There were upsets (Bengals over the Packers in Lambeau and Texans over the Titans), a possible changing of the guard in two divisions (Niners over the Seahawks and the Jets knocking off the Patriots), rebounds (Bears over the Steelers, Cardinals over the Jaguars, Bills over the Bucs and Raiders over the Chiefs), offensive explosions (Saints QB Drew Brews, Titans RB Chris Johnson, Niners RB Frank Gore, Texans WR Andre Johnson and others) and bad teams getting worse (D.C. over the Rams, Broncos over the Browns, and Vikings over the Lions).
The truly first class stadium is state of the art including mega scoreboards, huge concourses, pedestal dancers, and any other amenity that $1.1 Billion dollars can buy you. The pregame ceremony was right out of a Hollywood script including former President George W. Bush proving the pre-game coin toss and a video placing Cowboys stadium in the class of the Taj Mahal and The Coliseum in Rome. • For those knee jerkers that think the Cowboys need to find another QB, because Romo threw 3 INT’s, Shut UP! Every quarterback has bad days. Farve, Aikman, Marnio, even the great Elway had bad days. So, we should let this season play out and see where Romo takes the Cowboys.
The biggest story of the week had to be the grand opening of Jerry Jones’ new football palace called “Cowboys Stadium”. An NFL record 105,000 + crowd came to see the Cowboys against division rival the New York Giants, but the stadium was the real story.

Burress sentenced to two years in prison New York, NY (Sports Network) - Former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress was sentenced to two years in prison on Tuesday for a gun charge, stemming from an accidental shooting at a Manhattan night club last November. Burress, who was set to begin serving his sentence immediately, pleaded guilty on August 20 to one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon and agreed to serve two years in jail. A plea agreement with prosecutors led to a lesser charge after he was initially indicted on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and one count of second-degree reckless endanger-ment on August 3. Burress was joined by family on Tuesday in the court room, where he made a mostly inaudible apology before being taken into custody. "I think what just happen-ed in the court room...is terribly sad and very tragic," said Burress' attorney, Benjamin Brafman, after-ward. The former Super Bowl hero will likely serve 20 months in prison, with time off for good behavior, and will also serve two

years of supervised release. Burress, who shot himself in the thigh with an unlicensed gun, was facing at least 3 1/2 years in prison if convicted at a trial on a weapons charge before
making the plea agreement. Brafman had never argued the facts of the case, but during the summer had tried to negotiate a plea agreement that would give Burress the least amount of jail time. "You can violate the law, be subject to severe punishment and not be a criminal," Brafman added Tuesday. "Mr. Burress used bad judgment and violated a law that has no flexibility. "Not even the court has discretion in a case where there are mitigating cir-cumstances to impose a lesser penalty." The Giants released Burress in April. He caught the winning touchdown pass in the Super Bowl after the 2007 season. PAGE

Final Score: Atlanta 28, Carolina 20 Atlanta, GA - Matt Ryan threw three touchdown passes and Michael Turner added 105 yards with a score on the ground, as the Atlanta Falcons claimed their second win of the young season with a 28-20 victory over NFC South rival Carolina at the Georgia Dome. Ryan, who threw for a pair of touchdowns in last week's season-opening win against Miami, completed 21-of-27 passes this week for 220 yards with an interception. "The game was a typical NFC game between two very physical football teams and we knew that coming in," said Atlanta coach Mike Smith. "Offensively we were able to set out what we wanted to do in the second half. Ryan threw the ball very well and he was distributing it well." Tony Gonzalez had a touchdown catch last week in his Atlanta debut and this Sunday hauled in seven passes for 71 yards with another score for the Falcons (2-0), who have won their first two
games for the first time since 2006 and are trying to record back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in franchise history. Carolina quarterback Jake Delhomme, after throwing four interceptions and taking a seat on the bench in last week's loss to Philadelphia, was picked off just once Sunday, but it came late in the fourth with the Panthers trying to tie the game. He connected on 25-of-41 throws for 308 yards with a touchdown, as the Panthers (0-2) dropped their first two games for the first time since 2006. "It couldn't have been any worse than last week," Delhomme said. "I felt good out there today. Last week I put too much pressure on myself. This week I got back to being just plain Jake." DeAngelo Williams ran for 79 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries for Carolina, which outgained Atlanta 440-371. The Falcons then drove 47 yards for another touchdown. A sneak by Ryan on 4th- and-1 at
the Carolina 21 set up a first down and a pass interference penalty in the end zone on a thirddown incompletion gave Atlanta life. Turner scored soon after from the one to make it 28-13 game with 12:23 left in the contest. Delhomme then engineered an 80-yard drive that ended with his TD toss to Rosario to pull Carolina within eight. Game Notes Peterson, who picked off a pass last week in his Falcons debut, had nine tackles on Sunday...Smith notched his sixth straight 100yard receiving game against an NFC South foe...Carolina linebacker Na'il Diggs left the contest in the first half with a rib injury...Atlanta's Jerious Norwood appeared to suffer a head injury and Falcons defensive lineman Peria Jerry was carted off the field in the fourth quarter...The Falcons play on the road for the first time next Sunday at New England, while the Panthers visit Dallas next Monday.
Final Score: Minnesota 27, Detroit 13
13 win at Ford Field.
Detroit, MI - Brett Favre threw two touchdown passes and Adrian Peterson ran for one score as Minnesota continued Detroit's misery with a 27-
Favre completed 23-of-27 attempts for 155 yards while Peterson had 15 carries for 92 yards for the Vikings (2-0), who have won three straight going back to last season. Favre started his 271st straight game and broke the record held by former Minnesota defensive end Jim Marshall, who started 270 straight games from 1961-79. "Today was really not a whole lot different than week, last year, every game that I play in," said Favre. "At this point I'm pretty grateful. I know how difficult it is." "We had battled pretty good and were in good position to come out in the second half," said Lions coach Jim Schwartz. "We lost the game but we're going to come back Monday and work hard. We want to win. We are not going out there and lay down and saying the Vikings are going to win. They were better than us today PAGE

and that's how I see it." Detroit is creeping up on a dubious record. If the team loses its next seven games, it will tie the record set by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Trailing by three at the start of the second half, the Vikings held the Lions to a three-and-out and used a 10-play drive that covered 39 yards and was capped on a Ryan Longwell 26-yard field goal to tie the game On the second play of the Lions' ensuing drive, Smith fumbled the ball and Minnesota recovered. Peterson wasted no time as on the first play he took a handoff, broke a tackle and raced into the end zone on a 27-yard score for a 17-10 lead. In a drive that spanned the third and fourth quarter, Minnesota took a 20-10 lead on Longwell's 46-yard boot between the uprights with 9:56 to play. Minnesota ran nine plays on the drive and ate up almost six minutes of the clock. "I think they had some confidence," said Stafford after the game. "That first drive when they got us to go three-and-out, I don't think we had gone three- and-out the whole game. We WWW.411SPORTSNEWS.COM
were moving the ball well in the first half and putting points on the board and they did a good job playing defense." The Vikings finally got the kinks out of their offense on the ensuing drive and put points on the board. Peterson got things going on the first play with a 22-yard run. Favre later converted a third down and on 2nd-and goal at the one-yard line, Favre rolled out to the right and hit Shiancoe in the end zone to make it a 10-7 game going into the break. Game Notes: Detroit has lost its last five games by doubledigits...Minnesota has not given up a 100-yard rusher since Ryan Grant did it for Green Bay on November 11, 2007, a span of 25 games...Both teams totaled 265 yards in the game...Bernard Berrian led Minnesota receivers with six catches for 46 yards...Rookie tight end Brandon Pettigrew had four catches for 40 yards for Detroit...Favre has won 14 of his last 16 games against Detroit...Detroit has given up 72 points this season. Last season, the team gave up the second-most points in NFL history. SEPT. 24 - 30, 2009

