DESTINATION Holidays on the seaside… in Hungary To have a seaside is a chance that not all countries have. Hungary, for example, is nestled at the heart of Europe and is landlocked. Never mind, it doesn’t matter as the country has its own inland sea, the Lake Balaton. This lake, 70 kilometres of length, is one of the biggest in Europe and shelters on its shores, resorts conducive to family holidays with areas of wilderness and traditional villages. So why not go to the seaside in Hungary?

Some countries are definitely stuck sometimes with clichés that are hard to get rid of. Switzerland is one of them. No sooner do you mention this small state that the images of rich bankers, luxurious watches and milk chocolate come to mind. Of course all these things are part of the Swiss identity, but it would be a pity to narrow down this country to so little. A country that is successfully blends three cultures and whose peaks attract skiers and hikers from all over the world. Fully determined to introduce you to Switzerland, 3 Seasons offers you a tour going beyond preconceived ideas, far away from cuckoo clocks and skin pants… 3 Seasons n°121 - 2

Wherever you are spending your holidays there is probably one of these parks close to your campsite. Here are a few suggestions from 3 Seasons...

Editorial When technology makes our life easier… I might not be part of the generation that was born with an iPad in their hands, but I did get into computing when I was still very young. Growing up, I followed the development of computing. Sometimes with the soul of a pioneer: I do actually remember my first modem that I use to connect to the Internet at night so that I would not block my parents’ phone line. And then the look on my father’s face when he did receive the phone bill the next month. Without being one of these geeks at the edge of technology whose enthusiasm in front of Steve Jobs’ latest invention is beyond me, I have always thought of myself as rather gifted in computing skills. Emails, photo editing software or internet held no mystery to me. Then the social networks came to life. I do have a Facebook account. Just like everybody else. I do, however, must admit that I am not the most regular of members and I am always surprised to find posts of some of my friends describing with many details the most uninteresting things of their daily activities. Let’s not even mention Twitter where you can learn things as essential as “Paul is waiting for the bus”, “Paul has just bought some shoes” or even “Paul has missed the bus because he was writing a message on Twitter”. Even if I must admit that I find myself in the position of my father who was looking dubiously at our first VCR, I do still see real advantages to the technological developments. At the time when I am writing this article, I am on a Caravan Show in England. Once finished, the article will be sent by email, the layout will be done by computer by my graphic designer colleagues. I can’t even imagine how journalists used to work before. In the same way, since the creation of the Gold Card, Camping Cheque has always thrived to use the latest techniques to make your life easier. This time, it is the part of the site for the holders of the Gold Card that has evolved to make it easier to check your Gold Card balance. Having an account is not necessary anymore. Your Gold Card numbers and ID are enough now. You are just two clicks away from your balance.

LET TERS FROM OUR READERS
Would you like to share stories of your
experience using Camping Cheques? Or share anecdotes about
your holidays spent at one of the network's campsites? Do you have a comment about 3 Seasons Magazine? Do you have a
question to ask, or would you like to solicit advice of some kind? 3 Seasons is listening.
Send us your letters, all will be read, and some will be published.
« I travel with a caravan equipped of an electric oven, a backup heater and other electrical appliances. Is the electricity powerful enough on the campsites of the Camping Cheque network? » Reply 3 Seasons/ Camping Cheque The electric hook-up is included in the price of the Camping Cheque. Guests are limited to 6 Amps, or 5 Kw per day. So be cautious with your electrical equipment. If you exceed the daily consumption, the campsite may have to charge you for your over-consumption. Furthermore, the use of many electrical appliances with resistance can cause power cut by overload. Check before the simultaneous use of your equipment the power necessary for their use. Similarly if you request an increase in amperage from the campsite, it might come at an extra charge to you.
« I have just renewed my subscription for my Gold Card, but I have not received a new card, is that normal? » Reply 3 Seasons/ Camping Cheque The Gold Card does not have a limited lifespan. Only the cheques loaded on your card are valid for four calendar years. So you can keep your card after renewing your subscription. However, if your card is damaged and unusable, we can exchange it against another. In this case, we will ask you to participate and pay €10. The first renewal of your card is free.
« I cannot seem find the balance of my Cheques on the website? » Reply 3 Seasons/ Camping Cheque Go to the Gold Card page from the Home page of the website. Thanks to your ID number and your Gold Card number, you gain directly access to the balance of your cheques or your loyalty points.
« The Site Directory 2012 points out that there are 622 campsites members of the Camping Cheque networks. However, when we go on your website, we find that there are 640 campsites. Is this right? » Reply 3 Seasons/ Camping Cheque Several campsites join the Camping Cheque network throughout the year. We always keep you informed via this magazine and our website. In addition, we develop throughout the year partnerships with the major players in the campsite world. This is why in January 2012, 15 naturist campsites joined Camping Cheque thanks to a partnership with La Vie au Soleil: a publisher specialized in the world of naturism. As a matter of fact you can get hold of the naturist holidays guide book in Europe (a guide that references naturist beaches and campsites), from our website.

