PREFACE
Fujairah is one of the seven Emirates that constitute the U.A.E. United Arab Emirates, a mostly mountainous territory of about 1,300 sq Km. The resident population has about 130.000 inhabitants. It’s the only Emirate that doesn’t overlook the Arabian Gulf but only the Oman Gulf, on the Indian Ocean side. The climate is warm, but less than the other Emirates. This is due to the presence of the Hajjar mountain range and to the Eastern winds coming from the Ocean, which also bring higher rainfall. The coolest months are the rainiest and go from November to March. In Fujairah is located the most ancient of the UAE mosques, founded in 1446. One of the most important and interesting monuments is a fortress dated 1670 which has been the governor residence.

INTRODUCTION
Since a number of years the Emirate of Fujairah is experiencing a great development thanks to the new port and highway, which made quicker and simpler connections with Dubai, and to the climate. This is less hot and more ventilated with respect to the others Emirates of the Gulf. Besides commercial and business development, the more temperate climate will certainly encourage tourism development, which in fact is already establishing and consolidating. For this reason it’s extremely interesting to invest in this field, one of the richest and in growth in world’s economy. Tourism request is becoming more demanding and unfaithful to traditional destinations. Among the new ones, the more successful will be the ones that will put together an offer of varied experiences, some of which excellent in their field. In organized entertainment industry parks are becoming the most important international tourism attractors. The entertainment parks existent today in the world can be classified in various categories: Theme parks, Mechanical parks, Water parks, Naturalistic parks, Educational parks, Adventure parks, miniature parks etc. Among these, the more interesting for international tourism attractiveness and therefore for investments are Theme and Mechanical parks, Water parks and Educational parks, with particular reference to scientific an naturalistic aspects. Theme parks are characterized by the strong presence of a scenic background, in which context are placed different attractions. These
4
are generally designed around a basis theme inspired by history, science fiction, comics etc. Founder of entertainment parks is Disneyland but now parks like that are spread all over the planet. In mechanical parks rides are more adrenalinic (Roller coasters or similar) and the scene plant has less importance. Often parks combine this two types, generating so-called mixed parks. Water parks consist of many pools with different dimensions and shapes, slides and other water games and sports. They also are classified as Theme or Mechanical parks. In temperate climates the use of water parks is seasonal, limited to summer months. It is possible to hypothesize that in Fujairah’s climate the use of the Water park can be almost all year round. Another kind of park in vogue is the Educational park, concerning both science and technology field than environment field (wildlife, botanical and marine). If attractions offered by the park are wide and varied and are accompanied by complementary services and activities, visitors will have to stay at least for one overnight on-site. This evidently benefits local touristic economy. Special attention must be paid on school tourism which represents a high percentage of entertainment parks demand. This users cover the tourist low season and for this reason it is considerably important to dedicate a section to nature, where the entertainment aspect is flanked by educational values.

LOCALIZATION and PROGRAM
LOCALIZATION AND ACCESSIBILITY The Entertainment Park is located West of Fujairah City, at the foot of the hills in an area predisposed in the past for the realization of a park. It consists of a perfect rectangle of 1,000 x 500 meters. The surface is smooth and flat. The connection whit the town of Fujairah is currently guaranteed by a road coming from the sulfuric baths, where it starts to curve and reaches the middle point of the south long side of the rectangle. The existent road has a width of about 10 meters and a curved track. Taking into account the considerable afflux of people expected for the park, the road should be enhanced so as to have characteristic similar to the town’s roads (2 lanes with central and side docks). Characteristics of the connection road should however be established by competent Public Authority.
First phase The project covers an area of approximately 500,000 sqm. The Park functional program plans to divide the area in six parts with separated entrances and independent functionality, in addition to visitor’s parking lot and to the general service area: - Theme and Mechanical Park; - Water Park - Mini Golf course; - Go-Kart track - Aquarium - Botanic garden with a butterfly pavilion and educational museum dedicated in particular to scholarships. Second phase The project will see the construction of a 5-star hotel of 300 rooms and a Resort of 50-100 villas, as well of the extension of the visitor’s PROGRAM parking lot. This operation is planned to extend the area of about The program plans an entertainment park for the region of Fujairah. 250.000 sqm at the foot of the North-West hills, outside the first The program will develop in two phases: the first is the entertainment phase perimeter. The first phase outer roads running along the East park, the second will develop the hospitality services. and North-East sides, will be prolonged to the new area.

