DESTINATION Champagne, a bubbly nature

Very few regions are linked to a specialty like the Champagne area is. As soon as the name is mentioned what springs to mind are sparkling wines with golden bubbles. It might hold a privilege rank in the area, but Champagne is not about not seeing the wood for the trees in this part of France dotted with lakes and woodland, where the Seine and the Marne spring from. Once you have visited the caves, climb on your bikes or put on your hiking shoes to (re-) discover the many facets of this region that go hand in hand with nature.

EXPLORE Coastlines stroll between the North Region and Normandy

Those that only consider the sea via the sunny beaches of southern France or Spain don’t know what they are missing out on. Of course the Northern Sea or the English Channel do not offer the same weather benefits as the Mediterranean, but for somebody who knows how to get past preconceived ideas will come across dizzying cliffs, towns overloaded with history and green pastures. 3 seasons takes you to Northern France for a walk on the shores of the English Channel and the Northern Sea.

These festivals are taking place throughout the year so choose your next destination according to your taste: jazz, rock, cinema etc. the program is versatile. 3 Seasons is giving you some suggestions handpicked among the hundreds of European festivals.

Editorial Is it due to global warming, to the earth shifting from its axis during the earthquake in Japan, or the intervention of aliens with an evil plan to invade our planet, I don’t know. One thing is for sure. Last summer was rotten. Very few privileged southern regions did fare better than other but we must admit that in a global manner, the weather back in July for a disaster with 15 days of rain that downed the spirits of many campers. Like you, but in my case for professional reason that see me pacing through the various campsites searching for photos at the height of summer, I decided a long time ago to take my holidays during the low season. I soon got used to my friends teasing me when they are taking advantage of the months of July and August to escape far away from their offices and the polluted cities. However, this year the smell of revenge was in the air. Indeed, spring was hot and dry, so much so that the specialists had announced a heat wave, and early fall absolutely beautiful, when July and August were not so exciting. So this year I thoroughly enjoyed my revenge for years of teasing by sending my photos of sunny holidays to my friends that saw the sunshine through the window of their television. Some will say that seasons don’t exist anymore. Of course, last year was a one off and I don’t wish this to happen again in 2012 to my friends, owners of campsite. The fact remains that the climatic variation over spring and summer in 2011 have shown us that there are not rules when it comes down to the weather. This proves you right in choosing to travel during the low season for the past years. On top of the financial advantage of going with Camping Cheque, you now have the opportunity to enjoy the most beautiful months of the year. I don’t know what the weather will be like in 2012, but I think that once again, those who will have chosen the low season will probably be right again.

France

Stars are falling down on the Camping Cheque network Since 2010, the French Federation of outdoor accommodation has launched a brand new classification. Soon, all the campsites will have to undergo an audit to be awarded their stars under new regulations. The great novelty of this classification is the creation of a 5-star rank. This new category is more demanding than the previous 4 star rank ever was. The campsites must offer for example a swimming area, trilingual staff at reception or even heated bathroom facilities. This new ranking system is more about quality compared to the previous 4 star which was purely administrative, with the aim of rewarding the better equipped campsites. The Camping Cheque network always takes pride in offering you high quality sites, 12 campsites have already received the 5 star and the list should grow longer in the upcoming weeks: Airotel Camping de la Côte d'Argent Hourtin (p. 103 of the 2012 Site Directory), Airotel Le Vieux Port (p. 120), Arinella Bianca (p. 205), Camping L'Ardéchois (p. 210), Camping La Garangeoire (p. 86) le Domaine de la Rive (p. 107), l'International Castellane (p. 191), Le Caussanel (p. 145), Kawan Village le Val d'Authie (p. 36), Les Brunelles (p. 87), Kawan Village les Ranchisses (p. 208) and Les Vignes. Domaine du Logis At the heart of Brittany Some of the main assets of the Domaine du logis are space, a domain with character and a friendly atmosphere for this lovely campsite situated in inner Brittany and hiding away in the park of a castle. As soon as you arrived at the Domaine du Logis, one can’t help but be seduced by this wooded park with spacious pitches and with facilities sheltered by thick stone walls in the outbuildings of a castle dating from the 15th century. One then falls under the charms of Miguel and Delphine, managers of the campsite. After working for many years with Delphine’s brother and sister in law, on the Kawan Village Haliotis, à Pontorson, they grabbed the chance that presented itself and took the management of this charming campsite back in 2009, campsite which had not taken the full advantage of its potential. In just under 3 seasons they have improved the quality of the campsite by offering high quality facilities (swimming pool, fitness room, bar, restaurant, bread store), by renovating the sanitary blocs but above all by stamping the place with their cheerfulness, availability and friendliness. Whilst all the facilities are

