what’s on Meat Loaf: The Farewell Tour Motorpoint Arena

Rustless : The Harry Brearly Story Kelham Island Museum

Meatloaf is, hands down, one of the biggest acts in pop history, and has both written and performed some of rock’s biggest anthems, as well as proving to be the creative force behind some of the biggest tunes from other superstars. The man’s had an illustrious career, and as such has decided that enough is enough; it’s time to bow out gracefully.

As many of us know, until recent times, Sheffield was one of the biggest Steel producers throughout the land, it pretty much supported our economy. Due to cultural shifts, this is no longer the case; however steel is still intertwined with the history of our city. Now you can learn more with a new exhibition.

Friday 19th April, Tickets £45 - £55

We lucky Steel City citizens will get to experience the magic one last time however, as the man is bringing his farewell tour to the Motorpoint Arena this April! Billed as his ‘Last at Bat Farewell Tour’, it promises to feature all his old classics. If you feel like getting in the spirit and singing along to such classics as ‘Bat Out of Hell’ and ‘Paradise at the Dashboard Light’, as well as signature hit, ‘I’d Do Anything For Love’, then the Motorpoint Arena is the place you need to be to once again experience the magic that is Meatloaf. To find out more information or book tickets visit www.motorpointarenasheffield.co.uk

Monday 1st April – Sunday 17th November

Rustless: The Harry Brearly Story is an exhibition coming to the Kelham Island Museum at the beginning of April that celebrates 100 years of Sheffield Stainless Steel production. Get the chance to find out about the life of Harry Brearly, the man who made this fantastic discovery, and follow his journey in making Stainless Steel a staple on the world stage. If you’re interested in the heart of our history, this cannot be missed! To find out more visit www.simt.co.uk

9 to 5 The Musical The Lyceum Theatre

Monday 22nd April – Saturday 27th April

Il Divo and Katherine Jenkins Motorpoint Arena Friday 12th April, Tickets £35 - £85

As the centre of culture that it is, Sheffield tends to cater mostly to the chart crowd when it comes to music, however, this month organisers at the Sheffield Motorpoint Arena have decided to branch out into the riveting world of classical music. Two of the country’s biggest classical music acts are coming to the Arena, and as they both are on more the commercial end of the scale, it’ll be something we can all enjoy. On Friday 12th April, Il Divo and Katherine Jenkins, billed as the world’s foremost classical crossover quartet & mezzo soprano by organisers, will be performing together for the very first time on their co-headline European tour. The night promises to be one of sophisticated culture and amazing vocal feats. If you appreciate classical music, this is most definitely for you. Working 9 to 5, what a way to make a livin’; Barely gettin by, it’s all takin’ and no givin’”. These words, straight from the mouth of country music legend, Dolly Parton, have never been truer in the urban era of the 21st Century. Miss Parton has proved a font of wry wisdom and glossy truth over the course of her career, bringing well-loved country–pop classics to her devoted fans. Parton’s now gone one further and brought her own musical, aptly titled ‘9 to 5’, to Sheffield this month! Billed as a hilarious new musical comedy, 9 to 5 is based on the hit movie, where three female employees turn the tables on their sexist boss. The production features 18 tracks from Parton’s Oscar, Tony and Grammy nominated score, Backwoods Barbie, Shine like the Sun, as well as an exclusive new song written by Parton especially for the UK premiere, as well as the original title song, 9 to 5. This one’s a no brainer, Sheffield!

A QUICK WORD WITH Corbeau f /corbeausound For those who haven’t heard of you guys yet can you describe the type of music you play on your sets?

Basically our sets are a mish mash of house and garage cuts old and new. We play music we enjoy listening to in a club so expect high energy stuff, music that will make you move! Head over to soundcloud.com/corbeausound to hear our most recent couple of mixes.

You are playing alongside Boddika at Hope Works in April, is he the biggest guy you’ve played alongside?

Well we have been lucky enough to play alongside some big names and he is definitely up there so we are really looking forward to this event. Hope Works is always a great gig for us.

So you guys reached Number 9 on the Traxsource Deep House Charthow does it feel to go in so high in the charts straight away.?

Yeah, we are really pleased with how well Red City did. Our main target was to get into the top 100 so when we made it into the top 10 we were chuffed. It’s nice to get a bit of recognition off the back of a release especially after the hard work we put into it. The EP as a whole was really well received so hopefully it has given us a good platform for the rest of 2013. Chic Lifestyle Magazine | Issue 50

Interview | Tom Knight

Kicking Ass

TOM KNIGHT Having left his career in property just two years ago to focus on his love of acting, it’s incredible what actor Tom Knight has achieved in so little time. Having featured in 15 films in the space of two years, Tom has taken on many lead roles and 2013 sees the release of six of his new films. Trained in Method Acting, Tom completely takes on the role he is given, living and breathing each individual character to give an amazing performance, switching from Russian supervillain to all American hero. With an action packed year ahead of him, we grabbed a few minutes with Tom to chat about his whirlwind acting career and what 2013 has in store for him. How did you first get into the world of acting?

I spent what seems like a long time in business basically, outside of acting. At 33, I went to the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, which is where Marlon Brando, Marilyn Monroe and Al Pacino studied acting and I did a course there, in New York. At that point I realised that I was in love with acting and I had to go into it. Luckily I learned an American style of acting which is Method Acting. You actually mentally, emotionally and physically become the character so that’s what I did; trained on that then I came back to the UK. That was two and a half years ago, and since then I’ve just been building up my acting career and it’s been going well.

After a career in real estate you decided to completely change your life and career to acting; what inspired the big change and how hard was it to make the transition?

Yeah, I was in property for several years but it was just not as mentally and emotionally rewarding as doing something creative so I changed over. It was very challenging, as property provides a lifestyle which acting as a new actor doesn’t (laughs), so it was really hard for me and my family at first, but as things are starting to pick up now it’s better.

Can you tell us more about the acting training you’ve undertaken?

Memory to create a three dimensional character on screen or on stage. So, for example, if I want to get angry with you, Kate, right now and we are doing a scene, if I just get angry with you, the eye and the camera can pick it up as seeming hollow. So actually what I would do is, I would think about something that really makes me angry - John down the street who didn’t do what he said he was going to do or whatever - and I would get angry with John whilst I’m looking at you so I would overlay John onto you. John’s really sitting in front of me and I’m getting angry with John, and what happens there is that the camera really picks up the real emotion and that’s when you see great performances. That’s method acting in a nutshell; there’s a lot more to it than that and it’ll take 10, 15 years to train to become the top, top, top actors with great, great naturalism, but for me, that’s really it in a nutshell.

Can you tell us about the types of films you do and the types of roles you take on?

