Carissimi lettori di Carnet abbiamo il piacere di accompagnarvi ancora una volta in un una road map fatta di eventi, curiosità e grandi appuntamenti, a cui la città di Verona e il Lago di Garda ci hanno abituato. Non ci saranno solo eventi, ma vi porteremo alla conoscenza anche di storie, luoghi e racconti, che ci ricordano quanto sia importante ricordare, ascoltare e condividere. Sarà l’ultima edizione di Gardasee per l’anno 2024, e con piacere colgo l’occasione di annunciarvi che per la stagione 2025 il numero di Carnet Gardasee non sarà più abbinato al suo fratello maggiore Carnet Verona, ma uscirà con un numero dedicato per raccontare non solo la parte veronese del Benaco, ma spazieremo varcando i confini veronesi e racconteremo di come tantissime iniziative, luoghi ed eventi animano la sponda bresciana e trentina. Seguiteci sempre sui nostri canali social per scoprire quello che purtroppo non siamo riusciti a imprimere sulla carta, e come sempre buona lettura, buon Carnet!

RISTORI THEATRE: THE MAGIC OF CHRISTMAS WITH ITS DINNER SHOWS

Dopo il successo delle scorse edizioni, tornano le Cene Spettacolo del Teatro Ristori che il 6, 20 e 27 dicembre si trasformerà in un club esclusivo con cene a tema in un’atmosfera sofisticata ed elegante. Preludio, tra arte in tavola e arte in scena, alle festività natalizie. Il primo, imperdibile, appuntamento sarà con i Neri Per Caso, vincitori del Festival di Sanremo 1995, gruppo “a cappella” specializzato nel canto senza l’utilizzo di strumenti. “Natale per caso”, un live d’eccezione dedicato ai grandi classici della tradizione natalizia. Il 20 tornerà l’energia e spiritualità dell’ormai tradizionale appuntamento Gospel che da anni anima la platea del teatro nel mese di dicembre: quest’edizione vedrà protagonista il coro californiano JP & the Soul Voices¸ che grazie alla loro energia e alle stupende voci
sapranno coinvolgere il pubblico partecipante portandolo a vivere un’atmosfera di grande festa e gioia unica. Il 27 dicembre la rassegna chiuderà con lo spettacolo acrobatico, di danza, comico e musicale dei Black Blues Brothers. Le acrobazie mozzafiato dei cinque artisti hanno ormai superato le 700 repliche fra prestigiosi teatri,
festival internazionali, grandi eventi e programmi televisivi. Il Teatro Ristori è dunque pronto ad accogliere i propri spettatori, nel mese più magico dell’anno, per fargli vivere un’esperienza unica nel suo genere.

Torna il tradizionale concerto di Capodanno viennese al Teatro Ristori
Grandissimo ritorno nel cartellone del Ristori con il tradizionale Concerto di Capodanno per festeggiare l’arrivo del 2025 immersi nelle atmosfere viennesi d’altri tempi. Grazie a I Virtuosi Italiani. il concerto del 1° gennaio alle ore 17, sarà dedicato al mondo viennese e austro-ungarico con una sequenza di Valzer e Polke. Il concerto vedrà inoltre la partecipazione di due cantanti e sarà in totale sintonia con la tradizione degli Strauss, che invece di dirigere utilizzando la tradizionale bacchetta, lo facevano impugnando il violino utilizzando l’archetto e suonando personalmente alcune parti principali. L’occasione per condividere un’esperienza gioiosa, ascoltando dal vivo

After the success of previous editions, the Dinner Shows are back at Teatro Ristori, which on 6, 20 and 27 December will be transformed into an exclusive club. A prelude, between art on the table and art on stage, to the Christmas festivities. The first, unmissable event will be with Neri Per Caso, winners of the 1995 Sanremo Festival, an ‘a cappella’ group specialising in singing without the use of instruments. ‘Natale per caso’, an exceptional live show dedicated to the great classics of the Christmas tradition. On the 20th, the energy and spirituality of the now traditional Gospel event that for years has enlivened the theatre audience in the month of December will return: this edition will feature the californian choir JP & the Soul Voices¸ whose energy and stupendous voices will will entertain but also
involve the audience, leading them to experience an atmosphere of great festivity and unique joy. On 27 December, the festival will close with the acrobatic, dance, comedy and musical show of the Black Blues Brothers. The breathtaking acrobatics of the five artists have now exceeded 700 performances in prestigious theatres, international festivals, major events and television programmes.
The Ristori Theatre is therefore ready to welcome its spectators, in the most magical month of the year, to give them a unique experience.

The traditional viennese New Year concert returns to the Ristori Theatre
A great return to the Ristori’s programme with the traditional New Year’s Concert to celebrate the arrival of 2025 immersed in the Viennese atmosphere will be in action. Thanks to I Virtuosi Italiani. the concert on 1 January at 5 pm will be dedicated to the Viennese and Austro-Hungarian world with a sequence of Waltzes and Polkas. DEL TEATRO A VERONA RACCONTA L’UMANO
NOVEMBER: THE BEST OF THEATRE IN VERONA TELLS THE HUMAN STORY

Novembre si preannuncia un mese di nuovi inizi per il teatro veronese, con l’inaugurazione delle principali rassegne teatrali al chiuso della città, accomunate dalla voglia di raccontare vizi e virtù dell’umano in modo serio o scanzonato. Al Teatro Nuovo iniziano entrambe le storiche rassegne Il Grande Teatro e Divertiamoci a teatro. Dal 5 al 10 novembre, “Ciarlatani” di Pablo Remón, esilarante commedia di cui sono interpreti Silvio Orlando, Francesca Botti, Francesco Brandi e Blu Yoshimi. I protagonisti sono Anna e Diego ed entrambi attraversano una crisi personale. Lei è un’attrice di teatro la cui carriera è in declino, lui un regista affermato di film commerciali. Ciò che accomuna le loro storie è una figura comune: il regista cult degli anni Ottanta Eusebio Velasco, padre di Anna
e maestro di Diego, scomparso e isolato dal mondo. La rassegna prosegue con un classico di Eduardo De Filippo: dal 19 al 24 novembre “La Grande Magia”, con Natalino Balasso e Michele Di Mauro e la regia di Gabriele Russo, è un testo complesso, che offre un occhio sulle sfumature nere dell’umanità. Il protagonista Calogero Di Spelta è un uomo smarrito in un mondo che sembra altrettanto confuso che ha bisogno di aggrapparsi a certezze granitiche a costo di rinchiuderle simbolicamente in una scatola, come la moglie.