to be found in the courtyard of the old farm, the pitches are spread over the wooded park. More or less shaded, to suit all preferences, they are grassy, spacious and transpire of calmness. Some might consider a disadvantage to be inside of Brittany rather than by the sea. However this is a real asset for the Domaine du logis. A stone away from the Combourg, home of Chateaubriand, the campsite is an ideal start point for those who wish to visit the seashore (St Malo, Dinan ou Dinard are only half an hour drive and are accessible by bike path), but also the inside of Brittany, amongst others Rennes. A proof that doesn’t lie: after only 3 seasons, Miguel and Delphine have already turned a lot of their customers into regulars. n

Camping Boltaña Boltaña, at the heart of the Pyrenees The National Park of Ordesa is set in the Spanish Pyrenees, a country of valleys and canyons. 3 Seasons takes you to this preserved area on the campsite Boltaña. Angel Moreno, the current owner of the campsite Boltoña, started in the Outdoor Accommodation world in 1978. Back then he owned a business of supermarkets and wanted to stop. He decided to rent a campsite. After renovating and developing this small campsite, he gave up on the rental to create his own campsite back in the early 90’ on a 6ha site. Boltaña was born. With its swimming pool, its lovely restaurant and very comfortable facilities, the campsite soon became a choice destination in this part of the Pyrenees and many campers have fallen under the spell of this charming site located in the mountains and transpiring serenity. Open all year round, this is indeed the ideal starting point to start exploring this region of the Spanish Pyrenees with, among others, the nearby village of Ainsa but foremost the National Park of Ordesa, a hiker’s paradise. The region is to be discovered with the

same amount of pleasure in all seasons but it is however in spring or autumn, with the ever changing nature that it is at its most glorious. The hiking trails are also less crowded than in summer. It is also during those seasons that bird watchers can observe the most birds including a wide variety of birds of prey. And since the campsite is open all year, you just have to choose your favourite season. n

CHAMPAGNE C Very few regions are linked to a specialty like the Champagne area is.

On the banks of the Lake forêt d’Orient, you can observe the migration of Common cranes and take advantage of the hundreds of kilometers of marked trails going through forests and countryside, you can indulge in hiking or long bike rides. Or go on the discovery of the source of the Marne and the Meuse Rivers.

a bubbly nature If you take a look at the map of the national parks of France, you’ll notice that all the parks are located south of the Loire. As such they include only mountains and coastal areas. This is when it was decided to create a park that would enhance the plain forest heritage of France, all eyes turned to the Champagne area. And so in 2009, the announcement was made that an 11th national park would be created in France straddling across the Champagne and Bourgogne region. This park will become the third natural park of the region with the regional park of “forêt d’Orient” and the “Montagne de Reims”. Another proof if it was required of the natural wealth of the Champagne region.

V

One of the main strength of this region is the vast woodlands and its many lakes. The largest ones are the lake of the forêt d'Orient (2500 ha) and the lake du Der (4800 ha), each one is divided between recreational areas for swimming and sailing, and preserved areas for bird sanctuaries. In spring and autumn, during migration periods, the shore of the lakes are filled with a multitude of birds such as the bean geese, whitefronted geese and greylag geese, eagles, wild swans of even some Bewick's swans. The migration of the common cranes is an event that is eagerly awaited. The mammals are also present in large numbers around these lakes, but as many only come out at nightfall, it is more difficult to catch a glimpse of them in those wooded areas. n n n

