editorial “The art of love is largely the art of persistence.” – Albert Ellis I find that February is quite a peculiar month if you ask me. In between having a very curious number of days and being considered the month of love as Valentine's day falls in it too. It is quite short and for some reason it makes people forget the resolutions they made just a month before. But. It nurtures one important thing better than any other month, The heart. We all know the heart wants what it wants and all this is cemented by one important adult tradition - SEX. Love sure makes the world go round, but sex, that is the fuel that drives it. In this months edition, we talk about sex on campus. The ups, the downs, the experiments, and the totally undefined and unknown realms. How all this relates to love and emotions-or lack thereof. However, that is not all, we have seen one of the hottest summers ever and our staff writer - Ninno - talks about how to dress for hot weather and still look cool and presentable. We introduce two completely new sections featuring awesome Instagram pages of people from Campus whom we think you should follow, not only for the beauty of their work but also for the heart of it and one called Campus Talk where we basically - well, Talk. As always, that's not all we have planned for you, we show you the most beautiful romantic spots to visit in and around Nairobi with bae for a comfortable budget and also talk about your health in campus and how to get the most out of it. All work but no play makes Jack something something, I forget. Well, the brain needs to be entertained frequently and we do wonderful book and series reviews and top it off with a movie that is just to die forfiguratively. But that's not all we review, we also do a uni review of TUK and top it off with recipes to some food we think you'll love. Gadget lovers you are not left out as we have amazing gadget reviews at awesome prices. I could go on an on but that won't leave you much time to read through the magazine, So allow me to leave you to it. PS: All our previous Magazine issues can be found online on our website, www.campusmag.co.ke or on Issuu through bit.ly/campusv1 (v2/V3/v4,v5,v6,v7) As Always, Dream BIG, Work Hard and Stay Focused .. It's Summer Time ! Fashion Speak
Words : Maggie Ninno
I know many ladies who wear only casual garments in their everyday lives. Sure, you can keep the your look more classy, but the overall spirit can be casual and fun. I hear lots of women who say that casual is something sloppy, slouchy and baggy. Believe it or not, but there are many ways to look both casual and stylish. If you do not believe me, then you better have a look through this compilation and let me know your thoughts by mailing us at infor@campusmag.co.ke. This season’s fashions include striking stripes, bold and bright floral and ethnic prints. Striped accessories and shoes are a great addition to a plain colourful dress. Simple bracelets and bright earrings will add colour to all areas of the body. Make sure bags are big enough to carry all your travel essentials in but small enough not to be a burden. Sunglasses are an essential for every woman during summer. Not only are they practical but they are now available in such vast styles that choosing a pair to match your outfits is a breeze and the fact that sunglasses are quite cheap, you can have a different pair for each outfit if need be.

Fashion Speak White Tees Whether paired with jeans, cargo shorts or underneath a lightweight blazer, the crisp white Tee is always style moment for men. Cargo Shorts The go-to’s for the block party or family cookout, cargo shorts are always a must have in the summer for men. Always comfortable, cool and fresh, there’s really nothing else a guy could ask for during the summer months. Plus, they look better the older they get. Low Top sneakers Low top sneakers are an important staple in presenting effortless style moments in the summer. There isn't one outdoor occasion we won't wear them too. #Facts. Summer Hats Hats of all sorts are very important to the Black male’s summer style. But the most popular styles, the fitted caps, straw fedoras and bucket hats, are always a hit each time summer comes around. Shades No outfit is complete in the summer without a pair of stunner shades. Finding the pair that works can be challenging, but once you find them, you'll be set for life.

