Q. Thanks for interviewing with us. Tell us who you are and what you do.
A. LARRY DODSON aka Larry D - Original lead singer of The Bar-Kays creating the music that I now do than which I did while being the lead singer of the Bar-Kays. I will say that there is obvious growth in the music that I’m now creating as a solo artist which in part is a result of using more outside producers who have helped me to be creative more acceptable at radio at the age of 71 after having recorded some 30 albums in my career. It is very hard to remain relevant consistently for so many years thru so many changes in music.

Q. What advice can you give to someone who wants to be a musician?
A. The biggest piece of advice I would give to a musician now is to surround yourself with a wise counsel always while on your musical journey.
Q. What inspired you to record this album?
A. I was inspired to record this album (Entitled “Yours Truly Larry D”) because I wanted my fans to get a new clear picture of the solo career that I am now undertaking with the very best music that I could put together no matter how long it took. Also, to let my fans see another side of Larry Dodson AKA Larry D both lyrically and musically.
Q. What’s next for you?
A. What’s next for me is creating more music and getting involved in film as well as producing other artist and exploring new talent for our record label, music moves records which my son and I now own.

Q. What motivated you to be the man you are today?
A. I was motivated to become a professional artist first by an inner desire to be the very best entertainer that I could possibly be, but I was further inspired by my mentor, producer and manager the late Allen Jones to whom I owe all that I am to his guidance and true and honest friendship.
Q. How do you describe the style of music you create?
A. I consider my style of music as funky, R&B with romantic influences.
Q. Who are some of your music influencers?
A. The three artist that have really inspired me the most are Ray Charles, Sly Stone and Stevie Wonder.
Q. How do you feel about your music from back in the days to now?
