My Oh my, How time flies
It was just the other day when we were making new year resolutions (I wonder how many you ticked off?) and now we're just a few days shy of another new year. This year has been a roller coaster of excitements, lessons and most importantly new beginings. To healthier relationships, friendships, job hunts and many more great -ships you can think of. On to matters at hand, Traveling, Yes. Each and everyone of us has at some point added traveling as one of their hobbies in their CV ( Some still have it) and this never changes no matter how old people grow. We talk about it and how to make your travel life more smooth. In the fashion section, Fred Wanjohi talks about what items you need to pack for that solo trip you've been planing for a while now. Speaking of planning for a traveling trip, We also talk about and show you how you can plan and save up for the trip to that exotic island or beautiful country that you've always wanted to visit. As always, that's not all we have for you. We tell you a bit more about your nails and some problems that they have and what these may indicate for your health. We also escape to Lake Naivasha's Fisherman's camp and tell you what fun activities you can do here for a relatively pocket friendly budget. Do not forget to check out our wide range of reviews starting with CUEA Uni then on to books, series and finally DCEU's Aquaman movie. As always, we can never forget the food lovers out there and we have two fantastic, easy to make recipes with easy to find ingredients. PS : All our previous Magazine issues can be found online on our website, www.campusmag.co.ke or on Issuu.

Fashion Speak PACKING
FOR SOLO TRIPS
AND
My grandma used to say, “Carry everything with you, so that when you arrive, your things arrive too.” When traveling alone, packing light isn’t as important as packing smart. Since travel inconveniences amplify when you’re on your own, you want to prepare for any scenario in your journey. First, the items at the top of your priority list should provide comfort and convenience. Second? Make sure you can singlehandedly manage your luggage for a distance. The key here is being able to keep your hands free, so you can focus on what’s ahead and not what’s weighing you down. Here are some items to help you have an easy journey. Words - Fred Wanjohi (@Ingosialfie)
HEADPHONES Travelling can be a lonely affair and while a good book can be nice company, nothing beats good music. A nice noise cancelling headphone will keep you company for hours with good tunes in your own mental zone.
Large Jewelry Deep V Sequin Shirts Character Ties FOLDABLE DOWN JACKET Another dual-purpose essential? A packable warm jacket which is so compact it can lay flat like an almost paper-thin layer in your suitcase. Or roll it into its pouch and it suddenly doubles as a travel pillow other than keeping you warm when the weather changes.
8 CampusMag
FOLDABLE REUSABLE BAG These are light and tiny that you won’t believe how much they can hold. You can fold it into your pocket and then open it up to put your items in it. Be it shopping or as an extra bag when you have too much souvenirs to carry. The best part, the strap is long enough that you can wear it as a cross-body bag.
Fashion Speak
BACKPACK WITH PADDED STRAPS Two straps are always going to be better than one. Not only does a backpack spread the weight out better, but anything that lets you be hands-free while navigating routes solo is a godsend. Plus, since it counts as a personal item, it adds to your carry-on allotment on flights.
OLD CELL PHONE CASE Leave behind that too-cute phone case and snap on an older, more discreet one. To avoid being a target for thieves when you’re on your own, go low-key with your tech and try to blend in. Also, rubber cases make for better fall protection for your device.
MULTI-PURPOSE SHOES It can be ridiculous to bring five pairs of shoes with you “just in case” on one trip. Limit yourself to about two pairs. One pair of waterproof, durable sneakers and another pair of shoes comfortable enough to use on long walks but can also work when going out to local entertainment spots and eateries.
SCARFS Whether to keep warm, dress up an outfit, cover your head, or use as an extra blanket, a large scarf can serve any number of purposes. You even use them to pad a fragile souvenir.
SUNGLASSES Bring along your singlasses to shade your eyes from direct sunlight when outdoors. You'll be glad you did when it gets too bright in the afternoon.
FLIP FLOPS (SLIPPERS) Throw in a pair of flip flops. Since they’re water resistant, they serve a different purpose and are flat enough to take up minimal room along the side of a suitcase. Besides being useful for days at the beach, they can also protect your feet in the shower or a hostel floor you’d rather not step on.
WRIST WATCH When you're having fun, the sense of time can get diluted and a wrist watch can be handy with a quick glance. It's also useful fo when your phone goes off and you need to keep an accurate sense of time while out.