Beautiful The Bold & The
This month, we have a chat with the Gorgeously beautiful Cynthia Imoli from Multimedia university. She is a professional model with a few accolades to her hat which include being second runners up to Miss Multi-Media University as a fresher, Miss Diva Nairobi and also being featured as cover of Pulse Magazine (and CampusMag). We talk to her about modelling as a career choie and what it takes to thrive in it. Words : Wycliffe Sawo
1.Tell us about Yourself My name is Cynthia Imoli. I am a part time model and a stylist as well. I have this passion for modelling and fashion that's so inbuilt in me. 2. When did you discover your love for modelling and what has been your experience thus far? Modelling has been my passion ever since I was young and i remember back in highschool i used to write articles about what i would want to do and I would refer myself as Cynthia D'diva. It did drive me alot because my friends used to believe in me because I had the walk, the height and the body. So when I joined the university that's when I took modelling serious and competed for Miss Multimedia University when I was a fresher. I managed to scoop the 2nd runner-up. I really believed in myself and knew I was going to win but it didn't turn out the way I thought. But then I didn't give up. I went ahead to try a certain competition called Miss Diva that is that few counties hold. So I competed for Miss Diva Nairobi and managed to take the crown. It was easy but I knew what I wanted and upped my game. There after I got a chance to be featured on pulse magazine as the cover girl. It felt nice because that just a starting point on the modelling industry. I went ahead and involved myself in several events and high fashion and modelling became my paycheck, in that I used to pay my bills with what I used to earn. 3. Has your perception of the modelling industry changed over time? I would say modelling is a good course. There are different types of models i.e commercial models, pageantry models, high fashion etc. From there you get to examine yourself what are you really good at, it makes you grow because it not only entails beauty, height and body goals but also your intelligence and we get that from pageants alot. You get to show people more than just what they can see but
also your intelligence. The problem comes when people have different opinions about modelling because of maybe what they have experienced or some negative feedback from different people. But I believe it depends on what you feel is right and what's good for you. 4. What is your greatest strength, as a model? I am flexible, hard worker, I search for the event's because i am a freelance model, a go-getter because I go for what i want nomatter the barriers or what people think. My ability to deal with different people and situations. And most of all a strong believer of myself. 5. Who is your mentor in the modelling career? My greatest mentor has been Tyra Banks. This is because I like her free spirit, courage and the lava walk she pulls out when on runway. She bubbles me alot whenever I see a clip of her catwalking and makes me want to be better. That is the kind of of feeling I get when I'm on stage "Tyra Banks feeling". 6. Lets Talk about your beauty regimen. How do you keep your hair and skin healthy? Mostly my hairstyle is usually natural. I normally treat my hair after a duration of 3 weeks just to make sure it doesn't have breakage and giving it good maintenance. About my skin, It's usually good to know your skin type so that you know which products to buy. For skin care products I use bio oil. I also take a lot of water, fruit's and some excercise because it really works and makes my skin perfect. I always moisturize my skin. 7. What does love mean to you? Love is the art of understanding someone no matter what and a condition whereby the happiness of another person is essential to your own. 8. Do you think the internet plays a huge part in the modelling industry? Modelling industry is very wide. It also involves fashion which plays a big part in shaping our lives and the society. Models help in playing
the roles in the industry to project their visions so that the people can interpret on ideas. Models also play useful role in the society because they make household names out of many people and products that so many wouldn't know about or experiment on. So yes, the internet plays a huge part in the modelling industry because that's where you get to see different models on advertisements, billboards, other commercials and runway shows. You get to see different visions and so many different styles from the designers reflecting our own perspectives, peoples opinions and preferences and basically that constant need for change. 9. Name three things on your bucket list? My bucket list is full of so many dreams to be accomplished... mentioning the few would be: *Have a contract for billboards. *Work with an international agency. *Build own brand. 1 0. What next for Cynthia Imoli? There's so much in-store. Also am working on something but I would prefer it to be a surprise but soon it will be out. 1 1. Which three Instagram accounts should we be following? Get me @cynthiaimoli Get to learn more about skincare and makeup. @makeupbyrose Get to learn on how she (MaryneKeseri) became a young entrepreneur. @keseriheadwraps 1 2. Parting shot. There's nothing wrong with making a living as a model. Just make sure you are doing the right thing and follow your dreams. It's never easy but you can make it if you believe in yourself. Forget about the negative opinion and take it as a lead. Let it drive you to what you yearn for and go for it. Be firm in your decisions. NEVER GIVE UP.