Al Teatro Nuovo va in scena il divertimento con la comicità
Per la rassegna Divertiamoci a Teatro, dal 12 al 15 novembre va in scena “Gli Insospettabili“ di Anthony Shaffer, con Claudio (Greg) Gregori e Fabio Troiano. Una dark comedy brillante che racconta l’incontro tra uno scrittore di gialli e l’amante della moglie nella casa di campagna, una partita all’ultimo sangue tra due uomini in lotta per il possesso di una donna, protagonista invisibile della storia. Continua il filone divertente nel periodo natalizio con “Natale&Franz Show”, dal 26 al 29 novembre, con il duo comico Ale e Franz, che ci condurranno nelle atmosfere natalizie. Uno spettacolo di puro divertimento, che unisce pezzi di repertorio, musica dal vivo, canzoni e tante risate.
Teatro Camploy tra teatro e danza
Inaugura il 22 novembre anche la rassegna del Teatro Camploy L’Altro Teatro con “Overload“ di Sotterraneo, migliore spettacolo secondo il premio Ubu 2018 che mette in scena lo scrittore americano David Foster Wallace nell’atto di pronunciare un discorso. Una riflessione su come viviamo in un mondo aumentato dai media, sovrastimolati dalle informazioni e in continuo stato di allerta. Il 29 novembre va in scena la danza della compagnia veronese ErsiliaDanza diretta dalla coreografa
Laura Corradi. “Un bel coraggio” è uno spettacolo che si chiede cosa significhi avere coraggio, quali siano gli ingredienti che lo compongono, così potenti da farci cambiare lo sguardo sulla realtà e far apparire realizzabile ogni desiderio.
Infine, continua la rassegna L’Altro Teatro City in cui i professionisti veronesi della scena si mettono in rete, per offrire l‘Altro Teatro della città. Il 15 novembre Ippogrifo Produzioni porta in scena “Lo facevo anch’io”, scritto e diretto da Alberto Rizzi, una cavalcata nel mondo dell’arte che parte dalle prime incisioni rupestri e giunge al mondo della crypto art, partendo dall’affermazione comune nell’immaginario collettivo davanti a moltissime opere di arte contemporanea: “Ma questo lo facevo anche io!”.

theatre reviews, united by the desire to recount the vices and virtues of the human in a serious or light-hearted manner. Both the historic reviews Il Grande Teatro and Divertiamoci a teatro begin at the Teatro Nuovo. From the 5th to the 10th November, ‘Ciarlatani’ by Pablo Remón, a hilarious comedy starring Silvio Orlando, Francesca Botti, Francesco Brandi, and and Blu Yoshimi will be present. The protagonists are Anna and Diego and both are going through a personal crisis. She is a theatre actress whose career is in decline, he an established director of commercial films. The similarities of their story is a common future: the cult 1980s director Eusebio Velasco, Anna‘s father and Diego‘s teacher, who has disappeared and is isolated from the world.
The review continues with a classic by Eduardo De Filippo: from the 19th to 24th of November, ‘La Grande Magia’, with Natalino Balasso and Michele Di Mauro and directed by Gabriele Russo, such review is a complex text that offers an insight into the black shades of humanity. The protagonist Calogero Di Spelta is a man lost in a world that seems equally confused. Calogero needs needs to cling to granitic certainties at the cost of symbolically locking them up in a box, like his wife.
Let‘s have fun with comedy at the Teatro Nuovo
For the Divertiamoci a Teatro programme, Anthony Shaffer‘s ‘Gli Insospettabili’, starring Claudio (Greg) Gregori and Fabio Troiano, will be on stage from 12 to 15 November. A brilliant dark comedy that recounts the encounter between a mystery writer and his wife‘s lover in a country house. The comedy is a game to the death between two men fighting for the possession of a woman, the story‘s invisible protagonist. The fun theme continues during the Christmas period with ‘Natale&Franz Show’, from the 26th to the 29th November, with the comedy duo Ale and Franz, who will take us into the Christmas atmosphere. A show of pure fun, combining repertoire pieces, live music, songs and lots of laughs.
Camploy Theatre between theatre and dance
On 22 November, Teatro Camploy‘s L‘Altro Teatro review will open with ‘Overload’ by Sotterraneo, the best show according to the 2018 Ubu prize, which puts American writer David Foster Wallace on stage in the act of making a speech. A reflection on how we live in a world augmented by the media, overstimulated by information and in a constant state of alertness. On 29 November, dance by the company ErsiliaDanza, directed by choreographer Laura Corradi, will be on stage. ‘Un bel coraggio’ (A beautiful courage) is a performance that asks what it means to have courage, what are the ingredients that make it up, so powerful as to make us change our gaze on reality and make every desire seem achievable.
Finally, the L‘Altro Teatro City review continues, in which Verona‘s theatre professionals network to offer the city‘s L‘Altro Teatro. On 15 November, Ippogrifo Produzioni will stage ‘Lo facciavo anch‘io’ (I used to do it too), written and directed by Alberto Rizzi, a ride through the world of art that starts from the first rock engravings and arrives at the world of crypto art, starting from the common affirmation in the collective imagination in front of many works of contemporary art: ‘But I used to do that too!

Un pastore protestante scopre l’adulterio della moglie Lina e deve scegliere fra divorzio e perdono. Il dramma borghese “da camera” di Giuseppe Verdi, che mette al centro della trama tradimenti, delitti e pentimenti, in un allestimento del Teatro Regio di Parma in coproduzione con Opéra de Monte-Carlo e la direzione del maestro Leonardo Sini.

La Cenerentola
La più bella delle favole e un grande classico dell’opera: La Cenerentola, capolavoro di Gioachino Rossini, torna sul palco del Teatro Filarmonico a dieci anni di distanza in un nuovo allestimento del Teatro del Maggio Fiorentino sotto la direzione del maestro Francesco Lanzillotta.

A Protestant pastor discovers his wife Lina’s adultery and must choose between divorce and forgiveness. Giuseppe Verdi’s ‘chamber’ bourgeois drama, which puts betrayal, crime and repentance at the centre of the plot, in a production by the Teatro Regio di Parma in co-production with Opéra de Monte-Carlo and conducted by maestro Leonardo Sini.

La Cenerentola
The most beautiful of fairytales and a great classic of opera: La Cenerentola, Gioachino Rossini’s masterpiece, returns to the stage of the Teatro Filarmonico ten years later in a new production by the Teatro del Maggio Fiorentino under the baton of maestro Francesco Lanzillotta.

CASA VACANZE SUL LAGO DI GARDA HOLIDAY HOME ON LAKE GARDA
Alcune domande sono superflue, quando il Lago di Garda è ai tuoi piedi. Per esempio questa: come immagini la nostra casa vacanze? Con ampie superfici vetrate e vista panoramica. Punto. E l’architetto Matteo Brighenti l’ha progettata proprio così: una casa in posizione leggermente collinare aperta verso il lago – con una facciata tutta di vetro suddivisa in tre ordini orizzontali, che sembra annullare i confini tra interno ed esterno. Almeno a livello visivo. Perché al più tardi quando il caldo sole estivo splende nel cielo o i temporali autunnali raggiungono
il lago più grande d’Italia, si apprezza particolarmente la protezione offerta dai serramenti. O come dice Brighenti: “La casa coniuga estetica e funzionalità con la massima tecnologia. Il contatto diretto con il lago era il nostro obiettivo primario, e così le finestre di Finstral hanno assunto un’importanza centrale nella progettazione.”
Questa moderna costruzione è concepita in modo che ogni ambiente affacci sul lago. Per ottenere la massima trasparenza possibile, sulla facciata sono state installate esclusivamente pareti vetrate FIN-Vista a scomparsa con anta apribile Cristal. In
questa soluzione, la lastra di vetro smaltato ricopre completamente i profili in alluminio, facendoli scomparire quasi del tutto. Così il serramento diventa un elemento di design che determina in modo decisivo la percezione dello spazio. Il cliente desiderava anche porte scorrevoli con ampie aperture per raggiungere comodamente la piscina al primo piano e la terrazza al secondo piano. Una volta di più: un abitare senza confini e con le pareti vetrate con angoli a vetro scelte per questo progetto, lo sguardo verso il lago e verso Torri del Benaco è molto più suggestivo.

