Wintertime. Our feet wave goodbye to feeling fancy free in flip flops to face being smothered inside socks and crammed into boots, with fungal infections going unnoticed. However, The Barn Clinic in Sharrow aims to banish fungal feet. Complaints such as Athlete’s Foot and corns can be quickly contracted in the winter months due to foot health being forgotten. These are quite easily treated however, unlike other common conditions like Onychomycosis, or Toenail Fungus. This requires more effective action and, thanks to state-of-the-art YAG laser treatment, fabulous fungus-free feet can be achieved.

“This is a tremendous achievement in the advancement of treatment of nail fungus” A number of patients are unable to tolerate traditional oral medications that could impair kidney and liver function and the YAG laser makes treatment possible. The laser works

It takes less than an hour for infected toenails to be treated, allowing patients to walk out of the clinic and resume normal activities. Treated nails don’t fall off and are gradually replaced by new, healthy nail growth. The treatment requires no anaesthesia, is noninvasive and with no known side effects. “The YAG laser technology system uses fungicidal laser light near the infrared spectrum to kill the pathogens responsible for toenail fungus, often with a single treatment”, explains Robin Weaver, HPC registered Podiatrist with over 15 years experience, and one of the few Podiatrists in Britain to use this revolutionary treatment.

“ Old is gold but in my case I haven’t got gold, I’m platinum! ” www.asianchic.co.uk

?

As a young kid, I always had the dream of becoming some sort of champion... a world champion! And watching movies like Rocky, and actors like Bruce Lee. Watching boxing inspired me, great fighters like Muhammad Ali, Sweet Pea Whitaker, Dany Bill, Silapathai, Roy Jones, Terdkiat Somrak Samart… The list can go on and on, believe me! These all had an influence on me. My style of fighting influenced me a lot - I was always full of energy as a young kid - that helped!

?

My father. He showed me as young child growing up that nothing’s easy and that you’ve got to have patience and trust in Allah, but at the same time true grit and determination that i’ve got to be like no other person or fighter, that with hard work always comes success.

?

Firstly Allah The Almighty and then Muhammad saw our beloved prophet. Then all my family, mother and father’s prayers are the best. My brothers Javid, Shahid, Waheed, Macsood and my sister Naheed. My trainers Mick and Trix who helped me to capture two world titles, and Pi Kob, the owner of Sasiprapa Gym in Thailand, who helped me on the main stage in Thailand. Boo Sasiprapa who I once fought and now train with in Thailand, who is like a brother to me, love the kid. My sponsors Hillbrook Motors, Al Murad, Body Active and Eurofleet. And finally all my good friends. I will train hard as usual, and sit down with my promoter and coach to see where to go from there with The of Allah to more success.

I train with Richard Smith at Bad Company in Leeds. They’re a fantastic team with great fighters. It’s a privilege to work with such a team.

?

I train six times a week. I then train 12 to 13 times a week for eight weeks when approaching a fight, twice a day.

Like I said before, I always wanted to be a world champion. Believing this and working hard towards it made it easy. I’ve got to thank Allah The Almighty.

08

(Laughs) Old is gold but in my case I haven’t got gold, I’m platinum! There are always haters and what’s old? 31, man, be real! In my last fight it just wasn’t meant to be. I was winning the fight and just got caught, it was just one of those things. All praise and glory be to Allah. No, not past it, a boxer like me lasts longer because boxers like me fight smart, are slick and avoid getting caught up in stupid wars with their opponents. I’ve won 43 fights, lost 7 times and drawn twice. I remember reading a newspaper when I was young a kid and it said, “Don’t write off the champ, he’ll be back”. They were talking about the ring genius, Namkabun. All I can say is, don’t write off the champ!

?

Not hard really, I stick to a good diet and train hard. This way I can keep an eye on my weight. I keep my mind focused, thinking sharp and eating smart.

win or lose, unfortunately it was a loss, but I know it’s how you come back from a loss that makes you the fighter, you are the real champ. I will train harder and smarter than ever for my next fight and win insha Allah with ease. I’m not to look at the past and just move on to bigger and better things... I believe this.

I knew it was going to be a hard fight, knowing my opponent and after a 12 month lay off. But I also know I can and will do better next time; every fighter will

Essential Beauty Review 605-607 Attercliffe Road, Sheffield, S9 3RD 0114 244 8888/ 0114 244 9905

www.essentialbeautysheffield.co.uk With the party season upon us, there’s never been a better time to be looking red-carpetfabulous. Attercliffe is Sheffield’s hidden beauty haven, so we popped down to Essential Beauty to discover the latest and exclusive treatments added to the salon’s impressive repertoire. One of the key elements to a stunning look is a beautiful set of eyebrows. The HD Brows treatment is the secret to a perfect appearance, treating you to beautifully sculptured brows, no matter if yours are overgrown or over-plucked. The treatment combines seven steps including tinting, waxing and threading to create the perfect shape, colour and style. Expertly customised to the client’s individual look, HD Brows can create miracles, giving sensational brows to those with little or very fair brows, or taming even the most unruly of brows. The treatment lasts for about three weeks and once you’ve tried it, you’ll be hooked!

