Storm Emma’s bitter blow Continued from Front Most of the public services came to a halt on Wednesday, with schools, colleges, universities and even libraries being closed as a preventive measure.

But co-ordinators at the emergency callcentres had their work cut out, after receiving so many weatherrelated calls.

Among the islands most affected were Tenerife, Gran Canaria and La Palma, with trees being uprooted, foreign objects appearing on busy roads, and problems with the drainage system overspill, as well as street flooding, which left many people stranded.

Curiously, amid all the chaos, there was bright sunshine in some areas of Tenerife, which left residents, expecting high winds, slightly baffled.

The Canarian airports still operated during the Orange weather warning, although several flights were cancelled, and some were diverted because of the strong winds, In Tenerife and La Palma, many roads were affected by storm damage, and, across Arona beaches, Red Flags were put in place because of the strong currents and high waves.

The beach footpath in Las Americas was also closed off, while La Laguna Council banned people from swimming in the sea because 6-7-metre waves were crashing on to the coast, especially in the Bajamar and Punto de Hidalgo areas.

The topsy-turvy weather in the Canary Islands, especially here in Tenerife, left the inhabitants bewildered.

Most were horrified by the violent storms

and fierce winds, while others were bathed in warm sunshine.

The storms, which began last Sunday, following a sunny Saturday, scarred Tenerife in particular, with much of mainland Spain also mopping up.

Anaga, in the northwest of Tenerife, was the most-affected area, experiencing severe landslides which blocked the road access to drivers. In the Santa Cruz area of Tagananga, cars were stuck in deep-water floods.

And, for the first time in many years, the island was isolated for a few hours, with both North and South airports closed because of extremely-poor visibility. More than 50 flights were diverted to other islands on the archipelago.

And Adeje Council, while adhering to the Orange Alert, closed the Farmers’ Market, its crèche, the school of music... and the cemetery!

Despite the weather warnings, though, which have been broadcast for a week

now across the Canary Islands, a few people chose to ignore them.

A man diced with death, literally, when he decided to swim in the rough sea at Tabaiba, near Puerto de la Cruz.

Images have gone viral on social networks, and footage shows the man battling to get out of the sea, while being dragged back down under the force of the water. He did make it, eventually, but how lucky was he?

A few days earlier, a woman also risked her life by trying to take a picture next to the Bajamar waves, in Costa del Sol. In a video, which also went viral, neighbours in the area tried to warn her of the dangers of being swept into the sea. Fortunately, she also got away with it.

The Canarian Government closed all schools, colleges and universities across the majority of the archipelago on Wednesday, with the exception of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. And it

They had climbed down a steep ravine to get to the beach, but strong winds and heavy rain made it impossible for

them to get back up, or even take a boat.

They ended up trapped on the Masca beach, and were forced to shelter in a cave overnight because 10 people, from various services, were unable to rescue them because of the conditions.

The sum they must pay was confirmed by Javier Rodriguez Medina, Head of Security, who

said the fire brigade consortium did not have the power to impose fines.

But he added that fees could be requested, to go towards materials used, as well as human resources.

As a result, Masca Council now plans to invest one million euros to make the ravine more secure, with less risk to walkers.

Along the Gran Canaria coast, La Palma’s eastern coast, and the south, east and west coasts of Tenerife, there were also yellow alerts in place, because waves were predicted to reach up to five metres high.

Santa Cruz and Gran Canaria had an additional yellow alert set in place for more heavy rain, with up

to 25 litres per square metre.

The strong gusts of wind across the islands began to take their toll at the airports, especially those on El Hierro, La Palma and La Gomera, where preventive measures were installed. A total of 14 flights from their small airports were cancelled through bad weather.

In Barcelona, snow halted Formula One’s third day of winter testing, in preparation for the new season, which starts in Australia on 25th March.

Meanwhile, Spanish traffic authorities have urged people in Madrid and Catalonia to avoid driving, unless it is essential.

By 2.30pm on Tuesday, there were 44 roads and mountain passes affected by the snow.

The following day, the polar front, known as “The Beast From The East”, caused two deaths and numerous road-closures as heavy rain, snow and winds of up to 100 km/h buffeted many parts of the country.

The severe weather across northern Europe is still hitting airports and flights hard, in the UK and Spain.

Bilbao airport had dozens of cancellations after the runway was closed through snow.

And most UK airports have also been affected badly, with many flights being delayed or cancelled.

Chemist shop robbed

ADEJE’S main high-street chemist was burgled on Wednesday night, after thieves forced open the main doors.

They disarmed the alarm and got away with 900 euros in cash, a computer, and various pharmaceutical drugs.

The National Police in Las Americas are investigating the incident.

Crooked cops sold confiscated drugs!

FIVE crooked Costa del Sol Local Police officers have shamed their status, and the force, by selling drugs after seizing them from traffickers.

The men, all stationed in tourist hotspot Mijas, have been jailed. They were said to have stolen classified information to track down drug-related criminals.

A sixth man, not attached to the police force, was also convicted, after agreeing to stash drugs at his home, in which detectives found 162kg of hashish during a search.

The verdict came after the Spanish Supreme Court overturned an earlier decision by Malaga’s Provincial Court, which acquitted the men, after finding that wiretaps used in the investigation were “invalid”.

The crooked gang must now serve prison sentences, ranging from 3½ to five

years, and they have been banned from police duty for 20 years.

The sentences were delivered in the provincial court, where a judge described the men’s crimes as “unjustifiable”.

He added: “They had a duty to serve the public with loyalty and integrity, fight crime, and not act as lowly criminals, selling drugs using their uniforms, weapons and cars.”

A Mijas Council official highlighted the “social alarm” caused by the “endemic police corruption”.

Bottle-stabber charged with attempted murder GUARDIA Civil officers have arrested a man in San Isidro for attempted murder with a bottle last month.

EIGHT people, stranded on a small boat in the middle of a weather warning about a rough sea with high waves, were rescued by the emergency services on Wednesday.

them, using official cars, badges, uniforms and weapons.

But the culprits were allowed to escape during the raids, enabling the crooked officers to load any drugs they could find into their cars.

They felt they were safe, in the knowledge that, if caught by colleagues, they could justify being in possession of the loot.

One of the five, on long-term sick leave, then used his contacts “from the drugs underworld” to sell on the narcotics.

The incident happened on 10th February, when the victim and the attacker, who were known in the San Isidro area, were witnessed having a heated discussion by several people.