I’ve been lucky actually, because I’ve been getting cool roles all along. I’ve done, I think, 15 films now and you can see my resume, my most recent films on IMDb. If you go to imdb.com, that will give you a breakdown of the films that I’ve got coming out this year - if you put in, ‘Tom Benedict Knight’, that will bring up all the films that I’ve got coming out in 2013 – six, to be exact. I usually either get cast as an anti-hero, which is a good guy who’s got some issues, or I get cast as a bad guy, so I‘ve got a mix of both types of character. I’m quite good at accents – I have my ’31 Accents In One Take’ on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=bMbhoWrfQYc). This has helped me get roles; I’ve played Russians, Americans, Italians, Scots, Irish, so I’ve been lucky - I’ve been playing everything from undercover cops, bank robbers and Russian supervillains, to American street criminals and all American heroes, so I’ve had a really good mix of roles which have been amazing for me to get my teeth into.

You’ve done 14, 15 films in the space of two years, which is amazing. How did you get those roles? How did you first get into it? Yes I went ballistic, I hit things hard so I’ve done a lot. Well first of all I took anything really that was interesting and it was through social media, and networking websites and things like that. Then in the last year and a half, I started to get roles based on networking in the industry more prominently, because I got my first major lead role in a film called, ‘A Confident Man’, a couple of years ago. It was released in Europe, it still hasn’t been released in the UK yet, and having a lead role in that film got my name out there being a lead actor. Off the back of that I’ve got other auditions and roles, and once you get one lead role you tend to get others and the credits start getting better. It’s been through networking and also through having a good agent who’s been brilliant as well, and just got me some really good auditions. As the industry slang goes, I’ve gone in and nailed the auditions.

What’s coming up for you in 2013?

Well, I’ve got six films out this year in the cinemas and on DVDs so this year for me is a big year: ‘Tell No Tales’, ‘Kick Ass 2’, ‘Underbelly’, ‘Breaking Down’, ‘Brash Young Turks’ and White Collar Hooligan 2: England Away’. All the stuff that I did last year and this year is coming out now. I’ve got films in Cannes Film Festival, I’ve got a nice role in a summer blockbuster with ‘Kick Ass 2’ and I’ve got all these amazing independent films coming out that should do very well, so it’s amazing what’s happening! I just did a film playing an SAS soldier called ‘He Who Dares’ with the lead role in this film saving the prime minister’s daughter which was really good fun, it’s an action movie that’s big on fight action, machine gun battles and multiple fight scenes, it was huge fun to shoot! (www.heyuguys.co.uk/he-who-dares-poster) That’s the stuff that I’ve done, and then for the remainder of the year I’ve got another four or five projects that I’m looking like I’m going to take on, which again are dramas, thrillers or action movies. I tend to kind of get those roles as either the leading good guy or the leading bad guy basically! For the full interview visit our website at www.chiclifestylemagazine.co.uk

Monochrome Monochrome is one of the main trends this spring/summer. Giving us a glimpse back to the 1960s but still looking recent, following the futuristic ethos and with clean lines and geometric prints. Black and white is key with rich block colours but still keeping within the monochrome theme. The textures are also essential collaborating a mixture of fabrics such as knit and sheer. Boxed jackets teamed with simple block skirts giving the look a casual feel with a 1960s feminine silhouette. Accessories are also crucial with oversize structured necklaces and simple shaped earrings bring the overall trend together.

They take great care when blending their tea and even measure out the ingredients by hand, producing superior teas which work miracles! Here are six of their best.

At My Wits End The first tea we’ve featured is At Wits End, a simple blend of Chamomile and Peppermint. This is a really simple remedy, which echoes the true nature of Herbalism; the word ‘simple’ originally being used to describe all herbal remedies. It is great as a nerve tonic to soothe and relax after a stressful event or at the end of a hard day, but the two components are both renowned for their usefulness in treating digestive ailments, so it’s also good for those individuals who suffer from digestive problems. The two individual herbs are great ‘cure alls’, and in this blend they really are amazing.

immune system and relieve coughs and cold symptoms. Though not overpowering in flavour, the tea is perfect when you’re feeling a bit under the weather to fight off illness before it starts; a very popular choice so far this year.

Memory Enhancer The fourth selection is the Memory Enhancer, which uses a blend of Gingko, Ginseng and Peppermint to sharpen the mind. The main flavour to come through in this tea is peppermint, but the added extras of gingko and ginseng are what makes it do its stuff. All of the ingredients in this tea enhance brain function and memory; you’ll be amazed at your clarity of thought if you drink this tea regularly.

Mellow Yellow

Lavender Tea The fifth tea is the simple Lavender tea, which blends Lavender, Assam and Darjeeling. The aroma of this tea is the first thing that hits you, so for fans of lavender, this is the perfect brew. The rich, strong flavours of the assam and darjeeling serve to enhance the essence of this tea, which is perfect for an afternoon brew, being caffeinated yet calming for later in the day.

Spicy System Booster

Cleansing Tea The last tea we have to offer is the Cleansing Tea, which uses a blend of Peppermint, Dandelion Root, Allspice, Ginger, Liquorice and Cayenne Pepper to do wondrous things. Another spicy option combined with the cooling hit of Peppermint, this tea is great for the digestive system and as a full body detox. It can help you feel invigorated with more energy, as well as improving the digestive system and acting as a nerve tonic, while its antibiotic and antiseptic properties help cleanse from the inside out.

Memory Enhancer

Mellow Yellow The second is the soothing Mellow Yellow, which is comprised of a blend of Chamomile, Marigold and Lemon Balm. With a recognisable chamomile flavour, the delicate taste of marigold and hints of citrus from the Lemon Balm, this is a tea to soothe the nerves and help you get a good night’s sleep after a hard day on the grind.

Lavender

Spicy System Booster The third kicks it up a notch with the Spicy System Booster, which sees a blend of Echinacea, Aniseed, Cinnamon and Ginger take your senses by storm. A warming flavour and spicy aroma help boost the

A ChicWedding Bells are ringing, gowns are glittering and love is in the air – wedding season is soon to be upon us. Everyone loves a good wedding, so we’ve created a rose adorned wedding focus, helping you blushing brides and grooms to be plan the most perfect nuptials possible.

Sheffield has a vibrant wedding industry, with experts and professionals falling all over themselves to provide you with a gorgeous big day to remember forever. We’ve compiled a selection of some of the best, plus the ultimate guide to every aspect of wedding planning, to give you a little push down the aisle and help your special moments go without a hitch whatever your style, be it traditional white wedding or quirky civil partnership.

Venue If you don’t have a place to hold your wedding, there is no wedding. Therefore it has to be perfect; it has to be the place where you can make life long memories. This should be the first thing you book; all further planning, such as decoration, needs to be chosen to fit the atmosphere and theme of your venue. Consider how many guests will be attending – will they all fit? Would you prefer to have rooms available at the venue? Once the date is decided and the venue is booked, you can ask guests to save the date to ensure all your favourite people are there to see your steps down the aisle.