Some questions are superfluous, when Lake Garda is at your feet. For example this one: How do you imagine our holiday home? With large glass surfaces and panoramic views. And the architect Matteo Brighenti has designed it just like that: a house in a slightly hilly position open towards the lakewith an all-glass façade divided into three horizontal rows, which seems to cancel out the boundaries between inside and outside. Because at the latest when the hot summer sun shines in the sky or autumn thunderstorms reach Italy’s largest lake, one particularly appreciates the
protection offered by the windows and doors. Or as Brighenti says: ‘The house combines aesthetics and functionality with the highest technology. Direct contact with the lake was our primary goal, and so Finstral’s windows played a central role in the design.’
This modern construction is designed so that every room overlooks the lake. To achieve the greatest possible transparency, only FIN-Vista retractable glass walls with Cristal opening sashes were installed on the façade. In this solution, the enamelled glass pane completely covers the aluminium
profiles, making them almost completely disappear. Thus, the window becomes a design element that decisively determines the perception of space. The customer also wanted sliding doors with large openings to comfortably reach the swimming pool on the first floor and the terrace on the second floor. Once more: living without boundaries and with the glass walls with glass corners chosen for this project, the view towards the lake and Torri del Benaco is much more impressive.

Nella seconda settimana di novembre dunque più di 140.000 visitatori tra atleti, appassionati o semplici curiosi potranno avvicinarsi a oltre 2.000 cavalli, scoprendo così la biodiversità nazionale, lo sviluppo del cavallo da sella italiano, gli esemplari di razza araba, americana e spagnola, senza dimenticare i cavalli Criolli, gli Shire e i Quarabs, tutti in mostra grazie alle 35
associazioni allevatoriali presenti. Dalla monta inglese si passa a quella americana con il Westernshow che, per questa edizione, si tinge di rosa grazie a competizioni di Barrel Racing e di Freestyle Reining riservate esclusivamente alla categoria Lady. Il ring a stelle e strisce permette, inoltre, di assistere anche a competizioni di Team Penning; oltre all’attesissima Fiera Cavalli Futurity Horse, dove sono presentati i giovani cavalli di 4 anni. The most important event in the international equestrian panorama will kick off from Thursday 7 to 10 November. The 126th edition will be once again staged as every year. It is the best of national and global sport at the Veronafiere Exhibition Centre, with a special focus on the youth nursery of Italian Show Jumping.
For sports enthusiasts, the Verona Exhibition Centre offers a rich programme of Show Jumping competitions over all four days of the event. Starting from Hall 8, which hosts not only the twentythird edition of Jumping Verona, the only Italian stage of the Longines FEI Jumping World CupTM, but also the finals of the Italian Champions Tour - the first national itinerant team circuit - and the 126th Fieracavalli Grand Prix, the special event dedicated to the best promising riders in Italian Show Jumping.
On the other hand, the best of Italy‘s youth sector is ready to compete in the FISE Arena. On the brink of seconds, in the competitions of the 36th Pony Regions Cup, the Pony Trophy, the Champions Cup, the Gold Champion Cup, the Future Cup, the Next Generation Pony, as well as the Master Sport, the Best Rider Progetto Sport and the highly anticipated 48th Grand Prix of Regions Under 21 will part of the event..
To see the great international champions prepare for the scheduled competitions. Moreover, do not miss the stopover in Hall 7 with the Longines FEI Jumping World CupTM test field and the new Fieracavalli Lab: a space dedicated to meetings with riders and amazons,
workshops and conventions.
Many innovations, therefore, also starting with a new look for the logo that, from a word, has been transformed into an evocative image where the stylised profile of a horse is framed by an arch - recalling those of the Verona Arena - so as to create an impactful, modern visual force capable of transforming passion into a true icon.
‘The renewal of the brand identity of Fieracavalli, our most iconic and beloved event, is the latest stage in a lasting commitment that VeronaFiere is pursuing to enhance and update the role and figure of the horse. In the second week of November, therefore, more than 140,000 visitors including athletes, enthusiasts and the curious will be able to get close to more than 2,000 horses, thus discovering national biodiversity, the development of the Italian saddle horse, Arabian, American and Spanish breeds, not forgetting Criollli, Shire and Quarabs
horses, all on show thanks to the 35 breeding associations present. From English riding we move on to American riding with the Westernshow that, for this edition, is tinged with thanks to Barrel Racing and Freestyle Reining competitions reserved exclusively for the Lady category. The stars and stripes ring also offers Team Penning competitions; in addition to the eagerly awaited Futurity Horse Fair, where young 4-year-old horses are presented. Finally, thanks to AIQH, all Appaloosa, Paint and Quarter Horse enthusiasts can attend Ranch Trail, Ranch Rail and Ranch Conformation demonstrations. But it doesn’t end here, because Fieracavalli ensures fun for lovers of the sector as well as fun for children. Thanks to a series of activities designed to entertain and introduce the many facets of the equestrian world, the fair is also an attraction for families. In fact, the Children’s Hall (Hall 1) hosts educational and training activities designed for the young ones, in addition to the ever-present Saddle Baptism and the Fieracavalli Ark. “ Persone, cultura, tecnologie. Per un nuovo Umanesimo europeo”. Aiutare i ragazzi ad essere protagonisti del cambiamento senza subirlo in un mondo chiamato a confrontarsi con l’intelligenza artificiale, le sue opportunità e i suoi rischi: è una delle grandi sfide a cui è chiamata a rispondere oggi la formazione. Perciò JOB&Orienta, salone nazionale dell’orientamento, la scuola, la formazione e il
lavoro, che accoglie ogni anno oltre 45mila visitatori, sceglie questo tema come centrale per la 33esima edizione, in programma da mercoledì 27 a sabato 30 novembre 2024 presso Veronafiere.
Abbiamo intervistato il coordinatore scientifico di JOB&Orienta Claudio Gentili per comprendere meglio questa sfida con cui si interfacciano la formazione e il mondo della scuola oggi.
Ci può spiegare meglio il titolo di questa 33esima edizione: “Persone, cultura, tecnologie. Per un nuovo Umanesimo europeo”?
Partiamo dal presupposto che la scuola non forma automi, ma persone e che le tecnologie sono spesso messe in contrapposizione all’umanità. In secondo luogo, molte indagini INVALSI e OCSE segnalano carenza di cultura nel nostro Paese.
Con questa associazione di parole vogliamo dare un orizzonte positivo perché l’Europa storicamente ha messo insieme queste dimensioni: la persona e l’Umanesimo, la civiltà

