The project had two prior goals:
Total No. of staff-months of the assignment:
- strengthen the overall image of the Campus, partly overcoming the serial layout thought for the University Departments blocks;
No 68 months
- give a hierarchy to spaces, tracks and buildings, correspondent to the functions complexity of the area: Research Institutes, Administrative Center, Area Services, Convention Center etc. The three East blocks maintain the Central Courtyard type planned in the Master Plan. In the West blocks the serial repetitiveness is broken by a large empty space of about 60x160 meters, overlooked by the six buildings. This space encourages meetings and relationships and gives at the same time the measure of the complex, extending North towards the Monte Morello hills, visible in the background.

The Complex of the Departments of Horticulture and Animal Sciences and Experimental Stables was set in the preliminary design of 1986 As a complex unit . The two buildings of the Departments are side by side and with porch UN Overlooking the main road What crosses from east to west across the University Centre ; In lots behind you develop Greenhouses and Stables Experimental . The Executive Design It and later developed for lots : Horticulture (1988-1989) , Animal Science (1991 ) , Experimental Stables (1994 ) , maintaining the relationship between the two departments . The stables Experimental I was instead moved downstream about 350 meters inside the Park of Piana Expected to Recover space for other departments The two departments are developed each on a batch of 54 × 60 meters with court typology . The quadrilateral is composed of four buildings in two to two equivalents . Those front and back , of a thickness smaller , contain the stairs and the elevator , services, administrative buildings and some studies ; the side bodies of 14.50 meters thick contain laboratories , studios and seminar rooms, in addition to the library of the Department. On the ground floor the side bodies overlook the courtyard with two arcades . The departments welcome three main functions as well as ancillary services : research laboratories and studies , part of teaching with seminar rooms, and study rooms for students and the administration. Particular attention in the distribution of the premises has been paid to the need to clearly separate the area of relevance of students from study and research . To avoid interference, the library and the computer center , in common use , are located in the intermediate area between the above spaces.

The first floor is organized four distinct areas : the area of studies of docenticon laboratories , the library , the area students the administrative area . The project was considered example of rationality and functional distribution in the building. For this reason it was added as University Department model in the first volume of the Italian Building Design Manual, edited by Hoepli.

The main building of the primary school of Levane was built in the early 1970’s. In terms of spatial distribution and standards appear to be adequate , but instead presents conditions of decay that concern both the building works that plant and therefore require substantial and costly adjustment . These assessments have confirmed the decision to proceed with a new building rather than restructuring . is also the reasons for its morphology . The main body, which houses the classrooms and all other functions of the school except for the gym, develops in line, parallel to the local road that borders the lot to the north, with dimensions of about 12 m × 78. To reduce the area covered in the lot and to make possible the realization of all the new block classrooms, standing and in use most of the current building, the “cue” is on three levels, each of which is connected directly to the portion of the soil. At the lowest level are located the offices of the institute including. The upper levels are educational activities, supplementary, complementary, all the services and equipment rooms. The main lobby entrance with double volume is at the intermediate level; on it are grafted to the east corridors of the classrooms; to the west - the entrance floor - the canteen, kitchen and reception room, 1st floor library, staff room and utility rooms. The outdoor area , closed to the north and east from the building of the school , is bordered to the street by a wall . It is on two levels (height 163.10 and height 166.70 ) , connected by a flight of steps , used for meetings and outdoor events , able to accommodate about 300 people seated .

The building is designed as a restaurant, bar and room for reading and conversation at the service of the university campus. The building complex is the result of various interventions that are layered over time . The core dates back to the sixteenth century . The tower and porch are of more recent times , probably made in the late 1700s to give prestige and importance to the southern front of the building complex that also includes the villa . At the same time can be traced back even the two houses that stood on street Lazzerini . This part of the building symmetrically balance the volume of the barns on the west side : both are the “

Very recently the intervention of closure of a wall of the gallery to expand the stable and , on it , the realization of a compartment in superelevation The restoration consist of the demolition of the recent elevation to the porch and the walls that enclose the last bay of the same. This restores the relationship between full and empty spaces that characterize the consolidated structure of the facade. The expansion work consists of the construction of a new volume containing services , technical rooms and the lobby of the lift , in adherence to the north wall . Existing buildings interventions are limited to the re-opening of some windows and buffered to replace certain stone frames of doors and windows .

The school complex which houses the High School “A. Vallisneri “Lucca is located in Via delle Rose, a suburb not far from the city walls. The buildings that currently house the high school were made at different times. The original nucleus consists of the pavilion masonry built in the late 60s and is spread over three floors according to a planimetric form “H” with a supporting structure of reinforced concrete and an external backup brick. The roof is pitched with brick mantle. Annexed to the pavilion in masonry and connected to it through the tunnel, in the same years was built a gym with structure in reinforced concrete and masonry infill. The prefabricated pavilion built in the mid-70s to adapt the school complex to the growing number of enrollments; the building is on two floors and is made with steel supporting structure and external backup of prefabricated panels sandwich type with internal insulation.

The scheme was delivered through Cornwall County Council’s Framework Contract with the new school built on the site of the existing Junior School with the construction works phased to ensure that both schools remained fully operational throughout the construction works. Jubb Consulting Engineers were responsible for providing all engineering related consultancy services including civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental and traffic related services. The steeply sloping site required innovative stepped building, re-grade, levelling and earthworks management for construction of this unique school.

This design-build contract for the Combined Universities Cornwall was for the provision of 500 student residences to be completed within a 12 month contract period. The development was designed to provide a “village feel” for the students being low rise with easy access and soft landscaping. Each unit is provided with en-suite facilities, data/coms links and is also designed to suit delegates attending the campus for conferences during the summer close-down period. Surface water drainage for the site was a particular issue and incorporates SUDS techniques to cope with the restriction on discharge rates from the site. Here we utilised 415m of trench soakaways incorporating Waving’s Aquacell Stormwater Management System to maximise the efficiency of the trenches in the weathered granite stratum. The site was steeply sloping so the units were built in terraces to match the site contours with footbridges from the road to link access the first floor accommodation.
