gentleman and scientist Dr. Givings has innocently invented an extraordinary new device for treating "hysteria" in women (and occasionally men): the vibrator. Adjacent to the doctor's laboratory, his young and energetic wife tries to tend to their newborn daughter-and wonders exactly what is going on in the next room. When a new "hysterical" patient and her husband bring a wet nurse and their own complicated relationship into the doctor's home, Dr. and Mrs. Givings must examine the nature of their own marriage, and what it truly means to love someone. This laugh out loud, provocative and touching play will take Trustus patrons on an "arousing" journey through the depths of the heart.
Avenue Q: July 15-21. Winner of the TONY "TRIPLE CROWN" for BEST MUSICAL, BEST SCORE and BEST BOOK, Avenue Q is part flesh, part felt, and packed with heart. Avenue Q is a laugh-outloud musical that tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. There, he meets Kate (the girl next door), Rod (the Republican), Trekkie (the internet sexpert), Lucy the Slut (need we say more?), and other colorful types who help Princeton finally discover his purpose in life! Featuring puppets by Columbia Marionette Theatre's Lyon Hill, Avenue Q will leave you rolling in the aisles with the most original experience in the Midlands this summer.
Almost an Evening: June 20-30. From popular filmmaker and screenwriter Ethan Cohen comes a hilarious evening of one-acts. In Almost an Evening, three short plays unsuccessfully tackle important questions. In Waiting, someone waits somewhere for a long time - is it Heaven or Hell? In Four Benches, a voyage to selfdiscovery takes a British intelligence agent to steam baths in New York and Texas, and to park benches in the U.S. and U.K. In Debate, cosmic questions are taken up as an actor plays a challenging role: GOD. Not much is learned, but boy, it's a good time!
The Palace of the Moorish Kings: August 10-18. Based on a short story by Evans S. Connell, this play is about the extent to which we get to choose how we live-or the extent to which we are programmed or brainwashed to live a certain way. It's 1970, and the Vietnam War is still raging. Old friends from high school-a doctor, a bank president, a contractor and an ad man, plus their wives-gather for the Thanksgiving ritual of gorging themselves and watching football. They are all pushing 50. Hard. On that fateful day, they get a call from JD, their old high school chum who tells

them he's given up his world travels (about which he's sent many letters and photos) and that he's coming back-and would they please make room for him? Now JD is old. And so are they. Lexington County Community Emergency Response Team
Richland County Conservation Commission
The Community Emergency Response Team, is a national program that educates and trains citizens to assist communities in recovery efforts after an emergency or disaster. Lexington County CERT members don't replace vital first responders, but are trained to assist before first responders are available. They step aside when first responders arrive, and then assist those affected by connecting them with volunteer and other organizations so they can best deal with the consequences of that event. Lives are saved, further tragedy is prevented, situations are better managed as they occur, and the community can better help one another because of this program. To find out more or to get involved, visit www.citizencorps.gov/cert. You can contact the Lexington County CERT Program at 803-785-8343 or www.lex-co.sc.gov/emd/cert

Disorders of sleep (like Sleep Apnea) and Wakefulness (like Narcolepsy) are more common and serious than people realize. Many patients assume that problems like bad snoring, insomnia and daytime drowsiness are “just the way I am”, and therefore not real diseases that require evaluation. In fact, these sleep conditions are not only annoying to patients (and others nearby), but also impair mental and physical function, impact job performance, and pose major health risks. For example, people with Sleep Apnea are 6 times more likely to die prematurely. So if you or someone you love has trouble sleeping, breathing issues at night, restless in bed, twitching of the limbs, sleep talking, drowsiness upon waking, bothersome daytime sleepiness, or morning aches and pains, call us at 788.7884 to schedule a “Sleep Medicine Consultation”. All are welcome, even if not currently registered with our Practice.
Getting enough sleep?
Neither are fun, but one is avoidable. Hydration is important all year long, but is especially important in the summer because the risk of heat illness increases. Staying hydrated helps keep your body temperature at normal levels, lubricates and cushions your joints, protects your spinal cord and other sensitive tissues, and gets rid of wastes through certain body functions. Your body needs even more water than usual in hot climates, during physical activity, and when you're sick. Thirst is a signal your body is already getting dehydrated-so drink regularly, not just when you feel thirsty. How much water each person needs depends on things like personal health, activity level, and where one lives. Most men need about 13 cups of water every day, while women need about 9 each day. www.cdc.gov & www.mayoclinic.com

The Downtown YMCA is all about health and fitness. After a grueling session of "Fit to be Corps," "Boot Camp," or an intense game of basketball, you have nothing to prove to anyone. We get it-you're tough! But being fit isn't very sexy if you're still carrying around missed deadlines, last weekend's fatigue, or anything else. Stress is not macho. So, try out a "Men's Massage" and work out all that tension. A certified massage therapist is available to help you relax, rejuvenate, and recover. 1420 Sumter Street. 803-799-9187. Prices vary for Men's Health Club members and non-members. [www.columbiaymca.org]

A common misunderstanding is that you must have a physician's formal referral to schedule an appointment with a specialist. In many medical specialties, that's not the case. Take fertility, for example. Many couples may want to understand their options but are not sure if they need treatment. A simple consultation can be highly educational and comes with no commitment. "We see ourselves as both clinicians and teachers," says Gail Whitman-Elia, M.D., of Advanced Fertility in West Columbia. "With our brandnew West Columbia, stand-alone practice, we welcome people to walk in and request information or make an appointment for a consultation." Couples who have been trying for a while to get pregnant reach a point where they have questions. A fertility specialist offers the latest information with no requirement for a referral. Need advice? Call and check with the appropriate specialist. You may find that no referral is needed.

Buddy Call is a nationally recognized program promoting monthly breast self-exam and the early detection of breast cancer. Palmetto Health and WLTX have partnered for more than a decade to bring Buddy Call to women of the Midlands, and are pleased to offer a free breast health information kit to women who register. To participate in Buddy Call, choose a buddy (a friend, relative or coworker), place a reminder sticker on your calendars on the 19th of each month, and follow the guidelines on the breast self-exam shower card. Remember, early detection is the best protection. The Palmetto Health Breast Center is the largest of its kind in the southeast, performing nearly 50,000 mammograms a year. They diagnose and treat more cancers-including small cancers-than anyone else in the state. To register for Buddy Call, visit www.buddycall19.com or call 803-647-0216. To learn more about Palmetto Health Breast Center, visit www.palmettohealth.org/breastcenter or call 803-296-CARE.
