Clash II in Tenerife Box-office Titans smash-hit brings film-makers back for sequel

TENERIFE has proved so popular for the filmmakers of the recent box-office smash, Clash of the Titans, that they are back on the Island shooting the sequel.
Filming began on Tuesday and will continue for five weeks. It is believed that the production of Clash of the Titans II will generate around five million euros of business over here. The original Clash, a 1981 fantasy adventure film based on the myth of Perseus, starred

Laurence Olivier, Claire Bloom and Ursula Andress, and was made on the Island in 1981. And last year’s remake by Warner Brothers, which was shot in 2009, also showcased Tenerife. Much of the filming for those two productions took place around the volcanic landscapes
of Teide National Park, which will again feature prominently in Clash II. Last year’s updated version featured Ralph Fiennes (Hades), Sam Worthington (Perseus) and Liam Neeson (Zeus) and was one of the most successful films of all, financially at least, raking in some £305
million (346m euros) worldwide. And the same trio, in the same roles, are also starring in the sequel, with much of the action again being concentrated on the Tenerife landscape and a fishing village in the south. Producer Basil Iwanyk says: “You could travel the world
looking for the dramatic views that are all at your disposal in Tenerife. It is a terrific resource for film-makers. “A huge contributing factor to the success of Clash of the Titans was the incredible look of the movie. Continued on page 10
