades han aplicado leyes que permitan el turismo sostenible, el cuidado del ambiente de una manera racional y sobre todo, el desarrollar planes para crear las condiciones de un turismo receptivo, educando a los visitantes en la preservación y conservación de los ecosistemas y la forma de vida natural del área.

Si bien el ecoturismo es uno de los segmentos de crecimiento más rápido dentro de la industria del turismo, está poco desarrollado en América Latina. En el Amazonas brasileño, así como en la zona que toca a Bolivia, el ecoturismo se realiza de una manera improvisada y se limita a alojamientos en la selva y algunos cruceros fluviales, además de safaris fotográficos y mayormente pesca deportiva, siendo esta última actividad aún precaria y en condiciones que afectan zonas sensibles. En Brasil, tanto en la ciudad de Manaos como en sus alrededores y en el norte del estado de Mato Grosso, los turistas, de los cuales pocos son extranjeros, sólo permanecen un promedio de 3,3 días. En el norte amazónico boliviano, sin embargo, las iniciativas de atracción de turismo son pocas y la infraestructura hotelera es básica, pero la recepción de turistas se incrementa. Aún faltan planes oficiales e iniciativas privadas que permitan crear las condiciones apropiadas para el desarrollo de un verdadero eco turismo sostenible.

The Amazon region is ideal for eco tourism, and for that reason projects are being developed, financed by important international organizations, mainly in Brazil, where all the states that are part of the Amazon Basin have started projects and laws have been passed to encourage sustainable tourism, promote responsible management of the environment and above all things, to develop the conditions to create sustainable eco-tourism by educating visitors in wild life preservation and conservation of the ecosystem and in the native wildlife of the region.

Even though eco-tourism is the fastest growing segment in the tourism industry today, it is still underdeveloped in Latin America. In the Brazilian Amazon, as well as in the areas of Bolivia, eco-tourism is done in an informal fashion and is limited to jungle lodgings and a few river cruises, as well as photographic safaris and sports fishing expeditions, this last activity being debatable because it can damage the environment. In Brazil, the cities of Manaus and its surrounding area as well as the northern part of the State of Matto Grosso, tourists of whom few are foreign, stay an average of 3.3 days. In the Bolivian Amazon area in the north of the country, however, the attractions for tourism are few and the hotel infrastructure is very basic, but nevertheless more tourists are arriving. Official plans are still needed and private initiatives that allow the growth of this sector for true sustainable eco tourism to develop.

No es el único, pues el término es relativamente nuevo y no todos estamos familiarizados con su concepto, a pesar de que actúa con las bondades de la Madre Naturaleza, con la que, en Bolivia, tenemos una relación muy estrecha.

Pero la palestra misteriosa de este campo está a punto de llegar a su fin, pues una campaña de promoción será encarada en breve por la Fundación Amigos de la Naturaleza (FAN) para potenciar esta actividad y sus productos.

Lets take it slowly, first lets find out what bio trade is and who is involved in it. The manager of the Programa Nacional de Biocomercio Sostenible (National Program for Sustainable Bio Trade),an official project of the Bolivian government which has been placed in the hands of FAN for its technical implementation, Richard Vaca, gives us this definition: “it is the sustainable management of the biodiversity through production activities and commercialization of native products of a country, be this from the fauna or flora”.

These are the two basic characteristics which are essential for production to be considered bio trade: one, the product must be made with a native species to the country, and two, its production must take place under sustainable environmentally, socially, and economic conditions.

FAN acts as a facilitator in this process, and offers technical support and/or financial support for the production chain to operate correctly. To this purpose, the company is initiating a promotional campaign for bio trade in Bolivia with the goal of helping the initiatives that already exist in the market grow and consolidate their sales and creating opportunities for new ventures.

Pero vamos con calma. Antes de imbuirnos en la campaña, primero dejemos claro qué es el biocomercio y quiénes los involucrados. El gerente del Programa Nacional de Biocomercio Sostenible -proyecto del gobierno de Bolivia que ha sido delegado a la FAN para que lo ejecute técnicamente-, Richard Vaca, nos responde: “Es el aprovechamiento sostenible de la biodiversidad a través de actividades de producción y comercialización de productos nativos de un país, sean éstos provenientes de la fauna o la flora”.

Así, dos son sus características fundamentales y sin las cuales una producción no puede considerarse biocomercio: una, que se trate de una fabricación realizada con materia nativa de un país, y dos, que se desarrolle bajo criterios de sostenibilidad ambiental, social y económica.

La FAN cumple el rol de facilitador en todo este proceso, y en ese sentido otorga apoyo técnico y/o financiero para que la cadena de producción funcione correctamente. En ese marco, la campaña de promoción del biocomercio se iniciará en Bolivia con el objetivo de ayudar a que las iniciativas que ya existen en el mercado se vean potenciadas y puedan consolidar sus ventas, y que iniciativas nuevas vayan surgiendo progresivamente.