Dress

For the bride, the dress is probably one of the most important parts of a wedding. All eyes will be on the bride on her big day, which is the perfect excuse to look as drop dead gorgeous as you possibly can. There’s hundreds of different styles to choose from, ranging from Big Fat Gypsy Wedding-esque, jewel adorned ballgowns to classy and understated silk slips. What you have in your mind, however, might not be the most flattering for your body shape, so pop into a bridal shop to try some on. Don’t panic if you don’t step straight into the perfect dress; it’s waiting for you somewhere and once you find it, you’ll know. For a bridesmaid, the terror of being forced into a hideous dress can be a nightmare. Go easy on them – after all, if they look uncomfortable in an ill-fitting mess of ruffles, it will be remembered on your wedding photos forever!

Flowers Once your theme and colours have been decided, then comes the flowers. Take a peek into a florist with some flourish – they can recommend which flowers will look fabulous and create stunning bouquets. Remember the bride and all the bridesmaids need corresponding bouquets, as do the men’s buttonholes, plus the table arrangements need thinking about. Whether you choose to stay simple with cream and muted shades, or add some pizazz with bright colours, the choice is yours – but remember a well-designed arrangement is worth paying for.

Photography

Cakes

As one of the most important days of your life, forever memories are a must. After all that precision beautification, why wouldn’t you want to show it off on your mantelpiece?! Relying on guests to take awesome photos however, is a very risky business. A wedding photographer will be able to make any couple look fabulous in their photos, capturing special moments to treasure forever. Everyone has a different style, be it vintage or wacky, so check our their portfolios and even go for a test shoot before the big day – you only get one day to capture lifelong memories so make it worth it!

As the star of the show at the reception, the cake needs to be something special, giving guests that wow factor as you cut the very first slice as a married couple. Two layers of sponge and jam just won’t cut it, so some nifty icing tricks and a spectacular topping will add some impact. Don’t forget your cake can also fit into your theme – a bright blue baked beauty will look completely out of place in a monochrome wedding. Traditional wedding cakes aren’t the only option, however. Take a look at cupcake mountains or even ditch the cake in favour for individual cakes and sweet treats dotted around – enough for every guest to enjoy.

Without vows, there wouldn’t be a marriage, so decide where you want to utter the ‘I dos’ – in a church or at the reception venue? Many wedding venues have a marriage license but bear in mind that the registrar needs to be booked, as does the church if you decide to hold it there.

Extras Of course we’ve not covered everything and there are a million special little extras which can make all the difference to a wedding. Favours, music, rings, invitations, accessories, place settings – the list is endless. Hiring a professional wedding planner might sound extravagant but they know exactly what needs to be done, ensuring your wedding preparation and execution go ahead without a glitch. Many of these little bits and pieces can be created on a tight budget, with a little bit of creativity. Pick up a pair of scissors and make your own place name settings, or take the time to tie a few bows on your bags of dolly mixture for a cute favour without the pricetag.

music Peace In Love The Birmingham four-piece have been whirring around the hype machine for a while now. After last year’s ‘Follow Baby’ single and the Delicious EP, they have been flooded with praise from NME and have definitely become one of the main indie representatives of 2013. The album will be released on March 25 through Columbia Records, and the band worked with producer Jim Abiss, who has worked with major artists including Arctic Monkeys, Florence + The Machine and Adele. It is a psychedelic, feel-good album, filled with twisted love songs and infectious beats. The irresistible riff of ‘Higher than the Sun’, kicks things off. It slowly builds up before exploding into a full-on indie dream. Next up is the re-mastered version of ‘Follow Baby’. Frontman, Harry Koisser, sings, ‘We’re gonna live forever baby’. Not the most original lyrics perhaps, but you can’t hold it against them for being musically educated. ‘Lovesick’ is short and sweet. It is a catchy number which sounds heavily influenced by The Cure. The stand out track on the album is unquestionably ‘Wraith’, having all the right ingredients to be the next indie anthem, making you bust out with involuntary dance moves and I guarantee that you will be singing along after a few plays. ‘California Daze’, meanwhile, is a softer love song which has hints of The Beach Boys to it. The frontman questions, ‘Were you born to live or born to die?’ - more thoughtful and profound than other tracks. It is a triumphant and ambitious debut from the Brummie quartet and they are sure to be a hit at festivals this year, already drawing in huge live crowds.

Dinosaur Pile Up Nature Nurture Two years after the release of their critically acclaimed debut, ‘Growing Pains’, the Nirvana-meetsWeezer alternative rockers return, with a more mature and intricate sound than ever before. ‘Nature Nurture’, due for release on May 13, is written and recorded entirely by the band’s frontman Matt Bigland, who decamped to Courtyard Studios in Oxfordshire with Ian Davenport (Band Of Skulls) over six weeks last November to record the album. Opening track and first single, ‘Arizona Waiting’, demands your full attention with its raucous guitars and soaring lyrics. It is a great choice as an introduction to the new material. ‘Derail’ is reminiscent of Biffy Clyro. The driving drums and guitars meet and clash delectably with the laid-back vocals from the frontman.

The band shows a more diverse sound, progressing on from their debut efforts, seeming to be delving into Americana rather than the previous grungerevival direction. Saying that, the riff for ‘Heather’ sounds uncannily like Nirvana’s ‘Stay Away’. ‘White T Shirt and Jeans’ is not the band’s finest moment, with the constant repetition of the song title throughout lacking direction and is frankly, quite grating. However, they redeem themselves with two catchyas-hell songs to end the album: ‘Lip Hook Kiss’ and ‘Nature Nurture’. The former track has been released as a teaser, available to download online for free. The album is fast paced and hard hitting, worthy a listen from anyone who enjoys loud guitar music.

Fossil Collective Tell Where I Lie This Leeds-based indie folk duo, made up of Dave Fendick and Jonny Hooker, has already been making waves. The first single from the debut album ‘Let It Go’ was the US iTunes ‘Single of the Week’, and they have got a number of festival slots lined up for this year, as well as a headline tour.

Daft Punks Long Awaited Album The lengendary duo that is Daft Punks have recently registered an intruiging 13 tracks in their name with Sony, giving us a small insight in to the length of the new album. Unfortunately though, that’s the only teaser we have to grasp hold of. No solid track listings, but this is the first piece of actual information that has been revealed about the new album by a mysterious Twitter source, with many people speculating that the album will be released in May before any mention of a tour this year.