Moments later, a fight broke out, and one of the men was attacked violently with a broken glass bottle.

The attacker was seen breaking the bottle and making violent threats while stabbing the victim.

And he continued to do so, even when the man fell to the floor.

But for the intervention of people in the vicinity, who successfully separated the two fighters, the injuries sustained by the victim could have been much worse.

Once separated, the attacker drove off in his own car as though nothing had happened. His victim was attended to by ambulance medics, who later transferred him to the Candelaria Hospital, where he had emergency surgery because of the severity of his injuries.

Thanks to the witnesses, the Guardia identified the attacker, and, once located, he was arrested for attempted murder.

He is now in the hands of the Granadilla courts, awaiting sentencing.

Cops force dodgy taxi off the road POLICE in the south of Spain impounded a so-called taxi, which had no MOT, no licence, no legal meter and a broken seat.

It also featured a window, which was jammed shut with wood to prevent it from opening.

became suspicious when they spotted the vehicle’s general state of disrepair, as the driver delivered two passengers to the city’s train station.

Officers, who also saw that the car was dirty, in general, and covered in dents, impounded it, and served a denuncia on the driver.

Behind bars! Cop who couldn’t stop bullying A JUDGE from Gran Canaria’s Las Palmas Court has sentenced a one-time Deputy Inspector of the Canarian Police Force to four years and four months in prison.

He was found guilty of committing physical abuse and harassment against two officers in the workplace.

Between 2010 and 2013, the former police officer took full advantage of his high position, starting to harass, and then physically abuse, both men while they were under his command.

The abuse was constant, happening always at briefings and in the lockerrooms, and always in front of their colleagues, making nasty remarks, undermining and bullying them both.

This appalling, continuous behaviour caused one of the officers to develop serious depression and anxiety, which means that he will never work in the force again. In fact, he has now been declared unfit to work.

Along with the sentence, the Judge also ordered the former Deputy Inspector to pay compensation of 69,505 euros to both officers, for their mental and physical injuries.

Tombstone kills man!

A CEMETERY worker in Galicia, in the north of Spain, was crushed to death when a tombstone fell on him.

The 61-year-old man died at Carballal cemetery, in the Sabugueira district of

Santiago de Compostela.

The emergency services sent an air-ambulance, and one by road to the scene, but medics could do nothing to save the poor man.

National Police are investigating the circumstances.

Mentally-ill man Toilet break took his own life took hours

A MAN known as Ramón to locals in Tacoronte, northeast Tenerife, who had suffered a lifetime of mental illness, killed himself as a result of being held in a cell at the Guardia Civil’s local headquarters.

He was arrested by the Guardia on Tuesday, and detained because he launched a violent attack on his father, bashing his head with a metal bar.

His brother managed to stop the assault, which probably saved his dad’s life. But Ramón, still in a violent mood, took the keys to the family car and drove off.

Guardia officers were able to stop him as he drove on

the main Tacoronte road.

But, after detaining him, they were also attacked.

He was transferred to a holding cell, but, within minutes, officers heard sounds from the cell, and they saw the man bashing his head against a wall.

Unfortunately, Ramón suffered horrific injuries because of the self-inflicted blows, and, despite being cared for by a station doctor, who transferred him to a local hospital, he died later that day.

Ramón’s behaviour throughout was probably a result of a psychotic attack, related to the schizophrenia he was said to have suffered.

PASSENGERS on a Gatwick-Tenerife BA flight were forced to grin and bear it for more than three hours, after the onboard toilets were shut down.

Cabin crew discovered a problem, and the plane was forced to divert to Faro, Portugal.

And, according to air-traffic tracker Flight Radar, the pilot had to make a near180° turn to reach the airport there.

The plane eventually went on to Tenerife, with knockon delays of more than two hours for passengers on the returning flight to London.

A BA spokeswoman said there was “very little disruption” to customers, and the plane was on the ground for just 30 minutes.

But there was no mention of whether the toilet issue was down to checks not being done before takeoff, or if a separate problem was discovered while airborne.

One angry passenger tweeted: “I got on a plane this morning to go to Tenerife, but here I am in Faro due to a broken toilet. All I can say is,

you really are full of s***” The spokeswoman added: “We got our customers on their way to their destination in just over half-an-hour, and said sorry for the delay to their journey.”

The incident occurred just days after another plane was forced to make an unscheduled stop, en-route from Dubai to Amsterdam, after a punch-up broke out when a passenger, allegedly, refused to stop breaking wind loudly.

The Transavia Airlines HV6902 service made the unplanned stop-off in Vienna, after two men objected to their fellowtraveller’s behaviour. And when, allegedly, he refused to stop, a fight broke out and the crew were forced to intervene.

Man’s brother is found dead, after seven years THE body of a man, who died seven years ago at the age of 38, has been found by his brother at an apartment in Spain.

His neighbours in Valencia, and his brother, thought he had gone to live in Santander as he had said he would, days before his apparent death.

But after several years without hearing from him, the brother visited the apartment last week with a locksmith, a friend and a neighbour.

When the locksmith opened the door, the mummified skeleton of the man was found on the bed.

National Police officers are investigating, and a post-mortem has been performed to try to determine the cause of death.

However, the man is believed to have led a tragic life. At the age of 20, he lost his father, who was hit by a car, and his disabled mother died in a residence.

And, it has been reported that he twice went through drug rehabilitation programmes.

NEWS IN BRIEF Drink-driver’s film folly

A YOUNG Romanian will appear before a Spanish court, after driving 200km/h in his car while drinking gin... and filming himself!

The 21-year-old has been accused of “reckless” driving, after sharing the video on social media.

Catalonia’s police force, the Mossos d’Esquadra, launched an investigation after seeing the video for the first time, on 16th February.

The idiotic motorist is alleged to have driven on the A-2, and around Bell-Lloc, in Lleida, Girona.

The Mossos said speeding or alcohol were two of the main accident causes on roads.

Woman, 61, in intensive care

AN Adeje woman, aged 61, was admitted to a local hospital after suffering domestic violence, which featured various stab wounds, inflicted by her husband.

She was taken to the intensive-care unit after the 66-year-old man attacked her with a kitchen knife at around 11.45pm, when the woman called the emergency team.

She was taken to hospital immediately, while her husband was detained by police, and is awaiting court procedures.

Ryanair’s Mallorcan lift

RYANAIR, which has based two additional aircraft at Mallorca’s Palma airport, plans to invest 162m euros there this year.