“ Eyebrow Queen ” HD Brows are a must on the celebrity circuit. Even Katie Price has been trained in the art and Cher Lloyd’s eyebrows were transformed from scary to striking on the X Factor with the help of leading HD Brows artist, Nilam Patel. Although Essential Beauty’s therapist, Nagina, has 15 years of brow experience under her belt and has affectionately been crowned the “Eyebrow Queen”, she completed the HD Brows course with Nilam Patel to enhance her knowledge in this field, so your brows are in safe hands with Nagina! Ever wished you can wake up looking as fabulous as you did the night before? Then semipermanent make up is a trick you should consider. An expert in this area, Nagina offers a range of Nouveau Contour treatments, including eyebrow definition, eye and lip contouring and beauty marks. Having been trained by Karen Betts, a pioneer of semi-permanent make up in the UK and TV regular on shows such as ’10 Years Younger’ and ‘This Morning’, Nagina can create dazzling results, leaving you wondering why you’d ever battled with the daily make up grind day after day. The treatment involves cosmetic tattooing, using pharmaceutical grade pigments being applied to the second layer of skin. Lasting for 18-24 months, the benefits of semi-permanent cosmetics are endless – you can look fabulous morning until night, with so much more

free time in the morning! An application can make eyes look larger, lips juicy and eyebrows flawlessly shaped. The treatment is also excellent for those with patchy eyebrows or hair loss, and can take years off a face. Essential Beauty is one of the top laser clinics in Sheffield, registered with the Care Quality Commission and the first approved Ellipse salon in the area. Having successfully and safely treated clients since 2001 with laser hair removal via an Ellipse IPL system, their reputation and popularity grew, and due to the growing demand and client base they then went on to buy a second machine - the advanced Ellipse model in January 2011. This machine offers cutting edge, safe, fast and effective technology, with two different heads: one for darker skins and one for fairer, European skins. No other machine has this ability which means laser treatments can be undertaken much more safely, with the specialised parts for individual needs. Laser treatments can be used on any part of the body apart from inside the nose and ear, and a course of 6-8 treatments is generally required to achieve the desired results, meaning clients can wave goodbye to endless shaving or waxing. Essential Beauty is the largest laser clinic in South Yorkshire, offering laser hair removal, tattoo removal, thread vein reduction, acne clearance, skin rejuvenation, wrinkle reduction, pigmentation mark removal and teeth whitening, delivering outstanding results to both men and women. This treatment enables the therapists to discover exactly what care the client’s skin requires, leading to more successful treatments with better results. The consultation involves three photographs being taken of the face, revealing any damage to the skin and calculating the Skin Age Score. Discovering the true condition of your skin can be a daunting realisation, but all is not lost; your skincare specialist will recommend treatments to mend any damage. Travel Guide

India

It is difficult now to imagine that this, the oldest living civilization on Earth, was for a brief period of its history a part of that juggernaut we called the British Empire; so vibrant, so utterly unique, so completely other is India. A nation of unparalleled historical, social and geographical diversity, bearing snow-capped mountain and sun-kissed beaches, home to palaces and poverty in equal measure, India is the birthplace of four major world religions, the cradle of eastern philosophy and a beacon of spirituality.

“ journey east ” In the late 1960s, when the counter-cultural revolution was in full swing, India became a Mecca for those innumerable lost souls seeking to find themselves on a pilgrimage of selfdiscovery and even now in an age of unwavering cynicism, there are countless westerners who testify to the meditative, transcendental qualities of a journey east. The North Indian city of Rishikesh sits in the foothills of the Himalayas and welcomes hundreds of thousands of pilgrims and tourists each year; a kind of geographical detox, Rishikesh is by law a vegetarian city

and alcohol free. A magnet to those seeking enlightenment both spiritual and intellectual, the city straddles the sacred River Ganges and houses numerous temples and ashrams aching to be discovered afresh. Yoga has its origins in Rishikesh and the practise dominates tourism in the city; the renowned Parmarth Niketan Ashram, situated in the city is one of India’s most highly regarded yoga centres offering an extensive range of courses catering for all abilities. Rishikesh is a city that deserves to be explored on foot, it’s not hard to see how the region is conducive to meditative practises; cross either of the citys two suspension bridges and expect to be rewarded with stunning views of the river and for those who prefer a more active route to spirituality, the area offers first class trekking and rafting opportunities.