Fossil Collective are England’s equivalent to Fleet Foxes, making glorious melodic music that you can’t help but sway your head along to. Rather than releasing a hurried and poorly produced album, the pair spent two years performing shows and perfecting their sound, until they could produce what has turned out to be a handcrafted and poignant album that they can be proud of. Latest single, ‘Boy with the Blackbird Kite’, is heartbreakingly beautiful. They will have you hook, line and sinker after the first listen. They have the same sort of relaxing vibe to them as the likes of Bon Iver or Grizzly Bear, but they are no mere imitation. The multi-instrumentalists draw you in with their brooding lyrics and rich harmonies, particularly on tracks such as ‘Wolves’ (set to be the next single)

and ‘Brother’. ‘On and On’ is the most upbeat track on the album, released on EP back in October, and the video for the track instantly went viral. If you want to see what the courtship between a wolf and a stag looks like, then take a look for yourself. The album is due out for release April 8 on Dirty Hit Records.

Lawson O2 Academy Sheffield 27/02/13 Interview

PEACE Peace are a new band that you might not have heard of but I’m here to tell you that they’re quite good. Their debut album ‘In Love’ is being prepped for release and as they’ll be in Sheffield in April, I thought it might be a good time to grab a quick interview with their drummer, Dom. Peace have a sound which you could say is a bit 90s in feel. That’s not a bad thing, and I’m not going to make life easy for you by saying they sound like some bands that you’ve heard of because that’s a patronising approach, and an approach Dom and I agree helps no one. So Dom, boring stuff first - how are you and how would you tell our readers you sound? We get the 90s thing quite a bit, but, to be honest, we’re too young to have grown up listening to Nirvana and the like; we’re more interested in bands like the Who. I’d say your sound is very open; it’s inviting and easy to get into. Yeah, I’m glad you say that because we don’t try and sound like anyone in particular. Our sound is more confused than anything cynical. Are people telling you you’re the next big thing and blowing smoke up your arse? Some do, but bring it on! I want more smoke up my arse! I’m not sure I can satisfy you there. I see getting into a new band as like starting a relationship. You’re not going to break my heart are you? I’ll never cheat on you, Chic. Glad to hear it. If I took your album to the pub, what would we talk about? I don’t know, all our songs come naturally and we never plan anything, so it would just play out. Is that a recipe for success? Hopefully. As you say, we’re open to anyone! We get a lot of young kids at our gigs but if their parents bring them they leave as fans too. The world would be a better place if more kids started listening to us; maybe we need to start a political party? People just need to listen and they’ll see that Peace is a good thing. I agree and hopefully Sheffield will come out to see you in April. I hope so. Peace play the Leadmill on the 19th of April

Before tonight I had never heard of Lawson, but then I’m not meant to have; I’m too old and you’re too old. Everyone with a GCSE is too old. On the stroke of midnight break into the Meadowhall branch of Next, arrange several crow feathers in a circle and chant “I love Danny from The Script” over and over again until the models on the wall come alive and aim their tortured auto tuned screams into your phone. This is Lawson. Tonight the lovely O2 Academy looks like a working mans club for teenage runaways, a forest of gold leggings and Lynx mist. Saplings everywhere, running around with Lawson tshirts all pumped up and painted. The place is packed with young girls running nowhere and holding hands as a static bunch of mums sit behind the bar, waiting for the whole damn thing to be over. A roadie sneaks on stage and is met with an instant scream as we all think he’s Lawson. He isn’t Lawson and he had a sad face. I’m not sure if any of the girls knew why they were screaming. Finally, in a wash of blue light Lawson run on stage in that stage school tip toe-y kind of way that winds me. “Whoa oh oh oh”, singer Lawson croons, a phrase we’ll hear a lot of over the set. The drums power forward like a metronomic firing squad taking orders against a shit clock as the guitars tune into Radio 2. Oh but they are handsome. The chorus is sung back at the band loudly. “Babe, now you’re like the rest of them, Never be the same again, Not able to return”… I think singer Lawson is admitting to a murder, but he’s so dreamy the girls all probably want to be murdered by him. After the song all of the Lawsons keep shouting “Sheffield!” really loudly as if they can’t quite believe they’ve made it into South Yorkshire; but made it they have. The girls are going crazy, tearing at each other, filming every conceivable angle. There’s blood everywhere. They move on swiftly to their HIT single, “Taking over me”, which deviates from the “Whoah oh oh” trick slightly by going “Ooowuhooawoo” at the beginning. It’s about sex I think, which is a hot topic for teenagers. The song sounds pretty much like the first one really and as the night passes each song just gets slightly more forgettable and earnest and I swear I hear a line about, “Laughing till we cried”, which shows you how empty the collective Lawson head is. If I had kids I would thrash them for listening to Lawson. There’s no imagination and no danger or rebellion. Nothing to remember. I spot the parents sat at the back singing along and therein lies the rub. Your parents are meant to hate your music, not sing along, and any music which brings families together is evil in my book.

film May is the start of our favourite season; the Summer Blockbuster Season. This month sees one rom-com, one slapstick series, one thriller and one classic novel adaptation. If that’s not enough of a teaser to get you running out to the cinema straight away or texting Orange this Wednesday, then maybe our previews can whet your appetite.

Mad Max image emerges

A picture of Tom Hardy as the infamous Mad Max character has emerged online, the image was a signed gift to a cast member from Tom. The image was originally unconfirmed by Warner Bros but recently they have confirmed the image to be a genuine shot from the movie. It is also been mentioned that Mel Gibson may make a small cameo roll in the film.

Inside Scoop Jason Statham in Fast 7

Jason Statham will be in Fast 7, and we have an inside scoop into the last scenes of Fast 6.

The Hangover Part III Release Date: 24th May 2013 You, like many others, may have had enough of the booze-filled slapstick comedic stylings of ‘The Hangover’ series. Who would blame you? But, regardless of whether you like it or not, the crew are back for one more party, and this time it’s going to be epic. (I’m almost entirely sure that their promo strapline will go a little something like that anyway!) With Part II just about surviving amidst the critics’

heckles and becoming a box office success, there was no way the creators of this money-making franchise were going to leave it at that. Much mystery surrounds the specific plot of Part III, but the whole cast (Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms) will be returning for a mayhem party. Don’t panic, though, this will not last forever. Director Todd Phillips has promised (and we are going to hold him to it) that this will be the last in the series!

The Big Wedding Release Date: 5th May 2013

The Great Gatsby Release Date: 17th May 2013

The Dark Tower Release Date: 17th May 2013

Looking for a light-hearted film with a cast of the finest US actors? Look no further. ‘The Big Wedding’ sees divorced couple, played by Hollywood royalty, Diane Keaton and Robert Di Nero, fake blissful married life for the sake of attending their adoptive son’s (Ben Barnes) wedding. Think romantic comedy meets a train wreck of a family get together and you won’t be too far off.

Whether you’ve read the novel a hundred times and recited the lines in your sleep, or never even heard of it, this $125 million version of the classic book is sure add a little culture to your life. For those of you who are Gatsby virgins, the novel was written by F.

