OFFSHORE FLEET BY ERIC OESTERLE
Last year, James (Jim) Murray’s Callisto won the Buoy Division of the 2021 CYC Offshore Championship Series and Adam Collins’ Perspicacity won the Distance Division. The CYC Offshore Championship Series will be held this year too. It is open to both CYC Offshore Fleet and CYC Cruising Fleet members. There will be two divisions: (1) the Distance Division; and (2) the Offshore Division. Qualifying races will include the Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series - Chicago (f/k/a the NOODs), the Chicago-Michigan City-Chicago night race, the Race to Mackinac, the Offshore Verve Cup, the Bi-State Regatta, the Chicago Regatta and the Sheldon Clark Regatta. A complete list of the qualifying races for each Division and of the eligibility and other requirements for this Series can be found in the Notice of Series (NoS) for this year’s Championship Series.
Prizes will be awarded, at the Offshore Fleet’s year-end celebration, in each Division to the top five finishers. The winners of each division will win the coveted blue blazers (together with patches) like the ones Jim Murray and Adam Collins won last year. It’s easy to enter (just race in qualifying events), and there’s no fee. We hope to see many of you race and qualify for awards. ✶