Tuffière of Rolampont n n n The forest is indeed one of the other assets of this region. It covers, in fact, a large part of the territory notably with large areas covered with oaks and deciduous trees such as the forêt d'Orient (130 km2 ), the forêt d'Othe (155 km2) or the forêt de la Montagne de Reims (190 km2). The Montagne de Reims certainly doesn’t hold its name from a mountain (288 m height), this plateau area that rise above the plains of Champagne blends to please the eye, the forest and the precious vines growing on its slopes. It might seem to be a paradox, but water does hold an important place in the Champagne area. In addition to its lakes, many rivers and streams run through the territory. It’s in the far end of the south region, the Haute-Marne, that three main rivers begin their course: the Marne river, the Aube river and the Meuse river. To these three streams you can add the Seine river that start its travel from Burgundy, a few miles away from Langres. Each of these sources is the perfect framework for pleasant strolls along the banks of the streams that are just starting their course. To fully appreciate the wilderness charms

of Champagne, it is a must to leave the motorway that often takes you across bleak landscape of plains that do not encourage you to discover further the area. However, as soon as you leave the main roads, you will have access to an extensive network of 5000 km of marked hiking trails and 450 km of green ways that reward the more curious by taking them from the shores of the lakes up to the heart of the forest to find an orchid here and there or a flight of migratory birds. So if for Champagne is only a synonym to sparkling wine and boring highways, it is high time to venture away from the beaten tracks onym to sparkling wine and boring highways, it is high time to venture away from the beaten tracks. n

The phenomenon of tufa is due to the action of water. The water cascades down and leaves behind dead leaves, branches etc. the limestone then turns the moss into tufa (a very friable limestone). The limestone and moss grinding together eventually turn into natural dams that give the tuffières its characteristic disposition of steps. The region of Langres is filled with tufa but the most famous and spectacular one is the one found at Tuffière of Rolampont. Besides the Tuffière itself, you can also observe several species of protected dragonflies. Flora and fauna to be observed in Champagne Common Cranes: The migration of the common cranes is an event particularly popular with bird watchers. The tuffières (tufa) are a frequent phenomenon in the south of Champagne. The soil and climate of the region make it a place conducive for orchids. Dotted with lakes (here the Lake of Liez) and forests, the border between Champagne and Burgundy in 2012 will become the first national park in northern France. The Lighthouse of Verzenay, 15 km away from Reims, houses a museum on audiovisual techniques and modern stage design, dedicated to the Champagne vineyards.

Flowers and Orchids:The Butte de Taloison, in the Haute Marne, on the plateau of Langres, is the place to admire 35 rare specimen of plants and Brienne-la-Vieille, the « Pelouse des Brebis » is the hideaway of striking orchids. Stag: In the fall, « Sorties au brame du cerf » (bellowing of the stag outings) are organized by the National Forests Office in the state run forest of Arc-Chateauvillain. Contact the Tourist Office of Chaumont (03 25 03 80 80). Mammals: 65 out of 135 species of French mammals are living in the Champagne region, the majority being rare and protected species, such as the wild cat. It remains difficult to observe them outside of guided tours unless using a lot of patience. It is possible to admire the wildlife area of the Forêt d’Orient, where the average mammals are visible of the region (wild boar, roe deer, deer, etc.), as well as elk, aurochs or tarpan (horses from the steppes near the Konik Polski). Amphibians: The wetlands in the the lakes areas are rich in amphibians. The Regional Park of Forêt d'Orient accounts for 13 species of amphibians all protected (frogs, newts, salamanders, etc.).

3 seasons takes you to Northern France for a walk on the shores of the English Channel and the Northern Sea.

ith the halo of diaphanous light and the wind, the beaches of the Northern Sea extend as far as the eye can see. It’s by the Belgian border, on the Opal Coast that we begin our journey. These vast stretches of white sand are the ideal setting for longs walks and for any wind related sports. As soon as the sunny days return, you can see the kites and the land sailing vehicles darting across the beaches. Both Capes, Cap Blanc-Nez and Cap GrisNez, are two of the most beautiful places on the coast. Both cliffs rise several hundred feet above sea level and offer beautiful view points on the bay of Wissant and England in the distance. Further south, the salty water of the sea meets the fresh water of the Somme River turning it into a surprising landscape

whose colors change with the currents and lights. This area is particularly appreciated by nature lovers. The Bay of Somme is indeed known for its rich birdlife. As it happens it is here that the Marquenterre Bird Park was created, a park which includes no fewer than 340 species of birds. Carrying in on towards the south, we leave behind the coast of Picardie to enter Normandy, peaceful and lush region, ideal for holidays and relaxation. Let’s have a stop-over in Dieppe. With its reputation of being the closest beach to Paris, it became the first French resort 200 years ago. The town has managed to hold on to the old fashioned charms that are typical of these resorts from another time including a very nice seafront

promenade. Further south, the cliffs of Etretat are expecting us. Coming across these white high cliffs shaped by the winds and the tides that have chiseled the chalk, you understand instantly where the nickname of the Alabaster coast comes from. It would be difficult not to be awe of theses breathtaking cliffs with unlikely shapes that are the birthplace of so many legends. Take the adventure of Arsène Lupin, l'Aiguille Creuse (The Hollow Needle), where Maurice Leblanc turns this imposing rock surrounded by waves in the hiding place of the treasure of the kings of France. We discover this magnificent site during a walk on the trail overlooking the English Channel. However, we do not have the time to embark on a boat trip to admire the spectacle n n n