This month, we have a hangout chat with an upcoming Hip Hop and Trap musician from Zetech University, MacRoyce. He talks to us about his music, life and hopes for the music industry. We had a sit down with him to find out what drives his work.
What Genre of Music Do You Consider Your Music and who inspires your work?
I consider my music as hip hop with a little bit or trap and pop in it. I believe that music is one the things tht us as human beings share in common and brings us together in times of sadness and happiness. So to answer the question as to who inspires my music is basically the people who appreciate and celebrate my music.
What got you into music?
I believe it just gre in me that everytime I happen to see a musician play a piano or any instrument I'm just driven to put words to the mood which is playing.
Do you seek out opportunities to play your music like say for instance, gigs or parties?
Yes I do. The main agenda in making music is to be heard. I have been to a couple of highschools, talent shows and clubs.
What would you consider as the best song that you've done thus far?
I'd go with 'No Mistakes'/ It is a gospel song in my Genesis mitape. Basically, it talks about The God I serve and He never makes mistakes.
Given the opportunity, who would you like to collaborate with?
Locally I'd like to work with Khaligraph, Kevo K-Force, Band Beca and Petra. Internationally though, I'd like to work wih Nasty C, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj.
Do you get nervous during a performance?
Yes I do. They say that the stage is like a court room and the crowd is like a jury. But the moment the music starts, the tension just fades away.

How do you balance music with your studies and other obligations? It is easy for me actually. I have a diary where I balance my day's schedule.
What is the strangest thing that you've heard from a fan at a concert? Ha ha ha, This is funny... Take Your clothes off.
What would you tell people who want to do music?
If it's really music that you want to do. Then follow your passion.
What songs do you perform and do you do music covers.
Hip hop. No I don't do music covers. I believe in my own content.
What would you like your fans to remember about you?
As a nice guy. Calm and always ready to help when needed. The guy whose music touched a lot of people and ended a war against drugs.

How to Travel Anywhere ? Words - Fred Wanjohi
So, you want to travel the world. You want to burst your bubble, meet new people, experience a completely different world to your own. You want to drink from a coconut, reach new heights trekking among the clouds, dance the night away in a salsa bar, talk till the sun comes up with someone you met just a few hours before. But you can’t afford it. And you have no idea how you ever could.

Trust me – memories beat pizzas. Sunsets beat sneakers. Every single time. (P.S. the needs vs. wants list also works wonders while packing.)

Banking and budgets
Here’s a simple but important one: move money into your Savings Account immediately after you’re paid. (If you don’t already have one, open a Savings Account!) Once you’ve calculated how much money you’re going to need for your trip, set yourself monthly targets. It’s very satisfying watching your money grow, and it works better to plan these things instead of just moving some money now and then.

Keep your eyes on the prize. Keep your dream destination in mind as you save.
Another important one: have a weekly budget. And stick to it – be strict with yourself. I break my spending into weekly amounts, and then have a mental daily spend. If I know that I’m only allowed to spend Ksh 300 each day, I feel guilty when I go over it. Equally, if I spend less than 1 50 a day (which is possible with meal planning and homebrewed coffee), I can carry the extra over to the next day, and it feels good to have 1 50 to play with. Allow for your daily spend to be higher on
Keep your eyes on the prize
I have a friend who was also saving for travel at the same time as me, and when I moaned about not spending money, or even about hating my job, he would say: “Keep your eyes on the prize”. Transport
Do you take public transport? Have a car? Could you wlak or cycle instead? Think of the easiest way you could use to get around to your school or workplace and use it. You will end up saving a lot of the money you use as transport. Also consider peak traffic times and see if you can't arrive before it starts or after it abates.
Socialising
As well as redefining luxury, you might want to redefine fun. That’s not a subtle way to say you should be boring, but you can get creative with how you use your free time.
There’s nothing more magical than saving up for, and then loving every second of your next adventure.
Here’s some examples: Invite your friends over for a home-cooked meal and BYO booze instead of paying hiked up prices at a bar – you get to choose your own music at home, winning! Instead of going to the cinema, search through Netflix and your local movie dealer. Make popcorn at home – listening to popcorn pop in the microwave is way more satisfying than paying Ksh 1 000 plus for a trip to the cinema anyway. If the weather is good, Go chill in the park with a football, or take a walk with someone and have a conversation. And you might need to recruit allies for this endeavor, because there will still be plenty of Facebook events tempting you to spend. But it’s still possible to participate and not go overboard. Have three glasses of wine instead of 1 0 (or enter more appropriate numbers – but ensure it’s a reduction).

