SIRIN ARAFA... An International Fashion Affair! Since she was a little girl, Sherine Arafa was fascinated by well dressed women, this fascination trained her eye to pay attention to fabrics, textures, colors and lines. This little girl grew into an amazing designer by enrolling into La Salle Academy in Istanbul to fulfill her lifelong crave for fashion design. In 2012 she launched her brand Sirin Arafa, her debut SS12 collection created a hype of its own; it being rooted in our culture made every piece special and unique reflecting something of who we are. The brand’s SS13 collection is inspired by Nubia, as Sirin studied the culture’s architecture, lines and colors, she created a mixture of Nubian culture and modernity to be the foundation of this collection. I’m 17 and finishing school next year. I see other kids and teens wearing trendy clothes and looking quiet fashionable even when in their school outfits. I don’t know how to look cool or even dress up in a hip way like all my peers do. Next year I’ll be in college and I still feel as if I’m dressing like a little 10 year-old girl….. Hind At your age, it’s expected to look cool and super stylish!! You’ve surpassed the 10 year-old look, yet it’s still too early for the ladylike look, so go crazy as you wish and enjoy your teen years up till you finish college. Check out and visit teens, high school and college fashion sites, there are a lot of them out there. Also teen magazines could be useful. Also there are several clothes lines that target the trendier young generation where you can shop, such as TRF at Zara, MNG Denim at Mango, ONLY at Vero Moda and DIVIDED at H&M.
I love shopping a lot, but I always face a problem; if I find someone wearing something I bought, I get turned off and never wear it again. I like to wear things that only I wear and no one else wears. I know it’s almost impossible, but I just like to look unique……. Taya It is impossible to wear something that no one else wears. This is extremely difficult especially that even though international brands are becoming very popular in Egypt, still they’re few, so people end up buying from the same available stores. Nevertheless, this problem could be solved; try to find other alternative shopping channels such as online boutiques, Facebook shopping, young designers, shopping abroad, bazaars and open days. Mixing and matching from several shopping channels will give you the distinctive look you need.
Why do all shops have daring and revealing clothes all over their display windows? I don’t think it’s appropriate to wear any of these clothes in Egypt. Lots of backless dresses, very low rise pants, hot shorts and micro skirts. Why do they even get it? No one can wear any of this anywhere here or in any other Arab country…….Khadija You need to know that any local or international brand here or anywhere else sells to their target market. This means they know who will buy these garments, when and where. In other words, people are different and wear different outfits on different occasions. The truth is a lot of Egyptians and other Arab nationalities do wear the items you listed above. Yes you definitely can’t wear these clothes in the streets of Cairo for instance, but others wear them in random other places, such as private beaches, clubs, home/indoor gatherings, pool parties or while traveling. So it’s just a matter of knowing what to wear and where you wear it.

Awards Season 2013
Best & Worst Dressed Editor’s Pick (part1) By Mahamad El Haddad
Best
Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture, Chopard jewels, and Roger Vivier clutch. Once in a blue moon comes along a dress that is too good for words. The face of Miss Dior accepted her Oscar win in a classic and timeless voluminous brocade drop-waist gown that went down in fashion history and will be talked about for years to come. Angelic.. impeccable.. superb … you name it!
Halle Berry in Versace. The movie star shimmered on the red carpet in this outstanding beaded frock that stood out for sure. Metallic , geometric , structured shoulders . This is one dress that just keeps getting better and better.
Naomi Watts in custom made Armani Privé . Like a beautiful alien glittering her way from outer space. The futuristic neckline is truly novel and spectacular. Naomi complemented her glitzy gown with a soft up-do and pastel makeup. A look definitely worthy of winning most innovative category!
Jessica Chastain in custom Armani Privé and Harry Winston jewels. Channeling old Hollywood glamour in a bronze sparkly beaded gown that is matched to perfection to JC’s copper hair with red lipstick adding the perfect pop of color to this picture perfect look.
Sandra Bullock in Elie Saab Haute Couture. Pulling off a beaded gown from head to toe is no easy task, but the A-list movie star does with flying colors! The embroidery detailing, lace paneling and cap sleeves is 20’s inspired with a modern twist. Glamorous is an understatement.
Oscars
Kerry Washington in Miu Miu, Christian Louboutin shoes, and Prada clutch. It is a very alarming sign when your dress resembles some kind of skin disease or rash. Oh and those shoes raising its ugly head. So that is one look that will leave us in hives.
CFR 12
Anne Hathaway in Prada. Well that was a major disappointment. The dress is pale and totally washed out the Oscar winner, it is absolutely shapeless, boxy and flat, oh and don’t get us started on those atrocious side bust darts that will give you nightmares. #Fail!
Nicole Kidman in L’Wren Scott. The taste level of this dress is definitely questionable which leads to another question; what is up with Kidman’s (worst dressed repeat offender) red carpet choices lately? One will never know... and probably for the best!
Kristin Chenoweth in Tony Ward. Funny Lady… gaudy dress. Well usually the comedian makes us laugh but this time Kristin the joke is on you! The dress was so ugly, the actress herself changed into a marvelous Carolina Herrera gown as she closed the Oscars ceremony. Enough said!
Worst
Olivia Munn in Marchesa. For starters red and gold, one of the tackiest color combos. The dress itself is so heavy, busy and deconstructed. Somewhere Oprah is screaming who stole my curtains?!
Best
Lucy Lui in Carolina Herrera. Unfortunately not everyone got this dress, but personally I think LL looks like a princess in the garden of Eden, the side pockets were such an unexpected surprise for this ball gown, and going for minimal make up and jewelry with a side swept fishtail braid made this whole look a breath of fresh air on the red carpet.
Julianna Marguiles in Emilio Pucci. The Good Wife star never looked better on the red carpet twinkling like a star in this midnight blue beaded lace piece of art.
Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad and Jimmy Choo clutch. The nude lining matches J Lo’s skin tone to perfection, making this ivory embroidered lace overlay the poster child for nude illusion dresses. J Lo’s grin screams “and this is how you do it ladies”!
Kelly Osbourne in Zac Posen and Judith Leiber clutch. So sleek and chic; Kelly O looks oh so statuesque while channeling old Hollywood glamour. For sure one of my all time favorites. A+
Barbara Palvin in Chanel Haute Couture. The Hungarian model hits all the right trends right on the mark with the oversized sleeves, metallic belt and mirror clutch. Pretty in pink indeed!
Golden Globes Worst Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen. Flyshaped gold studs and sheer mesh midriff… really? Such an age inappropriate dress for such the wrong event. Well at least Kidman’s body is smashing, we’ll give her that.
Jessica Chastain in Calvin Klein Collection. Why? Just why would someone want to sag in such an ill-fitting horror of a dress?! Well I think the look on the woman’s face behind her says it all.
Halle Berry in Atelier Versace. Oh where do I begin… It is like this dress is so ugly that it has an identity crisis. From the disproportionate bust line, to the misplaced cutout, oh and the wannabe “Angelina” leg thrust. Bad bad bad!
Kerry Washington in Miu Miu, Prada shoes and bag. Okay here is the mystery; Miu Mui such a fashion forward brand, Kerry such a bonafide fashionista, but for some reason both DO NOT mix (check out repeat offender in Oscar’s worst dressed list).
Sienna Miller in Erdem. Somewhere a frantic schizophrenic Hello Kitty is yelling where the hell is my outfit?! Even Miller’s oblivious facial expression is screaming what have I done?!