Based on the writings of the Godfather of horror, Steven King, this is a film which will send shivers running down your spine faster than Jessica Ennis at the Olympics. Set in a somewhat medieval world where all but one member of the Knightly Order have been wiped out, this thrilling tale follows the final member, Roland Deschain (Javier Bardem), on his quest to find the Dark Tower.

“After Statham throw his brother’s dog tags in to the burning car, he pulls out his cell and makes a call, calling Dom. Very briefly, as Han’s car explodes in the background, much as it did in Tokyo Drift, Statham’s Shaw warns Dom that he doesn’t know him, but he’s about to. As he walks into the gathering crowd unnoticed, Fast & Furious 6 ends, and we’re right on the doorstep to where Fast & Furious 7 will take off.”

With roles filled by the gorgeous Katherine Heigl and ‘Mean Girls’ dummy Amanda Seyfried, this star-studded cinematic pleasure is not to be missed. The film is written and directed by the eclectic writer of ‘The Bucket List’, Justin Zackham, and is sure to be a barrel (or even a bucket - see what I did there?) of laughs.

COMEDIC GENIUS

Scott Fitzgerald in 1925 and sees 30 year old Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) move to Long Island, where he moves in next door to the ridiculously wealthy Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio). Here, family misunderstandings and troubles begin, and an air of mystery settles firmly at the centre of the novel. You will have to see it to understand. With Baz Luhrmann (of ‘Romeo + Juliet’ and ‘The Moulin Rouge’ fame) directing the big budget piece we can expect dashes of glamour, epic soundtracks and breath-taking sets.

Directed by Ron Howard (of ‘Apollo 13’ and ‘The Da Vinci Code’ to name just a couple), this film has already been touted as one of the biggest films of the year. So whether you’re a Lord of the Rings fanatic or simply love yourself a quick thrill, this one is unmissable.

Mirage Cigarettes 0845 475 0148 www.miragecigarettes.co.uk The electronic cigarette industry has generated up to $250 million in the USA alone, and one of the leading companies of the industry in the UK is Mirage Cigarettes, based in Sheffield. Mirage Cigarettes is a brand of electronic cigarette (also coined as “e-cigs”) which are a safer cigarette alternative. The e-cigarette contains nicotine, but is instead inhaled through a water vapour which is powered by an internal battery. According to testimonials by electronic cigarette buyers, these cigarettes have helped them smoke a healthier alternative. “My smoker’s cough has gone and I am much more sweet smelling, and I would like to think more kissable”, said one woman, with another buyer, Pauline, saying, “Thanks Mirage, you’ve saved my life”! Craig Newbold, the founder of the company, has recently opened stores at Hillsborough and Manor Top, with the first of his stores being situated in

Archer Road. He said of the business, “Over the past five years, this has really taken off. It’s been hard work but it’s great. I’ve been on so many radio shows this week talking about electric cigarettes because they are becoming really popular”. His business idea began when he read about them on the internet, resulting in him travelling all the way to China to strike up a manufacturing deal. Craig now imports the in-demand machines from the Far East and sells them to the public. He is also a founding member of ECITA, the Electronic Cigarette Industry Trade Association, which ensures the correct regulatory framework is applied to these products. Following ECITA guidlines, Mirage Cigarettes are thoroughly tested and safe to use.

In order of strengths, the kits are called Goldstar, Eros and Zeus and are all available from either of his stores or his online store, which you can visit via http://www. miragecigarettes.co.uk/shop/ .

There are now many e-cigarettes available, but many are not tested and contain untested products which could cause harm. With these, it’s a gamble as to what you’re actually inhaling into your body, but this is where Mirage is different. Having tested their products at every level at great expense, Mirage is fighting for legislation on e-cigarettes to ensure their product is completely safe. Craig says, “You

A Beer by

SIMON RIMMER On 14th-16th March, Ponds Forge was taken over by more than a pint of lagers, beers and any other beer related beast that dared to grace the froth-loving beerheads of Sheffield. Over 500 beers, kegs, casks and bottles were lined up for a taste, including celebrity chef and restaurateur, Simon Rimmer’s latest venture – Simon Rimmer Presents. A range of three beers made to go perfectly with Chicken, Curry and Steak, gone are the days when a fine red wine was the only acceptable tipple to glug with your rib eye. Having teamed up with brewery Robinsons, Simon has created the three very unique bottled beers, each brewed expressively to go with a particular dish. We grabbed a few minutes with Simon to learn more about these special brews, who told us that the journey from concept to production had been a surprisingly swift and relatively smooth one, having been initially started in November 2012. “The Curry one was pretty much there almost straight off, to be honest”, says Simon. “Because Robinsons don’t brew any lagers, I suppose you could say that was the most straightforward, because that was absolutely starting with no background at all, so it was really like, ‘Ok, how do we get this flavour?’, and I think that’s my favourite, to be honest”. Each of the three beers is differently flavoured to match their dishes perfectly, Simon tells us. “The Chicken one is a golden ale, and it’s got a slightly lemony nose on it, so it’s not lemon beer by any stretch of the imagination, but you get that little bit of citrus in there, and a lovely bit of tang at the end. So if you’ve got something like a roast chicken, you just get that little bit of sharpness at the end that really brings it to life”. The Steak version is a robust, ruby red ale, and the Curry one a fresh flavour of lemongrass and lime. Vegetarians haven’t been forgotten, but creating a beer to go with a vegetarian dish is a much trickier task. “Extending the range is kind of the next thing really, but you can never really do a vegetarian one because it doesn’t all fall in the same category”, says Simon. “Your spicy veggie is very different to a tomoatey one, to a creamy one, but it would be nice to extend the range. And whilst we’ve got Steak, Chicken and Curry, the Steak one goes with all red meats, the Chicken goes with chicken and with fish, and the Curry one goes with any spicy foods, be it Mexican, Indian, Chinese; it goes with all those sharp- intensifiers”. Each bottle also comes with one of Simon’s recipes on the peel-off label, such as Pulled Lamb Vindaloo. Simon Rimmer Presents Steak, Chicken and Curry are now available in Morrisons, online and in Simon’s restuarants. For information, visit www.simonrimmerbeers.co.uk.

OUR THOUGHTS The lager we’ve been given, courtesy of Simon Rimmer himself, is officially titled, ‘A Beer to Go with Curry’, and comes in at a respectable 5% strength. We’ll admit, before we tried it we weren’t sure what to expect. However, we sat down with our Chicken Tikka Masala (I know, we’re a bit boring) and popped open the bottle to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised by the citrusy flavour that bursts across the taste buds the minute the amber liquid hits. It makes sense, as when we read the tasting notes we discovered it brewed with hints of lime and lemongrass. Crisp and refreshing, it seems that Simon really has brewed the perfect lager to help wash down that Masala!