All or almost all the adventures of the famous Gentleman Burglar are set in the area making it an original guidebook as many of the places described by the author still exist today. On arrival to the banks of the Seine estuary, we discover the two facets of Normandy, separated by few kilometers of the Normandy Bridge. Le Havre, north of the estuary, is an industrial and commercial port devastated in World War II. It was brought back to life thanks to contemporary architects (Perret, New, Niemeyer, among others), so much so that the city is now one of the site listed in UNESCO World Heritage. Let’s not forget that it is here that Monet painted his Impression Soleil Levant as we travel up the Seine in the footsteps of the great painter. There are many locations that are indeed related to the artist along the banks of the river. Starting with Rouen and its cathedral that he painted under the different lights over the course of a day, then Giverny, the house where he spent the later part of his live working on his garden, designed as a beautiful work of art. Back in the estuary, we cross over the Seine and forget about Le Havre and its industries to discover the elegant Normandy that belongs on postcards, with its rolling countryside where speckled cows are grazing, villages with timbered houses and names of cheeses and sea

resorts impregnated of the 19th century atmosphere such as Deauville, Trouville or Honfleur. With Caen behind us, Normandy tells us a very international story. In Bayeux, to start with, where you can admire the famous tapestry that tells us the story of the epic tale of William the Conqueror who invaded England at the birth of the second century. Those that hold a fascination for the medieval adventure will also take the opportunity to go to Falaise and to visit the castle where the future King of England was born. Then as we venture on the coast that stretches between Caen and Cherbourg we dive deep into Contemporary History. The names of towns and villages that we cross, reminds us that it here that D-Day took place and then the battle of

Normandy. Arromanches, Ste Mère Eglise and of course Utah Beach or Omaha Beach are all places that are familiar to us thanks to the pictures and History books. As well as the Caen Memorial, a fascinating Centre on the Second World War and on peace, cemeteries and memorials are many all along our journey. For those amongst you that hold a particular interest in this period, the best time to visit the area is on the 6th of June. Each year, memorial ceremonies bring together veterans of all nationalities and the streets are filled with military uniforms and American jeeps. In addition to these historical sites, the Cotentin peninsula offers many opportunities for hiking in the wooded landscape of the regional park that cuts the peninsula in two, from east to west. During migration, these marshes serve as stopover for birds.

As we reach the western shore of the peninsula, we come across the first view point of the Mont St Michel Bay and in the distance the Chaussey islands. These islets dotted across the sea off the fortified town of Granville are the subject to the most important tides in Europe with differences in levels as much as 15 meters. So sometimes you can count 350 of them at low tide and only 50 at high tide. Only the largest of the islands is inhabited. With the constant work

The Bayeux Tapestry This tremendous linen embroidery was ordered after the Battle of Hastings in 1066 by the Bishop Odo, brother of William the Conqueror, to adorn the Cathedral. Rome and its northern neighbours have often looked in a condescending manner at the capital of the Campania region. Overcrowded, polluted, noisy and even dangerous, these are some of the adjectives that have been associated with the city. The fact remains that unlike the eternal Rome or the elegant Florence, Naples has a more working class feel to it. Rather than seducing you, it provokes you, hustles you, but once you go past this first impression, Naples and its inhabitants opens themselves to the curious visitor. 3 Seasons invites you for a stroll through the street of this city too often overlooked.

t is difficult to imagine today that Naples was once one of the most important cities in Europe. However, back in 1850, it was the 3rd town in Europe in terms of population. Decades later, Naples was a mere shadow of the city that used to compete with Paris and London. Overcrowded, plagues with illnesses, as a result it had turned into a mafia, polluted, corrupted and unhealthy city. Then in the 1990s with the operation Mani Pulite (Clean Hands), Naples started to gain back some of its prestige. This is