More popular than wine, beer has become the main alcoholic drink in Europe. It is drank everywhere, from north to south, and in some countries, it is part of the gastronomic traditions. And if for a long time, the tourist did not give it all the consideration it deserved, numerous visits or routes are now dedicated to this drink whose history dates back to antique times. Between Belgium, Germany, England and the Czech Republic, 3 Seasons invites you to discover some of these countries where beer is part of the Heritage...

A walk through
the hop fields he history of beer dates back to 8000 BC. Of course, the drink made of soaked barley bread consumed at the time by the Sumerians had little to do with the current beers, but a few centuries later, Ramses II already proclaimed very strict rules regarding the preparation of the beverage. Then there are traces of breweries throughout the Greek and Roman times. But it is with the people of Northern and Central Europe that beer knows its greatest success. In Belgium and northern France, in particular, it is adopted by the Gauls, and when the Catholic religion is established, all the abbeys in the region have a brewery. This is a tradition that still carries on today with Trappist beers and Abbey beers. According to each country, the beer follows a different progression, but, is usually subjected to a structure. In Belgium the brewers guilds impose rules on the manufacture of beer while in Germany a law on purity proclaimed in 1516 (Reinheitsgebot), is still in force today, and limits the use of components to water, barley and hops. Because of the multitude of breweries and beer brands, it is difficult today to summarize each country to a type of beer, but overall, we find in Germany and the Czech Republic a blonde fairly light beer, the Pilsener, in Belgium it will be stronger beers with a wide variety of tastes and in England the Ale, an amber beer with high fermentation that is typical of the UK. In all these countries, the return of craft breweries is a good opportunity today to enjoy local beers at each of your stopovers.

Trappist and Abbey beers With over 100 breweries spread over a small area and over 500 varieties of beer, Belgium is a paradise for a beer enthusiast. Trappist beers, well-known brands and craft, opportunities for visits abound. You can, for example, discover the secrets of Jupiler, the most popular Belgian beer (near Liège, more information on www.breweryvisits.com) or Leffe (in Leffe, not far from Dinant) or visit one of the oldest breweries in the country (brewery Dubuisson in Tournai, www.cuveedestrolls.com, brewery Roman in Oudenaarde, www.roman.be). Make some enquiries, there are bound to be a brewery to visit close to the campsite where you are staying. The various Belgium tourist boards also offered routes and thematic tours; check their website www.wallonie-tourisme.be where you will find a list (not exhaustive) of walks around the subject of beer making.

Beer is by far the first alcoholic beverage consumed in Germany. It must be said that the tradition goes way back. In the 15th century, there were already more than 100 different beers. Today the country has no less than 1200 breweries and about 5000 types of beers. The big annual event is of course the Munich Oktoberfest where the major breweries in the country offer their beers under huge tents (from September 22 to October 3, 2012) but it would be a pity to narrow down the production of beer in German to this festival where you cannot find the small brewers. The country has an abundance of interesting small breweries offering specialties such as Rauchbier (smoked beer from the brewery Schlenkerla in Bamberg, www.schlenkerla.de), the Altbier (top-fermented beer that tastes both bitter and sweet) in the Düsseldorf area (you can include a visit of the brewery Uerige in Düsseldorf, www.uerige.de) or the surprising Gose of Leipzig (this beer does not comply with the rules of purity and uses innovative ingredients such as salt or coriander).