A GAME DAY WRAP UP AND PREVIEW OF THE NEXT WEEKS GAMES Final Score: Cincinnati 31, Green Bay 24 Green Bay, WI Chad Ochocinco caught a 13yard go-ahead touchdown pass from Carson Palmer late in the third quarter and Cedric Benson rushed for 141 yards on 29 carries, as the Cincinnati Bengals held off the Green Bay Packers, 31-24, at Lambeau Field. Palmer finished 15-of-23 for 185 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions for the Bengals (1-1), who were shocked by Denver 127 in their season opener. Laveranues Coles and Chris Henry added touchdown catches, while Antwan Odom tied a Cincinnati club record with five sacks. "I still think it's a dream," Odom said about his performance. "I'm wondering when I'm going to wake up. I was coming free on a lot of one-onones and getting to the quarterback." Ryan Grant had 14 rushes for 46 yards and a TD and Donald Driver had six grabs for 99 yards and a score in defeat. Charles Woodson had a huge
game for the Packers defense, finishing with two interceptions, with one being returned for a score. With the game tied at 21-21, the Bengals went in front with 1:09 remaining in the third quarter after Ochocinco's 13-yard touchdown grab capped a 12-play, 62-yard drive that took 7:07 off the game clock. He then made a successful "Lambeau Leap." "It was fun," Ochocinco said about the "Lambeau Leap." "I had a little indecision on where to jump at first. I didn't want to disrespect their tradition." Palmer's five-yard touchdown pass to Coles near the midway point of the opening quarter capped a seven-play, 63-yard drive that put the Bengals ahead. However, Green Bay quickly responded when Rodgers hit Driver for a three-yard score in the front of the end zone to tie things at 7-7. Woodson picked off Palmer on the first play of the Bengals next possession which led to a fouryard scoring run from Grant that gave the Pack a 14-7 edge with almost 2 1/2 minutes left in the first.
Cincinnati evened the game in the early stages of the second when Palmer banged in from a yard out to finish off a brief three-play, six-yard drive that was set up by a 60-yard punt return by Quan Cosby. Woodson's 37-yard interception return for a touchdown at the midpoint of the second put Green Bay back in the lead. Henry then pulled in a five-yard TD catch in the back of the end zone with under 1 1/2 minutes left in the half to deadlock it. The game would remain 21-21 heading into the break after Crosby's field-goal attempt missed from 55 yards away. Game Notes Green Bay will visit St. Louis on September 27, while Cincinnati hosts Pittsburgh...Driver has now caught a pass in a club record 113 straight games...Packers offensive lineman Chad Clifton left with an ankle injury and did not return...Cincinnati leads the all-time series 6-5.
Final Score: Arizona 31, Jacksonville 17 Jacksonville, FL - Kurt Warner threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns, as the reigning NFC-champion Arizona Cardinals bounced back from a tough loss in Week 1 with a 31-17 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Warner, who completed 24-of-26 passes, connected on his first 15 attempts of the game to set a franchise record for most consecutive completed passes to start a contest. The 15 in a row tied a team mark set by Jake Plummer on November 8, 1998 against Washington. Warner also broke the NFL's single-game record for completion percentage by completing 92.3 percent of his passes. Tim Hightower rushed for 72 yards and a score on 15 carries for the Cardinals (1-1), who lost to the 49ers last week. Steve Breaston caught five balls for 83 yards while Larry Fitzgerald caught a TD pass for Arizona, which went 0-5 in the Eastern time zone last season. "The first win is so big," Fitzgerald said. "You had all offseason, all training camp, so much time SEPT. 24 - 30 2009
built up, to finally get it on the road on the East coast it means a lot." David Garrard connected on 23-of-43 passes for 282 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for the Jaguars (0-2), who lost to the Colts in Week 1. Mike Sims-Walker hauled in six passes for 106 yards and a TD. Maurice Jones- Drew had 66 yards on the ground in defeat. "I anticipated us playing better than we did today for sure," Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio said. "I told the team we're 0-2 and you need to turn your ears off because you're not going to like what you hear." After each team fumbled late in the second frame, Arizona took over at their own 32 with a chance to increase their lead before half. Warner took the Cardinals down the field and on the seventh play of the drive hit Jason Wright with a five-yard TD pass with one minute until the half. The 24-3 scored held up heading into the locker room. Rackers missed a 48-yard field goal wide right with 10:10 remaining in the third period. On the ensuing Jaguars possession, Garrard lost the ball WWW.411SPORTSNEWS.COM
when he was sacked by Karlos Dansby. R o l l e recovered the fumble for Arizona, which took total control of the game when Warner connected with Fitzgerald on a 22- yard pass with 5:28 left in the period. Garrard's 25-yard TD pass to Marcedes Lewis with 1:31 to go in the third and his 19-yard strike to Sims-Walker with 7:11 left in the fourth made the score seem closer than it really was. Game Notes Despite the loss, the Jaguars lead the all-time series with the Cardinals, 2-1...Cardinals QB Matt Leinart completed 3-of-6 passes for 22 yards, while Fitzgerald caught four passes for 34 yards...The previous completion percentage mark was set by Vinny Testaverde in 1993. Testaverde, who was playing for Cleveland at the time, connected on 21-of-23 passes versus the Los Angeles Rams.

RICE, SMITH HEADLINE HALL FAME NOMINEES BUSINESS IN THE NEWS The National Football League’s all-time leading receiver Jerry Rice and all-time leading rusher Emmitt Smith are among the list of 131 players, coaches and contributors who make up the preliminary list of modern-era nominees for election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of
2010. Rice and Smith are two of the seven firstyear eligible candidates on this year’s list of nominees. Join the debate From this preliminary list of modern-era nominees, Hall of Fame selectors will choose 25 candidates who will advance as semifinalist nominees. The list of 25 modern-era semifinalists will be announced on November 27. The 25 modern-era semifinalists list will be reduced by a mail ballot to 15 modern-era finalists that will be announced on January 7. The final list of nominees that will be considered for election will consist of the 15 modern-era finalists and the two previously announced senior nominees, former Detroit Lions cornerback Dick LeBeau and former Denver Broncos running back Floyd Little. LeBeau and Little were selected this past August by the Hall of Fame’s Senior Selection Committee.
The actual voting will be conducted at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee’s annual meeting, which will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2010 in South Florida the day before Super Bowl XLIV. The election results will be announced immediately afterwards. While there is no set number for any class of enshrinees, the selection process by-laws provide that between four and seven new members will be selected. The preliminary list includes 103 players, 10 coaches and 18 contributors, including former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue and longtime team owners Bud Adams, and Art Modell. The other first-year eligible nominees are kicker Gary Anderson, wide receiver Tim Brown, quarterback Rich Gannon, running back Eddie George, and cornerback/safety Aeneas Williams. To be considered for Hall of Fame election, a nominated player or coach must have been retired at least five years. A contributor, who is an individual who has made outstanding career contributions to pro football in capacities other than playing or coaching, may still be active in his pro football career.
The Class of 2010 will be selected from the list of 17 finalists (15 modern-era and two senior nominees).