The Irish low-cost company will now have a total of 10 planes at the airport, and six new routes will be added to the summer schedule.

These include Luxembourg, Nuremberg, Strasbourg and Stuttgart, as well as Berlin and Düsseldorf for the first time.

In total, 53 routes will be available for Palma passengers this summer.

High-rise death

A MAN aged 35 fell to his death last week in Santa Cruz from a public, high-rise car park.

A local policeman, who was first at the scene, tried to stabilise the injured man immediately, before calling for medical help.

An ambulance arrived within minutes, and the victim was transferred to Candelaria Hospital because of his critical condition.

Regrettably, he died an hour later when his heart stopped, but he was carrying no identification.

Fishy restaurants!

MORE than 50% of Spanish restaurants are mislabelling fish on their menus, according to a new survey.

It covered more than 200 restaurants, and was conducted

by AZTI Technology Centre, showing that the largest percentage of incorrect labelling occurred with grouper, butterfish, dogfish, sole, hake and bluefin tuna.

Using DNA analysis, more than 300 samples were taken from 204 restaurants across the 15 main regional communities in Spain.

Jade eyes crowning glory...

THERE’S no better prize for Tenerife girls than being chosen as Carnival Queen, especially if you are a rare, British-born candidate in Arona’s showcase event.

The borough’s annual Carnival, which this year has a pirate theme, began yesterday (1st March) and runs until the 12th. And 17-yearold Jade Newman is hoping to sail into the top spot.

The big election, at Los Cristianos showground on Thursday, comprises a dazzling show of music, dance, and colour, from 9pm.

Few people see the hard work and dedication that goes into a Carnival, and an amazing 6,000 people have been involved in the organisation, which begins as soon as the previous year’s celebrations take their farewell bow.

Jade has previous experience of Arona Carnival, but this time it will be a little bit more daunting for her.

“We came to Los Cristianos when I was eight years old, and I’ve always loved the Carnival,” she said.

“I really enjoyed being in the parades with the Los Playeritos Comparsas group, so I applied for this year’s early stage of casting, when 12 ladies, aged 17-25, were chosen by the costume designers, to be put forward for the final six places at the big final.”

The glamour and starshine fit nicely with Jade’s makeup studies, as a student in Las Galletas, following her schooldays in Los Cristianos.

The costume designers take nearly a year to create their elaborate designs, and Jade’s is called “I Give You My Soul”.

All six Carnival Queen candidates will be leading the opening parade from Veronicas, Playa de Las Americas, at 7.30pm tomorrow (Saturday).

It’s just a taste of the waves of goodwill they will receive from the thousands of Carnival fans during the main events.

Jade’s costume designer, David Hernandez, has plenty of experience of weaving his magic into the colourful creations, while her sponsor, Karting Club Tenerife, will put some vroom into her presentation.

But it’s a new stage for Jade. “It’s going to be a mixture of excitement, pride and nerves, but I’m going to enjoy every min-

ute,” she said.

Other highlights to look out for include the elections of the “Third Age” Queen on Tuesday at 9pm, the Infant Queen on Wednesday at 7pm, and the Drag Queen next Friday (9th) at 9pm.

The main stage, and the showground, will be buzzing every night with music and dancing, and, on the two Saturdays (3rd and 10th), there will be daytime parties from noon.

It all ends with the Coso Parade, from Compostela Beach, at the lower end of Los Cristianos, on Sunday, 11th March, from 4pm, and Monday night’s Burial Of The Sardine procession, from the Cultural Centre, at 9pm.

O’Leary’s threat of more strike misery RYANAIR chief Michael O’Leary has warned of potential strikes by the Irish airline in Europe, during Easter Week.

Earlier last month, O’Leary suggested possible disruptions, as the airline prepared to extend its recent recognition of pilot unions to cabin-crew staff. The Irishman did not specify which markets were likely to be hit.

But he did say that his company would rather see bookings damaged by the uncertainty surrounding a strike, than give in to what he described as “laughable” union demands.

He told a Lisbon press conference: “We had a strike in Germany on 22nd December, and we expect the next one will be in Ireland, or maybe in Portugal, in Easter Week.”

But, during that fourhour strike, there were no cancellations.

Irish pilot union FORSA/ IALPA has not announced any strike plans, but it revealed that pilots had

It added that the airline was refusing the union’s demand to be recognised as the exclusive body for collective bargaining.

O’Leary said he was making “significant progress” in talks with SPAC, the Portuguese pilots’ union.

But he admitted that the management there had offered a direct pay-rise to Portuguese pilots, and that 75% had accepted the deal.

A Ryanair spokesperson said: “We explained in our third-quarter results on 5th February that, ‘as we finalise union discussions

along similar lines to those agreed in the UK, we expect some localised disruptions, and adverse PR, so investors should be prepared for same’.”

The February third-quarter results statement said: “In certain jurisdictions, unions representing competitor airlines will wish to test our commitment to our low-cost, high-pay/highproductivity model to disrupt our operations.

“We are fully prepared to face down any such disruption, if it means defending our cost-base, or our high-productivity model.”

A MAN from San Cristobal, in La Laguna, who was under observation for several years by his neighbours for mistreating his dog, has been sent to prison for animal abuse.

Neighbours witnessed him leaving the poor animal on the roof without water, food or shelter, as well as beating and kicking the dog regularly.

He was also was caught on film by several neighbours, who needed proof to make a report to the authorities.

After realising that his cruelty was on record, he handed the dog over to Animal Protection, and denied all accounts

of abuse. According to sources, this wicked abuse had been going on for several years.

The animal was living in dire conditions, tied up in a small space on the rooftop.

It had probably never been seen by a vet, and was severely malnourished because of all the mistreatment.

The poor animal was extremely sick and could not stand up when he was handed over to the animal protection team, They decided to prosecute the owner and won the case, the abuser getting a six-month sentence in prison, along with a hefty fine.

In addition, the man has been disqualified for having any involvement with animals of any kind in the next two years.

Spain wants to co-manage Gibraltar airport with UK

SPAIN has called for joint-management of Gibraltar airport with the UK, in the ongoing Brexit negotiations.

And Foreign Minister Alfonso Dastsis also said his country wanted greater co-operation on tax, as well as tobacco-smuggling.

The new claims threaten to spark more uproar among Tory backbenchers in the UK, who are furious that the British Government has not stood up to Spain enough over The Rock.