When forced, you realize that you don’t NEED (there’s that NEED/WANT mentality popping up again) to spend money to have fun. And it’ll all be worth it in the end. There’s nothing more magical than saving up for, and then loving every second of your next adventure.

CM'S GUIDE TO CATHOLIC UNIVERSITYOF EASTAFRICA
CUEA was founded by the regional ecclesiastical authority known as Association of Member Episcopal Conferences of Eastern Africa (AMECEA) on 3 September 1 984 in Nairobi Kenya as a Graduate School of Theology, under the name the Catholic Higher Institute of Eastern Africa (CHIEA). The main campus is located on Magadi road in Langata, Nairobi Kenya. The University campus is also hostMuigai of IBM Research Africa offices. Words Bythe: Ivy Words - Sawo
What It Feels like to Go Here CUEA lies on a beautiful campus, deep in the heart of the Langata, Nairobi. Inside the walls of the university, you will find it has turned into home for a lot of students from a lot of backgrounds, both local and international. This university offers more than just scenery, though. CUEA provides its students a city with student groups, community, great academics and of course, a great football team.
At CUEA, some of the countless things to do include getting involved with some of many student groups dotting the campus, spending time improving your smarts with great academics and attending loads of sports events, ranging from recreational sports to inter-campus sports events. In addition, students here echo the fact that CUEA is a pro at creating and engaging, home-like environment and solid community for students who attend the university.
Where We Hang CUEA students don’t limit themselves to the classroom. Students here love football games and all other sportsrelated activities, but they also enjoy taking time to appreciate the little things in life. Students spend their free time grabbing coffee with pals, traveling and exploring the outdoor scenery that the nearby national park has to offer. “A lot of my friends play rugby, go to the Nairobi national park, go to coffee shops in Karen and lately my friends and I have liked taking day/weekend trips to different towns to hike and camp,” said second year Ben Otieno. Whether they find themselves indoors or outdoors, many CUEA students share the common favorite activity of building and investing in their community of friends. Student Reviews “I’ve really appreciated the intentionality of community building. I was a little scared of how friendly people were at first because I didn’t know how to make sense of it. But what I learned really quickly was people just really, genuinely want you to feel welcome and to help you understand how things work at CUEA and how to be a good citizen of the school.” — Paul “My whole life, I have gone to international schools and have been in class from everywhere around the world. I wanted to find a similar environment also for campus. After the first day and the [International Student Orientation] meeting...I already had the feeling I was in a place that could be a good fit for me.” – Marco
Q&A 1. How much are students partying? “It’s really relaxed, whether you want to go out or not no one judges each other. There’s no pressure to party because there are lots of other things to do,” Ian. “Students at CUEA are pretty focused on their academics and long-term goals. However, there are plenty of students who go out Thursday–Sunday. There are a lot of campuses nearby, so the bar scene is pretty exciting on the mainline. While I would say academics are the primary goal, students also know how to enjoy themselves,” Michael 2. What will you get in trouble for at your school? “One thing that this school is really big on is class attendance. Some kids, though, simply scan into the class and leave the building before class starts, making it probably the thing most students get in trouble for here. Another thing that will get you in trouble is the dresscode. It is quite strict here and you need to adhere to it” Nicole. 3. What would you tell incoming freshman about your school? “One of the things people said when I first came in my visit is CUEA is one big family and after being here for a year that is the truth,” Benjamin . “I would tell freshman to make sure they prioritize academics here from the beginning because the classes are very fast paced. Freshmen should really make an effort to become friends with anyone and everyone in their classes too. It becomes so useful to have friends in all aspects of campus as you get older,” Laeticia.
Awesome Alumni Members of CUEA alumni span across career fields ranging from entertainment industry to politics. Notable alumni include: Stella Kilonzo, former executive director of the Capital Markets Authority of Kenya, Eve D'Souza, media personality, George Khaniri, senator, Vihiga County, Vanessa Mdee, singer just to mention a few of the awesome personalities the institution has produced.
Getting In Like all competitive schools, to get into CUEA, you need to have impressive grades. You can join through KUCPS or PSSP. Other requirements are KCSE certificate or past academic records from recognized examination bodies. Top 3 Faculties Faculty of Theology Faculty of Law Faculty of Education