The old town of Naples is split in two main areas, separated by the Via Toledo, its main shopping street. On the one hand its historical center, on the other hand the Spanish quarters that stretch to the hill of Romero where the fortress Castel Sant’ Elmo stands. We begin our visit in the historical center where it is easy to get lost with the multitude of churches and palaces. As a matter of fact the streets are so narrowed and the buildings saw tall that it is difficult to find your bearings in this maze of tiny streets lined up with Vespa and laundry drying on the balconies. This is why we choose as our first stopover the Piazza del Gesu Nuovo: the statue that stands

in its midst , the Arrow of Immacolata, with its height of about 30 meters, is used as landmark for tourists and Neapolitans. It was built in 1751 to pay tribute to the victims of the plague. In addition to its extraordinary noisy and restless atmosphere, which is palpable along the Via San Gregorio Armeno with the craftsmen at work in front of their shop, the main attraction of the historical center are the many religious buildings that reflect the devotion of the Neapolitans. The gothic convent of Santa Chiara and the baroque chapel of Sansevero both deserve a visit but if you were to choose only one it would be without a shadow of a doubt the San Gregorio Armeno, probably the most beautiful baroque church in Naples with its profusion of gilded stuccos, frescoes, inlaid wood panels or its paintings. Let’s not miss out on the Cathedral n n n

A few suggestions of visits in Naples and its surrounding area: The Archaeological Museum This museum houses the finest collection of classical archaeology in the world. It was originally built to accommodate the treasures unearthed during the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum. To fully appreciate the richness of the collections, it is advisable to rent the audio guide at the front desk. Open Wednesday to Monday from 9am to 19.30

Teatro San Carlo This theatre, built in the 18th century to compete with the major musical capitals of Italy, is the oldest Italian theatre, and one of the greatest. Its beautiful lyrical program still reflects the expectations of its creator. You can visit it during the day, but if you have the opportunity and you love great music, grab the chance to attend an opera. This is an exceptional experience. More information: www.teatrosancarlo.it

Pompeii and Herculaneum Both cities, although very different (Pompeii was a great city of 25,000 inhabitants, while Herculaneum was a fishing port of 5,000 inhabitants), have suffered the same tragic fate when they were buried by the Vesuvius in 79. Out of this drama were born two unique archaeological sites since the whole of the two cities has been preserved by the rock. Pompeii is 20 km away from Naples and Herculaneum 15 km.

Procida The name of this island might not ring a bell, but it is unlikely that you have not noticed its colorful facades of its delightful port, Marina Corricella, in a movie. The island has in fact served as the backdrop for several shootings, including those of Il postino and the Talented Mr. Ripley. Smallest island in the Gulf of Naples (4 km 2), Procida is still preserved from mass tourism. Lush vegetation makes it an enchanting place. Procida is accessible from Naples: 1 hour by ferry and 30 minutes by hydroplane.

n n n nestled on the Via Duomo. The many centuries of work and destruction have made it lost its gothic harmony and it gives it its disappointing façade, and this gives no hint to the inner wealth such as the beautiful chapel of San Gennaro, patron saint of Naples. Its catacombs are one of its quintessential charms, even if we prefer those of Santa Maria della Sanità, rich in frescoes and mosaics from the 5th to the 18th century. It is around the 13th century, under the influence of the family of Anjou, that Naples gradually left its historical center for the waterfront. In these districts you can perceive the Spanish influence that reminds us that through the 15th to the 18th century, Naples was living under the Aragonese domination. The monuments that date back to this period, with their style reminiscent of the Castilian royal buildings, send us back to the heyday of the city and reminds us that back then it used to compete with some of the most beautiful European cities. The gigantic Piazza del Plebiscito is the perfect testimony of those glorious years. It is bordered on one side by the remarkable royal palace and on the other by the superb gallery Umberto I. Made of iron and glass and with a sun lounge 57 meters high at its center, this mall is the symbol of the Belle Epoque of Naples (Victorian and Edwardian era)

During the day, the crossing of the Via Toledo takes us at the heart of the hustle and bustle of an exuberant city where whispering is not the norm. Today it is lined up with shop windows bearing the major brand names, but this elegant street used to be described, upon its creation in the 16th century, as one of the most beautiful street in Europe. On its western side, it is cut by narrow streets leading to the heart of the Spanish quarter. These districts were, at the time, built to house the Spanish troops based in Naples. Their military function is no longer true and they have become the popular districts of the town center. Although their military origins means that they are based on a military plan with streets intersecting at right-angled, the narrowness of these streets and the slope on the district built on a hillside, give a sense of anarchy and lack of any organization. Once out of this maze, we reach the heights of the hill in front of the Castel Sant 'Elmo. On the roof of this fortress, the bravest will be rewarded of their climbing efforts with a beautiful view over Naples and in the distance, the magnificent scenery of the bay... Other visits in perspective... n