The Legal
o ‘cohabit’ according to section 2 of the 201 4 Marriage Act means to live together in an arrangement in which an unmarried couple agree to live together in a long-term relationship that in so many ways resembles a marriage. Cohabitation relationships involve a shared household between intimate partners and
Words : Anne Kimani
have characteristics in common with marriages e.g. a gender division of labour in the household and sexual exclusivity. Most University students tend to live with each other without really considering the legal consequences of their relationship in the long run. While it is never a bad idea to cohabit, it is equally important to 'Know what You're getting yourselves into'.
Feature
THE CONFUSION BETWEEN LOVE AND SEX DUE TO ADDICTIVE SEXUAL PROWESS.
S
ome of the reasons campus students cohabit include:
1. The need for the couple to get to know if they are compatible or not for marriage by living as husband and wife once they move in together. 2. Some find it hard to live apart because of the strong physical intimacy between each other. 3. The confusion between love and sex due to the addictive sex prowess. Even when a relationship is going wrong they tend to convince themselves that they are doing fine using sex as a determinant 4. Some cohabit for economic and financial reasons in essence to cut cost on paying rent for two apartments when they spend most of their time in either home. 5. Some claim that male students are not allowed to enter female hostels and so they opt for accommodation off campus.
CampusMag 13
Feature
These among others are the main reasons why campus students of the opposite sex in an intimate relationship agree to live with each other. Among the ladies mostly, the need for companionship and fear of being lonely becomes so strong among them that they begin to think that they cannot wait for marriage before living together and this results to insecurity. Students in campuses have the freedom to live independently with fellow students of the opposite sex outside marriage. Cohabiting, however, has been associated with a number of problems including sexually transmitted diseases and HIV and AIDS, abortions, sexual abuse and violence, partner abuse, low academic performance, increased cost of medical care, unwanted pregnancies among others. Although cohabitation was initially not recognized in Kenya, courts had developed the common law principle of presumed marriage, conferring some marital rights and duties on cohabiting couples meeting certain criteria. The exact criteria vary but judges generally weigh the length of cohabitation, whether there are children and whether the man and woman hold themselves as husband and wife. The presumption of marriage can occur to as soon as six months into cohabiting and living as husband and wife and therefore before couples cohabit they should take into consideration what they hope to achieve at the end of it all. Cohabitating has faced religious condemnation and despite this, they appear to be now very common among youths. It is now becoming an acceptable norm among the youth. People who may not have the means to carry out traditional or civil marriages have also taken advantage of this state of affairs to engage in these unions to substitute a formal marriage. In light of this cohabitation is becoming more prevalent and cannot be ignored and rather should be addressed. Instead of the religious leaders condemning the youth, they should work towards creating awareness on the legal implications of cohabitation since most couples are unaware of this before they enter into relationships and decide to live together as man and wife. 14 CampusMag