e l’innovazione tecnologica.
A scuola si impara, è la grande banca che trasmette la nostra eredità culturale e oggi questo si può fare accogliendo le sfide della tecnologia. Verso un nuovo Umanesimo Europeo.
Quali sono le novità più interessanti di questa edizione?
Come ogni anno anche questo vedrà numerose novità. Per darvi solo qualche anticipazione sul fronte organizzativo: senz’altro una rassegna espositiva sempre più ampia, che si sposta nei padiglioni 9 e 10 per garantire ai visitatori un’esperienza ancora più completa e ricca di opportunità, e una nuova area “forum” come spazio di dibattito e confronto collocato nel vivo della fiera.
Quali sono le sfide più stringenti per il mondo della scuola a suo avviso?
Ne cito due su tutte. Anzitutto la didattica digitale:
in quante scuole è fatta in modo efficace? È urgente formare docenti competenti ad usare le nuove tecnologie in questo senso. E ancora: la scuola deve potenziare sempre più il ponte con il mondo delle imprese e del lavoro, per garantire ai ragazzi le competenze più aggiornate e spendibili e rispondere ai bisogni del mondo produttivo. Per entrambe JOB&Orienta offre spazi di aggiornamento e confronto.
Parliamo invece di famiglia…
Il ruolo della famiglia è determinante nel percorso scolastico dei nostri studenti, per questo la giornata di sabato di JOB&Orienta sarà dedicata proprio ai genitori.
Oggi c’è una carenza spaventosa di profili tecnici, ma molti genitori si fanno guidare dai luoghi comuni pensando che esistano scuole
di serie A e scuole di serie B. Noi presenteremo tutto il panorama di offerta didattica perché esistono solo scuole adatte alle diverse intelligenze, inclinazioni e motivazioni dei ragazzi.
“ People, culture, technologies. For a new European Humanism”. Helping young people to be protagonists of change without being subjected to it in a world called to confront artificial intelligence, its opportunities and its risks: this is one of the great challenges to which education is called to respond today. This is why JOB&Orienta, the national orientation, school, training and work fair, which welcomes over 45 thousand visitors every year, has chosen this theme as the focus for its 33rd edition, scheduled from Wednesday 27 to Saturday 30 November 2024 at Veronafiere. We interviewed the scientific
coordinator of JOB&Orienta, Claudio Gentili, to better understand this challenge facing training and the world of education today.
Can you tell us more about the title of this 33rd edition: “People, culture, technologies. For a new European Humanism”?
We start from the assumption that schools do not train automatons, but people, and that technologies are often set against humanity. Secondly, many INVALSI and OECD surveys point to a lack of culture in our country.
With this combination of words we want to give a positive horizon because Europe has historically brought these dimensions together: the person and Humanism, civilisation and technological innovation.
At school we learn, it is the great bank that transmits our cultural heritage, and today this
can be done by embracing the challenges of technology. Towards a new European Humanism.
What are the most interesting new features of this edition?
Like every year, this one too will see numerous novelties. To give you just a few previews on the organisational front: without a doubt, an even larger exhibition, which will move to Halls 9 and 10 to guarantee visitors and even more complete experience full of opportunities, and a new ‘forum’ area as a space for debate and discussion located in the heart of the fair.
What are the most pressing challenges for the world of education in your opinion?
I would mention two out of all of them. First of all, digital education: in how many schools is it done effectively? There is an urgent need to train teachers competent to use the new technologies in this
sense. And again: schools must increasingly strengthen the bridge with the world of business and work, in order to ensure that young people have the most up-to-date and spendable skills and meet the needs of the productive world. For both, JOB&Orienta offers spaces for updating and comparison.
Let’s talk about family instead...
The role of the family is crucial in the educational path of our students, which is why Saturday’s JOB&Orienta will be dedicated precisely to parents.
Today there is an appalling shortage of technical profiles, but many parents are guided by clichés, thinking that there are A and B schools.
We will present the entire panorama of educational offerings because there are only schools suited to the different intelligences, inclinations and motivations of children.

DISCOVERING VERONA: THE ROMAN VILLA OF VALDONEGA

La nostra città è sicuramente famosa in tutto il mondo per ospitare grandiosi monumenti e resti di epoca romana, sono moltissimi i turisti che visitano il centro storico per ammirare i suoi siti più celebri. Ma se ci allontaniamo dalle vie più note e centrali, attraversiamo Ponte Pietra per inoltrarci nella riva sinistra dell’Adige e saliamo nelle prime
pendici della città, verso il quartiere di Valdonega, scopriremo nascosta tra i palazzi residenziali della zona una villa di epoca romana straordinaria, ancora poco conosciuta ma dalla notevole importanza.
Era il 1957 e durante i lavori di costruzione di un nuovo condominio in via Zoppi, una traversa di via Marsala, vennero alla luce i resti di un edificio risalente al I secolo d.C. Si era di fronte
a qualcosa di eccezionale: un magnifico esempio di villa romana suburbana di epoca imperiale, il più noto tra i complessi che dovevano popolare le prime pendici delle colline che circondano la città di Verona. L’ambiente e il panorama di allora erano ovviamente molto diversi dal contesto attuale: una zona immersa nella natura da cui si poteva ammirare una splendida vista sul fiume e la città. Ma ancor oggi, se ci inoltriamo nel sito archeologico, seppur circondato da case e condomini che popolano il quartiere, verremmo catapultati nel passato per immergerci e rivivere il fascino che fu di Verona imperiale. Della lussuosa villa si conservano tre ambienti che si affacciano su un porticato a L, che un tempo probabilmente si apriva sul giardino o cortile
esterno. L’elemento predominante è l’ampio salone colonnato su tre lati che era destinato a banchetti e feste, unico esempio in Italia settentrionale di oecus corinthius. Notevoli le sue decorazioni, dai mosaici a motivo geometrico bianco e nero dei pavimenti, ai riquadri policromi tra le colonne in cui sono raffigurate diverse varietà di uccelli tra racemi e foglie, alle tracce di pittura ad affresco delle pareti, tra le quali emerge la delicata figura di una gabbietta con uccellino. Passando per uno stretto vano, arriviamo alla sala più settentrionale del complesso, anch’essa riccamente decorata con affreschi che nel registro inferiore delle pareti rappresentano volatili tra elementi vegetali, mentre in quello superiore troviamo figure mitologiche alternate a motivi decorativi.
L’ampio porticato, che delimitava la villa su due lati (sud ed est), termina con tre gradini che probabilmente portavano a un piano superiore adagiato in parte sul declivio della collina attraverso una o più terrazze.
Attualmente la villa ospita anche reperti archeologici provenienti da scavi cittadini, come anfore, iscrizioni, rilievi e frammenti architettonici. Il sito archeologico è gestito dall’associazione Archeonaute che ne organizza le visite. Our city is certainly world-famous for hosting grandiose monuments and remains from the Roman era, and many tourists visit the historic centre to admire its most famous sites. However, if we move away from the bestknown and central streets, cross Ponte Pietra to penetrate the left bank of the Adige and ascend the first slopes of the city, towards the Valdonega district, we will discover hidden among the residential buildings of the area an extraordinary Roman villa, less known but of considerable importance.
It was in 1957, during the construction of a new apartment building in Via Zoppi, a side street of Via Marsala, the remains of a building dating back to the first century AD came to light. Something exceptional was in front of us: a magnificent example of a suburban Roman villa from the imperial era, the best known of the complexes that must have populated the first slopes of the hills surrounding the city of Verona. The environment and landscape of that time was obviously very different from today’s context: an area surrounded by nature from which one could admire a splendid view of the river and the city. But even today, if we walk into the archaeological site, even though it is surrounded by houses and apartment blocks, we would be catapulted back into the past to immerse ourselves and relive the charm that was once imperial Verona.
Of the luxurious villa, three rooms have been preserved that overlook an L-shaped portico, which at
one time probably opened onto the garden or courtyard outside. The predominant element is the large threesided columned hall that was used for banquets and feasts, the only example in northern Italy of an oecus corinthius. Its decorations are remarkable, from the black-and-white geometrically patterned mosaics on the floors, to the polychrome panels between the columns depicting different varieties of birds amidst racemes and leaves, to the traces of fresco painting on the walls, among which the delicate figure of a cage with a small bird emerges. Passing through a narrow passageway, we reach the northernmost room of the complex, also richly decorated with frescoes that in the lower register of the walls depict birds among plant elements, while in the upper register we find mythological figures alternating with decorative motifs.
The wide portico, which bordered the villa on two sides (south and east), ends with three steps that probably led to an upper storey lying partly on the slope of the hill through one or more terraces.
Currently, the villa also houses archaeological finds from the city excavations, such as amphorae, inscriptions, reliefs and architectural fragments.
The archaeological site is managed by the Archeonaute association, which organises visits. The Roman Villa of Valdonega is open to individuals by appointment on Tuesdays and Sundays from 4 to 8 pm. For groups and special bookings contact archeonaute@gmail.com.