Platinum Privileges at Napoleons Casino Address: Napoleons Casino & Restaurant, 844 Ecclesall Road, Sheffield, S11 8TD Telephone: 0114 266 1115 Situated on Ecclesall Road, Napoleons Casino & Restaurant is a legendary institution in Sheffield, priding itself on professional service, quality and value for money. When we heard they were introducing a new Platinum card for members, we had to find out more to bring you the exclusive scoop. Entertaining Sheffield since 1975, Napoleons has built a loyal customer base, both old and new, and this year decided that as well as continuing to serve good food and fine wine in a sophisticated environment, would launch a Platinum membership to give something back to its many loyal customers. We spoke to General Manager, Ray Smith who told us: “It’s been a difficult few years for people, yet we’re pleased to have maintained a solid customer base during this time, and following our refurbishment a few years back we’ve really cemented our place in the market. We’re proud of the reputation we’ve built and there aren’t many restaurant and leisure businesses that have been around for as long as us, so we’ve decided to introduce a Platinum Card to show our thanks to our many loyal members and customers”. In honor of the establishment’s venture forwards, Napoleon’s hosted a special VIP night to promote the launch of their Platinum Card and to reward loyal Napoleons patrons on the 22nd February. The guest list was full to the brim with dedicated patrons who were treated to a complementary four course meal. The food was a hit, with the main, Fillet of Beef, proving a particular highlight, guests labeling it, “delicious”. A surprise stunner for the meal was the popcorn salad, which went down a storm. After a fantastic meal and several rounds of free bubbly, guests were given a £5 betting chip and treated to a night of gambling and entertainment. Napoleons definitely know how to reward loyalty!

Dyke said: “Football has always been a big part of my life whether playing 11-a-side on Sunday mornings or six-a-side on Thursday evenings. I was bought up in a household where my father was much more interested in whether or not you had won at football than whether you had passed your exams. In my case that was just as well. “I supported my local team Brentford as a kid where my elder brother was a junior, watched York City while at university and followed Manchester United whenever I could. “I got involved in how the game was run when I was first involved in buying sports rights as Chairman of ITV Sport in the late eighties and later at the BBC. I learnt a lot in the years when I was on the Board of Manchester United and have seen the other side of the professional game at Brentford”.

food & drink The Shakespeare Whisky Files www.shakespeares-sheffield.co.uk The Whiskey Files are back this month and this time round we’ve got some doozies! We’ve gotten our resident whiskey expert down at Shakespeare’s to wow us with their wide selection of whiskeys. We have a few surprises in store for you, which will help you reimagine the way you search out and drink whiskey. The first, to our surprise, is an English Whiskey. English Whiskey is a recent phenomenon but its slowly growing into a trend, along with other international whiskeys. We tried a bottle from the English Whiskey Company, who sell their whiskey in chapters. We tried the most common chapter, Chapter Six, which is sold for £2.80 a single. Coming in at a healthy 46% proof, it’s surprisingly pale in colour but fairly smooth, despite being a young whiskey, having only been allotted three years to mature, the minimum amount of time a whiskey can be left for to age. The second selection of the month is a single grain whiskey, which is unusual because most others are single malt. The difference is that it’s made from other grains such as corn maize and rye, the sort of grains bourbons are usually made of. Usually used to pad out single malt whiskeys in a blend, this 20 year old bottle from the North British Distillery is a product all of its own, and the 20 years it was allowed to age in a Californian Sherry cask speak for

themselves. It has a unique flavour, and the sherry of the cask carries heavy hints that burst along the tongue. Coming in at £4 a single, it’s one of the more expensive ones, but such a treat! The last is from a Japanese Distillery. It’s a Yochi Whiskey; the company dates all the way back to 1934, and is the second oldest whiskey distillery in the whiskey mad nation to one founded in 1923. Yochi is considered by experts to be the finest, if not the most well-known, of the Japanese whiskeys and the results speak for themselves. This particular whisky is finished off in Sherry cask, which lends it a gorgeous smell of butterscotch and toffee. Upon tasting the tasting the flavour we can taste spicy and nutty hints. One of the most expensive, it comes in at £4.80. If you want the opportunity to taste these for yourself, the perfect one is coming up on St Georges Day (Tuesday 23rd April) when Shakespeare’s hosts their own whisky tasting night. They will feature the English Whiskey in honour of the occasion, as well as others from lesser known whiskey producing nations. Tickets will be sold from behind the bar, available to purchase either beforehand or on the night. Pricing should be £15 for 5 drams.

www.chefsolutions.co.uk 0845 094 1157 - info@chefsolutions.co.uk When planning an event, much of the wow factor comes from the food – the venue may be adorned to the rafters with a jaw dropping theme but if only a few soggy cheese sandwiches end up on the plates then guests will go home disappointed. Moran’s 289 Abbeydale Road, Dore Sheffield, S17 3LB 0114 2350 101 www.moranssheffield.co.uk After a hard week at work, not all of us want to don our glad rags and hit the tiles. If most of us were honest with ourselves, we would prefer to go somewhere a little more relaxed, where the alcohol is at its finest and the food is superb. If this is the sort of place you’re looking for, then take a peek into Moran’s Wine Bar and Restaurant. Moran’s Wine Bar and Restaurant, situated at 289 Abbeydale Road South, oozes class and sophistication, and is the perfect place to go for a nice, chilled out night away from the revellers and party animals of the Steel City. Walking into Moran’s sees a classic mix of old and new wash over your eyes.

32

It has a fantastic selection of drinks on offer and focuses on wines and cocktails. Bottles of wine come in at the slightly pricey between £20 and £40 for champagnes and the rarer wines, however the selection is fantastic. The cocktail menu sees an amazing selection of exotic concoctions that come in round the £7 - £9 mark. We tried their classic take on the Mimosa (£8) and were blown away by the sheer brilliance of the cocktail. Chic Lifestyle Magazine | Issue 50

Morans also serve food and have a distinctively continental menu. Using only the finest, freshest ingredients, Morans cook up a variety of mouth-watering mains (usually between £15 and £30) that’ll have you begging for more. Morans is quite simply an experience in fine living that has to be taken to be believed.