The « Ale », unique to England
The country of « Pils » The Czech Republic has a reputation for producing very good beers thanks to the high quality of the hop of Bohemia. The region most conducive to beer tasting is in the West of the country in Pilsen and the surrounding area. The small town located 45 minutes from Prague is indeed the capital of Czech beer and as a matter of fact it is the reason why it has given Pilsner its name. The emblematic brands are Pilsner Urquell and Budvar (Budweiser - not to be confused with the American beer with which the Czech brand is in trial with). In Pilsen, it is possible to visit breweries and sample beers. Do not however stop at these: each region has its own specialties. You will be able to sample many at the beer festival held in Prague from May 14 to June 2. More information about the festival: www.ceskypivnifestival.cz.

English beers remain a British specialty that is not found anywhere else. The traditional beer, the Ale is an amber beer, with a high fermentation and usually not very gassy. A wide variety is available, still linked to local breweries and this is a phenomenon that should not decrease: there are about fifty small breweries that open each year in the UK. These beers are available to taste in the many pubs that are scattered over the English countryside or you can chose to visit some of the breweries that open their doors to the public. You will find a list of breweries producing Ale all across England on the website www.visitabrewery.co.uk. Among the most interesting breweries, it is worth mentioning Jennings in the Lake District area (www.jenningsbrewery.co.uk), Wadworth in the southwest of the island (www.wadworth.co.uk) or even Beldoir, close to Nottingham (www.belvoirbrewery.co.uk).

The Westvleteren 12, the myth for the beer enthusiast Unlike the Abbey beers that are brewed by nonreligion breweries who bought the name of an abbey for commercial reasons (Leffe, Grimbergen, etc.) Trappist beers must be brewed under the supervision of the monks within a Trappist Abbey and most of the profits from the sale must be given back for charitable or social uses. There are seven in Europe, including six in Belgium (Chimay, Orval, Westvleteren, Rochefort, Westmalle and Achel) and one in the Netherlands (La Trappe). Among all these beers, the Westvleteren has an especially prestigious status. Considered one of the best beers in the world, it is in fact only sold at the Abbey and following very strict conditions (booking in advance, one crate per car, etc.).. Take advantage of a stay in Belgium to go and buy a case of this precious beverage. More information and bookings on the site of the abbey of Sint Sixtus: www.sintsixtus.be.

To have a seaside is a chance that not all countries have.

The charm of the city has been unfortunately spoiled by buildings due to the mass tourism of July and August. However, the city offers plenty of entertainment. Surrounded by hills, the shores of Lake Balaton are flat and offer hundreds of miles of roads conducive to long bike rides. The reliefs surrounding Lake Balaton are extinct volcanoes whose soil is really suitable for grape growing. The region includes six wine regions whose total area covers about 30,000 ha of which 11,000 ha are cultivated. It produces mostly white wine, but also red and sparkling wines. An area naturally protected If the Lake Balaton is specially sought after for its beaches and waters, it is not a reason to forget that its northern shore is still wild and shelters very beautiful landscapes. The latter are now protected by a national park that stretches along from the northern shore of the lake until its eastern tip.The Balaton Uplands National Park is divided between varied landscapes and six eco-systems. It can include walking the marshes of the Balaton Downlands, covered with reeds, where no fewer than 232 bird species nest. If most of these marshes are closed to the public outside of guided tours, a trail that runs through the park remains free of access. The Tihany peninsula and its unspoilt landscapes or the Geopark Bakony, where you can admire some surprising columnar basalt high
of a few dozen meters, are also part of this unspoiled natural area. The Tihany peninsula, in particular, is one of the most picturesque of the lake. This strip of land still wild that separate the lake in two parts has as it top a delightful village, recognizable by its white church. From the heights, the beautiful viewpoints over the lake are plentiful. There are many hiking possibilities all over the Peninsula. Over the course of a stroll you’ll discover some surprising limestone cones made by former geysers. Whether you are simply looking to relax by the water, or go hiking through beautiful landscapes or visit cities rich in culture, Balaton is definitely an enticing destination. n