SEPT. 24 - 30, 2009
Speech by Jordan: That’s What What Ya’ll Get!!! 411 SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT Goodness. Who knew his tank was filled with this much highly flammable fuel?
It wasn't because of the coach, the GM or the triangle offense. It was because of No. 23.
When Michael Jordan was done Friday night, it's a wonder anybody had eyebrows left, such was the (mostly) good-natured scorching he applied to his friends and foes. His Hall of Fame induction speech turned into a roll call of all the people whose insults, real or imagined, made him the competitor he was.
And No. 23 apparently had a lot of things prodding him during his 14-year career. Not demons. Memories. Slights. As we found out Friday night, the list of people who either knowingly or unknowingly motivated Jordan was phone-book long: Dean Smith, Buzz Peterson, Isiah Thomas, George Gervin, Magic Johnson, Pat Riley, Bryon Russell, his high school coach, Kevin Loughery and Jerry Reinsdorf. His brother. "Media naysayers" who said he could score, but he couldn't win.
He saved a high-powered flamethrower for former Bulls general manager Jerry Krause. Krause has denied he once said that organizations, not players, win championships, but that infamous quote or non-quote led to Jordan's sharpest remarks of the night. "Jerry's not here," he said. "I don't know who'd invite him. I didn't. I hope he understands it goes a long way. He's a very competitive person. I was a very competitive person. He said organizations win championships. I said, 'I didn't see organizations playing with the flu in Utah. I didn't see it playing with a bad ankle.' "Granted, I think organizations put together teams, but at the end of the day, the team's got to go out and play. I think the players win the championship, and the organization has something to do with it, don't get me wrong. But don't try to put the organization above the players." Wounds apparently don't heal in Jordan's world. It's interesting that 11 years after he retired from the Bulls, there is still a need to set the record straight on why and how the Bulls won six titles.
And for good measure, he chided the Hall of Fame for jacking up ticket prices because he was in this year's class. It's amazing the guy had time for thoughts that didn't involve revenge. He kept a mental checklist of all the people who he believed dissed him. Tar Heels teammate Peterson for being the North Carolina high school player of the year instead of Jordan. Russell for making the mistake of teasing a retired Jordan for being lucky he didn't have to face him. Oops, Jordan unretired and eventually hit a shot over Russell to win the Bulls' sixth title, against Utah. "I was in Chicago in 1994 ... and at this time I had no thoughts of coming back and playing the game of basketball," Jordan said. "Bryon Russell came over to me and said, 'Why'd you quit? You know I could guard you. If I ever see you in a pair of shorts ...' "When I did come back in 1995 and we played
Utah in '96, I'm at the center circle and Bryon Russell is standing next to me. I said, 'You remember the (comments) you made in 1994 about, 'I think I can guard you, I can shut you down, I would love to play against you? Well, you're about to get your chance.'" He called out Thomas, Gervin and Johnson for allegedly freezing him out at the All-Star Game in his rookie season. "You guys gave me the motivation to say, 'You know what? Evidently I haven't proved enough to these guys. I've got to prove to these guys that I deserve what I got at this level,'" he said. His speech was fun masquerading as a sharp object. It was in stark contrast to his comments at a news conference earlier in the day, when he took time to say he and Chicago were a package deal. He could have said he was the shark and Bulls fans were the pilot fish. But he didn't. "They took me in," he said. "And I had to earn my keep. They believed in me. I believed in them. That marriage lasted up until now. I will always, always have the deepest warmth for the city of Chicago and the support I've received from them. "Other than what I've done, I can't give back any more. And I wouldn't ask for any more. I just want them to be able to remember the things I contributed to the city. And hopefully at some point down the road, they can have another championship just so they can compare the two. I wouldn't be standing here without their support without a doubt." Chicago did not have an inferiority complex before he arrived, but it did have a superiority complex by the time he was done playing for the Bulls. At 46, he's looking older these days, his face a little more worn, a little puffier. Middle age is doing its work. But if there was ever a doubt, it's gone now: The fire is as high as ever.

A GAME DAY WRAP UP AND PREVIEW OF THE NEXT WEEKS GAMES Final Score: Oakland 13, Kansas City 10 Kansas City, MO JaMarcus Russell was able to put a poor performance behind him with 2 1/2 minutes to play and led the Raiders 69 yards with Darren McFadden finding the end zone for the gamewinner, as Oakland pulled out a 13-10 win over the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
third down to reach Oakland territory and scrambled for nine yards before connecting with Bowe on a fade route toward the left corner of the end zone.
Russell completed just 7-of-24 attempts for 109 yards, but was huge on 3rd- and-15 with under two minutes left, firing over the middle to Todd Watkins for 28 yards. Two plays later, McFadden emerged from the backfield off left tackle for a five-yard scamper inside the left pylon.
A personal foul penalty helped the visitors cross midfield and Russell hit McFadden for 11 yards. A pair of incompletions and a false start made it 3rdand-15 and Russell fired over the middle for Watkins to reach the 14. Another short pass to McFadden then set up his own five-yard TD.
Kansas City had 1:07 left to work with following the score but a sack by Greg Ellis on 3rd-and-1 disrupted Matt Cassel, whose fourth down pass fell incomplete.
"I was always on an even keel," said Russell. "I knew that we left plays out there on previous drives. I knew that we had to come up with something to come out like we did."
Kansas City gained 409 yards of offense but it remained a game of field goals until late in the fourth. The Chiefs embarked on a 72-yard drive with seven minutes left with Cassel completing 4of-5 pass attempts. He hit Wade for 12 yards on

A GAME DAY WRAP UP AND PREVIEW OF THE NEXT WEEKS GAMES Final Score: NY Jets 16, New England 9 East Rutherford, NJ Rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez made another good impression, throwing for 163 yards and a touchdown on 14-of-22 passing, as the New York Jets defeated the New England Patriots, 169. Jay Feely converted three field goals for the Jets (2-0), who had lost eight straight at home to their AFC East rivals. Jerricho Cotchery accumulated 87 yards on four receptions. Tom Brady, who was under seemingly constant pressure, completed 23-of-47 attempts for 216 yards and one interception for the Patriots (1-1). It's the first regular-season game Brady has lost since a 21-0 setback at Miami on December 10, 2006. All of New England's offense came via the leg of Stephen Gostkowski. Julian Edelman, a rookie out of Kent State, playing in place of the injured Wes Welker (knee), had 98 yards on eight catches. Joey Galloway caught five passes for 53 yards, while
Randy Moss was limited to 24 yards on four grabs. Leon Washington coughed up the football on the first play of the Jets' second offensive sequence. Leigh Bodden recovered the fumble for New England at the New York 17 yard-line. Not surprisingly, Jets head coach Rex Ryan challenged the ruling, which was upheld following a video review. The Patriots, though, committed two holding penalties and ultimately settled for a 45-yard Gostkowski field goal. A holding infraction on the ensuing kickoff meant the Patriots would start in the shadow of their own end zone. Brady hit Moss and Galloway on consecutive third downs to move the chains. Edelman then hauled in a short toss, slipped out of a defender's grasp and sprinted 19 yards to the New York 32. Brady found Sammy Morris for 14 yards on the next play, and threw a seven-yard completion to Ben Watson to set up a 2nd-and-3 at the 11. Brady's next two pass attempts went for naught, and Gostkowski was true from 29 yards away with 17 seconds remaining in the half.
"Those two drives coming out of halftime were great for us. We really responded," Sanchez said. The Patriots offense sputtered again, and Feely's 39-yard boot capped a 14- play drive that extended into the fourth quarter. New England got the ball back with just under 10 minutes remaining. Facing a 3rd-and-1 at their own 38, Fred Taylor was wrapped up for a loss and the Patriots were forced to punt. The Patriots had two more opportunities on offense, but failed to cross midfield on both occasions. Game Notes Taylor gained 46 yards on eight carries...Washington totaled 58 yards on the ground, while Thomas Jones rushed 14 times for 54 yards for New York...New England outgained the Jets, 299-254...New York is off to its first 20 start since 2004.