Dastis (pictured), wants an agreement by this month’s crucial EU summit, at which Britain hopes to secure a Brexit transition deal.

It comes after Brussels gave Spain a formal veto over the pro-

vision of any EU-UK Brexit deal applying to Gibraltar.

The Foreign Minister told the Financial Times that he wanted a deal, “as close as possible” to the status quo with Britain.

But on the Gibraltar issue, he said that Spain wanted to “manage the airport together”.

He insisted that Spain “has a claim” to the land, claiming it was occupied by the UK illegally. He added: “We need some more cooperation with the Gibraltar or the UK tax authorities, but the situation has already improved.

“The Gibraltarians seem willing to cooperate, but we need to see that in practice.”

Murderous gang face up to 30 years inside A COURT case involving 35 members of MS-13, the murderous street gang also known as Mara Salvatrucha, is underway at Alicante’s provincial court, on the Costa Blanca.

Some 12 sessions are scheduled for the trial, which will run until May, the defendants facing prison sentences of 2-30 years for a range of charges, relating to the possession of illegal weapons, attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, moneylaundering and drug-trafficking.

The trial follows a major police sting, which enabled investigators to swoop on the gang’s Spanish headquarters in Ibi, Alicante, plus cells in Madrid, Barcelona and Gerona, in the wake of a wire-

tapping probe. The crackdown was designed to stop the organisation from expanding its operations in Spain, where it had been receiving funds from kingpins in the dangerous Central American country of El Salvador.

It also prevented the assassination of two people, including a man who witnessed the stabbing of a Romanian member of the Latin Kings, an enemy crew, in Alicante Port.

Among those on trial are several local bosses, who, allegedly, orchestrated violent territorial battles with rival gangs, and also set up drug-trafficking networks.

But the majority are “soldiers”, many of them children, who committed robberies and other petty crimes to pay the monthly membership fee of 100 euros.

They would pass an initiation rite, during which they were

brutally beaten for 13 seconds, before being given a ‘placa’ (nickname) and accepted into the gang.

According to reports, defence lawyers have already negotiated a number of reduced sentences, in exchange for confessions, although this has not yet been made official, with the trial set to recommence on Thursday (8th March).

Originating in Los Angeles, most MS-13 members are from Central America, particularly El Salvador, and they are famed for the tattoos covering their bodies, and their motto: “Mata, roba, viola, controla’ (kill, steal, rape, control).

Gang members are mostly active in the US, El Salvador, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and Canada, and they were planning to gain a foothold in Spain, according to detectives.

PENSIONERS in their thousands have taken to the streets of Spain to demand decent pensions.

Demonstrating across Spain to ask the government to guarantee pensions for present and future generations, one group in Madrid managed to break through a police cordon, and block access to Spanish Parliament.

Protesters in 40 cities and

towns including Barcelona, Seville and Bilbao held placards stating that this year’s 0.25% pension increase was ‘miserable’, and not enough to keep up with inflation.

The OAPs were heard chanting “We are pensioners, not terrorists”.

Spain’s biggest workers’ union, which was involved in organising the protests, have petitioned parliament to stop blocking changes to pension laws.

Previously, the Spanish

government has stated that increasing pensions at the current rate is unsustainable, due to the ageing population, and fewer workers contributing to the national social security fund.

Workers’ General Union leader Mari Carmen Barrera has demanded the Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy should explain why pensions have increased by 0.25%, while the Spanish economy has grown at 3%.

Dead shark on beach A HUGE, awesomelooking shark, weighing 200 kilos (31st 6lb) and measuring four metres, has washed up on an Alicante beach.

Police, who were called after it had been spotted in Santa Pola, contacted transport company Urbaser to remove its remains.

A crane was then used to lift the shark on to the pier, before taking it back to a warehouse. The firm is now awaiting news from the Marine Environmental Institute, to see whether it wants to study the giant fish for further information.

While the species has not been confirmed, the waters of the Western Mediterranean are known to harbour blue-fin sharks, which do not pose a danger to humans because they feed on smaller fish.

A ROWDY, foulmouthed Ryanair passenger was kicked off his flight to Tenerife, after being caught on film, ripping off his shirt and threatening to batter the cabin crew.

The unnamed passenger, who spoke with a British accent, launched a disgusting tirade at staff on an early-morning plane from Stansted Airport to Tenerife.

The plane was diverted, swiftly, to Marrakesh airport, in Morocco, where he was arrested by local cops.

When told to calm down by the hi-vis-clad steward, he screamed: “How about you calm down c***? Who’s got a problem with me?

She added: “This flight from London Stansted to Tenerife diverted to Marrakesh, after a passenger became disruptive in-flight.”

The robots are coming ROBOTS are set to take over one-third of Spain’s jobs by the year 2030, according to a PwC study, which analysed labour data from 27 countries.

As well as 34% of jobs being at risk, the report, entitled “Will robots steal our jobs?”, said that 3% of jobs in Spain could be lost in the next few years.

PricewaterhouseCoopers, performing business as PwC, is a multi-national, professional-services network, based in London.

It is the second-largest company of its kind in the world, and is one of the Big Four auditors, along with Deloitte, EY and KPMG. And it calculates that men are set to be affected more than women, 39% in comparison with 28%, and that the transport and logistic industries will be hit hardest, with a possible job loss of 52% and 45% respectively.

It also reassures us that education will be least affected by artificial intelligence, with just 8% of jobs at risk.

Economies relying on industry, such as Italy (39%) and Germany (37%) will be worst affected, while those with a higher concentration of service-sector jobs fair better, such as the UK (30%) and Finland (22%).

Top Tory accused of living it up on funds A FEMALE politician in Costa del Sol has caused a storm, after being accused of using public money to pay for luxury meals and a 2,000euro degree.

Margarita El Cid (pictured, inset), Vice-President of Malaga’s conservative Popular Party, also leads the Association of Western Costa del Sol Municipalities.

She is alleged to have misused funds from 20112014, when she served as the PP’s General Secretary, and was a Torremolinos Councillor.

El Cid is said to have syphoned cash from bank accounts of her party and the Association, some of which was used to pay for a Master’s degree in Public Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, from the Deusto private business school in Madrid.

An anonymous letter, detailing the infractions, was sent last October to

Maria Dolores de Cospedal, the current party General Secretary.

Funds from the Association of Western Costa del Sol Municipalities, which covers a huge area, can be used only to pay for association business, which includes environmental and infrastructure projects, beach safety, and tourism promotion.