En breve, el biocomercio estará en nuestros hogares. Se trata de un programa de carácter progresivo y de largo aliento que se apoya en tres líneas de acción.

La primera, básicamente de naturaleza mediática y participativa, incluirá la exposición de material gráfico y la intervención de los productores en diversas ferias relacionadas, además de que este mes se desarrollará la Primera Feria Internacional del Biocomercio de Bolivia.

Por otro lado, un sello de biocomercio será el distintivo visual de este tipo de productos en los supermercados y todos los puntos de venta (independientemente de la empresa y la marca), de modo que su reconocimiento sea instantáneo.

Finalmente, una estrategia certera, sin duda, será la que involucra a los puntos de consumo, es decir que cafés y restaurantes de la ciudad incluirán en sus menús sabrosas recetas con productos de biocomercio como su ingrediente principal. The promotional campaign organized by the Friends of Nature (FAN) is ready to be launched and has as its purpose to familiarize everyone with the concept of bio-commerce, and above all, to incentivate consumption of these products. During the summer like days, the average temperature of Cancun is around 27°C (80°F), the perfect temperature for enjoying the aquatic attractions which are the main reason most tourists come.

The beaches, in particular Playa del Carmen, where thousands of bathers relax in the sun especially from November to mid December, which is the best time to visit the peninsula, although May is low season when prices drop and air fares are reduced, temperatures can reach up to 38°C (100°F).

The high season is between December and April, when most tourists come and when prices are at their peak, especially between Christmas and New Year. The New Year’s Eve celebrations on the beaches and nightclubs tend to be memorable and for that reason tourists book their hotels on the beach and make reservations at nightclubs far in advance.

El programa de refacción que se siguió se basó primeramente en el retiro de la Jardinera Sur y la habilitación de un área que tras varios meses de arduo trabajo se convirtió en una extensión del Hall Central, creando con ello una continuidad directa entre éste y la sala de llegadas internacionales.

El proyecto contempló la incorpora-

ción de tragaluces para mantener el ingreso de luz natural que antes se lograba con la jardinera. Además del uso de materiales contemporáneos e innovadores para crear un ambiente que ofrezca comodidad al usuario. El área está acondicionada por un moderno sistema de aire con renovación permanente, creando una zona agradable que se inserta en el nuevo concepto ambiental del aeropuerto.

Entre los alcances que se logró con esta obra, se puede observar el incremento del área comercial con oferta gastronómica, con una nueva cafetería que tiene la capacidad para atender aproximadamente a 80 personas.

The expansion project followed had as a first step the removal of the southern garden area and the utilization of the space, after several long months of work, as part of the main lobby, creating a continuous flow between the main lobby and the International Arrival Area.

The project added skylights to maintain the illumination levels the same as before. It incorporated the use of contemporary and innovative materials to create a comfortable area for the users. The area is cooled by a modern system that renovates the air constantly, creating an agreeable environment that fits into the new concept of the airport.

Among the achievements of the expansion, you can see the increase in commercial space which offers a greater variety of food options, with a new cafeteria that has seating for 80 persons.

La industria de aviación se ahorrará $3 billones anuales al omitir la emisión de billetes en papel, según la IATA. Los boletos de avión en papel serán objetos de colección a partir del 1° de junio próximo, cuando las aerolíneas afiliadas a la Asociación Internacional de Transporte Aéreo (IATA) comiencen a emitir el 100% de sus boletos de forma electrónica.

Según datos de IATA, se emiten 400 millones de boletos al año, y esta medida permitirá ahorrar a la industria de la aviación $3 billones anuales.

El costo de producir un boleto electrónico es de $1, mientras que un boleto en papel llevaba gastos de hasta $10, indican.

The aviation industry saves around $3 billion annually by not issuing paper tickets, according to IATA. Paper tickets will be a collector’s item as of June 1st, when all airlines affiliated with the International Association of Air Transport (IATA) Hill go to 100% electronic tickets.

According to information from IATA, 400 million tickets are issued every year, and this step will allow the aviation industry to save $3 billion annually. The cost of producing an electronic ticket is about $1, while the cost of a paper ticket is around $10 each.

Travel agencies see multiple advantages to the electronic format. “The traveller does not have to worry anymore about losing their tickets, because they can recover them through an access code” points out Luis Portillo, Sales Manager of one of the travel agencies in Central America.

The fact that technology permits travellers to purchase a ticket via Internet, without having to go to a travel agency, does not do away with the function of the travel agent.

“People are hesitant to purchase on Internet because they consider it risky using their credit card on line, and they seek us out” he adds.