Philadelphia, PA - Drew Brees completed 25-of34 passes for 311 yards and three touchdowns as the New Orleans Saints dominated the Philadelphia Eagles, 4822, at Lincoln Financial
"I think that we have a chance to be better than the other teams we've been a part of," said Saints head coach Sean Payton about his club which reeled off consecutive 40-plus-point games to start the season. "We played pretty good today but there's always room for improvement. The goal for each week is to get better for the next and keep the focus on us." Marques Colston had eight receptions for 98 yards and two scores for the Saints (2-0), who hadn't won in Philadelphia since October 13, 1991. Mike Bell added 86 yards and a TD on 17 carries before leaving the game late with a knee injury while Reggie Bush also scored on the ground for New Orleans, which posted its most points

against the Eagles in franchise history. Kevin Kolb's first career start in place of the injured Donovan McNabb was unspectacular, as he was 31-of-51 for 391 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions for the Eagles (1-1), who had opened the season with a 38-10 drubbing of Carolina. "It wasn't right today in any phase," said Reid. "It was an absolutely horrendous performance. We came out in the second half and committed a turnover and it just slid downhill from there." Brees picked apart the Birds' defense on the first series of the game, going 5-for-5 and hitting Colston for a 15-yard score to cap a 74-yard drive. Kolb responded on the following series, hitting Jackson in stride for a 71- yard touchdown strike. The Saints were then helped by a shanked punt which landed near midfield, and Carney's 23yard field goal inside two minutes to go in the first quarter made it 10-7.

Akeem Jordan's pick at the Philly 27-yardline derailed a potential New Orleans scoring drive early in the second, and the Birds took 8:20 off the clock in 15 plays to tie the score on David Akers' 23yard boot with 2:38 left in the second quarter. Brees connected again with Colston for a 25yard TD and a 17-10 game with 43 seconds to go, then the Eagles climbed back within 17-13 on a 32-yard Akers make on the final play of the half. Game Notes Brees posted his 32nd career 300-plus-yard passing performance...Despite the setback, the Eagles lead the all-time series, 15-10, and have won six of the last eight regular-season meetings...For the Saints, it was the largest margin of victory over the Eagles in either regular season or playoffs since the team entered the NFL in 1967...Eagles safety Asante Samuel left the game early in the fourth and did not return due to a stinger. Shaun Hill completed 19-of-26 passes for 144 yards. Matt Hasselbeck connected on 10-of-18 passes for 97 yards before leaving the contest in the first half with bruised ribs. Seneca Wallace replaced Hasselbeck and completed 15-of-23 passes for 127 yards, a TD and an interception. Justin Forsett had 35 yards rushing and 57 yards receiving for the Seahawks (1-1), who shut out the Rams in their opener. Seattle head coach Jim Mora said after the game Hasselbeck was taken for X- rays, which came back negative. "We aren't about excuses. They beat us today.
They were a better football team than us today," Mora said. "We can't allow excuses to creep into our environment." The Seahawks put together a 10-play, 52-yard drive during their first possession of the second frame to make it a 10-3 game. T.J. Houshmandzadeh's 21-yard reception highlighted the drive, which Olindo Mare topped off with a 36-yarder. Nedney's 42-yard field goal with 2:57 remaining put San Fran ahead by 10 again. Seattle cut the gap to three with an impressive 11-play, 70-yard drive. Hasselbeck set up the Seahawks with a 2nd-and-goal at the 49ers fouryard line. Hasselbeck scrambled out of the pocket and dove shy of the end zone. San Fran linebacker Patrick Willis hit Hasselbeck in the back with 26 seconds left until half. Hasselbeck remained on the ground for several minutes before heading to the locker room. He didn't return to the contest. San Francisco's offense put together a 16-play drive that took 9:27 off the clock. We have to do a better job tackling. We have to do a better job on third down on offense. We have to do a better job overall, cleaning it up so that we can compete with anyone. That's what we're trying to do." Game Notes San Fran honored former owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. on Sunday, as he became the inaugural inductee into San Francisco's Hall of Fame. Final Score: Chicago 17, Pittsburgh 14
Chicago, IL - Robbie Gould split the uprights from 44 yards out with 15 seconds remaining and the Bears took advantage of two missed field goals from Pittsburgh's Jeff Reed in the final quarter to beat the defending Super Bowl champions, 17-14, in rainy conditions at Soldier Field.
Jay Cutler completed 27-of-38 passes for 236 yards with a pair of touchdowns for the Bears (11), who bounced back from a loss at Green Bay last week. "We're glad to get this one off our back and move on," said Cutler. "I think we went to Green Bay with the whole city of Chicago on us. We love it, we expect it out of ourselves. To get the first one behind us and get rolling, it's going to be good for us." Ben Roethlisberger went 23-of-35 for 221 yards with a TD and was picked off once for the Steelers (1-1), who began the season with an overtime win over Tennessee last Thursday. Reed was wide left on a 38-yard try with 11:37 remaining, and then the Bears marched down PAGE