El Cid is also President of public water company Acosol, which is owned by the Association.

But the letter claims that

she made personal use of public money by using “blank cheques” to pay for expensive meals, costing a total of more than 6,000 euros, on her days off, plus another 7,000 euros, of “dubious expenses”.

She is also accused of failing to bank 29,000 euros, intended for “sociological services”, transferring 40,000 euros from the Association to her Popular Party’s provincial account, and signing off invoices worth almost 30,000 euros, for non-approved,

public-opinion surveys.

A party official responded to the claims, saying: “This party has no evidence to suggest the existence of any unjustified payments.

“All information related to economic management is available to municipal investigators, and the Association successfully passed a recent audit of its accounts.”

The original El Cid, from the 11th century, was a famous Spanish folk hero, and “the embodiment of chivalry and virtue!”

Unlucky five hurt on danger stretch

FIVE men, aged 2155, were all injured in a collision between two cars on a notoriously-dangerous Malaga mountain road, between San Pedro de Alcantara and Ronda, on Monday morning.

Four of the men, with minor injuries, were taken to the Serrania Hospital, before being discharged a few hours later.

The crash was the latest to occur on the notorious stretch of road, and it coincided with, on the same day, that a new, average-speed camera system was installed on the same access road to Ronda

from the Costa del Sol. It was put there in a bid by the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) to reduce the number of accidents on this single-lane road.

It is the first such system to be installed in the province of Malaga, and it covers the stretch between Kilometres 28 and 30.5 in both directions.

Motorists will be fined for exceeding an average speed of 60km/h between those points. And, with two fixed radars and two mobile models already in use, the 48km road is now the most-heavily-monitored in Malaga.

In 2015, there were 70 accidents recorded, involving 56 vehicles, in which five people died, four suffered serious injuries and 47 others were hurt.

Property prices boom

SPAIN’S property market has recovered from the 2008 crash officially, with 2017’s transactions reaching levels last seen before the crisis.

New figures released this week showed close to 465,000 sales last year, the highest annual figure since 2008, and a 15% increase on those of 2016.

The country experienced a property boom in the 1990s, before it crashed from dizzying heights in 2008, following the global economic meltdown.

Prices plummeted, and began to rise again only in 2014, when Spain’s recession ended.

Across the whole country last year, the average property price rose by 7.6%, compared with the 2016 figures.

But while transactions are at pre-crisis levels, prices remain 21% lower than in 2007, which was the height of the real-estate bubble, although a 3.1% growth in the economy has helped boost the market.

“Low interest rates, along with a declining (although still-high) unemployment rate, which fell to 17% in 2017 from a record 27% in 2013, are supporting housing affordability,” said ratings agency Moody’s.

“Moreover, although it is likely that housing sales will exceed 500,000 properties during 2018 for the first time in a decade,

this is still far from nearly one million annual housing sales before 2007.

“Construction activity is currently at 40% of pre-crisis levels in 2007, partially correcting the over-supply in place before the crisis.”

The figures from Spain’s property register revealed 13% of home-purchases were made by foreigners last year, led by British and French nationals.

In the Balearic Islands, foreigners accounted for 35% of sales, while the Canaries recorded 29%.

The Lucas Fox property company said Madrid was the hottest market in Spain right now, seeing a 92% jump in transactions last year, and a 311% increase in sales value.

A BRITISH tourist, who had threatened to commit suicide on a number of occasions, hanged himself after a row with his girlfriend during their “makeor-break” holiday in Fuerteventura, an inquest heard.

Nick Crook, 47, returned to his hotel room after his partner, Vanessa Grant, said she was leaving him.

It followed an argument between them about him not socialising with other holiday-makers. The fatherof-three was thought to have left the door of their room open deliberately, in the hope of being found in time.

But, the inquest was told, he was already dead by the time Miss Grant arrived back, three hours later.

Mr Crook, who had split up with his wife, Nicola, in 2005, began a relationship with Miss Grant last year.

But in the days leading up the holiday, he had told his family the romance was in trouble.

He was a recycling plant foreman, and had been described by his family as an “an amazing friend to everyone”.

The tragedy occurred after the father, from Britannia in Bacup, Lancs, and Miss Grant, booked into the Caleta Playa Apartments in May last year.

His family later had to launch a fund-raising campaign to raise the £5,000 cost of bringing his body home.

Miss Grant told the Burnley hearing: “Nick and I had been in a relationship for a few months. We had gone on holiday, and on that day he was quite vacant. We had met some other couples, and I was telling him that he needed to be more sociable.”

She added: “After that, we went back to the room. We

Brit found hanging deaths after a big bust-up with his girlfriend Dogs’ horrific AT least 20 dogs were found mutilated and dead after being tied to train tracks in several Sevilla towns.

They were discovered by PACMA, Spain’s leading animal-rights party, in Espartinas, Olivares, Salteras and Villanueva del Ariscal, and some of the dogs still had the rope used to tether them to the tracks around their necks.

At least one of the dogs had been used for hunting, and its background is being investigated by SEPRONA, the Guardia Civil’s unit responsible for management of the hunting and fishing industry.

PACMA, which says several animals have also been found alive, has also called for the information on chips from each dog to help find those responsible for these horrific deeds.

“I just couldn’t understand what happened. Knowing Nick as well as I knew him, and how much he adored his daughters, I don’t believe that he intended to die on that day.”

She added: “On one occasion after our break-up in 2005, when I was away on holiday with friends, he left a rope at the top of the stairs, and told me he was going to hang himself.”

Coroner Richard Taylor,

recording a conclusion of death by hanging, said: “I have the background of someone who reacts in certain ways on occasions.

“His former wife tells me that, in 2005, there were three overdoses. But he always wanted to be found, and accepted that it was for attention.

“Two years after that, there was an incident saying he was going to hang himself and left a rope on the stairs.

But he never did.

“On this occasion, there was an argument and he said he was going to hang himself.

But I have insufficient evidence to clearly state what his intention was. I could not be sure that his intention was to end his life.”

Uncertain, economic outlook slows pound Sterling advance

DESPITE uncertainty surrounding the UK economic outlook, the pound was able to climb higher over the past fortnight.

GBP/EUR started by sinking to a low of 1.1223 euros, but was then able to climb higher, albeit with a few bumps in the road, to a high of 1.1398 over the following days. GBP/ USD lost its footing, as the weekend before last approached, dropping to a low of US$1.3861, but has since rebounded to a high of US$1.4064.