LANDSCAPE PROJECT
As said before the first phase area consists of a 1,000 x 500 meters rectangle, divided in four 250 x 250 meters squares disposed in the mille and of two 250 x 500 meters rectangles at the sides. The perimeter of the area and of the interior quadrilaterals is defined by a double row of trees flanking both sides of road tracks. The perfect geometric layout that characterizes the area and the presence of consistent tree rows have been determinant for the landscape project and the park layout, becoming its structure. However, since the park represents dream and fantasy world, the lines that have been added have a much more informal trend that mitigates the geometry rigor, putting at the same time in light the structure. At the center of the complex are two squares connected to each other. In the first come together from North and from South the walkways coming from visitors parking lots. On the east side is the entrance of the flower botanical garden with a classical plant design and a glass Butterfly Dome. On the opposite side starts a 250 meters long boulevard that includes the existent tree rows. It is flanked for almost all its length by two two-storey buildings denominated “Propylaea”. On the ground floor of the buildings are continuous arcades that protect from the sun and qualify the environment as “urban”. The boulevard reaches the second round square located exactly at the center of the area, which leads to the different sectors of the entertainment park. The façade design of the two contemporary buildings incorporates the geometric motifs of wall decorations and wooden grids of traditional Middle East architecture, expanding it until it transfigures. An ingredient of classical language is used in a contemporary way. Crossing the square and going in the same direction one enters the theme mechanical park. The boulevard, still flanked by a double row of trees, concludes in another circular square. At the center of
8
the square is situated a circular 80 meters high tower, that supports a circular rotating platform. The platform overviews the Park letting the view stretch to Fujairah City and further, to the sea. The visual axis has its background in the view of a fantastic castle. On the side of the boulevard is the lake that develops for 250 meters with an average width of 50 meters. In this area of the park landscape will be the fantasy world one. Visitors will be transported in to a parallel world, outside everyday reality. This will be possible because of the scenes that will have to be very accurate so that the dream becomes reality. Scenes will concern both architecture and rides decorations, as well as urban furniture components. Principal motifs should be “Arabian Nights” tales (Sherazade, Aladdin, Sinbad…) and pirates. At the geometric layout that defines the area, in strong contrast with the geographical context, is suggestive to associate the fairytale image of a magic carpet, one of the themes of the park. The magic carpet could also become the logo and name of the park. Summarizing, the principal elements that define the park’s landscape are: - the geometric layout with tree rows; - the classical design of the botanical garden; - the lake with water games and fountains and an outdoor theatre that overlooks on it; - the central boulevard, flanked by the “Propylaea” with facades referring to a traditional motif; - the tower with rotating platform, visible from a big distance; - Aladdin’s castle, that concludes the sequence of the main axis; - buildings and rides themes. As for the integration of the complex in the environment, it’s important to underline that the double row of trees that goes all along the area is a useful and positive mediation element with the surrounding landscape.

PARK DESCRIPTION
THE LAY-OUT Different functions of the park have been organized as possible in order to accommodate the existing modules ad in any case in such a way as not to alter the geometry. In the East 500 x 250 meters rectangle, closest to the town, are located visitor’s parking lots and the botanical garden. This choice has been determined mostly because of its location near the road that connects to the city. The bus parking lot has a capacity of about 200 places and is located in the northern part with a dedicate access. The car parking lot, which has a capacity of 4,000 places, is located in the southern part, closest to the connection road. It is organized on three levels in two separate buildings for safety reasons. The lower level is in the basement and the third level is on the roof terrace. The size of parking lots correspond to standards commonly adopted for similar parks. The botanical garden is located between the two parking lots so that its entrance faces the entrance square. It has an area of about 42,000 sq m and includes a butterfly glasshouse and a row of buildings for the educational museum, visitor’s reception and staff rooms. The buildings are located at the upper side in order to create a separating scene with respect to the bus area. The entertainment park is organized in four sectors with different entrances and autonomous functioning, in addition to the Aquarium and to the general service area. The west 500 x 500 meters half is dedicated to the entertainment park (Theme and Mechanical Park) and to the Mini Golf Course. The two middle squares are dedicated to the Water Park (square south) and to the Go Kart and service area (square north). A large 25 meters wide boulevard crosses the area in a
10
central position and connects the parking lot to all the park activities. Some squares alternate along the track, each characterized by form and function. The first arrival square is covered by a circular plate suspended on the head of the buildings, supported by slim steel reflecting columns, inclined in various directions so as to give a sense of instability. The lower surface will be in reflecting metal so as to reflect overhead the floor and the flow of people. The second square in the middle of the boulevard is characterized by a retreat of the buildings facades and overhead from two covered bridges that connect different areas of the aquarium at the first floor. A fountain is in the center of the square. The third square is circular and has a diameter of 50 meters. It is the principal square situated at the center of the area, from which the various sections of the park get access. It will be characterized by the confluence of four double tree rows and from the different features of the portals that go to the different sectors of the park: the Mechanical and Theme Park, the Water Park, the Mini Golf Course, the Go-Kart Track. The forth square is characterized by water that surrounds it for more than half of its perimeter and is also present in the middle of it with a fountain. The fifth square is the last of the main central axis that concludes with an 80 meters high tower with a rotating platform designed like a flying saucer. The scenic effect will be particularly effective at night because of strong beams of light projected down from the platform that will make the steel structure of the tower disappear. The beams of light will let platform seem as if it were flying.