the field to tie the game. Cutler finished off the nine-play, 72- yard march with a third down, seven-yard TD pass to Johnny Knox, who made a leaping catch in the front-middle part of the end zone with 6:21 left.
Cutler went 6-of-7 during the march, including a big 13-yard connection on 3rd-and-3 to Devin Hester to move to the ball to the Chicago 48. Cutler then hit tight end Greg Olsen for a 29yard gain. "There's no excuse," said Reed. "I missed two kicks and basically what it was, I was trying too hard on both of them. As a right-footed kicker you hook them. I'm just embarrassed because the guys fought their tails off to win the game and if there's one play that can single-handedly lose the game I'll take credit for it." The Bears avoided disaster immediately. Cutler connected with Matt Forte on a 12-yard pass. Forte fumbled, but Olsen recovered. Cutler converted a 3rd-and-4 with a five-yard pass to Hester, moving the ball to the 34. A short time later, Gould was called on the field and was good on his 14th straight field goal try. "I think the biggest thing is it was a hometown WWW.411SPORTSNEWS.COM
state team, Pittsburgh or Philadelphia," said Gould, who was born just outside State College and attended Penn State. "That's what's great about it. I had a lot of people who came to the game that were Steeler fans. They were cheering for me, but I don't know if they were cheering for me on that kick." But the usually reliable Steelers defense gave up their longest drive in three years in the second quarter. Cutler moved his team 97 yards, ending the drive on a six-yard TD pass to Kellen Davis with 19 seconds remaining in the half. Roethlisberger's two-yard run to the end zone with 5:26 left in the third put the Steelers on top again. The play occurred just after Rashard Mendenhall rumbled 39 yards off right tackle. Game Notes The Bears have 61 wins in home openers, the most in NFL history...Willie Parker rushed 14 times for 47 yards for the Steelers...Knox had six catches for 70 yards...Hines Ward caught six balls for 57 yards for the Steelers, while teammate Santonio Holmes made five grabs for 83 yards. A GAME DAY WRAP UP AND PREVIEW OF THE NEXT WEEKS GAMES Final Score: Denver 27, Cleveland 6 Orchard Park, NY Trent Edwards threw for two touchdowns and Fred Jackson gained a career-high 163 yards on 28 carries, as the Buffalo Bills defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 33-20, at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Edwards finished with 230 yards and one interception on 21-of-31 efficiency for the Bills (1-1). Terrell Owens had 52 yards and one score on three receptions, while Derek Schouman hauled in six passes for 62 yards before being carted off in the third quarter with an apparent right knee injury. Byron Leftwich completed 26-of-50 passes for 296 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions for the Buccaneers (0-2), who were playing in Buffalo for the first time in team history. Kellen Winslow, Cadillac Williams and Jerramy Stevens each made a touchdown grab. Coming off the gut-wrenching loss to New England in Week 1, in which Buffalo held an 11point lead with three minutes remaining before Tom Brady threw a pair of touchdown passes to tight end Ben Watson, the Bills raced out to a 17- point lead against Tampa Bay in the first
quarter. "Guys buckled down, I think we learned our lesson from last week," said Edwards. "It's a valuable lesson we're going to need throughout this season. The game is never over until it reaches double-zeroes on the clock. We have to finish games and that's what we did today." Edwards and Lee Evans hooked up for a 32-yard score on the Bills' opening drive. On the ensuing series, Leftwich was picked off by Donte Whitner, who dashed 76 yards down the far sideline for the touchdown. Rian Lindell booted a 31-yard field goal in the dying seconds of the frame. Tampa Bay answered on its next offensive sequence as Leftwich threw a 42-yard TD pass to Winslow, capping a five-play drive that took a little over two minutes. Jackson lost the handle on the ball as it popped up into the air. Tampa Bay safety Sabby Piscitelli secured the ball at his own 20-yard-line and sprinted down the left sideline before he was tackled by receiver Roscoe Parrish at the Bills eight.
Tampa Bay went threeand-out on its next drive, and Edwards hit Owens for a 43-yard TD. Stevens' six-yard score came with 5 1/2 minutes left to play. Tampa Bay failed on the two-point conversion. Lindell drilled a 20-yarder to account for the final score. "We dug ourselves in a very big hole today," said Leftwich. "Most of the time it's been us (the offense) making mistakes. We have to learn how to not do that. The difference is winning this football game was making four or five plays." Game Notes Tampa Bay was limited to 57 yards on the ground...Winslow and Williams both caught seven passes for 90 and 56 yards, respectively...Owens has a reception in 185 consecutive games, the third longest streak in NFL history...Bills right tackle Brad Butler was carted off the field with a right knee injury in the first half.

After neither team mounted any offense on their respective first possessions, Suisham nailed a 21-yard field goal with about five minutes left in the opening frame. The drive lasted 13 plays and covered 83 yards before it stalled at the threeyard line.
"It was a good pass by Marc Bulger, the DB made a great play for the ball," said Avery. "I know better than that, I should have had it high and tight. It's all on me, I lost it for the team."
"We have to go out this week and practice...a lot of it has to do with attitude," said Campbell. "We have to understand that every time we get the ball you never know which play could be the one to bust open (for a) score."
Washington stopped St. Louis on the following drive, and embarked upon a 13- play, 64-yard drive that stalled around the 10-yard line but culminated with a 28-yard boot from Suisham, which made it 6-0.
Marc Bulger was 15-of-28 passing for 125 yards and a touchdown for the Rams (0-2), who also dropped their Week 1 game against the Seahawks. Steven Jackson tallied 104 yards on 17 carries and added 15 yards on four catches. Laurent Robinson had 54 yards on six grabs and had the lone TD in defeat.
The Rams then began at their own 16, and on second down Jackson broke a 62- yard dash. However, Avery was called for an illegal block and the ball was moved to the 'Skins 36. A GAME DAY WRAP UP AND PREVIEW OF THE NEXT WEEKS GAMES Final Score: NY Giants 33, Dallas 31 Arlington, TX Lawrence Tynes' 37-yard field goal as time expired ended a backand-forth NFC East battle, as the Giants went into brand- new Cowboys Stadium and left with a 33-31 victory over arch-rival Dallas. The Cowboys went ahead, 31-30, on Felix Jones' seven-yard touchdown run with 3:40 remaining in the game, leaving plenty of time for Eli Manning to bring the Giants into field goal range. The Cowboys tried to freeze Tynes with a late timeout, but the kicker split the uprights after the first quick stoppage to spoil Dallas' historic home opener. The palatial new home for the Cowboys, which cost $1.15 billion to construct, is already part of NFL history, setting a regular-season attendance record in the first meaningful game played there. The 105,121 tickets distributed on Sunday eclipsed the 103,467 sold in a game between Arizona and San Francisco in Mexico City in 2005.
Manning ended with 330 yards on 25-of-38 attempts with two touchdowns, while Manningham and Steve Smith had their way with the Dallas secondary. Each receiver hauled in a touchdown during 10-catch efforts, as Manningham went for 150 yards and Smith for 134 for New York (2-0), which bested another divisional opponent, Washington, in Week 1. "It wasn't always pretty. We did have errors, we do have things to clean up, but we played hard, we created opportunities for ourselves," said Giants coach Tom Coughlin. Dallas took its first lead a little later, as Romo hit Witten in the end zone on a delayed out route on 3rd-and-goal from the one yard-line. As the half was winding down, Dallas started a drive deep in its own end zone, but another turnover proved costly. Romo threw behind Witten near the left sideline and the ball caromed off his hand and then unknowingly off the back of his left heel. The pigskin landed directly into the hands of Kenny Phillips and the Giants defensive back returned it for an apparent TD. "It's frustrating. I'm really disappointed in myself
right now," said Romo. "I'm really not okay with it right now and that's something I'll try to rectify, get better and improve." On the next play, Manningham hauled in a wellthrown deep ball from Manning for 49 yards. On the third play of the fourth quarter, Smith found himself wide open in the middle of the field for a 22-yard, go-ahead touchdown grab. Game Notes These teams played to a conventional homeand-home split last season. Dallas sacked Manning eight times in the previous meeting but did not record a sack on Sunday...Giants defensive end Justin Tuck injured his shoulder in the first half. X-rays came back negative, but Tuck did not return to the game and was on the sideline with his shoulder in a sling. Giants wide receiver Domenik Hixon also injured his knee in the game...Brandon Jacobs had 58 yards on 16 carries for the Giants, who were outgained on the ground, 251-97...Witten ended with a teamhigh five grabs for 33 yards.