EUR/GBP started the past fortnight around a high of £0.8866, but has now fallen to a low of £0.8773. EUR/USD, meanwhile, traded between a high of US$1.2414, and a low of US$1.2261.

It hasn’t been a smooth ride, but Sterling has been able to record notable gains over the course of the past fortnight. The UK economy continued to play its favourite game, providing mixed data to keep the

economic outlook balanced on a knife-edge.

For instance, January inflation figures beat forecasts upon release on the 13th, with core price growth recovering from 2.5% to 2.7%, and overall price growth holding steady at 3%, instead of falling to 2.9%, as predicted.

However, the latest retail sales and fourthquarter GDP data have disappointed forecasts. The former improved the odds of a May rate hike from the Bank of England (BoE), while the latter lowered them again.

Markets were disappointed

when several members of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), including BoE Governor Mark Carney, appeared together to discuss the interest-rate outlook, last week.

While Carney suggested that the BoE may need to hike interest rates more than predicted a few months ago, over the course of the next three years, he also avoided being pinned down over the timing of the rate hikes, dampening hopes the MPC may be about to tighten monetary policy in May. Things on the Brexit front are starting to look a

little rosier, after Business Insider reported that the EU Parliament was putting together a 60-page resolution, that would suggest the UK receive “privileged” access to the single market after Brexit.

Additionally, the UK Cabinet has seemingly managed to thrash out an agreement, regarding the government’s approach to trade negotiations next month, providing some much-needed unity and clarity on the entire process.

Things get interesting at the end of this week, when IHS Markit releases its next manufacturing

and construction indices, building up to the vital services PMI on Monday, 5th March. On Friday, BoE Governor Mark Carney will speak at Economics Conference in Edinburgh; signs that he supports an interest-rate hike in May would boost GBP. Prime Minister Theresa May is set to give a speech this week, in which she sets out the government’s aims for transitional periods and post-Brexit trade. The more her Cabinet’s plans seem to be leaning towards a “Hard Brexit”, the more likely it is that the Pound will fall.

It is the first quarter-final of the series, and the six heat winners continue to fight for their place in the competition.

In the Critic’s Test, the contestants are put through the mill with a seriously daunting test set by critic William Sitwell. His challenge for the amateur cooks is to create a dessert showcasing either alcohol or spices. After cooking their dish based on this brief, the contestants stand before William and judges John and Gregg to hear what they think of their dish and whether they have managed to rise to the challenge and meet the expectations. At the end of this quarter-final, the best cooks go through to Knockout Week.

10 Cloverfield Lane

The directorial debut of Dan Trachtenberg and produced by J.J. Abrams, 10 Cloverfield Lane is loosely connected to the 2008 found-footage monster flick Cloverfield. It’s set during and after an incident of unknown origin that causes a mass power surge plunging large parts of the US into a blackout, during which Michelle suffers a car crash that knocks her out cold. She wakes in an underground bunker with two other people - the unstable bunker-owner Howard and one of his workers, Emmett. Howard insists the outside worldhas fallen to some terrible chemical or possibly cosmic catastrophe, and no one can leave the bunker until it’s safe. However, Michelle and Emmett become increasingly concerned that he’s not being entirely truthful, tensions rise and cabin fever sets in - it’s unclear where the real danger lies: inside, outside, or possibly both. Unlike Cloverfield, this film is set almost entirely inside a few small rooms, creating an achingly claustrophobic and suspenseful atmosphere.

Each week, Jeremy and the Kyle Files team get to the heart of the matter as they work with the emergency services, film covertly, interview victims and confront protagonists to demand answers.

Cannabis: In this episode Jeremy investigates whether cannabis should be made legal in the UK. He goes out with the police on a dawn cannabis raid – witnessing police arresting a suspect at one address and finding a huge haul of marijuana plants at another house. He also interviews a police woman who admits that she gives her terminally ill son illegal cannabis oils, follows Jeff, who risks arrest by supplying the oils, and visits an illegal ‘cannabis cafe’.

Reporter Bronagh Munro investigates how a teenage gap year student became one of Britain’s worst ever paedophiles.

In 2016, 30-year-old Richard Huckle was imprisoned after being convicted at the Old Bailey of abusing 23 children in Malaysia and Cambodia. Working as an English teacher and posing as a Christian, Huckle raped and sexually assaulted vulnerable and poor children of all ages. On the dark web, he shared tens of thousands of images of his crimes, boasted about them and even published a manual for paedophiles.

This film investigates how Huckle escaped detection for nearly a decade and reveals that he could have been stopped earlier. Following Huckle’s trail to India, where his movements have not been investigated by the authorities, Munro uncovers potentially previously undetected crimes. The film asks whether Huckle also abused children in Britain and reveals that the true count of his victims is likely to number into the hundreds.

How to dress your windows DRESSING the windows of your property is a vital part of your interior design, for a number of reasons.

In Tenerife, at least some of your windows are likely to be patio doors. They take up a large part of the room, and the colour, style and pattern you choose will have a huge influence on the rest of the decoration.

One of the biggest problems is deciding on the style you want to achieve.

Years ago, big swags and tails used to be popular, both in the UK and here, but their opulent style, and the use of lots of material, is better suited to colder climates, where their purpose is to keep out the cold.

Nowadays, people have moved more towards simplistic window dressings, such as eyelet curtains, and roller or vertical blinds. This really comes down to your personal taste. Some people will find blinds too clinical and “officey”, whereas others may prefer them to gathered drapes, full of pattern or colour.

In addition, it depends what you expect to achieve from your window dressings.

For example, one of the primary purposes might be to make the room dark and cosy at night, but, for example, if you have

issues of privacy, you might prefer to choose something to work for you.

For example, if your property faces onto a neighbouring house, or people walk past and can see in, you might be better using either vertical or venetian blinds, because the slats can be angled to allow light in, while still maintaining your privacy.

This is also a very useful way of keeping the sun off your TV at certain times of day. Nets, or voiles as they are now called, can do the same job, but would need to be permanently closed to perform the same function.

Because of our lovely climate here in Tenerife, another purpose of curtains can be to keep the heat out - the opposite of the UK! Suncurtains can do this job for you, and you can draw them across at certain times of day, or when you go out, to keep the warmth from the room.

They are also extreme-

ly useful if you decide you want a siesta, or to get young children off to bed early during our long, summer evenings.