PLUG-IN HYBRID TRA VIGNE E GARDA THE TOYOTA C-HR PLUG-IN HYBRID IS A GREAT CHOICE

Sono passato dalla concessionaria
Autotorino, in Viale Colonnello Galliano a Verona, per provare la nuova Toyota
C-Hr Plug-in Hybrid. Volevo togliermi il dubbio (e l’ansia) di cui mi parlano tutti i miei amici: le automobili ibride non convengono. Troppi pregiudizi, voglio provare sulla mia pelle... O meglio sul mio volante.
E allora via, ho preso la palla al balzo per andare in due dei miei luoghi preferiti della provincia di Verona: il Lago di Garda e la Valpolicella. Per guidare, sì, ma soprattutto per fare quello che mi piace di più: correre. Sono molto attento alla forma fisica e il percorso per arrivare alle due destinazioni era suggestivo e variegato.
Insomma, perfetto per testare la guidabilità dell’auto: sono partito da piazza San Zeno, dove ho ricaricato la Toyota
C-Hr Plug-in Hybrid con la classica colonnina (tranquilli, si può fare anche a casa con la più classica delle prese
di corrente). L’autonomia elettrica è fino a 66 chilometri, valore che supera la guida media giornaliera di un tipico guidatore europeo. Quando la batteria si esaurisce durante un viaggio più lungo, il veicolo passa automaticamente alla modalità Full Hybrid (e quindi passando a benzina), sfruttando la tecnologia in cui Toyota è leader per garantire un viaggio efficiente, indipendentemente
dalla distanza percorsa. A me è successo solamente nel viaggio di ritorno, quando praticamente ero in arrivo in concessionaria. Prima, però, ho testato trazione e stabilità del motore da 2,0 litri con 197 cavalli anche su una strada sterrata tra buche e pozzanghere in Valpolicella. Nel viaggio verso Cisano, invece, mi sono goduto il lungolago, ma anche il cielo: il tetto panoramico in vetro ti lascia una sensazione di libertà, mentre il display con la visuale dell’auto in 3D con tutti i particolari nelle vicinanze per il parcheggio aumenta il senso di sicurezza e, soprattutto, mi ha aiutato a parcheggiare in uno dei pochi posti liberi (e stretti) vicino alla riva.
Istopped by the Autotorino showroom in Viale Colonnello Galliano in Verona to try out the new Toyota C-HR Plug-in Hybrid. I wanted to clear the doubts (and anxieties) that all my friends tell me that hybrid cars are not good. There
are too many prejudices, so I wanted to try it out for myself... or rather on my steering wheel.
I headed off to two of my favourite places in the province of Verona: Lake Garda and Valpolicella. Of course to drive, but also to do one of the things I love most: running. I’m very keen on fitness, and the route to the two destinations was scenic and varied.
To sum up, it was ideal for testing the car’s driveability. I started from Piazza San Zeno, where I recharged the Toyota C-HR Plug-in Hybrid with the classic plug (don’t worry, it can also be done at home with the most classic of sockets). The EV range is up to 66 kilometres, which is more
than the average daily drive of a typical European driver. If the battery runs out during a longer journey, the vehicle automatically switches to Full Hybrid mode (and thus switches to petrol), using technology that Toyota is a leader that ensure an efficient journey, regardless of the distance travelled. This only happened to me on the return journey, when I was on my way back to the Autotorino showroom. Before that, I tested
the traction and stability of the 2.0-litre engine with 197 hp on a dirt road through potholes and puddles in Valpolicella. On the way to Cisano, I enjoyed the lakeside and the sky. The panoramic glass roof gives you a feeling of freedom, while the display with a 3D view of the car and all the details in the vicinity for parking enhances the sense of security. It also helped me park in one of the few free (and narrow) spaces near the shore.
IL RICORDO IN MUSICA DEL GRANDE CANTAUTORE DE ANDRÈ
REMEMBERING THE GREAT SINGERSONGWRITER DE ANDRÈ IN MUSIC

Appuntamento al Teatro Nuovo di Verona, sabato 2 novembre con il concerto tributo Parole di Faber. Un live dedicato interamente al grande cantautore Fabrizio De André; un’esperienza unica in cui gli arrangiamenti, fedeli alla musica del grande artista, si fondono alla voce di Andrea Filippi straordinariamente simile all’originale. Lo spettacolo ha come scopo principale quello di celebrare l’incredibile eredità artistica del cantautore genovese, offrendo quindi al pubblico un viaggio musicale emozionante attraverso il suo indimenticabile repertorio.
Nella scaletta del concerto pertanto non mancheranno tutti grandi successi di De André, come i capolavori: Bocca di Rosa, La Guerra di Piero, Andrea e il Pescatore. Gli arrangiamenti saranno fedeli alle versioni live ed originali delle canzoni di Fabrizio De André, senza dimenticare le versioni create in collaborazione con i PFM, la Premiata Forneria Marconi.
Per valorizzare al meglio la poesia e la musicalità delle sue canzoni, sono stati inseriti in questo concerto tributo strumenti etnici e particolari che De André e i suoi collaboratori avevano utilizzato negli anni di live in giro per tutta Italia, come il Bouzuki (strumento antico musicale greco), la fisarmonica, il flauto di pan ed i sintetizzatori.
Lo spettacolo Parole di Faber è realizzato grazie alla band I Notturni composta da musicisti, tutti diplomati al conservatorio, che hanno accuratamente svolto un lavoro di studio e ricerca per portare sul palco arrangiamenti fedelissimi a quelli che proponeva dal vivo De André. Nome scelto non a caso. Si perché “I Notturni” sarebbe stato il titolo dell’ultimo lavoro del cantautore genovese rimasto incompiuto e mai pubblicato a causa della sua prematura scomparsa.

The concert setlist will therefore include all of De André’s greatest hits, such as the masterpieces Bocca di Rosa, La Guerra di Piero, Andrea and Il Pescatore. The arrangements will be faithful to the live and original versions of Fabrizio De André’s songs, without forgetting the versions created in collaboration with PFM, the Premiata Forneria Marconi.
To best enhance the poetry and musicality of his songs, ethnic and special instruments that De André and his collaborators had used during the years of live performances around Italy, such as the Bouzuki (an ancient Greek musical instrument), accordion, pan flute and synthesisers, have been included in this tribute concert.
The show Parole di Faber (Faber’s Words) is realised thanks to the band I Notturni, made up of musicians, all conservatoire graduates, who have carefully carried out study and research work to bring to the stage arrangements faithful to those De André used to perform live. A name chosen not by chance. Yes, because ‘I Notturni’ would have been the title of the Genoese singer-songwriter’s last work that remained unfinished and never published due to his untimely death.