THEME AND MECHANICAL PARK
After walking through the entrance portal the space opens up to a green area crossed by three streets forming a trident facing the park. The central road that follows the preexisting tree row crosses the lake and the square with the Panoramic Tower and points to the end of the park where the Aladdin Castle is. The South road passes next to a row of buildings hosting a restaurant and videogames, borders the lake and heads to the rides for the brave (Giant roller coaster, Z-force, Discovery 30, TagadĂ ). Past the Giant roller coaster the road reaches a group of buildings that host a restaurant, a cafeteria, the Dark House and another indoor attraction. From here it proceeds in two directions: on the right reaches the outdoor theater able to receive about 300 spectators for evening shows or water games. Its circular structure faces the lake and the stage overhangs the water. The back half is wrapped by large metal petals that give it the appearance of a giant aquatic flower resting on the water. On the left one enters in the kids area, where rides and carousels for the smallest children are. This area concludes with the two-storey Fairytale building that hosts various indoor attractions, a restaurant and the food court. North the
16
road goes beyond the Mini Golf Course and the lake with the restaurant on the water, reaching one of the principal attractions of the park: the Spillwater coaster. The road continues crossing the outdoor attractions area dedicated both to families than to the brave ones (60 meters diameter panoramic Wheel, Unicoaster, Twist’n Splash, Giant slides, Vertical swing, Cinema 4D, Bumping car paddock etc). Towards north the road is delimitated by some building hosting restaurants, indoor attractions and rest rooms. Passed the building the road reaches the Rapids, an attraction consisting of boats sailing in pirates world. Finally it reaches the picnic area, a large wooded area equipped with tables for relaxing or having picnic meals. At the end of the walkways in the central part of the North West side is the Aladdin Castle surrounded by a small building village. Both the castle and the village will host a restaurant, a cafeteria, shops and rest rooms. The lake will be overlooked by the outdoor theatre and will have a series of fountains with a number of different height spouts of water that one or more times in the night will produce a show animated by lights and music.

THEME PARK MAIN BUILDINGS
In the area of the Theme park dedicated to families and children there are two groups buildings with strong architectural character inspired by traditional Middle East stories and in particular to the fantastic world of “The Thousand and One Nights”. A group of buildings are in sequence like if there were in the city and have arcades, domes, minarets etc. The architecture of these buildings derives from real ones but is transfigured with reductions or expansions of scale, forcings or deformations of the dimensions of some components. The colors are the ones of games and not the ones of architectural elements. Inside this two-storey complex hosts a restaurant for families, a cafeteria, rest rooms and a number of indoor games.
22
The series of buildings concludes with the Food Court, a space to consume food bought in small kiosks placed in nearby. It’s a space covered with a cloud-shape structure supported by slender steel columns. The second group of buildings represents instead an isolated castle on a rocky mountain. At the foot of the castle is a small village where the houses are built apparently of earth. The castle shape is very articulated and has towers, domes and chimneys inspired by the description of fairytale castles, as they can be imagined by children’s fantasy. These buildings host a restaurant, thematic gadgets shops inspired by the castle itself and by the park. Inside the mountain there is a Dark House.