Sun-curtains used to be made of silver plastic, which reflected the light and heat back out, but they weren’t very attractive.

Nowadays, there are curtains available in plain colours that have a “black-out” centre layer that performs the same function, but is more in keeping with your colour scheme.

For anyone who is prepared to take care and give some thought to their interior decoration, there simply is no beating madeto-measure window dressings. A sense of proportion will make something look just right, without necessarily understanding why.

Ideally, curtaining or blinds should be positioned halfway between the top of the window frame and the ceiling, and have adequate width to cover the sides of

the windows, and look balanced.

The exception to this is when designers use full-length curtains, or wider ones, to visually change the look of a room.

make a difference, and are often not as expensive as you may think.

Unfortunately, it’s not unusual to see a lovely, decorating scheme spoiled by ready-made curtains or blinds

that don’t really fit.

Spring means kittens!

SPRING is right around the corner, and it brings with it an important consideration for your cat.

With spring comes longer days. The sun comes up earlier, and stays up longer.

The increasing day length plays with cats' hormones, and the result is kittens; and lots of them! Of course, they are cute and cuddly, and everybody loves them.

But they grow up to be adult cats quickly.

Before long, kittens start making kittens of their own. A female can come into heat and become pregnant as early as 5-6 months of age. Male kittens generally become fertile about the same time.

A female cat can become pregnant with a new litter while she is

still nursing and caring for her previous litter.

She can have several litters in the course of a year! Female cats are very vocal when they come on heat, and living with a cat that is in heat is not a pleasant experience.

The same can be said of male cats. Males have strong, smelly urine and can develop undesirable habits like urine spraying. Though spraying can occur in neutered males as well

as in females, neutering your male cat definitely reduces the possibility of this behavior occurring.

There are also health benefits. Female cats spayed prior to their first heat cycle have a significantly-lower risk of mammary cancer, later in life. The risk of a severe, uterine infection, known as pyometra, is removed completely when your cat is spayed.

Refuel the right way

By Tara Scarlata THIS tucked-away little gem is located inside the Activate Sports Club, opposite the impressive Baobab Suites in Costa Adeje.

It’s a great chill-out area, perfect for a tasty lunch, drinks with friends, or to fill up after a good workout. The Fuel Restobar is easy to find. And, being just a few minutes off the TF1, it’s easy to get to, with plenty of parking, both on-street, and off.

The first thing to notice is the tranquil atmosphere, as soon as you walk in. The place is modern with a natural flair, and it’s very openplan, overlooking an inside beach area for the whole family to enjoy.

The setting is very much like the menu; a connection with the natural environment means that the outside is brought inside.

Judith and I both enjoy eating healthily, so we stopped here for a late lunch. We were greeted with a huge smile from our very helpful server, who talked us through some of the drinks, and made some recommendations.

A first look at the menu gave us a pleasant surprise; there is a great range for vegetarians and vegans, and they cater for those on gluten-free diets. Alongside the main menu, there is also a Tapas menu for lighter bites. If you are looking to just pop in for

a drink, they have a fully-stocked bar, as well as a great range of healthy smoothies, and some light, refreshing watermixers; the raspberry and rosemary is to-diefor. We started with a selection of starters.

The hummus, served with crudités, was thick and rich in flavour, and paired with seaweed bread. It was delicious.

The beautifully-presented spring rolls were a treat for the eyes, as well as the taste buds. They weren’t the normal, heavy, greasy, Chinese version, but light, ricepaper rolls, stuffed full

of a Quinoa Tabbouleh (Lebanese salad with onions and tomatoes).

Our third dish was the Bruschetta, with tomato and Jamon Iberico.

What really made this dish come alive was the green-tea-andorange bread, which went perfectly with the sweet tomatoes, and the smoky, salty flavour of the Jamon.

Onto the mains, and we had the Asian Wok to share, with free-range chicken. This was a good serving, packed full of

chicken and vegetables with a lovely, deep, soy flavour. To accompany the main, we had the creamy, sweet-potato mash, which had a nutty flavour from the locally-grown potatoes.

It was a great portion, and we got all the comfort of regular mash without all the calories. Healthy and yummy - we all win!

Then came another side which our server was very excited to tell us about. It was lots of little, special treats on a plate; no, we are not talking about dessert, we are talking about vegetables!

The mini, ecological vegetables are all grown on the island, in Granadilla. The mini aubergines, carrots, courgettes, bell peppers - and more were amazing, and you could taste the freshness. They were not complicated with any sauces or dips because they didn’t need it; they taste fantastic by themselves.

While waiting for the mains to go down, we turned again to the setting, and how it suits so many. Both of us have children who would love the beach area, while we could enjoy a glass of wine and a girly chat, then fill the kids up with healthy meals.

We saw many families and groups of friends coming in and enjoying the environment. It’s hassle-free, and, when the sun begins to set, it just gets that little bit more special.

So back to the desserts, and we finished with a bang - the Quesillo. If you are expecting the standard, heavy, Tenerife Quesillo (caramel flan), then think again.

This was beautifully presented, with layers of Greek yoghurt and fresh passionfruit, and topped with a Quesillo mousse.

It was my favourite dish of the meal. All three layers worked in complete harmony with one another, with the tartness of the yoghurt, the sweetness of the mousse, and the rich passionfruit.

It’s a really nice change at the end of a meal to feel completely full up, but not over-indulged.

The food here is good for you, and it fuels your body in the right way. They use highquality, locally-sourced ingredients, and it’s clear they don’t add extra calories and sugar to the meals, to try to enhance the flavour.

CD Tenerife review

INTENSITY is the mantra of CD Tenerife coach Joseba Etzeberria, who preaches it to his players, and promises it to the fans!

But what a beauty it is in action, and this success over Lugo demonstrated that the players are buying into his beliefs. They battled for every ball, pushed up to deny the visitors any breaks, and worked so hard for each other.

This third game in for the new coach saw him give chances to more of the squad, to deny any thoughts of complacency to keep everyone on the same page.

Carlos Ruiz took over in the heart of defence from Jorge Saenz, January’s Player of the Month, while Vitolo and Suso, surprise omissions from the previous week’s travelling squad, were back on the bench and hungry for action.

A 24-hour match delay, because of the storms, wasn’t enough for vital cog Luis Milla to recover from injury. But, with Alberto showing such inspired form in midfield, the team balance was good.

Alex Hula, in the first Tenerife attack, was unlucky to see his shot flash by the Lugo post, just before play switched to the other end.

