Positive. Easier said than done these days, right? I challenge each and everyone to try! Think Positive-Talk Positive-Feel Positive! Every day I say this at least a dozen times before coming to work or immediately after waking up. Never have I ever… had to say a mantra to myself before! I have always been upbeat, I have always seen the glass half full, I have always started my day with a blank slate and given others the same blank slate, but this year? Woah, not so much. (Don’t hold on to it; Just let it go). Not this year!!! So I am sharing with you what I am doing in ‘22 and maybe providing you with some positive ways to stay positive and keep yourself feeling positive. It is NOT easy, so I

The AbCoaster PS500 puts you on the fast track to great abs! This machine works exactly the opposite from a traditional ab crunch machine. Rather than working your ab muscles from the top down, the AbCoaster® PS500 works from the bottom up, helping you target those hard-to-reach lower abs. Just kneel on the comfortable carriage, and pull your knees up. It’s as simple as that! As you lift, the knee carriage glides along the biometrically-designed curved track, engaging your lower abs first, then the middle and upper region, giving you a complete abdominal workout from the bottom-up. ABS Bench X3 (Location: Second Floor): The All New AbsBench X3 is the most effective and versatile AbsBench ever made. Its dual pivot design makes for 3 benches in one! The all-new construction allows for easier assembly, lower starting weight, and a sturdier bench - Variable resistance with Upper & Lower weight horns - Add up to four 5lb or 10lb plates per post

RANDOM RAMBLINGS: A LIFE LESSON FROM LATIN David Bryngil Associate Director of Campus Recreation and Health Promotion
You can’t miss it on the MSU campus. This phrase is emblazoned on the university’s official shield. But perhaps if iconography isn’t your thing, surely you are familiar with this phrase because of pop culture. Whether you remember it being spoken by Robin Williams on the big screen or read it on a coffee mug, this one simple Latin phrase became ubiquitous in America in the late 20th Century. It is a simple two word phrase from an ancient language that resounds with a powerful meaning that rightfully provokes deep thought in all who speak or read it. Carpe Diem.
English translation…Seize the
day. So, you ask, what place does this have in a campus rec magazine, other than for the author to demonstrate that he survived two years of mandatory high school Latin? Take a moment to ponder those words. Seize the day. The meaning is open to interpretation. Does Carpe Diem mean, grasp the opportunities right in front of you? Does Carpe Diem mean, live every minute of your life to the fullest? Does Carpe Diem mean, be extraordinary in the moment? The answer is “yes” to all of the above and more. The life lesson to be taken from this small but mighty two Latin word phrase is this: Never take the fleeting gift that is

BRIE’S BAKING CORNER: CHOCOLATE CHIP BANANA BREAD Brie Krug Coordinator of Evening Events and Facilities
I, much like everyone else, spent a lot of my time in quarantine baking. My most baked items were chocolate chip cookies and banana bread. I genuinely don’t know why we had so many bananas in the house, since nobody in my family really eats them. But there always seemed to be a fresh bunch after the grocery store run. And then miraculously one would disappear every day until there were four left. All of a sudden when there were four left, everyone would claim they don’t eat bananas. Seems like a coincidence that this recipe calls for exactly four bananas. I took COVID baking one step further! I spent most of quarantine testing various recipes, messing with ingredient amounts, and generally doing anything to find the superior recipe. This banana bread recipe is actually adapted from Dominique Ansel, creator of the Cronut. But I’ve made it so that it only requires one mixing bowl because the lack of motivation to do dishes is real! I Highly encourage you to make the original and the adaptation so you can compare!

soda, cinnamon, salt and baking powder. Note: There are two things I never measure, cinnamon and salt! Salt: do a pinch, cinnamon: stop when you want. I probably add closer to 2 tablespoons of cinnamon. 4. Stir in the melted butter until fully incorporated. Wait for it to cool slightly before mixing in chocolate
melted, plus more for greasing pan •
1 cup chocolate chips
Directions 1.
Preheat the oven to 350°. Grease two loaf pans and set aside. Note: these are really cute if you split them into mini bread tins too!
2.
In a large bowl, mash the bananas with a fork. Add in the eggs and mix.
Add in the sugar, flour, baking
chips. 5.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan (if you want to be like me, portion it out with an ice cream scoop, less mess) and bake until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center of the loaf comes out clean, about 1 hour and 10 minutes. Allow to cool for 20 minutes before slicing.

While there, I was a Graduate Assistant for the the Recreational Life Center on campus as well as the Graduate Assistant for the Caulfield School of Education. What is your favorite memory of MSU Campus Rec? Honestly, my favorite memory of MSU Campus Rec was being involved in every way that I could. Becoming a part of NIRSA as well as ACSM, traveling across the country to various conferences and getting closer to my coworkers/supervisors are some of my absolute favorite memories. I have lifelong friends because of MSU Campus Rec.