Dealing With Campus
%&13&44*0/
Depression is a serious and important issue on campuses across the country. Students are susceptible to depression due to potential factors such as stress with school, work, or finances, or possibly feeling isolated after moving away from friends and family. Symptoms of depression include: a depressed mood (feeling sad, empty, or hopeless); lack of interest or pleasure in activities that you used to enjoy; fluctuations in weight; difficulty with sleeping; low energy; feeling worthless; feeling guilty; difficulty concentrating; difficulty making decisions; feeling irritable; feeling restless and/or feeling suicidal. These symptoms can make it difficult to function in day to day life and as symptoms become increasingly unmanageable and you may even begin to feel suicidal. Anyone who is feeling suicidal needs to know that this is a serious symptom of depression and that you are not alone and do not need to cope with suicidal feelings alone. With help you can get relief and feel Engage in Psychotherapy Psychotherapy can help individuals identify what issues are contributing to their symptoms of depression and how best to address these issues. It can also help to reduce symptoms of depression and also prevent future episodes of depression. Many campuses provide on campus counseling centers for students to access at little to no cost. Therapists on campuses will often have been hired for their ability to connect with and support campus students. Explore Medication Options If you are experiencing symptoms of depression it is generally a good idea to talk with your primary care provider about this. Your doctor can help you rule out or treat any medical issues that may be contributing to symptoms of depression. Nurse practitioners, doctors, and psychiatrists can all prescribe medication to treat depression. Sometimes psychotherapy is not enough for more severe forms of depression and your doctor may decide that medication would be helpful. Fortunately, advances in medicine have provided a number of medications that can be effective in treating depression.

