Gustave Désiré Liebau patented the seat belt in the format it is known today. It happened in 1903. Nevertheless, just as most inventions from that time other people were also working on the development of such item. The military doctor Coronel Stapp was one of them. He already had another model. However, a curious fact about this equipment is that it already existed. It was used officially for the first time by pilots that ran the Paris-Marseille race in 1896.
Security Belt Brief history of the security belt
Now, the first car with a security belt was released in 1949 by Nash. Although, it became popular with the 1958 Chevrolet Corvette. This vehicle had a two abdominal points seat belt. The one with three points was only developed in the next year by the Swedish engineer Nils Bohlin, who worked at Volvo.

prepared engine will get a new carburation system
The Opala was produced by "General Motors Brasil" from 1968 to 1992. Such car adquired a huge amount of admirers and was considered robust, comfortable and spacious since its release in the 1968 “Salão do Automóvel” Opala’s bodywork is inspired by Rekord, a vehicle from GM’s subsidiary in Germany, the Opel. Moreover, its style and power are very similar to USA's model, Impala. That’s the mixture which originated the name. “Opel + Impala”. The fabrication of this car happened at GM’s factory in São Caetano do Sul. It lasted for 23 years and the original project was kept into production ceased. Two types of motorization were offered. One had four cylinders and the other six. Now, this Opala at Sergio Performance’s workshop, which is there for an adaptation of its carburation system, is a SS with the 250-S engine from 1974 with mechanical pushrods. This version was released to rival the Maverick and the Charger R/T. However, this engine is prepared. It has six cylinders, works with ethanol, compression rate of 12:1 and has a command. Sergio, the responsible for the preparation, said: “This Opala had a triple carburation system and could reach 300 HP. But, it wore out and the owner brought it here to the workshop. That’s when he decided to order a Weber 48 installation. He kept it with a carburetor, to keep the vehicle Old School”. Such engine’s adaptation, according to Sergio, will deliver more power to the Opala. Besides, it will get way more interesting to be driven around.
VW Beetle TURBO Double carburation vehicle will gain an injection system to fix flaws
Text: Rafael Pires Photos: Rafael Pires
This is already the eighth edition of the 100% Motor Classics magazine and into today it had no stories about Beetles. The vehicle appeared at commentaries while the subject was another car, but the wait is over. This time, Sergio Performance’s workshop received a Turbo Beetle with double carburation. Sergio Pires, the responsible for the vehicle’s preparation, said: “This car came here to install an electronic injection”. “This new alimentation system was necessary to fix the bad calibration of the car. The car was hitting its pin”, affirmed Sergio about why this Beetle needs updates. Now, hitting the pin, according to the auto mechanic and old vehicles enthusiast, José Carlos Finardi, means detonation, which is recurrent from an irregular flame in the cylinder. He explained: “A car its hitting its pin when ignition is advanced and there’s no effective correction from the system. Nevertheless, it also can be a fuel mixture deficiency duo to over alimentation. Both definitions might cause the engine to break”. Sergio yet said that this car, in the conditions it founds itself, might have 140 HP. “Which is three times more power than an average 1.6 Beetle”, commented Sergio. He yet continued: “After the injection system’s installation the car will gain more power and driving it will be much easier. Pressure will increase, the stoichiometric range will be ideal and the advance will be corrected electronically”. However, this Beetle just got to the workshop, the switch is yet to happen. That’s why, the results already have a guaranteed place in the next 100% Motor Classics magazine’s edition.
FIAT 147 Van The van version of the first car made by Fiat in Brazil Text: Rafael Pires Photos: FCA Group Collection
When Fiat do Brasil inaugurated its factory in Betim, Minas Gerais, the first vehicle it produced was the 147. This car had an excellent internal space exploitation, was economic and stable. Initially, Fiat’s idea by manufacturing the 147 was competing with the VW Beetle, which was undeniably much inferior in matters of consumption and performance. That’s why, the Italian brand’s vehicle would rival cars like Brasilia and the Chevrolet Chevette. Besides, the success of the 147 was so huge that it gained many versions. Among them, the van. This model was produced between 1977 and 1987. According to FCA’s press accessory, 12848 units were sold throughout the country.

toyota corolla 1966 Text: Rafael Pires Photo: toyota-global.com
“Corolla” in Latin means “Flowers Crown” and symbolizes happiness and triumph. The first generation of this vehicle was presented in November 1966. This car had 12 generations into today and they all shared the same concept of reliability, financial accessibility and efficiency. It has more than 50 years of history. When the original Corolla got to the market, Toyota released it with the phrase: “The most wanted car in the market – presented to the world with Toyota’s Technology’s essence”. It happened because it was the first time many technologies from the vehicle were applied for domestic usage.
The first generation of Toyota’s noblest vehicle, which brought to the Market the essence of the brand’s technology Moreover, the leader developer of the project, Tatsuo Hasegawa, left the following message: “To make a car that really gets used by families, this car needs to be satisfactory in terms of performance, comfort, feeling and many other factors. Even if it satisfies in all criteria, its market and maintenance price cannot be too high or it won´t be a success. Besides, you cannot diminish quality to reduce costs; everything in the vehicle needs to score a high grade. Even so, only these things don’t make the car attractive. In order
to capture consumers interest right away, the vehicle needs evident superior qualities in comparison to others. Initially, the Corolla was offered in two versions. One was a sedan with two or four doors and the other was a station wagon. Soon after its release the car gained many complements and became its class best seller. Australia was the first importation market, Corolla got there in the same month it was released in Japan. Besides, the first Corolla’s generation counted with a OHV 1100 ccs engine called K Pushrod. The
transmission was manual and had four gears and a sports lever incredibly remarkable for the time. The sits were firm and comfortable and the rear space was enormous. It even seemed like a living room. A contrast to its compact design was the selling height, it never passed any impressions of lack of space. The Corolla was a car that stood out between others. Its reputation was also great. According to Toyota, whenever the vehicle arrived to a consumer, it would gather crowds.