Manning's offense had the ball for only 14:53 in the entire game, the lowest total for a winning team of any game since 1977 -- Indianapolis ran only 35 plays, while the Dolphins totaled 84. Each team added another field goal before halftime for a 13-13 score.
With 10 minutes remaining and the game tied, the Dolphins took over on their own 22 and went to the passing attack, a stark difference from the dominating rushing game they used for the first 50 minutes of the contest.
The march took 13 plays, went 80 yards and took nearly nine minutes to execute. The set involved 11 rushing plays for 68 total yards, and the only two passes saw Pennington convert crucial third down situations. Ronnie Brown ran in from three yards out 1 1/2 minutes into the fourth to put Miami in front.

A GAME DAY WRAP UP AND PREVIEW OF THE NEXT WEEKS GAMES Final Score: Houston 34, Tennessee 31 Nashville, TN Matt Schaub threw for 357 yards and four touchdowns on 25-of-39 passing, but it was Kris Brown's 23-yard field goal with 2:55 left that lifted the Houston Texans to a 34-31 win over the Tennessee Titans in a physical game filled with big plays. Andre Johnson had 10 catches for 149 yards and two scores for Houston (1-1), which began the season with a home loss to the Jets. The Texans overcame not only a 14-point deficit in the first half, but also a huge performance by the Titans' Chris Johnson, who accumulated 284 total yards and three scores. "After what happened last week, everyone having so many expectations, we didn't start off the way that we wanted to," Andre Johnson said. "What a way to come back and redeem yourself in an atmosphere like this." "I think what you saw out there today was a game of big plays," Titans head coach Jeff Fisher said. "Unfortunately for us, we didn't make enough in the second half to win this ballgame."
The teams combined to score 48 points in the first half, and Brown's field goal was the only scoring in a heated fourth quarter. Intensity between the teams ratcheted up throughout the game and boiled over with just under 10 minutes left, when they had a brief brawl on the sideline that saw Titans defensive lineman Jason Jones ejected. The brawl came during a Texans drive, with the score knotted at 31-31. A running play continued off the sideline, as more players from both sides concentrated in one area. The fracas ended soon after it began, though the referees assessed two penalties that offset each other. Houston wide receiver David Anderson was given a personal foul, while Jones got ejected and left the field to cheers from the crowd. A turnover then helped the visitors draw even. Collins threw a bullet up the middle under pressure, and it went directly to Eugene Wilson, who ran it back to the Titans 29. "It made me feel good coming through the line, I just had one man to beat," Chris Johnson said. "A lot of my offensive line stayed running downfield trying to get blocks downfield to help
me have a big day." But the Texans again tied the contest, thanks to an 11-play, 65-yard drive later in the quarter. A pass interference penalty gave Houston a first down at the one, and Schaub gunned a pass to the middle of the end zone for Owen Daniels to make it a 31-31 game. Game Notes Andre Johnson's 10 receptions give him 500 for his career...Texans guard Chester Pitts suffered a right knee sprain with 4:41 left in the second quarter...Titans defensive end Jevon Kearse appeared to suffer a right knee injury, while punter Craig Hentrich also suffered an injury...Houston had no turnovers...Brown's field goals and extra points put him over 1,000 career points. He had 10 in the game, boosting his career point total to 1,008...Texans rookie linebacker Brian Cushing led the team with 10 tackles...Schaub's four TD passes matched a franchise record.
Final Score: Washington 9, St. Louis 7 Landover, MD Shaun Suisham kicked three field goals to lead the Washington Redskins past the St. Louis Rams, 97, at FedEx Field. Jason Campbell completed 23-of-35 passes for 242 yards and added 28 yards on seven carries for the Redskins (1-1), who were coming off a Week 1 loss to the division rival Giants. Clinton Portis added 79 yards on 19 rushes and nine yards on two catches. Chris Cooley had 83 yards on seven receptions in the triumph. "We have to go out this week and practice...a lot of it has to do with attitude," said Campbell. "We have to understand that every time we get the ball you never know which play could be the one to bust open (for a) score." Marc Bulger was 15-of-28 passing for 125 yards and a touchdown for the Rams (0-2), who also dropped their Week 1 game against the Seahawks. Steven Jackson tallied 104 yards on 17 carries and added 15 yards on four catches. Laurent Robinson had 54 yards on six grabs and SEPT. 24 - 30 2009
had the lone TD in defeat. The Rams then began at their own 16, and on second down Jackson broke a 62- yard dash. However, Avery was called for an illegal block and the ball was moved to the 'Skins 36. Eight plays later, Bulger hit Robinson on a two-yard fade route to the left side of the end zone to give the visitors a 7-6 edge with about four minutes left in the half. "We were moving the ball well, we just had a couple of hitches in the offense," said Robinson. "We're going to get it patched out and keep it going for next week." The Redskins stopped the Rams on the opening drive of the second half, before starting at their own 21. The team drove all the way down, but again had to settle for a field goal as the trek stopped at the five. St. Louis then embarked on a drive that bridged the final two quarters. Starting at their own 25, the Rams drove all the way down to the Red Zone. However, as the club was inside the 10 Bulger hit Avery for a short pass before Chris Horton hit him and caused a fumble. Carlos Rogers scooped up the ball and Washington WWW.411SPORTSNEWS.COM
took over at its own six. The 'Skins went threeand-out and the Rams got the ball back. "It was a good pass by Marc Bulger, the DB made a great play for the ball," said Avery. "I know better than that, I should have had it high and tight. It's all on me, I lost it for the team." Game Notes Bulger became the Rams' all-time leader in completions, he has 1,861...The St. Louis defense allowed nine points, the fewest allowed since giving up nine in a victory over the 49ers on November 18, 2007...Jackson's 62-yard run in the second quarter was the longest of his career...Washington had four drives of more than 60 yards that faltered inside the 10-yard line...The Redskins lead the all-time series, 21-81...Redskins right guard Randy Thomas suffered a right triceps injury and left in the first half...Bulger fell to 2-1 against Washington.