Practice Mindfulness Exercises Mindfulness can be defined as staying aware and conscious in the present moment. While it sounds simple, being mindful is not easy, it can take a great deal of practice to develop the ability to be conscious and connected in the present moment. Campus students may find themselves managing so many different commitments (classes, work, friends) at a time that they have a hard time staying focused without thinking about what they need to do next. And it can seem almost impossible to imagine staying in the present moment when managing frequent distractions on our ever present phones. Spend Time in Nature It may seem simplistic but spending time in nature has been shown to reduce symptoms of depression. Even a 30 minute walk in a green setting has been shown to have an impact. Many campuses are located in beautiful settings with easy access to walking or hiking trails. Finding time to sneak away even once a week could have a significant impact on your mental health. And if you are in school in a big city where you don’t get much connection to nature, it may be even more important for you to find time to make a trip to the country, the coast, or the mountains every once in awhile just to get a dose of what nature has to offer. An added benefit of spending time in nature is that usually while in nature people are doing some form of exercise, such as walking, hiking, running or swimming which also helps reduce depression.
Health
Exercise Exercise has countless physical health benefits such as strengthening your heart, lowering blood pressure, reducing body fat, and improving strength. Exercise has also been shown to have numerous mental health benefits including reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. Campus students can also benefit from the impact that exercise has on the brain including improved memory and thinking skills. Exercise can be anything that you enjoy doing, so if you don’t feel like hitting the gym or going for a run then call a friend and go for a walk or get a group of friends together for a group sport. Connecting with friends while walking or playing a game will take your mind off the exercise, and will give you the added benefit of social support.
Set Healthy Boundaries Sometimes when we feel worthless or guilty we have a hard time saying no, or setting boundaries in our best interest, because we are more worried about what the other person wants or needs than what we want or need. In campus we might feel pressure to say yes to everything due to a sense of pressure to “enjoy every moment” or “seize the day.” We may feel we need to say yes to every study group, every party, or every time a friend asks us for help with something. However, this approach can backfire. In an effort to try to enjoy and do everything, we may be left unable to enjoy or do anything. Setting good boundaries is like setting good goals. It can be hard to disappoint people by saying no or setting a boundary especially if we already feel inexplicably worthless or guilty. However, many people find Strengthen your Social Connections that when they push themselves to say no or set a boundary, even Putting time and energy into meeting new people and developing though it feels hard in the moment, they experience a boost in selffriendships is important for your mental health. Social support minimizes esteem and feelings of self-worth after doing so. the effects of stress on depression for campus students. Depression thrives in conditions of social isolation and loneliness. Breaking this We hope you have found this list of how to deal with depression in isolation and reaching out to others for support is a powerful way in campus helpful. Please remember that depression is a common and which to fight depression. So even if it feels hard, in fact especially treatable mental health condition. Like many of you out there, the increase in cost of living and decrease of our valuable ringgit is painful. This is a somewhat nice ay of saying, "I work hard and want to play hard but life is expensive and towards the end of the month instant noodles and TV series marathons become our best friends" because lets face it, it's easier to save money at home and adult-ing didn't come with a blank cheque. Even more so, we have to make sure that the consumption decisions we make will help us stretch our ringgit all the further. Here are five top money-wasters and how to counter it:
2 Cable TV
Before horror strikes you, tke a minute to think about it. Every other household is subscribed to cable TV service such as GoTV, DSTV, Netflix, Showmax, ViuSasa etc with too many channel packages that go unwatched. You could save money by buying into cheaper alternatives.
22 CampusMag
Counter This: While you may or may not assume we're suggesting illegal downloads, We;d actually like to recomend better alternatives such as Zuku that gives you free cable TV when you install their internet services. It's the best alternative in the market so far and we;d recomend it or any related services that you may know of.
2 Dining Out
Advice
As eating is a great pastime everywhere in the world, there is no doublt that the food scene is a booming industry with brunch cafes, burger joints, hipster eateries and a plethora of restaraunts opening on a monthly basis all over the city. Counter this: Instead of eating out with your friends, stretch your shillings and enjoy picnics, pot luck dinners and put aside a set budget to try new dining places. We know, we know, the temptation to indulge in ice-crean and chocolate for the third time this week is STRONG.
3
Gym and Fitness Classes
With intense eating comes intense weight and the need to fight it off and work towards a healthy and wholesome lifestyle will be undoubtedly strong. However, this is only true if your willpower is stronger because some of us pay for gyms and utilize the sauna moe than the equipment [Guilty! tedeng tedeng tedeng] Counter this: Forget the expensive gym fees and scour the internet for exercise videos an programs. better yet, grab a buddy and plot out a schedule that switches up between workouts at home and the great outdoors. Whether it's a walk in the park, a hike up a local hill or joging in the morning, it's healthy, great for the soul and most importantly, free.
4 Online Shopping
This one is a true killer, time and agan. I know too many of us are guilty of spending way too much time on online shopping sites and facebook shopping groups, often picking up items you wouldn'thave a need for. This is especialy true when online sites offer fabulous discounts, voucher codes and the likes of it. If you don't haethe time and energy to hit the mall or flea market and purchase it, then chances are you don't really need it. Counter this: If you must shop online, allocate a budget and learn to bargain hunt. Shop during festive periods and keep an eye out for good sales. the danger of online shopping is that you at times you are often required to spend with your credit card and buy more than necessary. ugh, terrible.
5
Drinks
We all love a good night out but when you're trying to save, entertainment drinks is a big money waster. Counter This: Instead of hitting high-end speakeasies, try a house part with low end liquor and wine, you'll be suprised at how much you'll be saving.