PROPYLAEA
AQUARIUM About half of the buildings flanking the sides of the entrance boulevard are occupied by a large aquarium, mostly dedicated to tropical marine environment, referring in particular to the Indian Ocean one. It will occupy 2/3 of the building on the south of the main boulevard (the one that borders the Water Park) and the first floor of both the buildings with an area of about 6,000 sq m. On the ground floor is the hall and the big tank with at least 5,000,000 liters capacity tall as the building itself and visible from the first floor too. At the ground floor the tank could have a glass tunnel practicable to the public that will allow a virtual dive in the ocean. On the first floor of the two buildings will be four large rooms: one overlooking the large tank, the other three with a number of tanks of different dimensions specialized on different environments. The two sections are connected by two suspended corridors that cross like a bridge the square below. On both sides of the crossovers there will be cafeteria and a bookshop space that can also be used for educational exhibits. .
28
OTHERS ACTIVITIES IN THE PROPYLAEA In the buildings flanking the boulevard, as well as the Aquarium, there are several other functions: a series of indoor attractions (Ice Rink, 8 Bowling Alleys, Pool halls, videogames hall etc.), a cafeteria, a first aid room, video surveillance and assistance to the public, administration offices and rest rooms. On the ground floor in the two ending zones there will be facilities connected to the outdoor activities, in particular: - in the North building: a restaurant connected with the gokart track; - in the South building: rest rooms and locker rooms for the Water Park. There are also shops for gadgets related to the activities of the park in the arcades at the ground floor.

WATER PARK, GO-KART and BUTTERFLY GARDEN
BOTANICAL AND BUTTERFLY GARDEN In the middle of the South-West sector is the botanical garden in which will be valorized two aspects: scientific and esthetic. The double value will satisfy those who visit for the pleasure of learning new things, the ones that visit for aesthetic pleasure and the ones that visit for both. The garden occupies a total area of about 7,000 sq m. The principal area is occupied by a garden in which the classic and symmetric design combines with a secondary plot of paths and flower beds that allude to the presence of butterflies both wild than in the central glasshouse. In this area the scenic effect will be especially cared with assortment of blossoming in function of colors and seasonal sequences. To attract the butterflies in the garden some areas will be planted with species which blossoms are particularly loved by these insects. In particular this is planned in the two small hills in the East back part of the garden and in the flowerbeds at the center of the paths which cross the pond. At the center of this area is located a circular dome glass house in which will be set up a suitable habitat for the rarest butterflies species. This building will be constructed with glass windows that absorb sunlight. A part of the windows will be protected with adjustable shielding according to seasons and to the outside temperature. Air conditioning will be assisted by electromechanical systems. A part of the garden will be dedicated to scientific and educational aspects. In this area flowerbeds will be organized in a more regular GO-KART and systematic way, marked by rectilinear and curvilinear paths. The Go Kart has access from the central square on the right, next On the northern limit of the garden on the border of the bus parking to the Propylaea. WATER PARK From the central square on the left, walking through the sailing ship entrance portal, the main boulevard opens up to the water park. The water park occupies for hole one of the squares mentioned before, except from the area occupied by one of the two “Proylaea” buildings. In it are various types of pools and slides and a channel that stretches throughout the water park called “Lazy River”. In a portion of the ground floor of the building on the north side are the locker rooms and the rest rooms. The pools are: - a 5,000 sq m pool with waves up to a meter; - a tropical fish pool where bathers can swim and snorkel even among small sharks (Reef pool); - a swimming pool with a small island at the center; - a pool of shallow water for the children; - a relax area with loungers and parasols; - a cafeteria pavilion situated at the center of the relax area. The slides will follow a pirates theme and are: - Superslide: four-lane slide, 80-1000 meters long; - Loop water slides: three-lane slide with horizontal loops and curves. - Abyss: a slide that has a half-way kind of centrifugal that enters in to the final stretch; - Kamikaze: a high-speed straight slide with strong slope - Spillwater: a slide with two or three seat inflatable boats; - Lazy river: a tide channel to cross on inflatable rings or small boats.