After just 12 minutes, it could have sown doubts in Tenerife minds. But an equaliser soon followed, as Leuko fouled Acosta in the area. Longo, new custodian of the spot-kicks, stepped up and placed the ball in the bottom corner, past the keeper’s reach.

Lugo were in trouble now, and their answer to Tenerife’s creative play was theatrical falls and crunching tackles, with Bernardo leading a charmed life, as he hacked away at Longo.

But the Italian took it all

in his stride, and battled even harder. And it was his superior jump that won the ball for Juan Villar, who slipped in and deceived the keeper for a home lead.

Lugo managed a couple of half-chances, with striker Chuli, on Tenerife’s summer shopping list, making space for himself. But he found Dani ready to show him a clean pair of gloves.

The ref seemed to be making up the rules as he went along, because, just prior to the break, he appeared to award a penalty against Azeez for a foul on Juan

Villar, only to change his mind.

The 9,310 crowd were looking forward to more home goals, and the team came back out from the break in confident mood, Acosta playing high up the field and forcing a finger-tip save from Carlos. Tenerife’s new work-rate was never more obvious than that displayed by Alex Mula. He covered so much ground, chasing seeminglylost causes, and was always ready to come to the aid of the defence.

Mula’s touch was so infec-

tious that he even tempted the more-steady workhorses to play to his tune.

He fed Alberto on the hour, and his nifty backheel found Acosta, whose shot squeezed past the keeper, but hit the post and wobbled across the goalmouth. However, a grateful Mula was on hand to pop it home.

Coach Joseba gave Acosta, Juan Villar and Mula a rest, and unleashed subs Vitolo, Suso and Tayron. And Suso could have scored with his first touch: a typically-cheeky run in from the right, with Tayron taking up residence on the left.

As Tenerife adjusted to the changes, Lugo enjoyed their best spell. But Dani slammed the door on their hopes with a terrific save, low down, to keep them at bay. The game was won, but it was good to see the Tenerife players still giving it their all, right to the final whistle.

They consolidated their 12th place to push relegation concerns further aside, but more upward thoughts will still be measured by away form.

WHEN you’re on form, you don’t want games cancelled, which is why resurgent CD Marino were pleased that their game at Haria, in Lanzarote, was played on Saturday.

but what a week it was! As always, the Scots played fantastic pool, and won the overall event 54-31.

Tenerife played superbly, but simply couldn’t match their annual rivals. Yet we did have a few players who shone brightly.

Phil Evans (Legends B) won five of his six games; Jimmy Mcdaid (Legends A) won four, and Alan Rowe (Nauta Rejects) also clinched the same number.

Sunday’s competition started from scratch, with 19 players on each team.

At the halfway mark, Tenerife led 10-9, and looked as though they could claim their first victory of the annual series against the Scots.

But midway through the second half it was 14-14, and you could feel the at-

Two of the top teams met, as Phoenix Bar welcomed Boothen, and, in a close match which didn’t reflect the score, they emerged 5-2 victors.

In the Handicap Cup final, Phoenix will meet Pas O Nadas B, who impressed by dispatching Naughty Nautas 6-1 to continue their fantastic season, and ensure that more trophies adorn the shelves of

their new, improved darts’ room.

The Loch-In B found double-trouble when Gaffers visited them. They were first to a finish on nearly every leg, but, sadly, could not take their opportunities. It left Gaffers cashing in on their misfortune to emerge 6-1 winners, Joe weighing in with a 180.

Waiting to meet them are Division 2 Buzzin B’s.

They hosted Waterfall and showed no mercy to opponents from the higher division, running out 5-2 winners, despite some close games.

Congratulations to the finalists, and commiserations to those who didn’t quite make it.

There were a few catch-up games, which saw Scruffy Macs host The Pub, and consolidate their league position with a 5-3 victory.

Pas O Nadas A welcomed Ourplace Playboys, and Daddy Cool was on form again with a superb 142 check-out, inspiring the home team to a 7-1 success.

Marilyns B team travelled a short distance to be entertained by the Playgirls.

But Marilyns did the entertaining, and came away with a 7-1 win.

The Tavern A, playing a match a week early, travelled to Picasso’s, and, in yet another match which could have gone either way, they returned home with a 5-3 win.

Inline Hockey

Guanches aim for gold LAS GALLETAS is nurturing a sporting revolution.

Arona’s popular fishing village became a mecca for inline hockey players last weekend, as the National Silver League arrived for 12 games, featuring eight teams from across Spain.

For home side Tenerife Guanches, it was a chance to boost their credentials for promotion to the elite Gold League.

Think ice hockey, without ice, and you’re halfway to understanding the excitement, skill, and power of the sport.

Instead of blades, skaters propel themselves with four inline wheels on each boot,

and the clock stops with breaks in play to ensure two full periods of 20 minutes.

There was a real buzz that spilled over outside the sports hall to the extra, tented changing rooms,

draped in and out with drying kit, as players caught their breath in a busy schedule.

The league’s unique answer to uniting teams from mainland Spain, and its furthest outpost of Tenerife, is for each club to host three rounds of fixtures over a weekend.

The Las Galletas gathering had games from noon until 9.15pm on Saturday, finishing with a planned 9am Sunday start to squeeze in the last four games in plenty of time

for teams to fly home.

Nature threw a bit of a spanner in the works with Sunday’s storms, which forced the cancellation of the final games in the leaky sports hall.

Tenerife Guanches (named after the original warrior tribes of the island) looked in good form, when they opened their account with an 11-3 victory over Lostregos Lucos. Coming back from a 2-1 deficit to level at the end of the first half, Guanches pulled

clear with some wellworked team plays.

They had a bigger squad than their rivals, whose beleaguered net-minder had no back-up to call on from the bench.

Two-minute, sin-bin penalties were few and far between, and fighting is not tolerated, despite the hardfought play.

There was a mix of ages and backgrounds in the Tenerife team, with two Slovakian players, including latest signing Matej Raduskovsky, adding experience from their home leagues.

The team had plenty of young players watching in club T-

shirts, while, outside, near the makeshift kit camp, several youngsters scrimmaged for fun.

The Saturday evening game brought Tenerife a 4-0 win over Catalan’s SAB Tucans ASME team. Those victories put Tenerife joint-top of the league with 28 points, giving them a great shot at promotion.

There’s definitely a growing interest surrounding inline hockey in Tenerife, and the Guanches are always looking for new recruits.