Chill Spot t’s been 1 0 years since Iron Man inaugurated the era of the modern superhero movie, but in 201 8, the genre entered its adolescence a few years ahead of schedule. Infinity War flirted with nihilism like a teen who’s just read his first Sartre, and Deadpool 2 tested boundaries like a kid who’s just realized he can curse in front of his parents. Venom was a mall goth, fashionably angsty but unable to hold the pose, while Ant-Man and the Wasp crouched behind the bleachers, getting high and mumbling something about the “quantum realm.”

Directed by James Wan and written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Will Beall, Aquaman is nominally part of the DC Extended Universe. But apart from a passing mention of Justice League’s big bad, you’d never know this is a world where Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman exist. When Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) finds out that the kingdoms of the sea, home to his exiled mother, Atlanna (Nicole Kidman), and the land, home of his lighthouse-keeper dad (Temuera Morrison), are about to go to war, he doesn’t pick up the Batphone and get a busy signal. He’s told he’s the only one who can stop the coming conflict, and though he’s reluctant to bear the burden, he never tries to shift it. The Kingdom of Atlantis’ hostility to the surface world is ostensibly sparked by humans’ misuse of the sea: The opening strike, authorized by the ruthlessly ambitious King Orm
(Patrick Wilson), is a series of tidal waves that returns to the land all the trash with which we have littered the ocean. But Orm’s goal is a simpler, more elemental one: power. He fakes a pre-emptive strike by a stolen submarine, commandeered by the high-tech pirate, Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), then uses the supposed provocation to force the other kingdoms to fall in line. Arthur is the first-born son of Atlantis’ former queen, and therefore its rightful king. But he’s also an exile, a foreigner, and worse, at least as far as the Aryan-looking Orm is concerned, a “half-breed.” For Mera (Amber Heard), the princess who is betrothed to Orm but is secretly working against him, that makes Arthur the perfect “bridge between land and sea”—not only Atlantis’ true ruler but a chosen one who can unite the worlds. Doing so involves a prolonged quest for a sacred trident that takes him to strange terrains and the remnants of crumbled civilizations, through combats with ancient monsters, and to a final battle in which massive warships explode in slow motion as smaller craft dart through their wreckage. All of which is to say that if Aquaman is not the best comic book movie of 201 8, it is at the very least the best DC movie of the year. There are parts of Aquaman that are so wonderfully strange that it’s astonishing to see them in a franchise blockbuster. It’s like watching Jupiter Ascending or Valerian and the City of a Thousand
Planets but with a full house rather than three people who have inadvertently wandered into the wrong theater. What makes the film passably entertaining is that director James Wan throws astonishing amounts of action at the wall, and much of it sticks (though not always together). There’s entertainment in watching something so outrageously over-the-top, exploding in such strange ways. Just when you think you have a handle on it, something bizarre will happen. Nicole Kidman defending her baby son by taking out a death squad, say, or villain Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, underserved) inexplicably detouring to the North Sea (the film’s geography is deeply non-specific). Wan not only embraces the inherent silliness of a hero whose signature power is talking to fish; he revels in it, finding the childlike awesomeness at its core. You can still see every plot beat coming from miles away, but it feels like destiny rather than repetition, the fulfillment of a promise every movie makes and few deliver on. XIAOMI w e i v e R M i- 8
Review By : Cliff Omondi
We did a reiew of Xiaomi redmi 5 in our August Issue and one thing we noted was that no one does more phone releases per month than Xiaomi. Now while this clouds the market and confuses the consumers like you, The Xiaomi Mi 8 is yet one of the best phones produced by the company. The Mi 8 does have more than a whiff of iPhone XS about it - but Xaiomi has at least mixed things up on the design front with a wide choice of colours and comes at a bargain price of just Ksh 39,000. The phone utilizes Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 Octa Core with up to 2.8GHz frequency for the CPU. What this means is you can play BIG, heavy games and watch videos smoothly. 1 2MP and 20MP AI cameras let you take sharper more vibrant photos anywhere anytime and the fingerprint and facial recognition sensors add a level of security only matched by Samsung's and apple's top tier phones.
Design With a fingerprint sensor located smugly at the back, it's slightly recessed to make it easier to find by feel and superfast. The notch uptop makes space for extra face scanning hardware, so you can unlock with your phone with your face instead of your thumb. The Gorilla glass and metal sandwich design is otherwise familiar, with rounded corners to sit comfortably in your hand. Flip over to the front and the phone unlocks nearly instantly. Okay, only if you've set up the face unlock feature but you probably will because it's super convenient and quick. Yes, it works in the dark and will also make sure to check if you have your eyes open, it won't unlock the phone in your sleep. The 3.5mm jack is missing. The USBC port is centered on the bottom, the loudspeaker is to its right and behind the other grille is the primary mic. There's an extra mic on top and that's all there is up there - no infrared emitter. Camera : Double Vision

