RICH STRIKE WINS KENTUCKY DERBY PHOTO BY SCOTT SERIO
No one gave Rich Strike much of a chance to win the 148th running of the Kentucky Derby, not even the announcer calling the race, until a relatively unknown jockey guided a horse anyone could have bought for $30,000
last September up the rail to shock everyone in the biggest horse race in the world. The stunning victory by the 80-1 shot, who looked great all week while training next to much more heralded thoroughbreds, capped a week on the

MAYOR MARION DECLARES MARCH 5TH AS TYLER GARVIN DAY
The Town of Rising Sun honored Rising Sun High School Sophomore Tyler Garvin recently for his outstanding performance in the MPSSAA State Wrestling Tournament. Garvin won the
State Championship on March 5th in a two day tournament wrestling against the top wrestlers in the state from other 2A schools. Garvin has been focused all season on winning the state title and
getting his name placed on the sign of Champions located in Rising Sun’s Richardson Park. Also listed on that sign is Tyler’s Father, Luke Garvin who was also a MD State Wrestling - CONTINUED ON B-16 -