In days gone by, the Mille Miglia used to be one of the most prestigious European c a r ra c e s . To d ay, to re c a l l th i s glorious time, dozens of vintage vehicles travel through idyllic Italian landscapes from Brescia to Rome in the month of May. So take advantage of your Italian holidays to admire the show of beautiful cars on parade.
Y
L RACE A N O
E VENT
S S AC RO ounded in 1927, the Mille Miglia race was once one of the most prestigious automobile races in the world. 1 628.7 km long, or 1,000 miles, it ran without stopovers using the roads as an open racetrack. At the wheel of their fast cars, the drivers competed against each other on the windy roads of Tuscany, Umbria, Lombardy and Abruzzo. Between 1927 and 1957, the event took place 24 times before being discontinued for a while. In the early 198s, the decision came to give this race a new lease of life and to allow exclusively vintage cars to join in. It was an immediate success, allowing the organizers to limit the number of cars to select only the most prestigious vehicles. Even though the Mille Miglia still remains a race, the sport side of it has slipped into the background with the public piling up along the roads to admire the spectacle of beautiful vintage cars.
F
The 2012 edition promises to be as successful as previous editions. Over 1300 cars, from 25 countries, have already enlisted with the organizers to join this year’s competition. Among the selection criteria, priority will be given this year to vehicles dating from 1930 to 1952. The race will take place from May 17 to 20 and will include three stages between Brescia, Ferrara and Rome. The itinerary will ensure that competitors cross over some of the beautiful Italian cities, since, besides Rome and Brescia, the race will go through Florence, Siena, Bologna or Verona. If you love old cars, take advantage of the many Camping Cheque campsites along the way so you can admire some of the most beautiful cars of their era. More information on www.1000miglia.eu

from 17 to 20 May The Museum of Mille Miglia If you are staying in Brescia and some of the vintage racing cars that are taking part in the Mille Miglia race have seduced you, you will be able to admire a few more of them in the museum that is dedicated to the Mille Miglia since 2004. Most of the museum is housed in the elegant surrounding of an ancient monastery and goes back on the glorious years of the race, between 1927 and 1957. The vehicles on display change regularly especially during the Mille Miglia race as many of the one on show go back on the road to enter the competition. More information on www.museomillemiglia.it

Geneva enjoys a unique setting, surrounded by beautiful mountains and on the shores of Lake Geneva where its impressive water-jet stands. Although still very attached to its Protestant history, it is today a dynamic place to live. The altitude trail of Goms: this hiking trail runs along the sunny side of the Goms Valley between Oberwald and Bellwald without ever crossing a single road. It is one of the most beautiful excursions of the Valais through forests and meadows with breath taking views of several peaks over 4000 meters.

Fully determined to introduce you to Switzerland, 3 Seasons offers you a tour going beyond preconceived ideas, far away from cuckoo clocks and skin pants…

efore we venture too far in Switzerland, we first acquire at the border the highway tax disc to be able to travel freely on the highways. This disc is valid for one year but its purchase makes life easier even for a stay of several days. The first few miles of our circuit are set on the shores of Lake Geneva. This natural border between France and Switzerland enjoys exceptional surroundings. The hills covered with vineyards and the snow-peaks of the Alps make up indeed a magnificent setting for this lake on the border of Geneva and Lausanne.
Best known for being the headquarters of major international organizations, Geneva is more surprising than its reputation for being an over sensible city as its usual image might suggests. We especially like the lake, suitable for pleasant strolls. You can admire the impressive water-jet that reaches an altitude of 140 m (429 feet) high. A little warning, if the wind blows the wrong way, you might get wet... Besides Geneva, the lake exudes a quiet elegance with pretty beach resorts such as Montreux which festival is one of the major events in the world of Jazz.
Leaving the shores of Lake Geneva, we drive south and enter the region of Valais. This little bit of Switzerland shares several cultures having borders with France and Italy. You will be able to practice your French and German. And the Italian is never very far away. The landscapes are diverse with many valleys enjoying a mild climate reminding the closeness of southern Europe, with vineyards conducive to cycling and up to 2000 hours of sunshine per year. As soon as you venture up in altitude, you’ll quickly come across snowy peaks and n n n

Accustomed to the Rhône river large and quiet running through Lyon or the Drôme, we are surprised to discover, in the valley of Conches, a river still wild that runs through pretty villages with chalets that have taken a brownish colour with the sun. It has just started its course in the Rhone Glacier and calms down later on, before mingling its waters with those of Lake Geneva.