Choosing when and with whom to do it.
22 CampusMag
Advice To all incoming freshmen at the University: If you want to have sex, don’t get drunk. If that makes sex less appealing, wait until you can arrange a sexual situation that’s appealing when you’re sober. Even if you’re sober, do not have sex with someone who’s drunk. Not only will it be less enjoyable, you have no way of predicting what they’ll say the next day–or the next year. If the only way you can arrange to get sex is to get someone else drunk, that’s pathetic. Stay home. If you have penis-vagina intercourse, you need to be 1 00% responsible for birth control. This is true whether you’re drunk or sober, gay or straight, whether you climax or not, and even if the intercourse only lasts 1 0 seconds. There are be a hundreds of thousands unintended pregnancies in Kenya every year, and nothing—nothing—can damage your life like having one. Pee before you have sex, even if you don’t really need to. Trust me, you don’t want to stop to do it in the middle of sex--although of course you can. People do. Very few heterosexuals actually enjoy vigorous penis-in-anus sex. These days it seems a lot of young men want to try it and a lot of young women are acquiescing. True, you get to violate taboos and play with erotic power, but there are far safer and more comfortable ways to do that. Unless you both find it easy and really enjoyable, leave it to the pros. I know that some people say “no” to sex when they really mean “I’m not sure, ask again,” or “I’d like to, but I’ll feel better about myself if I say no first.” Since you can’t tell a real “no” from a “maybe” no until it’s too late, you must assume that every “no” means “no.” If you do this you may miss out on some consensual sex you could have had, but you’re also less likely of being accused of non-consensual sex aka RAPE. Real sex is not like porn. Real sex is actually much better: when you do it right, it’s more relaxed, friendlier, funnier, it lasts longer, involves kissing and hugging, and then you get to hang out together when it’s over. The first few times you have sex with someone, do the simpler, more basic stuff. Save the complicated positions, games, and toys for when you’re already sexually compatible with someone and can easily talk to each other during sex. Before deciding to have sex with someone, find out if they’re kinda crazy. Obviously, you can’t do this if one or both of you are drunk, or if you don’t talk to each other first (and listen to what they say), or if you’re in a big hurry, or if you’re in a group situation where everybody is acting kinda crazy. Having sex with someone who’s kinda crazy can be fantastically enjoyable–but what they do afterwards can ruin your life for years. That’s what kinda crazy people do. Never use sex to hurt someone, either physically or emotionally. Don’t use sex to get revenge or to punish someone or to prove something. You could ruin someone's life forever. And by the way, most people who use sex in these ways end up hurting themselves. If sex hurts, STOP. Young people sometimes act like there’s a scarcity of sex out there, making it essential to do it whenever there’s an opportunity—even if it’s a terribly unsatisfactory opportunity. Trust me—there will always be another chance to have sex. Passing up sex that could be unpleasant, dangerous, or the focus of legal action is one of the most adult things you’ll do at campus—and possibly the most important. Special note to male campus students: It should be quite obvious that anyone forcing sex on someone else deserves serious punishment. Anyone accused of Rape has virtually very few ways to defend themselves due to stringent laws on this. That said, having cooperative sex in an ambiguous situation, or when one of you has been drinking, is asking for very serious trouble. DO NOT DO IT. CampusMag 23

nimations? But those are for babies? Well, normally I'd agree, but then again, I'm not normal, So I don't agree. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is a fantastic finale for the film franchise and a poignant farewell to this beautiful realm of humans and dragons. Seeing these characters evolve over the past two films to where they are in The Hidden World feels not only believable but deeply emotional and weighty as well. The Hidden World takes place one year after the second film, which means there aren’t as many massive changes like the five-year jump between How to Train Your Dragon 1 and 2. While the main characters are still massive goofs, they also feel more like burgeoning adults now. Everyone’s been riding, fighting, and living alongside their dragons for at least six years so they’re a more capable bunch now (well, most of the time). Meanwhile, their home, Berk, has grown into a ridiculously overcrowded Viking/dragon utopia. Now the village chief, Hiccup, more than any other character, has truly come into his own even though, in many ways, he’s still that boy full of self-doubt and compassion for his people and their dragons. He still looks to his friends, and especially his partner Astrid (America Ferrara), for help and inspiration when times are tough or his confidence wavers. Astrid remains one of the most capable among the supporting characters, having taken on an almost second-incommand role in the village. A dangerous new
threat to Berk comes in the form of the fearsome dragon tracker Grimmel (F. Murray Abraham). Not only does Grimmel make things personal by having a special vendetta against Toothless, but he’s also strategic and calculating, always a step ahead of the heroes. He forces the citizens of Berk, particularly Hiccup and Toothless, to make some of their hardest sacrifices yet. Grimmel doesn’t simply want power; he wants to totally eradicate dragons and make a larger, painful point while doing so. To this end, he uses the white female Night Fury dragon -the Light Fury -- as bait to try to take out Toothless. Toothless discovers the white Fury (dubbed a "Light Fury" by Astrid) in the woods and the two quickly become enchanted with each other. Hiccup and Tuffnut discover Grimmel's dragon traps in the area. Grimmel visits Hiccup and reveals that he hunted and killed all the other Night Furies except Toothless, but Hiccup has prepared an ambush to capture him from which Grimmel escapes, burning down Hiccup's house and part of Berk, threatening to return if he doesn't get Toothless soon. In response, Hiccup rallies the citizens and dragons to leave Berk on a quest to find the Hidden World and safety from dragon hunters. Hiccup rebuilds an automatic, fireproof tail for Toothless who upon receiving the tail, flies off, meeting the Light Fury on his own and flying with her to an unknown land. Hiccup and Astrid, searching for Toothless, find the Hidden World and see Toothless and the
Light Fury leading the dragons there as king and queen. Suddenly, Grimmel appears and captures Toothless and the Light Fury & shortly after the rest of Berk dragons threatening to kill the light if he's attacked. Hiccup sets out with the dragon riders to stop Grimmel and his army. Gliding on wingsuits, they catch Grimmel's army off-guard, igniting a battle. In the heat of the battle, Grimmel tranquilizes Toothless midair causing him to plummet helplessly. Hiccup frees the Light Fury & implores her to save Toothless & is prepared to sacrifice himself as he and Grimmel plummet toward the sea. The light fury, however, returns to save him as well while Grimmel hits the water and drowns. Hiccup realizing dragons will never be safe on the human world, sets Toothless free and the dragons set off to live in the hidden world. Astrid and Hiccup get married and have babies whom they, later on, take to the edge of the Hidden world and introduce to Toothless and the light fury who have also had hybrid babies. Hiccup promises Toothless that they will keep the secret of the hidden world until such a time humans and Dragons can co-exist peacefully.

