reach maximum impact to the society (1880’s - 1980’s). However, the digital photography taking the pace towards a spike development to the peak of photography history in a much shorter period of 20 years (1998 - 2018). However, the imminent threat of photography is on the other side of a coin. According to Tokyo’s Olympic in 2020, the broadcast technology will reach 8K resolution. In the public eyes, it could be only the number but the photography business might see otherwise. Due to the 8K video recording and broadcasting system, any moment on 8K screen can be capture and print out full pixel of 7680p × 4320p* or 33.18 Megapixel. Pro-consumer level DSLR in 2018 has similar resolution, which means traditional photography might be unnecessary. The 8K broadcast system could be the dawn of new medium of communication and the dusk of traditional photography. The project aim to experiment a 6K video recording experience with the fine art theme: Reform - Elements. (Equivalent to 25.6”x14.4” at 300DPI or approximately A2 paper)

Project objective:

4.1 To explore the 6K video recording (8K camera is not yet in the market) 4.2 To compare the photography and a screenshot from video recording.

Concept:

The impermanent circle of photography industry demonstrates one of the earliest concept in the nature, Changes of state. The project aims to use an approach in video recording to capture the very moment when one state reaches the condition to reform into another state. Gas - Liquid - Solid The goal is to capturing videography and reform it into photography

Process of art or design works

6.1 Recreate the natural scene where Gas turns into Liquid, Liquid turns into Solid and Solid turns into Gas.

6.2 Set the production with the dark background environment. 6.3 Use macro lens to capture the changes of state 6.4 Calculate the speed of subject for appropriate shutter speed and settings. 6.4 Set 3-points-lighting technique for the production.

Material and techniques of art or design works

7.1 Panasonic GH5 with 6K Photo function 7.2 2K Light, 800w Lights 7.3 Tripods, Light stand and production accessories 7.4 Post process software: Adobe Photoshop, In-Camera 6K Photo export mode

Pictures of art and design works

Changes of State: Solid springs into Gas

Changes of State: Gas condensed into Liquid

Changes of State: Liquid formed into Solid

Knowledge after finished produce art or design works The 6K Photo mode demonstrate the capability to capture the moment that Liquid, Gas, Solid states are changing to another. The settings were at shutter speed 1/3000, f4 ISO 320 and 30 FPS on Video recording, not photography. The study shows the screen capture can be applied to photograph effectively. As a result, other subjects can be applied for live capture accordingly. In camera software allows to fine select the frame without external software. As a demonstration for consumer level to experience the function and print out a high resolution photography from video file. In conclusion, the project reflects the hypothesis of the experiment that the transition from photography to video and vice versa is highly possible and could lead to a new medium of visual communication.