“ soothing, green life ” Because of its location in the shadow of the Himalayas, Rishikesh provides a cool retreat

during the hotter months, and is best visited between March and April or September to October, as to avoid the hottest months and August monsoon season. At the right time of year the landscape sings with soothing, green life. There are plenty of retreats, resorts and guest houses in and around the city catering for most every need; the majority, however, have a tendency towards the spiritual. The best of these is the hugely affordable Sanskriti, a ‘Vedic Retreat’, occupying a convenient spot in the market area, just a short walk from the central Swarg Ashram. Aside from attractive rooms, Sanskriti is home to an organic Ayurvedic cafe overlooking the river, and offers Ayurvedic and yoga packages ranging from cleansing to spiritual guidance. For those visiting India with livelier pursuits in mind, what better place to start than the nations vibrant capital, Delhi? The landscape of Delhi is as bizarre and colourful a melting pot of culture as the nation itself; the crumbling Old Delhi, once the ancient settlement of www.asianchic.co.uk

efficient New Delhi, the most striking reminder of British rule. A city steeped in rich history, Delhi has seen a myriad of empires come and go, including the Mughals who left the city with its greatest monument; the Red Fort, its walls stretching out for more than a mile. Each night a sound and light show transports tourists back to an ancient era, making for an unmissable experience.

“ a sight to behold ” In Delhi the religious diversity that defines the nation is inescapable, in Old Delhi, by the Red Fort, sits Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India. Built in 1650 the courtyard of the mosque can hold a staggering 25,000 devotees and is truly a sight to behold, and those with the stamina to climb to the top of its southern tower will be graced with a stunning view across the rooftops of Delhi. In New Delhi on the other hand, resides the much more modern but equally stunning Lotus Temple, so called because of its lotus flower design. The Temple is a Bahai house of worship, meaning all faiths are welcome to worship in the tranquil gardens; the Temple is particularly awe-inspiring when lit-up against the Delhi skyline.

Of course the capital isn’t all history and religion. Delhi offers one of the most unique shopping experiences one could hope for, famed for its bustling market places and passionate street traders. Chandi Chowk is the main street running through Old Delhi, in which cars, rickshaws, carts and animals compete for space. It’s Delhi as the films would have us believe, an assault on the senses and an all together wondrous experience. Here you can find fabrics, jewellery, electronics and the more adventurous can sample some of Delhi’s exotic street food. If you’re of the belief that shopping ought to be a wholly relaxing experience however, New Delhi is home to spas, bars and boutiques aplenty, including the world famous luxury Amatrra Spa which unites contemporary spa treatments with traditional Indian meditative techniques; an entire holiday could fly by in the four walls of the Amatrra Spa. Holiday destinations are rarely as malleable as India; from a week of luxury in Delhi’s Imperial Hotel to transcendental meditation at the foot of the Himalayas, India rewards tenfold what you put in, all that is left is to ask yourself, what do I want?

struggle to fit everything in if you’re going away with the family on holiday though, because with kids in the back you’re not going to be able to fold the rear seats down to increase boot-space. Finally, and probably most importantly, Fiat’s Bravo has the maximum five-star rating for adult occupant protection. The gruelling Euro NCAP crash test programme gave the Italian motor five stars for adult occupant safety, three stars for child protection and a further two for pedestrian protection. In fact, the Bravo recorded 33 points out of a possible 37, placing it among the leaders in its category in terms of passive, active and preventive safety. www.carwriteups.co.uk Twitter: @carwriteups

Motoring Car Review

From the outside, the five-door Fiat Bravo mates smooth, naturally aerodynamic lines with pronounced, muscular wheel arches to create an elegant and sporting design. - Fiat Bravo 1.6 MultiJet 105 Dynamic Eco -

Inside, the mid-sized Italian hatchback offers spacious accommodation and high quality build allied to a comprehensive equipment specification. What’s more, the Bravo’s cabin is very practical, with a useful storage drawer under the front passenger seat, a refrigerated compartment, door pockets, a centre console with space for bottles, documents, maps and coins, compartments on the fascia for keys and sunglasses, and a large glovebox. At the rear, a 60:40 split/folding rear bench offers seating for three, and can be folded flat to increase the Bravo’s load-space. Also, both outer rear seats include very safe ISOFIX mountings for a child seat.

central multi-function display gives access to a range of menu options in a choice of nine languages. In addition, careful consideration has gone into the placement of the gear lever, steering column mounted switchgear and all other centre console based functions, to ensure optimum ease of access with minimal driver distraction. The combination of a height- adaptable driver’s seat with lumbar support, and a rake and reach adjustable steering wheel, gives you a flexible driving position as well as good all-round visibility. The seats are also exceptionally comfortable; this is because they are packed with foam that adapts to the shape of your body.

On the road, the Bravo is nippy around town and, because of its comfy seats and relatively powerful engine, long distance driving is a doddle. The 1.6 MultiJet diesel engine, fitted

to the model on test here, develops 105 bhp and comes with a manual six-speed gearbox which helps reduce noise at motorway speeds and facilitates reduced fuel consumption. In addition, the special eco-package, which was fitted to my test car, uses special measures to optimise aerodynamics. It incorporates low rolling resistance tyres and ‘taller’ gear ratios, and returns outstanding fuel consumption and CO2 figures: 62.8 mpg in the combined cycle (an increase of five mpg on the standard 105 bhp 1.6 MultiJet) and CO2 emissions of just 119 g/km. That’s pretty cheap motoring for both private and company car drivers.

“ five-star rating ” Loading up the car is pretty easy, thanks to a deep well-shaped boot. It’s not massive, but it’ll probably take a small folded pram and it’ll definitely gobble up the weekly shop. You may
