NATURE EDUCATION

INDIANA MASTER NATURALIST

The IMN program offers hands-on opportunities to learn about our natural resources. The mission of the IMN program is to bring together natural resource specialists with adult learners to foster an understanding of Indiana’s plants, water, soils and wildlife while promoting volunteer service in local communities. To complete the IMN program, you must attend at least 6 of the 8 classes and complete 24 volunteer hours within one year of taking the class. At the completion of the course, you will receive an official IMN certificate and pin.

RIVERS DAY: HAZEL LANDING PARK

Celebrate the White River which has connected our community through many generations, and still does to this day! The White River plays an integral role in our community as a place of beauty and inspiration, a source of drinking water, recreation, and the habitat for many species of fish and wildlife that call it home.

Take a hike with us along the White River to observe the river’s beauty while we also celebrate its history and ecology. We hope to foster a deeper connection and appreciation for this precious resource!

NATURE STEWARDSHIP

POLLINATOR PARTNERSHIP

NATIVE SEED PR OJECT  VOLUNTEER Project Wingspan is an initiative supported by a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Federation. It is administered by the non-profit Pollinator Partnership, which is leading a coalition of partners in an effort to enhance land across the Midwest to support our imperiled pollinators – especially monarch butterflies and rusty patched bumblebee. You can help us make a difference!

All seed that is collected will be shipped to the main nursery with Pollinator Partnership where it will be processed (cleaned and sorted) and distributed to predetermined conservation areas to help these pollinators survive.

WORLD HABITAT DAY TREE PLANTING VOLUNTEER

The purpose of World Habitat Day is to reflect on the basic rights of all to adequate shelter. It is intended to remind the world that we all have the power and responsibility to shape the future of our cities and towns. Habitat for plants and animals is a very important aspect of our ecosystem. Removing non-native plants and replacing them with native species is a way to provide essential food and shelter for the wildlife that call our parks home. Come join us for an afternoon of planting trees in the Vera Hinshaw Park & Preserve. This 10-acre woodland is adjacent to the Monon Trail and north of the 96th Street Trailhead. All ages are welcome! AMERICA RECYCLES DAY  VOLUNTEER

The concepts of reducing, reusing, and recycling are more relevant today than ever before. More and more often we hear about drastic changes in the natural environment caused in part by pollution - and we certainly have a hefty role to play. The United States has the third-largest population of all countries, but it produces the most municipal solid waste in the world: 258 million tons of MSW were generated in 2017 alone. The good news is that since we are such a big part of the problem - we can be an even greater part of the solution. Join us during America Recycles Week to learn about the importance of recycling and partner with us to clean up our parks and greenways! All ages are welcome! Volunteers under the age of 16 must volunteer with a parent/guardian.

PICKLEBALL LADDER LEAGUE

The Co-Ed Pickleball Ladder League format is designed to create new matchups each week and have players play with players of similar skill levels. Weekly rankings are based on performance. Players will move up or down the ladder based on wins/losses (not points scored). Each week, players will start in groups of four in the order of ladder ranking. After each game to 11, the winning partnership will move up the ladder and the losing partnership will move down. Partners swap each game. There is a maximum of three wins each league night. After each team’s three games have been played, open play is allowed for the remainder of the time slot when courts are available. Top two players will get free enrollment to the next season of the league. No class on 9/5.
