Q. Tell everyone who you are and what you do.
A. Hello, my name is Shug Jackson. I am a rapper/actor and an entrepreneur.
Q. What made you want to pursue a career as a Rapper?
A. I wanted to pursue a career as a rapper because I love to tell stories, touch people through words and give them a snapshot of what goes on in the hood.
Q. How would you describe the music that you create?
A. I would describe my music as storytelling, real life over beats and laidback. Music with substance and something that everyone, of any age can relate to.
Q. Let’s talk about your new album and the motivation behind it.
A. Motivation behind my new album is just wanting to bring substance back to the game. Give the audience something that in my opinion is missing, which is the art of storytelling.
Q. What Hip-Hop albums did you grow up listening to?
A. I grew up on LL Cool J, Erik B & Rakim. Public Enemy, Ice T and the list goes on. NWA and Eazy E really hit home with me by bringing what we were really living in the hood, they brought that to life on record.
Q. What do you think is missing in today’s Hip-Hop music?
A. What’s missing in today’s Hip Hop music, in my opinion, is Substance. Today’s artist all pretty much talk about the same things on every song. No knock to any artist, there are some great talents out there, I personally just like something that moves my soul.
Q. Let’s talk about your sneaker brand and how it got started?
A. My Sneaker brand is called “Shug J’s” which got started by a friend of mine out in Seattle who wanted to start his own shoe line. He reached out to me about doing it and we made it happen.
Q. If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
A. One message I want to give to my fans is, that Shug Jackson is always going to give them great music, with great content and subject matters that they can relate to.
Q. Are there any events or upcoming projects you are working on?
A. No current events at the moment, just working hard on the Album, a couple of upcoming movie projects and hopefully a tour early next year.
