EDITORIAL / ÉDITORIAL
RUMINATIONS Phyllis Harrington Interm General Manager / Administrator, Jersey Canada This is my first composition since starting with Jersey Canada 18 year ago. Usually I am one who communicates verbally rather than in writing, so here we go! Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Board of Directors for the confidence in my abilities to carry out the duties and responsibilities as interim General Manager. The next few months will be filled with many deadlines and challenges as the board works through the process of hiring a new full time GM. I would also like to thank the past Presidents, Directors and General Managers whom I have had the privilege of working with, and that have shared their unique skills and knowledge with me. During the transition, our staff in the office, Rachel Quesnel Shilletto and Jacob Lucs, and field reps Jean Marc Pellerin and Morgan Sangster, have continued to provide the customer service Jersey Canada is so well known for. They are going the extra mile to ensure this association continues to function at the professional level members expect. I encourage members to contact staff with inquiries or information whether related to registrations, transfers or advertising/social media.
THE ROYAL REPORT. The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair ended on November 10th and was a team effort. The Jersey showmanship show was held on Friday, November 8. It was judged by Jon Raymond Dykstra, marshalled by Brianne Browne and had 47 participants. Our National Jersey show held on Saturday, November 9 was a success, with 250 animals showing. Our thanks to Judge Pierre Boulet, and Associate Judge Richard Landry. I am sure they were challenged in many classes to make the final decisions. I would also like to extend thank-yous to Carolyn Sayles for accurate point calculations, David Morey and John Vander Wielen for ensuring the correct awards were presented, and Rachel Quesnel Shilletto, Caleigh Van Kampen and Cassidy Porteous for organizing ribbons and presentations. Special acknowledgement goes to the five young people that worked diligently in the ring, keeping it in pristine condition: Mason Buckley, Jake Buckley, Nathan Dawe, Rachel Tamlin and Liam Bullock. These individuals worked from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm plus were asked to stay on and work in the ring during the Supreme. Gratitude also to Bev Spriel and Jean Marc Pellerin in the marshalling ring for their diligence in organization and keeping the show running smoothly.
6 DECEMBER / DÉCEMBRE 2019 Canadian Jersey Breeder / Eleveur De Jersey Canadien
During the 10 days of the Royal, we had several extra volunteers working in the booth answering questions – thank you to Marjorie, Mark and Ian Anderson from New Brunswick, Tracy and David Morey from Alberta, Dawn and George Van Kampen, Tracy and Amy DaFoe, Brianna Lockhurst, and any others I have missed. It takes many volunteers and exhibitors to make shows successful and thank you to them all for their efforts and continued support. I wish you and your family Happy Holidays and a wish for a very prosperous 2020.