Once upon a time, Elliot was Macy’s entire world—growing from her gangly bookish friend into the man who coaxed her heart open again after the loss of her mother...only to break it on the very night he declared his love for her.

Beauty When it comes to summer beauty products, sunscreen is the only thing you should be laying on thick. Here, the best tips from makeup artists on how to lighten (and brighten) up but still look put-together in the dead of sweltering summer.
Try a Tinted Moisturizer If you can't bear to go bare (pun intended), apply a light layer of a tinted moisturizer for a sheer glow. Mix oil-free moisturizer with foundation for a softer, more sheer appearance.
Invest in the Proper Tools To avoid a makeup landslide, apply your tinted moisturizer with a synthetic buffing brush. This technique helps foundation last much longer, and keeps it from looking oily. Use Multitasking Makeup Invest in a product that does it all — for the lips, lids, and cheeks. It keeps your bag light and gives your look a soft, monochromatic focus. Give Your Lips Some Love The days are longer, the sun is stronger, and you’re often moving from one extreme temperature to another. All of these factors can leave your lips seriously dry and flaky. There are three simple things you can do to keep your lips soft: Protect, exfoliate, and repeat. Make sure to reapply throughout the day — at least every two hours.
Switch to Waterproof Formulas There's nothing worse than mid-day mascara or eyeliner blunders. Invest in a waterproof version of your favorite eye product — especially in the dead of summer. A waterproof eyeliner won't smear, run and can even handle the swimming pool. Go (Sort Of) Naked Walking around in 1 00-degree heat and sticky, stuffy humidity can do a number on a full face beat. Think: Smudges, smears, and all the sweat. To avoid the weather-worn mess, lightening your routine for the season and using only what you

What Are Some of Things That Affect Campus Students?
For those of you in campus, chances are there are numerous things that affect you more than you actually gave thought to initially before joining campus. Now, you can imagine how many other people there are like you who are affected by the same issues in campuses around the country and just want to talk about it. Our writer, Fred Wanjohi took a look at the issue a bit more from your perspective and asked a few students what are some of the things that affect you most in campus.
Speaking from experience, what really affected me was bad company, missing classes to be with older friends with much more campus experience. This lead to really bad results since I used to miss CATS which would add up to me failing my end of semester exams. But experience is a good teacher. At least I got to learn and know the people I should hung out with and to always put my education first.
I think as a student what affects us so much as students is peer pressure. Especially freshermen who have come to this new world where there is no much supervision from teachers like high school so they end up trying new things like drugs just because of pressure from peers. Most students also try to live an expensive life like their peers so they end up using the money that that their parents have given them for school fees.

Life inexperience probably could be the biggest challenge that faces campus students. Every student out here wants to have money to have fun but don’t know how to get it this leads to other students dating older people for money or as we like to call them “sponsors some of them end up getting impregnated which could lead them to dropping out. Institutions should take initiative to give life and guidance and counseling.
Personally what experience as a campus student is lack of finance sometimes as a young lady I want to go out with my girls and enjoy myself in the mall or party but the amount of money given to me by my parents is just not enough. Another thing is money management some of people in campus do not know how to spend their money wisely.