JILL SCOTT: THE REAL THING
SPECIAL 411 SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT Has there been a bigger surprise in the world of Soul Music over the past five years than Jill Scott? As the new Millennium began, when both the soul and self-respect of modern urban radio were in question, Scott, along with artists such as Alicia Keys and India.Arie, captured audiences with a style of music that recalled the hopefulness of early 70s Soul music but with a modern sensibility. While each was important in opening doors to a new generation of female Soul singers, Scott, with her insightful, positive lyrics put to retro grooves, was perhaps the most important in demonstrating that intelligent, gentle prose - rather than simply a strong beat - could serve as a viable underpinning for modern Soul Music. Born in 1972 in North Philadelphia, Jill Scott grew up in the ghetto with her mom and grandmother. A deeply loved and gifted child, she learned to talk at only eight months and was reading by age four. Always the center of attention, her principal in elementary school described her as a little butterfly. After running from Jill's abusive stepfather, mother and child moved in with Jill's grandmother, with whom she had a very close bond. After a rough but memorable childhood, Scott attended Temple University, studying secondary education. She was planning on becoming a high-school English teacher. When she was placed at a school as a student-teacher, her fellow professors disapproved of her unique method of teaching the kids: she often incorporated singing and melody in order to help with memorization. Due to the negative comments she was receiving, she quit. Shortly thereafter, a friend helped her in joining a local theater troop. After some hard work, she earned a spot on the Canadian cast of Rent, began to do poetry readings and befriended some big names in the Philly artistic community, included Jeffrey A. Townes (DJ Jazzy Jeff). It was here that Scott's musical career took off. Scott is a poet who also happens to be a great singer, and her lyrics came to the attention of a number of artists in the late 90s, including Jazzy Jeff and Ahmir-Khalib Thompson (Ahmir "Questolove" Thompson) of the hip-hop group The Roots resulting in her work being recorded by the Roots and Eric Benet, among others. Scott wrote several songs in only three days during the summer of 1999. PAGE
18
One of them, entitled "You Got Me," was performed by Erykah Badu and The Roots, and won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance (Duo or Group). A few months later, after Jeff burned 100 demo CDs and marketed the soul singer, She was signed to the fledgling adult Soul label, Hidden Beach Records, in 2000. During this whole process and since then, she collaborated with Will Smith and Common, and worked on soundtracks for Down to Earth (2001), Wild Wild West (1999) and In Too Deep (1999) Her debut album, the aptly titled Words and Sounds Vol. 1, climbed the Soul and Pop album charts on the strength of the single, "A Long Walk." If the Neo-Soul movement had a rap against it, it was that it was perceived as largely "man-hating." Scott turned this stereotype on its ear, creating positive, intelligent songs that spoke sometimes candidly but often touchingly about love, with a element of appreciation and faith often absent from the material of many of her peers. Amazingly, she made 50 songs for her debut album and had a lot of trouble trimming it down. Finally, after much deliberation, "Who Is Jill Scott? Words & Sounds, Vol. I" was released in July 2000. It featured music that was youthful enough for the younger generation and soulful enough for those above 40. Accolades came pouring in for her unique contribution to hip-hop: "Who Is Jill Scott?" was certified platinum, and she received three Grammy nominations (including one for Best New Artist), three NAACP Image rewards and one Soul Train Award for Best Female R&B Album. Her fame carried her on stage as she performed on VH1's Divas Live with Aretha Franklin; speaking of Aretha, Jill Scott was the 2001 recipient of the Aretha Franklin Award as "Entertainer of the Year" at the Lady of Soul Awards. Following the success of Words, in 2001 Scott released The Experience: Jill Scott 826+, a live album that captured Scott's critically acclaimed live performances and also provided alternate versions of many songs from Words. Scott then took a couple years off, basking in the glow of her new marriage to husband Lyzel (about whom she sang on Words and Sounds). In 2003 she began working in earnest on Beautifully Human, WWW.411SPORTSNEWS.COM
her second studio album, which was released in August, 2004. Beautifully Human is perhaps even more personal than Words, and is again most interesting for Scott's lyrics. Other than the wonderful acid jazzy first single, "Golden," the disc is not about big hooks or particularly catchy melodies -- which makes Scott an acquired taste for many listeners. Instead, it is about extremely engaging prose, surrounded by tasty jazz, soul and hip-hop grooves and delivered in Scott's versatile fashion. The album's focus is again on love, broadly defined, including the sensual love of newlyweds, but also including the love of a community; love that is strong enough to overlook the weaknesses of each of its members. This is best illustrated in "Family Reunion," on which Scott lovingly talks about a gathering of imperfect family members, all struggling with personal issues but coming together due to and invisible yet powerful tie (and here finishing happily in a family dance to a Frankie Beverly record). Perhaps even stronger is "The Fact Is (I Need You)," a song that beautifully proclaims female independence while celebrating the mutual need of husband and wife for personal completeness. As honest a love song as you'll hear this year. Beautifully Human won't have you humming all day long to easy-to-digest melodies (this isn't a Lionel Richie album). But you'll be listening closer than you do to most discs, as Scott provides the feel of an urban coffee house and a nice change of pace from much of the mindless, beat conscious music that currently dominates pop and urban radio. In late 2006, Hidden Beach Records released a very good album of collaborations by Scott, but fans were really waiting for her next studio album. Long waiting fans began to breathe easier when Jill Scott released the album The Real Thing in 2007 featuring the blistering first single, "Hate On Me," a brilliantly soulful cut with her singing her heart out. Film and television (from Wikipedia) On the advice of her good friend, director Ozzie Jones, she began pursuing a career in acting in 2000. She joined a fellowship at a theater company in Philadelphia. For two years, she took small, menial, jobs in exchange for acting lessons. SEPT. 24 - 30, 2009
JILL SCOTT: THE REAL THING In 2004, Scott expanded her resume by appearing in several episodes of season four of UPN's Girlfriends, playing Donna, a love interest to main character, William Dent. She also appeared in the Showtime movie Cavedwellers, starring Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick. In 2007, Scott appeared in Hounddog (as Big Mama Thornton) and in Tyler Perry's movie, Why Did I Get Married? In 2008, Scott appeared as Precious Ramotswe in Anthony Minghella's film adaption of Alexander McCall Smith's series of books The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency playing a detective. Scott then filmed additional episodes for the series in Botswana in late 2008, cofunded by the BBC and HBO, which was broadcast as a seven part series on BBC1 in March 2009; and on HBO, which debuted March 29, 2009. Jill will reprise her role as Sheila in the sequel to Why Did I Get Married? (2007). The movie is set to shoot in August for an April 2, 2010 release. Charity work Wikipedia)

Scott has established the Blues Babe Foundation, a program founded to help young minority students pay for university expenses. The Blues Babe Foundation offers financial assistance to students between the ages of sixteen to twentyone, and targets students residing in Philadelphia, Camden, and the greater Delaware Valley. Scott donated USD$100,000 to help start the foundation. The foundation was named after Scott's grandmother, known as "Blue Babe". On the foundation's website, it defines its mission statement as one where it "seeks to provide financial support and mentoring for those students who have shown the aptitude and commitment to their education, but whose families may not have the resources to ensure completion of their undergraduate degrees". In the spring of 2003, the Blues Babe Foundation made a donation of more than $60,000 to the graduating class of the Creative Arts School in Camden, New Jersey. Any student who maintained a 3.2 GPA received a yearly stipend for the next three years that was put toward his or her college education. HE SAY/ SHE SAY
Is respect EARNED or AUTOMATICALLY GIVEN? He Says... Automatically given @ 1st but has to be earned when taken for granted by the person receiving it.
She Says... I think that I just PREFER to give people the BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT based on how I "sum things up" for ME. It's based on my experience with people AND how I feel lead (really in my spirit/gut). I can pick up things about people. It comes down to OUR definition of "RESPECT".
He Says... You get my respect walking thru the door. The only things your actions can do after that is take it away if they are not proper. You earn my respect by breathing, you lose my respect by breathing fire (negativity). Everybody deserves the benefit of the doubt.
She Says... With me its a given... It shows a lot when you give it regardless of someone else's action. I can only be accountable for me and how I treat people. Even if I feel you don't respect me or even deserve my respect, I still give it to you. Everything with me is about teachable moments. That include leading by example...
He Says... You don't meet a stranger and just automatically say, "Hey you ugly mother*****". You don't go to a job interview and your first words are, "Hey you cock-eyed son-of-b****!" When you first meet people, you automatically give them respect. However, if they do something against you or your character, then they may lose that respect in your eyes.
She Says... re·spect (r-spkt) tr.v. re·spect·ed, re·spect·ing, re·spects 1. To feel or show deferential regard for; esteem. 2. To avoid violation of or interference with: respect the speed limit. 3. To relate or refer to; concern. n. 1. A feeling of appreciative, often deferential regard; esteem. See Synonyms at regard. 2. The state of being regarded with honor or esteem. 3. Willingness to show consideration or appreciation. 4. respects Polite expressions of consideration or deference: pay one's respects. 5. A particular aspect, feature, or detail: In many respects PAGE