Between the Valais and Ticino we travel through stunning mountain scenery. If the roads are winding, they offer in return for magical views of the Alps. However, for those with larger carriages, it is advisable to enquire about the quality of the roads before embarking on touristic itineraries. To reach Ticino, we have to cross over the Alps. For this, there are two options: go over or below. The Gotthard Rail Tunnel makes it possible to reach in a few minutes the southern slopes of the mountain. With its 57 kilometres, the tunnel is the longest
railway tunnel in the world. We board the motor home on a train that takes us in a few minutes to Ticino. According to the seasons it is not uncommon to leave the Valais in the snow and to reach Ticino where it is good to walk in shirt sleeves. It must be said that the region is more reminiscent of the Mediterranean coastline than Switzerland. In Locarno or Bellinzona, palm trees line the streets. The province of Ticino undermines many clichés about Switzerland all by itself. It is far cry from the cuckoo clocks and wooden chalets. Everything here reminds

Zurich Zurich is mostly known for its banks and its influence in the world of finance. However, the city deserves better than this rather stern image. Zurich is one of the most beautiful cities in the country and the richest when it comes to culture. It was here, at the Cabaret Voltaire, that the birthplace of the Dadaism took place in 1916. It is mainly in the old town that you will find the most beautiful buildings inherited from the 16th and 17th centuries, the largest clock in Europe at the top of St. Peter's Church and the elegant shopping street of Bahnhofstrasse, which was built where the old city walls used to stand. Lined with banks and luxury shops, the street symbolizes the richness of the city. Art lovers will appreciate the Museum of Fine Arts or the Swiss National Museum, while others will take a stroll on the walkways along the lake of Zurich. us of Italy, from the language to the banks of the lakes where life is sweet, even in winter. If Ticino is a far cry from all the clichés about Switzerland, the same cannot be said about the next stage of our journey in Graubünden. We enter in the heart of Heidiland. The country of Heidi takes its name from the young heroine of Johanna Spyri's novels in love with the mountains. This is the typical postcard of Switzerland with its mountain pastures where cows grazed peacefully and whose milk is used to make chocolate, with the Swiss wooden chalets with balconies full of flowers. The region has several ski resorts among the most prestigious in Switzerland, just like Saint Moritz. This is a destination that is equally suitable in winter and summer. If during
the snowiest month, it is possible to slide down the slopes, in the summer there is a wide range of outdoor activities awaiting sports enthusiasts especially hiking and mountain biking. There are in fact more than 10,000 km of hiking trails that make it possible to go on the discovery of the many mountain lakes surrounded by lush mountain scenery and why not encounter an Alpine ibex (wild mountain goat). And for the less athletic, the region is famous for its spas and health resorts such as Bad Ragaz or Vals. While the Alps take on a softer appearance, we carry on towards central Switzerland where we visit Lucerne and its region. The scenery is less steep than in Graubünden, but it doesn’t lose any of its splendours. Tradition is very present in this region. There are in particular many tell signs of William Tell. n n n the history of Switzerland would have lived in the canton of Lucerne in the 14th century. We take advantage of our visit to walk to the Rhine Falls, the largest waterfall in Europe. With the Alps behind us, for the first time in a while we cross over lowland landscapes but already the hilly landscapes of Jura stand in the horizon. For a time we leave behind our hiking boots for some more cultural orientated visit and visit Solothum, a beautiful baroque city, and Bern. Bern is the city where the government of the Helvetic confederation has its headquarters, it does tend to be under the shadow of Geneva and Zurich, both being the cultural an economic capitals. However we decide to give it a chance.
And we do not regret it. The city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has a medieval old town including 6 km of archways that makes it one of the longest covered shopping promenades in Europe. Art lovers will be thrilled during their visit as Bern exhibits at the Paul Klee centre the most important collection of works by the painter. It is really a nice conclusion to this very beautiful tour in the land of snowy peaks.

Castles in the Bernese Oberland The area of the Lake of Thun, south of Bern, is rich in beautiful castles. The Schloss Thun, built in the 12th century, is located in the town of Thun. Its high towers offer a beautiful panorama of the surroundings. Although it was built in the second half of the 19th century, the Schloss Hunegg is a surprising mixture of Renaissance and Art Nouveau. With its glazed tiles, the Schloss Oberhofen is probably the most beautiful castle in the region. Built in the 13th century, this property of the Habsburg family also has a beautiful landscaped park. Because boat trips are organised on the lake it is possible to visit the three castles in the course of the day.