Eating out in Naples: Pizza is one of the most famous dish worldwide. At the time, it originated from the poor city of Naples. On every street corner, one will find authentic pizzerias where handmade pizzas are served in a busy and loud atmosphere. This is one of the Napolitan city’s must-see attractions and should not be missed! Similarly to the rest of Italy, you will also find a wide choice of delicious ice creams throughout Naples. Among many great places, here are two top places to eat out: Otranto located on the Vomero hill and Chalet Ciro situated by the sea in Mergellina.

Tifina Caravansérail d'Arfoud For the love of Morocco An encounter with Pascal Lombard, owner of the campsite Tifina, an enthusiast of the desert and in love with Morocco. To open up a campsite in Morocco when you happen to be a consultant in human resources in France, might not seem obvious. Yet it is the adventure that Pascal Lombard chose for himself back in 2005. Fascinated by Morocco and the desert where he has been visiting for the past 25 years, he decided to open a campsite at the heart of the desert. To do so he bought 3.5 ha of sand and set up the campsite Tifina, it was opened in 2009. The first season makes do without a pool or a restaurant but these were quickly built to solve this problem. Since then, the campsite keeps on improving adding this year a connection to the electric network to supply electricity all day long without having to resort to the use of the generator. Next year (winter 2012 to 2013), a steam bath will open its doors. Part of the success ot the campsite is also due to the quality of service on offer. "Many motorhome congratulate us and tell us that we are the only campsite in Morocco to offer a level of comfort that meets European standards" Pascal admits. But we need to take into account that most people don’t come here for the pool. As a matter of fact, 3 Seasons n° 120 - 34

those that venture into this part of Morocco come for the desert and the dunes of Erg Chebby, about 20 km away. "This is our Eiffel Tower" Pascal smiles. "These dunes stretch over 20 km and some of these dunes rise over 350 meters. Our clients come here to go and admire the sunrise. "On top of the quality of the service and the tranquility found on the campsite and nearby (the campsite is actually well away from any mosques so the call to morning prayer is not heard), the main attraction of Tifina lies in the activities that Pascal has on offer: 4 x 4 excursions, camping in the desert, etc.. Marveld, facilities of unusual quality In the east of the Netherlands, the campsite Marveld has on offer a wide quality of services with many restaurants, a bowling alley or even an indoor water park. 3 seasons invites you on a little visit of one of the best equipped campsites of the network. When discovering the campsite Marveld today, with its indoor and outdoor water parks, its many restaurants, its tennis courts or even its bowling alley, it is hard to imagine that back in 1968 there was only a 17th century farm where the parents of Edwin Bomers (the current owner) decided to open a campsite. Yet everything happened quite quickly, in 1970 the campsite already had an outdoor pool and an ice skating ring. It is, however, during the 1990s, when Edwin took over of the campsite that Marveld went on to another level. An indoor tropical pool was created, then tennis courts and squash courts; to meet with the demands an extra 300 pitches and the opening of several restaurants (a la carte restaurant, crêperie, pizzeria and a grill restaurant where guests cook their own meat and fish at the table). The latest innovation is the Pitch & Putt golf course which will delight the golf

fans. One of the thing that hasn’t changed since the opening is that the campsite is always open in winter. The comfort however has improved as the sanitary facilities are now heated and a large 360 m2 ice rink is set up as soon as the weather allows it. However, if you come to explore the area, you may prefer spring because the region Achterhoek is at its best at that time if you want to take full advantage of the beautiful nature strolling the trails and using bike paths that are to be found the around the campsite. n

At the height of the hippy era, the small island south of England is the witness of the three legendary festivals that took place between 1968 and 1970 with over 600,000 spectators and artists such as Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix or Bob Dylan. The festival was over just after the 1970 edition and it’s not until 2002 that it gets a new lease of life. Since then, the Isle of Wight stage has become again a reference for rock fans with the arrival of groups like The Police, The Rolling Stones and The Who.