HE SAY/ SHE SAY this is an important decision. 6. Usage Problem Relation; reference. See Usage Note at regard. There is a difference between respecting someone and tolerating someone. Just by meeting you, I don't know anything about you to respect you or hold you a high regard or esteem. I think like trust, respect is something that is earned.
He Says... You have my respect immediately and only by your hand will you lose my respect for you.
She Says... Automatically given at first. The way I see, it, is that I start everyone I meet, and know with 100%. It is on them whether they add or subtract from it.
He Says... Respect should given to everyone, but its up to the individual to earn the right to keep it.
She Says... I automatically give respect. If I lose respect for you, I just don't deal with you. If I have to deal with you, then you will have to earn my respect back. I treat you how you treat me.
He Says... People have different connotations of respect. Until that is defined, then this will be a constant back-and-forth issue. I am cordial and nice upon meeting people, but respect is basically when you hold someone in high regards, someone you perhaps revere
She Says... When you give respect you earn it in return...its a reciprocated process...do unto others as you would want them to do unto you..
He Says... It is automatically given. However, once someone does something to lose your respect, it has to be earned back.

LOS ANGELES – Katherine Jackson's attorney says a judge's ruling that she can challenge the administrators of her son's estate could result in a deal that will determine control of the singer's gargantuan assets. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff determined in a ruling released Friday that Michael Jackson's mother can argue against keeping the men currently administering her son's estate without being disinherited. Jackson's mother had sought a favorable ruling from Beckloff that she could contest the authority of attorney John Branca and music executive John McClain to guide the pop singer's fortune. The men were named executors of the estate, which could be worth more than $500 million, in Michael Jackson's 2002 will. Beckloff's ruling clears the way for further arguments and possibly a hearing on whether the men were best suited to control the Jackson's considerable estate. The pair have already brokered deals for a movie, books, museum show and various memorabilia that are expected to generate tens of millions of dollars. Katherine Jackson's legal team, however, has sought to challenge one or both of the men's authority. A key roadblock was whether a challenge would be deemed a contest to Michael Jackson's will. A provision of the singer's private trust — which calls for his mother to receive 40 percent of his assets — calls for anyone that challenges the will to be disinherited. "We now hope to resolve the outstanding administration matter, without further costly litigation, in the best interests of the beneficiaries which are Mrs. Jackson and her grandchildren," Katherine Jackson's attorney, L. Londell McMillan wrote in a written statement after Beckloff's ruling. He noted that although Katherine Jackson was pleased with the ruling, she continues to mourn her son, who was interred earlier this month at a private cemetery in Glendale, Calif.
Most of Katherine Jackson's arguments for why she should be allowed to challenge Branca and McClain's authority have been sealed, but Beckloff noted in his ruling that they raised several issues, including whether Michael Jackson was under "undue influence" when he signed his 2002 will. Katherine Jackson's attorneys may challenge Branca or McClain's fitness as administrators of the estate, or they may seek a member of Jackson's family or trusted adviser to become a co-administrator. Katherine Jackson's attorneys have noted that her son chose to have three men serve as executors of his estate, although one dropped out after the singer's will was signed. Attorneys for Branca and McClain did not challenge Katherine Jackson's petition for a ruling. If her attorneys were to opt to formally challenge the authority of one or both of the men, then Beckloff would convene a hearing and hear testimony. Katherine Jackson's attorneys have not objected to most of the deals Branca and McClain have negotiated to date, although they raised concerns about a deal involving concert promoter AEG Live for a memorabilia exhibit. Other deals include a $60 million agreement with Columbia Pictures to create a movie using footage of Jackson's final rehearsals for a series of London comeback concerts. The film will be released in theaters for a limited time beginning in late October, and the agreement allows special additions to be produced for DVD sales. Beckloff ruled over Katherine Jackson's objections that the exhibit of her son's items — including some of his possessions from Neverland Ranch — could go forward. Michael Jackson's music and merchandise has sold briskly since his death on June 25. The singer died in considerable debt, a fact underscored by creditor's claims that continued to be filed in his estate case. This week, two claims filed by Jackson's former hairdresser and a law firm totaled more than $243,000, and the singer was involved in several pending civil lawsuits when he died. Attorneys for Branca and McClain have repeatedly said they consider Jackson's estate solvent. Experts predict that it could eventually grow to be worth more than another music superstar who died unexpectedly — Elvis Presley. Katherine Jackson and her three grandchildren are the only three people named to receive money from the estate. They stand to receive a combined 80 percent stake of the singer's estate; the remaining share is slated to go to unnamed charities. The estate is currently paying more than $86,000 a month to support Jackson's mother and children, who range in ages from 7 to 12. Katherine Jackson has been named the permanent guardian of the children as was called for in the 2002 will. PAGE

WHAT WILL OPRAH DO WHEN SHE RETIRES?
PERSONALS
THE URBAN EXPERIMENT Oprah retirement Oprah Winfrey has announced her retirement from her popular TV show in 2011. The question all of us loyal fans have on our minds is just what will the queen of daytime do once she gives up her crown? 1. Replace Biden as Vice President Joe Biden is a liability with medical problems and Oprah would bring a ringer in as a popular woman for his 2012 re-election. The 2011 date for her retirement is no coincidence. 2. Pull a Brett Favre and Un-Retire Sure she promised to retire but celebrities pull that crap all the time. She’ll be just like Brett Favre pull an emotional retirement then show up on another channel for new money next season.

With a love of food and a competitive desire that won’t quit she will combine the two and go on the professional eater’s circuit.

THE GAMES COVER ARE UNDER WAY...
A GAME DAY WRAP UP AND PREVIEW OF THE NEXT WEEKS GAMES Final Score: Buffalo 33, Tampa Bay 20 Orchard Park, NY Trent Edwards threw for two touchdowns and Fred Jackson gained a career-high 163 yards on 28 carries, as the Buffalo Bills defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 33-20, at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Coming off the gut-wrenching loss to New England in Week 1, in which Buffalo held an 11point lead with three minutes remaining before Tom Brady threw a pair of touchdown passes to tight end Ben Watson, the Bills raced out to a

17- point lead against Tampa Bay in the first quarter. "Guys buckled down, I think we learned our lesson from last week," said Edwards. "It's a valuable lesson we're going to need throughout this season. The game is never over until it reaches double-zeroes on the clock. We have to finish games and that's what we did today." Lindell converted from 43 yards out, and Buffalo was on the verge of extending its lead, marching deep into Tampa Bay territory, until there was a huge swing in momentum late in the second quarter. Jackson lost the handle on the ball as it popped up into the air. Tampa Bay safety Sabby Piscitelli secured the ball at his own 20-yard-line and sprinted down the left sideline before he was tackled by receiver Roscoe Parrish at the Bills eight. On the next play, Leftwich found Williams in the end zone, trimming the deficit to 20-14. Lindell's third field goal of the game -- a 27yarder -- made it 23-14 with 11:23 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Tampa Bay went three-and-out on its next drive, and Edwards hit Owens for a 43-yard TD.