I PUNTI VIOLA CONTRO LA VIOLENZA PURPLE POINTS AGAINST VIOLENCE

Un’urgenza di cui bisognerebbe parlare tutti i giorni, perché purtroppo tutti i giorni le pagine di cronaca ne portano all’attenzione i risvolti più drammatici: la violenza contro le donne. La giornata scelta dall’Assemblea generale delle Nazioni Unite come giornata simbolo per la sensibilizzazione di cittadini e cittadine è il 25 novembre, data in cui tre attiviste politiche furono uccise in Repubblica Domenicana nel 1960.
Oggi sono molte le iniziative di sensibilizzazione per diffondere una cultura del rispetto e del supporto alle persone in situazioni di difficoltà per invertire la rotta sulla strada della violenza. Tra queste il progetto Punti Viola di DonneXStrada, associazione no profit che si occupa di violenza contro le donne e sicurezza in strada, tramite i punti viola e una rete associata di psicologi e avvocati. Ma cosa sono i punti viola? Il punto viola è un luogo sicuro sul proprio territorio, un esercizio commerciale, un punto di riferimento, un luogo frequentato e facilmente frequentabile che però è formato e sensibilizzato per accogliere e fornire supporto alle donne che stanno vivendo momenti di disagio. Ogni punto viene selezionato, formato, monitorato da avvocati e psicologici
esperti in materia affinché sia un supporto reale sul territorio. Chiunque ne senta la necessità può rivolgersi ai punti viola. Sono ormai 200 i punti viola in Italia e di questi 13 nella nostra provincia, finanziati da aziende, realtà e associazioni che vogliono rendere la città più accogliente. Obiettivo di DonneXStrada è proprio quello di contrastare la violenza di genere e garantire il benessere delle persone. Il progetto dei punti viola è nato grazie al sostegno e alla collaborazione dell’Università della California Berkeley e della start up innovativa a vocazione sociale V.SRL.
Quello dei punti viola è solo uno dei progetti concreti di DonneXStrada, che lavora ogni giorno per creare un sistema di maggiore sicurezza per le donne sulle strade attivando una rete di cittadini e di altri soggetti sul territorio che possano intervenire a difesa di donne che corrono rischi di violenza per le strade; per educare e sensibilizzare la società, partendo anche dalle scuole e interloquendo con le istituzioni, perché è un diritto di tutte quello di sentirsi libere.

An urgency that should be talked about every day, because unfortunately every day the news pages bring to our attention facts of violence against women. The day chosen by the United Nations General Assembly as a symbolic day to raise awareness among citizens is 25 November, the date three political activists were killed in the Dominican Republic in 1960.
Today there are many awareness-raising initiatives to spread a culture of respect and support for people in difficult situations. Among these is the purple points project of DonneXStrada, a non-profit association that deals with violence against women
and safety on the street, through Purple Points and an associated network of psychologists and lawyers.
However, what are purple points? The purple point is a safe place in its territory, a business, a reference point, a place that is frequented and easily visited, but which is trained and sensitised to welcome and provide support to women who are experiencing moments of distress. Each point is selected, trained, and monitored by lawyers and psychological experts so that it can be a real support in the area. Now, there are 200 purple points in Italy and 13 of these in our province, financed by companies, organisations and associations that want to make the city more welcoming. The objective of DonneXStrada is precisely to combat gender-based violence and ensure people’s well-being. The Purple Spots project came through the support and collaboration of the University of California Berkeley and the innovative social start-up V.SRL.
The purple points is just one of the concrete projects of DonneXStrada, which works every day to create a system of greater safety for women on the streets by activating a network of citizens and other actors in the area who can intervene in defence of women who run the risk of violence on the streets; to educate and raise awareness in society, also starting from schools and interacting with the institutions, because it is a right of all to feel free.

IN MEMORIA DI CHIARA UGOLINI: UN PROGETTO CONTRO LA VIOLENZA IN MEMORY OF CHIARA UGOLINI: A PROJECT AGAINST VIOLENCE

Ricordare, dare senso a qualcosa che non dovrebbe mai accadere, trasformare la rabbia e il dolore che umanamente si provano dopo eventi crudeli per creare qualcosa di nuovo, di concreto e positivo che possa contribuire perché il dramma di Chiara Ugolini, una ragazza di soli 27 anni uccisa il 5 settembre 2021 dal vicino di casa, non si ripeta mai più.
È quello che hanno voluto realizzare un gruppo di amiche e amici creando il progetto Contrastare la violenza di genere in ricordo di Chiara Ugolini, andando nelle scuole per dare la loro testimonianza in ricordo della loro amica, per incontrare e formare i giovani al rispetto tra pari, all’uso di un linguaggio di genere appropriato, contro ogni discriminazione e violenza, seguendo un progetto costruito sulla tesi di laurea della Dott. ssa Psicologa Laura Conti.
Il gruppo di amici, in seguito allargatosi, prende il nome di FORmazione CHIARA, che li identifica nel lavoro che
portano avanti contro la violenza di genere in onore di Chiara, perché dal suo ricordo si possa giocare una partita, combattere e vincere, come tanto amava fare Chiara sui campi di pallavolo.
Qual è la vostra esperienza nelle scuole, nel sensibilizzare i giovani su questo argomento?
La nostra esperienza nelle scuole è sicuramente positiva.
L’età delle ragazze e dei ragazzi che abbiamo di fronte è quella delle prime relazioni ed esperienze quindi gli argomenti che trattiamo li colpiscono
particolarmente. Si interrogano ad esempio sui segnali d’allarme o sul concetto di consenso. Se possibile, in seguito all’esposizione del progetto in assemblea, cerchiamo di dedicare un momento nelle singole classi per rispondere direttamente alle domande e avere un confronto in un contesto più piccolo e familiare dove le ragazze e i ragazzi si sentono più liberi di esprimere dubbi e osservazioni. Abbiamo notato che le parti in cui vengono maggiormente coinvolt* sono le testimonianze. Spesso al termine dell’evento ci ringraziano per aver mostrato loro i nostri sentimenti ed emozioni ed esprimono la loro vicinanza. È capitato anche che loro stessi condividessero con noi loro esperienze dolorose. L’esperienza nelle scuole ci lascia sempre speranza e grande soddisfazione. Quali sono altri progetti futuri che vorreste realizzare? Sicuramente il nostro obiettivo è sensibilizzare più persone possibili, per prevenire e contrastare il fenomeno della violenza di genere. Siamo partite e partiti dalle scuole per arrivare poi a comuni, società sportive e aziende, allargando sempre più la platea di persone in ascolto. A tal proposito, ci piacerebbe
nei prossimi anni spingerci oltre i confini della provincia di Verona, come già abbiamo fatto quest’anno andando a Mantova e Vicenza. Ogni anno in base anche ai feedback che riceviamo dopo i nostri interventi e alle considerazioni interne durante le nostre riunioni, rimodelliamo delle parti del progetto per portare maggiore chiarezza e fare in modo che il nostro messaggio arrivi il più diretto possibile a chi mette a disposizione il proprio tempo per ascoltarci. Inoltre, ci auguriamo di instaurare ulteriori collaborazioni con professioniste e professionisti competenti sul tema della violenza di genere, sia per un loro affiancamento durante i nostri eventi sia perché siamo anche noi tuttora in formazione, su questo tema c’è sempre molto da imparare.

