Research has shown that artistic expression is essential to the human experience. The arts, whether visual, theatrical, or musical, give us the opportunity to reflect on experiences, empathize with others, and express different viewpoints. At CDS, we are constantly in awe of the imaginations and creations of our students. The Elementary Chorus is alive and well with over 50 singers from grades 3-5. This year 4th and 5th graders have been accepted to perform on the Marketplace Stage at Disney Springs in April. This is also the first year for the newly formed, Elementary Orff Ensemble. Orff is a music approach that involves students in playing, singing, and moving. It usually includes xylophones, metallophones, recorders, drums, and glockenspiels. Our group has also incorporated ukuleles into their band. In our middle school, musicians are learning the difference between strings and wind instruments and continuing to develop their instrumental skills. The students are beginning to realize that creating beautiful music involves more than just playing notes. Our junior thespians traveled to States for their One Act, and our visual artists showcased their dreamscapes, cubism, and self-portrait skills at an exhibit at MOSI.