The romantic banks of the Seine according to Woody Allen - 1st and 4th arrondissement Woody Allen has never made any secret of his love of France. He did, however, take his time to come and shoot in Paris. The first time was for Everyone says I love you (1996)but more importantly for Midnight in Paris (2011).The second film goes back and forth from the contemporary city to the Paris of the 1920s. It is a real tourist guide of the French capital taking you from the Pont Alexandre III to the flea market of Saint Ouen, crossing the Musée de l’Orangerie. It is above all one of the few films to show us the inside of the Musée Rodin. This museum is located a few steps away from the Invalides and Napoleon’s tomb and is one of the nicest museums in Paris during the summer months. Some of his sculptures are actually displayed outdoors, in a pretty garden perfect for a lovely walk or for a coffee break. However, in both films, it is often the banks of the Seine that hold an important role. The banks can be accessed via 36 Quai des Orfèvres (the French police headquarters) for a pleasant stroll around the île de la Cité and discover the Pont Neuf, the oldest bridge in Paris, or the Square du Vert Galant (nickname of the King Henry the IVth).
2 There are very few films in recent years that have done as much advertising for Paris than the film Amélie (Le Fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain (Jean-Pierre Jeunet, 2001). The young heroine, played by Audrey Tautou, has become abroad the ideal Parisian. Most of the film is set in the glorified district of Montmartre. Walking by, you will for example see the Café des Deux Moulins where Amélie works in the film (15 rue Lepic). As well as the very (too?) touristic Place du Tertre and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris, take the time to wander through the streets of this Parisian village where Picasso and Modigliani, among others, used to live. Long ago there were 14 mills on the hill of Montmartre. Only two remain: the Blute-Fin and the Radet. These two mills composed the frame for the famous painting by Renoir, "Bal du Moulin de la Galette,"painting housed at the Musée d’Orsay. au célèbre tableau de Renoir visible au musée d'Orsay.
Breathless A Bout de Souffle (Jean-Luc Godard, 1960) is one of the iconic films of the Nouvelle Vague). Most of the film takes place in Paris and it is actually on the Champs Elysees that Jean-Paul Belmondo comes across Jean Seberg who is selling the Herald Tribune. The French are in the habit of saying of the ChampsElysees that it is the most beautiful avenue in the world. A point of view that can be disagreed upon especially since nowadays it is lined up with famous brands and fast food places. It does, however, remain one of the symbolic places of Paris. It does open onto the Arc de Triomphe, towering over the Place de l’Etoile. Built by order of Napoleon between 1808 and 1835, this arch is a continuation of the one found in the Tuileries Gardens. This axis will be extended in the 20th century with the Arche de la Défense. The top can be accessed (50 metres) to enjoy a nice view over Paris. not be the most famous film taking place in Paris, but is certainly one of the most accomplished. A charming couple (Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn) travels across the city in search of $ 250,000. Paris is the perfect setting for this sophisticated romantic comedy. The final part of the film is set in the colonnades of the courtyard of the Palais Royal. This majestic building was built in the 17th century by Cardinal Richelieu. If the palace has not changed since the filming of Charade, the courtyard no longer has the same appearance since 1985, when the Buren’s columns where installed. This contemporary art installation in the heart of historic sites in Paris aroused many debates between modernists and conservatives. But it seems that Parisians are now accustomed to it. Make up your own mind ...

« Atmosphère, atmosphère... Est-ce que j'ai une gueule d'atmosphère... ». (Atmosphere, atmosphere ... Do I have a mug of atmosphere ...). This is probably one of the most famous retort of French cinema. We owe it to Arletty in the film Hôtel du Nord (Marcel Carné, 1938). For the purpose of the film, the scenery of the Canal St Martin was rebuilt in a studio. It has also changed since the 1930s. Created by on the order of Napoleon to facilitate navigation on the Seine, the canal has long since lost its practical use to welcome leisure boating and lovers that come to enjoy its banks during the mild autumn afternoons. About 4 kilometres long, the canal and its nine locks make for a romantic route in the heart of what used to be the working class Paris. On summer evenings, it is not uncommon to see picnics being organised with music in the background.
Of all the films with Paris for background, an un Américain à Paris (Vincente Minelli, 1951)) is certainly the most spellbinding. Following the rhythm of the melodies of Gershwin, Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron offer us a breath taking ballet in a Paris full of vibrant colours. Although the film was studio made, several places of the French capital are recognizable especially the Place de la Concorde and the Opera with the superb final ballet. The dance scene in front of the magnificent building built by Charles Garnier between 1860 and 1875 also made references to Carpeaux’s sculptures that adorn the front of the Opera and illustrate dancing. There is no need to attend a performance to see the inside of the Opera. It is open to the public on guided tours. Note that the painting of the dome made by Chagall is not the decor that was visible at the opening of the Opera. It was painted above the original painting done by Jules Lepenveu.