This is what a group of friends wanted to achieve by creating the project Contrastare la violenza di genere in ricordo di Chiara Ugolini (Countering gender violence in memory of Chiara Ugolini), by going to schools to give their testimony in memory of their friend, to meet and train young people with respect to peers, in the use of appropriate gender language, against all discrimination and violence, following a project built on the graduation thesis of Dr. Laura Conti, a psychologist. The group of friends, later enlarged, takes the name
FORMAZIONE CHIARA, identifying them in the work they carry out against gender violence in honour of Chiara, so that from her memory we can play a game, fight and win, as Chiara loved to do on the volleyball court. What is your experience in schools, in raising awareness among young people on this issue?
Our experience in schools is definitely positive. The age of the young people we are dealing with is that of first relationships and experiences, so the topics we deal with particularly affect them. They wonder, for example, about warning signs or the concept of consent. If possible, following the presentation of the project in the assembly, we try to set aside a time in the individual classes to answer the questions directly and to have a discussion in a smaller, familiar context where the kids* feel free to express doubts and observations. We have noticed that the parts where they are most involved are the testimonies. Often at the end of the event they thank us for showing them our feelings and emotions and express their closeness. It also happened that they themselves shared their painful experiences with us. The experience
in schools always leaves us with hope and great satisfaction. What other future projects would you like to realise?
Certainly our goal is to raise awareness among as many people as possible, to prevent and combat the phenomenon of genderbased violence. We started with schools and then reached out to municipalities, sports clubs and companies, increasingly widening the audience of people listening. In this regard, we would like in the coming years to go beyond the borders of the province of Verona, as we have already done this year by going to Mantua and Vicenza. Each year, based on the feedback we receive after our speeches and internal considerations during our meetings, we reshape parts of the project to bring greater clarity and ensure that our message reaches those who make their time available to listen to us as directly as possible. Furthermore, we hope to establish further collaborations with professionals competent* on the topic of gender-based violence, both for their support during our events and because we are also still in training, there is always much to learn on this topic.
GUIDA AI REGALI PER UN NATALE PIÙ SOSTENIBILE GIFT GUIDE FOR A MORE SUSTAINABLE CHRISTMAS

La tradizione secondo cui ci si scambiano i regali a Natale è molto antica: per molti infatti, fu il re dei Sabini, Tito Tazio, a inaugurare questa tradizione nel 700 a.C. Sembra infatti che Tazio, a Capodanno, chiese come dono dai suoi sudditi un ramoscello d’alloro o di ulivo proveniente dal bosco sacro della dea Strenia, nella speranza di avere un anno di prosperità. Per altri invece si lega alla scelta del vescovo bizantino San Nicola di Bari, che nel IV secolo decise di nascondere dei regali nelle scarpe che i
bambini lasciavano fuori dalla porta a Natale. Quello che è certo è che l’usanza di scambiarsi regali a Natale è ormai consolidata, nonostante porti con sé anche moltissimi sprechi. Solo l’anno scorso, secondo una stima di Confcommercio, sono stati fatti 8 miliardi di regali: in media ogni italiano ha speso 186 euro per farli. Se i numeri dello spreco del cibo sotto le feste sono molto chiari - l’86% degli italiani dice di sprecare più cibo durante le feste - meno chiari ma comunque evidenti sono quelli legati ai regali. Sempre più
persone infatti trasformano una tradizione in puro consumismo, e il risultato è che tutti - almeno una volta nella nostra vita - abbiamo ricevuto un regalo di cui non avevamo assolutamente bisogno.
Ecco quindi una piccola guida per evitare di fare regali inutili, poco apprezzati, e che diventeranno l’ennesimo rifiuto o un regalo riciclato alla prima occasione:
• optare per regali utili;
• prediligere realtà artigiane a grandi catene;
• cercare tra le attività locali, di quartiere;
• creare qualcosa con le proprie mani (può essere un’attività didattica da fare con i più piccoli);
• non scandalizzarsi davanti ai regali second hand;
• regalare una donazione a un ente benefico o un’associazione;
• preferire esperienze e corsi a regali materiali: siamo pieni di oggetti, ciò che ci può ancora arricchire davvero sono proprio le esperienze.
The tradition of exchanging gifts at Christmas is a very old one: for many, it was the king of the Sabines, Titus Tatius, who inaugurated this tradition in 700 BC. It seems in fact that Tazio, on New Year’s Eve, asked his subjects for a laurel or olive branch from the sacred forest of the goddess Strenia as a gift, in the hope of having a prosperous year. For others, it is linked to the choice
of the Byzantine bishop St Nicholas of Bari, who in the 4th century decided to hide presents in the shoes that children left outside the door at Christmas.
What is certain is that the custom of exchanging gifts at Christmas is now well established, despite the fact that it also brings a lot of waste. Last year alone, according to an estimate by Confcommercio, 8 billion gifts were made: on average, every Italian spent 186 euros to make them. If the numbers of food wastage during the holidays are very clear86% of Italians say they waste more food during the holidays - less clear but still evident are those related to gifts. In fact, more and more people are turning a tradition into pure consumerism, and the result is that we have all - at least once in our lives - received a gift we absolutely did not need.
Here, is a small guide to avoid giving useless, unappreciated gifts that will become yet another waste or recycled present at the first opportunity:
- opt for useful gifts;
- prefer artisan businesses to large chains;
- look for local, neighbourhood businesses;
- create something with your own hands (this can be an educational activity to do with the little ones);
- do not be shocked by second-hand gifts;
- give a donation to a charity or association;
- prefer experiences and courses to material gifts: we are full of objects, what can still really enrich us are experiences.

Un Museo per mettere in mostra antichi addobbi e luminarie natalizie. Questo quanto propone Marco Tomelleri, che da oltre trent’anni li colleziona, trovandoli nei mercatini dell’usato o su eBay, spesso a prezzi esorbitanti. Sono luminarie in vetro ancora funzionanti, dal fascino suggestivo per i colori e le forme, in confezioni spartane, in semplici scatole di cartone legate con lo spago, datate dal dopoguerra in poi, prima che arrivassero dalla Cina o dalle industrie moderne gli addobbi in plastica. Ma perchè collezionare questi articoli vintage? «Volevo proporre a mia figlia luminarie come me le ricordavo io quand’ero bambino e le volevo italiane» dice Tomelleri che mostra con soddisfazione una scatola Mazda di Mickey Mouse con campanelle in vetro con i personaggi di Topolino o Paperino, risalente al 1947. Una vera e propria passione, che lo ha portato a questa ricerca, giunta ora a circa 700 pezzi. «Verona è la città ideale per un piccolo museo vintage – continua Tomelleri – visto che c’è la mostra dei presepi, la grande stella in piazza Bra. Avevo già fatto la richiesta tempo addietro, ma mancavano sempre soldi, personale, strutture». Da lì a fare una ricerca sulla storia dell’albero di Natale, forse mai pubblicata, è stato inevitabile. Il tutto prende inizio dalle culture celtico pagane, nel Nord Europa. I Celti onoravano la natura e gli alberi,
ritenuti sacri, perché tendevano al cielo. Importante era la luce del sole, secondo il corso del sol invictus e del nascere del sole bambino, preso poi dalla cristianità. Secondo una leggenda Martin Lutero, attraversando un bosco illuminato dalla luna, vide un abete con tanti ghiaccioli appesi ai rami, che scintillavano, e, meravigliato, lo ripropose per il periodo natalizio. Rimase un’abitudine di nicchia fino a metà ‘800, quando si cominciò ad addobbare l’albero con candele. Per le luminarie elettriche bisogna andare al 1882 quando un collaboratore di Thomas Edison, realizzò un albero di Natale illuminato da 80 lampadine incandescenti di colore rosso, bianco e blu, colori della bandiera americana. Le luci sull’albero di Natale, quindi, furono necessarie per vincere il buio. Negli anni ‘50 «non c’era l’abete pieno di luci e le contrade di campagna erano immerse in un buio impressionante. In casa non c’era nemmeno il presepe, per vedere il Bambino bisognava andare in chiesa» scriveva Dino Coltro, in un articolo del 2005 su Verona Fedele, dal titolo “Un Natale che non c’è più”.