There is a 1 2MP, f/1.8 main sensor with optical image stabilisation and dual-pixel autofocus for the back camera section and a 20MP f/2.0 front cam for taking selfies and self recording. With impeccable detail, low noise and ample contrast colours. Exposure is almost always handled well, and while HDR effects can be to dialed down in settings for fine-grain control over your shots. The camera doesn't falter the minute the sun goes down, either and shots are largely clean and free from blur if you stand still before pressing the shutter button. Display Xiaomi UI borrows heavily from iOS. With square icons, even the pre-installed wallpapers will look overly familiar to anyone coming from an Apple handset. The optional full-screen gestures are near-identical to the ones seen on the iPhone XS. A swipe up from the bottom of the screen goes home, a swipe and hold shows your currently open apps, and a swipe from the side goes back. These are handy enough, and free up space where the
onscreen buttons would be, but they also make it tricky to activate Split view or wake the Google Assistant. Our Take The Mi8 falls short by omitting the headphone jack and memory slot but other than that, it gives top brands a run for their money and we definately recomend this phone to anyone.

Recipes ROSEMARY CHICKEN CURRY
There’s a hundred different ways to make a good curry, but every good curry doesn’t need a ton of ingredients. This super simple Rosemary Chicken Curry is a flavour bomb that is sure to become one of your favourites too!

1. Heat oil in a pan and add the onions. Once they turn translucent, add the garlic and stir for 1 -2 minutes. 2. Add the tomato paste and cook it for 2-3 minutes. Add the tomatoes, paprika, chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, salt, rosemary and water and stir. Cover the pot with a lid and let cook for 5-7 minutes or until oil starts to ooze out from the tomatoes. 3. Add the chicken and stir. Let cook for another 1 0-1 5 minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with a side of steamed rice
MATUMBO WET FRY (TRIPE)
In Kenya, matumbo (tripe) is very affordable and it is actually really delicious if done well. Matumbo wet fry is often served with Ugali. This recipe requires you to boil the matumbo for 3-4 hours or until tender, but if you are in a hurry, you can use a pressure cooker and that will take you less than half an hour.
-Ingredients
To boil the meat: 500 gms Matumbo (tripe), cleaned thoroughly and chopped into pieces 2 tbsp ginger-garlic, minced + 1 tsp Salt to taste 2 tbsp oil 1 onion, chopped 1 /4 cup coriander stems, chopped 3/4 cup tomatoes, crushed 1 tsp tomato paste Coriander leaves, for garnishing For the Ugali, 3 cups water 1 1 /2 cups Maize Meal
-Instructions
1. To boil the matumbo: Boil water in a heavy bottomed pot. Once the water comes to a boil, add matumbo pieces, ginger, garlic and salt. Boil for 3-4 hours or until the tripe is tender. 2. In a pan, heat oil. Add onions and cook until translucent. Add ginger, garlic and coriander stems and stir for 30 seconds. 3. Add tomatoes, tomato paste, matumbo pieces and salt and stir. Cook for 8-1 0 minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with Ugali. 4. For the Ugali: Bring the water to boil in a pot/sufuria. Add 1 /2 cup maize meal to the boiling water. Adding a little bit of the meal to the water ensures that the water starts to roar which makes the perfect ugali. Stir using a wooden spatula and try to break any lumps apart. 5. Add the remaining flour and get stirring. Using the spatula, smoothen out any lumps that may have formed. If the ugali is not hard enough, add more flour. Lower the heat and keep working the ugali against the sides of the pot, getting rid of any lumps and also making sure it is evenly cooked. 6. Once cooked, mould it using the spatula and serve with the Matumbo wet fry.