On the banks of the Loire River Nestled on the banks of the Loire River, on the doorstep of a village, listed as one of the most beautiful of France, the campsite Isle Verte welcomes you in Anjou, a land of fine food with a unique historical heritage. When the Loire Valley is mentioned, the first things that usually spring to mind are its famous castles: Chenonceau, Amboise, Chambord, etc. Perhaps a little less well known the region of Saumur does, however, hold many charms. The banks of the Loire River are lined up with ancient troglodytic buildings that now have been turned into houses, cellars or even fungi culture caves, as well as charming villages of white stone. Montsoreau, with its castle reflecting in the river, holds the charm and elegance of the region with its pretty buildings and peaceful life that comes alive on market days. It’s a throw away from the central square of the village, listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France that the Kawan Village Isle Verte awaits you. Set between cliffs with troglodytic dwellings and the banks of the Loire River with its bike path running alongside, this small campsite is in an

exceptional setting. The owner, Clement Carvalho, passionate about his region, will be pleased to help you discover this little bit of France where life is so sweet. In addition to the many visits available to you on the doorsteps of the campsite, the Isle Verte also organized several times a week in its bar some wine tasting of Saumur as well as “guinguette” evenings during which you will be able to dance and sample local specialties listening to the sound of guitar and accordion. These are some of the few reasons to come and enjoy the sweetness of life on the bank of the Loire River. n

Neset Camping
TO VISIT CLOSE BY: Elk Safari
Camp on the banks of a fjord It is in the South of Norway, at the tip of a peninsula surrounded by the clear waters of Byglandsfjord, that the campsite Neset welcomes you. Ideally located to explore the southern part of the country, it is also an ideal stopover if you are travelling up North. 3 seasons invites you to visit this campsite. Back in the early 1960s when the campsite Neset was still a farm, the father of Olav Neset, the current owner, was often asked by tourists whether it was possible to camp on his land as the setting was so beautiful. This is what gave him the idea to open a campsite back in 1965. With nothing else than a sign “campsite” at the entrance of the property, he welcomed 20 tents on his first opening night. This was the start of an on-going success. The farm work was discontinued and now the 300 pitches of this four stars campsite spread across 8 ha. Even though the services on offer on the campsite have changed a great deal since the early days and now include a restaurant, private heated sanitary facilities or a wifi connection available throughout the campsite, the main attraction of the campsite still remains its outstanding setting, on a peninsula that goes towards
the crystalline waters of Byglandsfjord. Here, each awakening is an amazing sight. Especially on the pitches located directly by the water just like the new pitches especially dedicated to motor homes and opened in 2012. With its 1600 meters of shoreline, the campsite provides really easy access to the waters of the Fjord so that you can enjoy boating, canoeing or even kayaking. As for swimming: the waters of Byglandsfjord happen to be the warmest of the country during summer with an average of 23°C. The campsite is open all year round and offers new appeals with each season. However, if a choice must be made, it is between mid-May and mid- September that the weather will be milder and you’ll be able to make the most of your stay with the long days during the sun hardly goes down. n

A park dedicated to new technologies When talking about the future it is sometimes difficult to stay fashionable. A simple look at some of the science fiction films of the 1970s are convincing enough. The Futuroscope which is celebrating this year its 25th anniversary has, however, managed to achieve this. Since its opening, it has welcome over 40 million visitors and has known how to develop its attractions. It now offers several attractions based on new technologies including 4D films. 2012 will see a particularly enjoyable performance of the show on the Little Prince that will immersed the spectator in the story or iMagic, an incredible magic show.
