College Counseling Corner The class of 2020 is half way home with respect to the college admissions process and College Counseling would like to share some of the good news (though the majority of admissions decisions will not arrive until March, 2020) with our CDS family, both new and long tenured. As reported earlier in December, Carrollwood Day School earned Cum Laude Society Status (the secondary equivalent of Phi Beta Kappa for colleges), one of only 360 of 27,000 secondary schools (independent, public, and charter) in the United States since the founding of the Cum Laude Society in 1906. Additionally, Carrollwood Day School is 1 of 5 Cum Laude Society/ IB secondary schools in Florida and 1 of only 15 Cum Laude Society/ IB secondary schools in the United States. By any standard of measurement, CDS is among the most competitive schools in the nation.
Please stay tuned, as many decisions will not arrive until late March/early April. The college counseling office will communicate final results in early May. There are 66 seniors in the Class of 2020 and nine of them will be scholar-athletes next year when they maneuver toward their college experience (in 6 different sports), including four women’s basketball players and a fencer! What an incredible accomplishment for the CDS community, the athletic department, and all coaches involved. (see page 13) Congratulations to all.