HowTo Bounce Back From Gels In the age of gels, stronger tips have never been more coveted. Whether a UV-cured manicure left your nails cracked and brittle or they just need some TLC, you've come to the right place. Maggie Ninno tells us more.

Making Fake NailsLook Real
Artificial nails are a great way to achieve elegant-looking hands without bi-weekly trips to a nail salon. However, artificial nails can sometimes look just that artificial. Fortunately, there are some steps you can take to achieve a naturallooking manicure at home using artificial nails. Choose your nail color. Decide the kind of look you hope to achieve with your artificial nails. Bold hues and designs draw attention to nails, while neutral tones soften and downplay the look of your nails. A French manicure most closely resembles what your nails naturally look like unpolished.
Nail Care Tips
1. To whiten your nails and remove any yellowness, try using white toothpaste and a toothbrush to scrub your nails. Then rinse with warm water. 2. Use a soft sanding block on and around the nail and cuticle area to shape and exfoliate. 3. If your nails are on the short side, it's fine to go with slightly softer square shape for a deliberately strong mood. As nails grow longer, round off more, eventually ending with a more oval to almond shape, which helps make fingers and hands look more elegant and elongated.
Cut and file nails to match your natural nail. Shorter nails look more realistic, as natural nails are difficult to maintain at longer lengths. Cut your artificial nails to a length that conforms with your natural nails. Notice if the tips of your nails are naturally rounded or square. File your

The first time people get drunk is usually when they do the crazie st things. It's that time when you don't really know how much alcohol you can handle and you don't know what to expect when the liquor hits your brain, which means that pretty much anything can happen. This time, we brought you a collection of misadventures of first time drunks. If you have ever been so drunk that you paid your spouse for having sex with you, you probably need to stop drinking. This Whisper confession makes it sound like the person who wrote it thought they were potentially having sex with a prostitute instead, which makes us wonder if this is something that's happened before. Although the dude genuinely seems shocked about paying his girrlfriend 500 after sex, sometimes we learn things from our drunken selves that seriously disturb us. Regardless, this is a cringeworthy confession about the dange rs of drinking with a loved one, or more like the dangers of drinking too much when a loved one is present. Now, the only question remaining is what the spouse thought of this generous "gift?" “I don’t drink, but I once showed up to class so visibly stoned that my professor (jokingly?) asked if I was high as I struggled through answering a stupid simple question. I panicked and responded, ‘No, are you?'” I went out for my friends birthday. On the way to the club I threw up in the Uber. In my blackout state I knew I could not afford the fee for puking in an Uber so I threw up into my romper. I went to the club till 2am and lost all my cards. When I got back to campus, I realized I couldn’t get into my dorm so I went to my friends. I sat on her floor for an hour and cried while looking up at the ceiling. She asked me what I was doing, my response was 'looki ng for Jesus' Something that always happens when you get drunk is that you're likely to also get really hungry. There's something about alcohol that just makes you want to eat. And if it's dinner time and you've got food available, you're going to make yourself a plate of somet hing that you can chow down on. In this case, though, this guy thought that the laptop looked a lot like a plate (or maybe he didn't want to bother with actually finding a plate) and just served dinner right on that. Which is definitely not a good idea. The best part, though? His mother watched these shenanigans without saying a word, although it's likely that she got a good laugh out of it: who wouldn't? Please Remember to Have Fun Responsibly this Holiday Seaso and send us confessions of your Misadventures to the email below. Have a Merry Christmass and a Happy New Year