Artisan 32-34 Sandygate Road, Sheffield, S10 5RY 0114 266 6096 www.artisansheffield.co.uk I’d heard many rumours about Artisan, a place considered by many to be up there with the best eateries in Sheffield, a place serving mouth-watering dishes which had even been dubbed ‘the best in the city’. A bold statement; curiosity got the better of me and a table was booked. Artisan is located in Crosspool, a little off the beaten track, yet also a hidden culinary diamond in the unassuming regions of Manchester Road. Décor is simple yet impacting, a heavily stocked bar area leading through to the main restaurant, where dark, chunky wood meets deep wine leather seats lining the walls. Stocky and rugged, the finesse comes from the food. Warmly greeted by front of house and waiting staff, we were offered a choice of table (snuggled into the corner) and presented with a duo of breads. A welcome gesture to quell the ever increasing hunger, the Rosemary, Rocksalt and Garlic Foccacia was excellently seasoned, and the Treacle and Granary Loaf had a sweet, caramel-esque hint, different and delicious, dipped into the Parmesan, Chilli, Balsamic and Olive Oil for a kick. To start, I went for the Beetroot Arancinis; as a risotto ball addict, these were an easy choice. Served with an apple and watercress salad, beetroot cubes and walnut aioli, they tasted sweet and incredibly moreish, crispy on the outside with a sweet surprise within. My partner opted for the Artisan Fishcake. Packed with fish chunks, this was definitely a world away from Captain Birdseye and a true taste of the ocean flavoured with lemon, beautifully served on a bed of leaf spinach and spiced hollandaise sauce. The mains posed a dilemma – repeat the risotto fix with the Risotto of Red Pepper and Courgettes, or stick to the Italian theme with the Hand-Rolled Pasta? Tough choice, but the pasta pipped it and I was presented with a huge dish of tagliatelle loaded with crab, tiger prawns, mussels and peas, mixed with creamy shellfish bisque and topped with parmesan. Delicately creamy yet not at all overpowering, the pasta was perfectly cooked and the seafood was excellently prepared (always a fear of mine to find grains of sand hidden within a mussel, but I was safe!). My partner’s dish, the Thyme-Roasted Chicken Breast, was served with sweet potato and feta dauphinoise, with rocket, caramelised red onions and lemon oil. A hearty dish, the chicken was moist, the potato was oozing with flavour and hunger was satisfied. A dessert can always be squeezed in and the Trio of Crème Brulee caught my eye – three little cups filled with Orange, Chocolate and Vanilla flavoured crème brulee, served with buttery shortbread biscuits. Light, smooth and fresh, the Orange variant was my favourite; the Chocolate a luscious cocoa-y indulgence and the Vanilla a creamy treat, each topped with a satisfyingly cracking, caramelised top. My partner cleansed her palate with the Sorbet – three scoops of mango, lemon and raspberry, each refreshing and packing a fruity pizazz. After a cheeky Irish coffee (served with a chocolate surprise), we could eat no more – our appetites had been well and truly satisfied. Artisan’s rustic bluntless at providing elegantly flavoured food is something unique; each dish has been chosen and prepared to perfection seemingly with the ease of natural flair, leaving me yearning to revisit and try more.

It’s about Thyme… www.thymecafe.co.uk Twitter @ThymeCafeS10 “Innovative, unfussy food cooked to the highest standard.” That’s what business partners Richard Smith and Adrian Cooling set out to do with Sheffield’s vibrant Thyme Café when it opened towards the end of 2003. Now entering its 10th year of trading, the same standards and principals are at the forefront of what Thyme does – and it’s a real evening out. Lively music and hearty, quality food combine to create a hubbub of sounds and smells – an atmosphere you can while away the hours in. There’s also a quirky garden area to the rear, which is perfect for warmer weather dining. Thyme has also just introduced a ‘kids eat free’ option, available when eating with an adult ordering a main – perfect for the school holidays. You can also take advantage of the Just in Thyme offer – just £10 gets diners a drink and a main from the daily-changing seasonal menu. Adrian Cooling said: “I think our success has come from sticking to a tried and tested formula. We’ve always operated a walk-in service so customers know they can usually get a table. “Having one simple blackboard menu that changes every day depending on seasons and market availability means we make the most of top quality produce. Diners know they’re always going to get robust, great value food in a buzzing environment.” Richard Smith said: “We can’t quite believe it’s been ten years already. It’s always tempting to try new things and make changes, but we certainly aren’t planning anything and we’ll stick to the old adage - if it ain’t broke!”

After managing Charles Worthington’s exclusive Manhattan salon in New York, Conrad Blandford arrived in Sheffield in 2004, then opened his super luxe salon on Ecclesall Road. His list of celebrity clients includes Jody Kidd, Atomic Kitten, Emma Bunton and even Jamie Oliver! Of course we wanted to be added to this list, so Chic Lifestyle’s Melanie popped down to see what the slick salon was all about, treated to a colour and re-style by Director Stylist, Alecia.

B

Alecia has been in the hairdressing industry for 14 years, having been at Conrad Blandford for six years. She has a keen eye for perfection, which shows in her bridal and avant garde work, specialising in cutting and colouring techniques. Consultation The stylists at Conrad Blandford don’t just get sniphappy with the scissors – all clients are treated to a detailed hair consultation, through which a full assessment of the client’s skin tone, face shape, eye colour, hair type and even lifestyle and personality decides the cutting and colouring choices. Alecia determined that Melanie had a cool skin tone, so the colours used on her hair would have to be on the cool side, and the cut low maintenance to suit her thick and naturally straight hair. Process Alecia first applied the colour, matching up the colour of the roots to soften the re-growth area. L’Oreal Inoa was applied as the all over colour, which repairs and strengthens the structure of the hair after continuous use. Once the colour had taken, it was washed off and Alecia decided on the cut. The overall shape of the hair was ok, yet slightly blunt and heavy, so Alecia suggested texturizing the layers for a lighter look. A sweeping fringe was added to give the style a more up to date look. Styling Keratase Elixir was applied to damp hair for the blowdry, sealing in the ends, smoothing the cuticles and giving a soft, shiny finish to the hair. A large, round brush was used to create a bouncy blowdry. Melanie’s hair was left stunningly shiny with oodles of bounce, shimmering with highlights and looking luscious.

Chic Treat We were treated to an amazing Indian Head Massage, an alternative massage therapy. A fabulous stress reliever, the massage aims to manipulate energy channels, concentrating on the shoulders, neck and scalp. Suitable for people with tension in the upper back, shoulders or neck, the treatment is also safe during pregnancy and breast feeding. At Conrad Blandford, Weleda body oils are used for an extremely nourishing experience, along with tailor-made Keratase hair treatments, leaving us completely chilled out and feeling truly pampered. An anti-ageing ritual, the facial aims to result in younger looking skin without imperfection. The ritual combines revolutionary, intensive New Fibre-Genesis Massage with personalised serum blending technology to combat unique skin concerns, encouraging epidermal renewal and self-reparation.

We started with a pure vitamin C mask, applied to the skin to help protect it as an antioxidant, and neutralising some of the damage done by free radicals from UV exposure or pollution. High concentrations of vitamin C can help to repair skin and encourage collagen growth, and the mask leaves skin looking revived and brighter for a more radiant complexion. The ritual also included a highly hydrating exfoliator, which flooded the skin with hydration. The Fibro-Genesis Massage was completely relaxing, like a workout for the facial muscles, leaving skin looking firmer, more supple and radiant. Before the treatment, my skin was dry and tired, much in need of some TLC. Immediately after the treatment, my face felt so much softer and smoother, but as Hale promised, it was a couple of days after that I really saw a difference. My skin was soft, even toned and my pores were much less visible. I was thoroughly pampered and my skin loved it!