GREEN AREAS and PUBLIC SERVICES
PATHS, GREEN AREAS AND URBAN FURNITURE Paths are designed with both landscape and functional criteria. The empathized perception of the park size from the entrance portals is studied. Paths are wide, to meet several requirements: - support huge visitors inflows; - take into account queues to attractions, -emergency vehicles passage. Efficacious and visible signals will be installed to guide the visitors, also helped by floors design and colour. Some paths, resting areas and waiting spaces for entering attractions will be shaded with curtains or grids. Like building’s architecture, also urban furniture refers also to tradition together to fantasy world, inspired at the same time by nature and cartoons. Wastebaskets will have playful shapes and colours. Street LED lights will be in form of giant leaves supported by giant stems. Calligraphy is another theme developed in flooring design and in some furniture elements (benches, flowerpots). Green areas consist of medium to large woodwd flower beds with landscaping and microclimate function. Same function will have the building’s vegetal roofing.
Restrooms Besides from the Aquarium, Water Park, Mini Golf and Go-Kart restrooms and from the staff ones, there are six groups of hygienic services each containing 6 restrooms for men, 6 for women and one for handicapped people situated in to the entertainment buildings or in small buildings in the park. Food services There are multiple dining options: 7 restaurants and 4-5 cafeterias in various areas of the Park. In addition to these, there are other food points inside the buildings and outdoors, in freestanding kiosks with architectural forms inspired by fantasy world. There also is a food court for quick meals equipped with tables. Near it are ready-meal kiosks. The roof is structured in form of clouds and supported by slender coloured steel columns. Assistance As support of people affected by any sickness the park is provided with a fist aid room connected with a on-call medical staff. Internet connection All the food service places are equipped with Internet wireless connection with a password provided by the operator.
PUBLIC SERVICES Parking lots There are two parking lots for the visitors with separate entries and exits: a car parking lot capable more than 4,000 places and a bus parking lot capable around 200 places. The car park is situated in the South sector, organized on three levels in two separated buildings for safety reasons. Taking into account the slope of the ground, the lower level is in the basement, and the third level is on the roof terrace. This way the aesthetic impact of these large buildings is minimized. At the entry there will be a yard with seven gates for picking up the parking tickets, so as to avoid formation of queues. The bus parking lot is at ground level. The entrance is from North through a yard that permits the access to the general service area too. The exit is on the road parallel to the East side of the lot.
GENERAL AND STAFF SERVICES Services and technological facilities are located in the North part. Here are a staff parking lot, an open space for parking and manutention of service vehicles, an underground fuel deposit, rooms dedicated to electricity production and transformation equipment, garages for manutention and repair, changing rooms and restrooms for the staff. Containers for garbage collection will take place in the open space. A service road on the perimeter connects this area to all of the attractions and services of the park with routes separated from the visitors ones. Within this area, in an lot of approximately 4,500 sqm, is also a nursery school for children of the staff personnel with a capacity of about 100 children.

TECHNOLOGICAL EQUIPEMENT
WATER REGULATION AND PURIFICATION A lot of the water that circulates in the park will be used by fountains and a water games which’s flow will have to be regulated and depurated. Flow regulation will be done by underground pipes and pumping stations located in hypogeum rooms. This aspect can be estimated and sized correctly only during the executive phase of the project, when the necessary volume of water can be dimensioned.
OUTDOOR AND INDOOR SOUND SYSTEM A diffused sound system network will be installed throughout the Park with a low to medium level volume to avoid installation of up high powerful loudspeakers. The loudspeaker system will be connected to a control room where music will be programmed and where it will be possible to communicate emergency messages. The same or similar control room will manage the CCTV service and broadcast video clips or advertising.
OUTDOOR AND INDOOR MICROCLIMATE During the hot season indoor climate regulation - moisture content as well as temperature - will be necessary. Air conditioning systems could recover energy with heat pumps for energy saving. Outdoor, water nebulizers could be put close to resting and queue areas. In this case it would be necessary to provide a potable water network.
VIDEO SURVEILLANCE The whole park will be covered by a video surveillance system. Cameras will be installed in strategic points and connected to monitors in the control room. This network will have a control function, checking visitor’s flow in the various areas, monitor public order and vandalism acts.
ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION Electricity from urban network should be medium voltage. In the general service area there will have to be a low-voltage transformer station and a generator of 1,000 kW and a UPS with at least ½ hour range for emergencies. A general electrical board and secondary boards will have to be installed in every building and each area of the park for management. OUTDOOR AND WATER LIGHTING Lighting is very important for the Park image. In the hot season the park will be used in fact especially at night time. In general very high lighting supports should be avoided, preferring reflected light from buildings, plants or attractions. An important contribution to night scenic effects will be given by the pond underwater lighting, as well as from the coloured fountain lighting. Some paths will be marked with bands of coloured lighting, which will also help visitor’s directing. Lighting should be studied in relation with the scenic effect perceptible from far away.