This is what Marco Tomelleri proposes, who has been collecting them for over thirty years, finding them in flea markets or on eBay, often at exorbitant prices. They are still working glass luminaries, with an evocative charm due to their colours and shapes, in spartan packaging, in simple cardboard boxes tied with string, dating from the post-war period onwards, before the arrival of plastic decorations from China or modern industries. But why collect these vintage items? ‘I wanted to offer my daughter illuminations as I remembered them when I was a child and I wanted them Italian,’ says Tomelleri, who happily shows a Mazda Mickey Mouse box with glass bells with Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck characters, dating back to 1947. It was a real passion
that led him to this research, which has now reached around 700 pieces. ‘Verona is the ideal city for a small vintage museum,’ Tomelleri continues, ‘since there is the exhibition of cribs, the big star in Piazza Bra. I had already made the request some time ago, but there was always lack of money, personnel, facilities’. From there to researching the history of the Christmas tree, perhaps never published, was inevitable. It all starts with the Celtic pagan cultures in Northern Europe. The Celts honoured nature and trees, which were considered sacred because they tended to the heavens. Sunlight was important, according to the course of sol invictus and the birth of the child sun, later taken over by Christianity. According to a legend, Martin Luther, while walking through a moonlit forest, saw a fir tree with many icicles hanging from its branches, which glittered, and, amazed, he proposed it again for the Christmas season. It remained a niche custom until the mid-19th century, when people began to decorate the tree with candles. For electric lights, one has to go back to 1882 when an associate of Thomas Edison, created a Christmas tree lit by 80 incandescent bulbs in red, white and blue, the colours of the American flag. The lights on the Christmas tree, therefore, were necessary to overcome the darkness. In the 1950s, ‘there was no fir tree full of lights and the country districts were plunged into a staggering darkness. At home there was not even the crib, to see the Child you had to go to church,’ wrote Dino Coltro, in a 2005 article in Verona Fedele, entitled “A Christmas that no longer exists”.

Liberamente ispirato a fatti realmente accaduti,il film parte dalla vicenda del latitante boss Cosa Nostra Matteo Messina Denaro per narrare il tentativo da parte del protagonista Catello Palumbo di collaborare con le autorità per catturare dopo un periodo trascorso in carcere,l’ultimo grande latitante di mafia in circolazione. I fatti narrati sono fantasia, ma il punto di partenza è la vita reale, poiché la realtà è soltanto il punto di partenza, non la destinazione, come descritto dai due registi all’inizio del lungometraggio. Un Toni Servillo ottimo e la fotografia che dà alla Sicilia un’immagine nostalgica e rurale sono due aspetti per cui “Iddu-l’ultimo padrino” è da vedere al cinema.
Loosely based on real events, the film starts with the story of the fugitive Cosa Nostra boss Matteo Messina Denaro to narrate the protagonist Catello Palumbo‘s attempt to collaborate with the authorities in order to capture, after a period in prison, the last great mafia fugitive in circulation. The facts narrated are fantasy, but the starting point is real life, as reality is only the starting point, not the destination, as described by the two directors at the beginning of the feature. An excellent Toni Servillo and the cinematography that gives Sicily a nostalgic and rural image are two aspects for which ‘Iddu-l‘ultimo padrino’ is a must-see at the cinema.

Vincitore del premio degli spettatori nella sezione orizzonti extra a Venezia, Shahed afferma il nuovo movimento per la libertà in Iran: la violenza ha lasciato il posto a forme di protesta più creative, come la danza senza hijab,usata nei social media come forma di protesta non violenta delle donne.

Parthenope, in competition at the Cannes Film Festival last May, stars Celeste Dalla Porta, a rare beauty born in the sea - in keeping with the origins of the myth of Parthenopewho has to deal with the turmoil of an emotionally unstable family, the endless attentions of boys and men, and the rigorous expectations of the academic world, where she studies anthropology. Facing tragedies, lost loves and professional setbacks, Sorrentino captures all of this against the backdrop of the singular beauty of Naples, as he did in his previous feature ‘It was the Hand of God’, with breathtaking shots and a perfectly tuned soundscape.
The film, set in Iran, is about Tarlan, a retired dance teacher, who witnesses the murder of her friend Rana by her husband, a prominent member of the government. When the police refuse to investigate, Tarlan must decide whether to give in to political pressure or seek justice. Winner of the spectators‘ prize in the Extra Horizons section in Venice, Shahed affirms the new freedom movement in Iran: violence has given way to more creative forms of protest, such as dancing without a hijab, used on social media as a form of non-violent protest by women.

Caro amico
Caro amico racconta di una famiglia alla ricerca di una casa di villeggiatura da acquistare; mentre l’agente immobiliare mostra le stanze di una delle ville ai genitori, il figlio Giulio decide di esplorare l’edificio e qualcosa attira la sua attenzione. Il cortometraggio esplora la dimensione infantile, nella quale è presente uno sguardo disilluso e sincero che nel mondo degli adulti si azzera. Lo stesso regista Matteo Cletini parla di un tentativo di portare l’attenzione sullo sguardo inquieto, intelligente e al tempo stesso sincero del protagonista, libero dai vincoli e dalle barriere che di frequente disseminano il mondo degli adulti, che rimane sempre tagliato fuori dall’inquadratura. La fotografia, semplice ma efficace, si concentra infatti sullo sguardo del bambino e dove esso può arrivare. Il volto dei genitori non viene mai inquadrato; l’unica testimonianza della loro esistenza si ha all’inizio e alla fine del corto. Dear Friend
Caro amico tells of a family looking for a holiday home to buy; while the real estate agent shows the rooms of one of the villas to the parents, their son Giulio decides to explore the building and something catches his eye. The short film explores the dimension of childhood, in which there is a disillusioned and sincere look that is zeroed out in the adult world. The director Matteo Cletini himself speaks of an attempt to bring attention to the protagonist‘s restless, intelligent and at the same time sincere gaze, free from the constraints and barriers that frequently litter the adult world, which always remains cut out of the frame. The simple but effective photography focuses on the child‘s gaze and where it can reach. The parents‘ faces are never framed; the only evidence of their existence occurs at the beginning and end of the short film. The real protagonist is therefore the child, along with what he will find. Present in the extra 2023 section, Dear Friend won the schools‘ prize and the Focus Movie Academy award.