Walking into Volt Salon is like walking into a New York establishment. It’s all beautifully exposed brick work and postmodern décor. It’s sophistication at its best, and that word, ‘sophistication’, is at the heart of the Volt experience. Volt is a salon that puts the customer first. They provide quality service on a time scale that doesn’t leave you indignant and harried. The results speak for themselves, as when a woman leaves Volt Salon, she walks out with a fabulous, innovative new look and a fresher outlook on life. This sense of innovation is what brought Volt to host its own opening event a few weeks ago, and it really was an event. Catering to over 100 people, tipples were flowing from wall to wall and the best tunes were blasted out by expert DJ Lil Ant, who is known for playing killer sets at the Velvet in Manchester. The event was a smash hit and the boho discothèque atmosphere, mixed with expertly crafted cocktails and banging tunes went down a storm, with people actually thinking it was a bar! It was the perfect opening for a salon which looks to redesign the salon experience. In that spirit, the salon hosts ‘Fizz Fridays’ at the end of every week, where you can get a nice glass of bubbly, as well as a positively delightful menu of other treats such as wine and Baileys, whilst you sit in the styling chair. As the perfect pampering experience, just sit back and let your cares wash away. In line with giving customers premium service, Volt offers a fantastic range of special deals including two-for-one Tuesdays, where you can get two a cut and styles for the price of one and 20 per cent off your first time as a Volt client. Along with those, Volt also rewards loyalty and friendship with the ‘recommend a friend’ offer. MOTORING KIA’S top-of-the-range ‘KX-4’ version of the Sportage features a higher output oil-burner, alongside the most well-appointed level of specification yet seen in the Korean company’s popular crossover model. - Kia Sportage KX-4 2.0 CRDi AWD -

The ‘KX-4’ uses an 181bhp version of Kia’s 2.0-litre CRDi turbo diesel engine, hooked up to a choice of six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions and an All-Wheel Drive system. The Sportage ‘KX-4’ builds on the specification of the ‘KX-3 Sat Nav’ by adding a Parallel Parking Assist System – complete with all-round parking sensors – a keyless smart entry system and engine stop/start button, as well as stainless steel door scuff plates. Standard equipment also includes full leather upholstery, 18-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, seven-inch touchscreen satellite navigation system and Xenon lights. Oh yes, and if you have a passion

for cranking up the volume, it has a seven-speaker stereo with external amplifier and subwoofer. The ‘KX-4’ does the 0-60mph sprint in 9.4 seconds and, when fitted with the six-speed manual transmission as my test car was, top speed is 120mph. Not blindingly quick – but not bad for a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). Unlike the other Sportage trim versions – ‘1’, ‘2’, ‘3’ and ‘3 Sat Nav’ – which are also on offer with two wheel drive, the ‘KX-4’ is only available in AllWheel Drive (AWD). The clever Kia monitors driving conditions and anticipates when AWD will be needed, ensuring you are always in the right drive mode for the right circumstances. The AWD system

normally delivers 100 per cent of engine torque to the front wheels. But this can be redistributed up to a maximum of 60:40 front-to-rear to enhance cornering stability or if road conditions deteriorate. For off-road driving, you can manually select lock mode, which gives a 50:50 torque split at speeds of up to 25mph. The ‘KX-4’ always feels secure on the black stuff and just as competent in the rough or in icy conditions. If you use the Sportage for commuting, you’ll also be pleased – motorway miles are hoovered up with ease. Some of the cabin plastics are a bit tacky, but all instruments are visible and the switchgear is rationally placed – unlike some far more costly SUVs.

Motoring | Review

The tailgate is also nice and wide for easy loading and the Sportage will seat five adults in the cabin. Additionally, the maximum towing weight (braked) is 2000 kg, so if you’re into caravanning or you move in equine circles and need to haul a horsebox, it’ll serve as a decent enough load-lugger. Lisbon

“A city that has stood for centuries, playing host to all manner of regimes from the Islamic Caliphates of the medieval era to the authoritarian regime of 20th Century Portugal.”

Lisbon, the capital city of the Iberian country of Portugal, is a city that has stood for centuries, playing host to all manner of regimes from the Islamic Caliphates of the medieval era to the authoritarian regime of 20th Century Portugal. However, the amazing thing about this city is that it has stood the test of time, has withstood everything that has been thrown at it from fires and black plague to occupations and social revolutions, and as it progresses, remains a safe haven for the tourists of Europe; the perfect place to soak in the rays of the hot Portuguese sun as you take in the passion of Portuguese-Latin culture. Flights Flights to the capital usually come fairly cheap. If you’re lucky and book in advance, you may be able to book a flight for around £70; however, if you’re booking closer to the time, then it’s more likely to set you back around £150 - £170 if you fly from Manchester directly to Lisbon. From there you can get on a shuttle bus provided by the popular Carris Bus company and hitch a ride into the heart of the city, passing by a number of hotels on the way for

Built in an old convent, it has that classic Catholic feel to it and the history hums through the bones of the building. The warm, home-made bread and garlicky moules frietes are a particular highlight.

A more modern restaurant you might want to try is Largo, on Rua Serpa Pinto in Chiado. Fat Loss – April

Body Building dietary expert Paul Jenkins is the ultimate authority when it comes to bodybuilding ad weight loss. Luckily for us at Chic Lifestyle Magazine, he’s consented to imparting some of his expert body building knowledge with us, this month he gives us his lowdown on protein and amino acid!

The word protein is derived from the Greek word ‘proteios’, meaning ‘primary’ or ‘of first importance’. DNA is made from amino acids and proteins; therefore protein is an important component of every cell in the human body. Proteins can also form enzymes, hormones, antibodies, skeletal muscle and more. Unlike carbohydrates and fats, the human body does not have a store for protein.

Introducing North West Sheffield’s Greatest Losers!

I feel much happier and healthier now I have lost weight and it has also meant that I no longer require any medication for my blood pressure, which is a great feeling!”

A whole host of super slimmers are proving to be winners at the losing game after shedding 108st 7lb* between them and winning their group Slimming World ‘Greatest Loser’, with the emphasis well and truly on Greatest! The 23 inspiring winners have gone on to lose life changing amounts of weight. Jacquie Bennett from the Crosspool group, used to be a size 28 and was suffering from high blood pressure and had to take medication. Since joining her local Slimming World group she is 6st 5.5lb lighter and has dropped to a size 16. Not only has she won the best prize of all – a fitter, healthier, happier future – she has also won the group’s Greatest Loser 2013 prize for the member who’s lost the most weight. Jacquie says, “I feel like a new woman since losing weight – in fact, I look so different that people I haven’t seen for a while say they don’t recognise me!

Protein’s most basic building block is an amino acid. Each amino acid is unique in its empirical formula and structure, therefore each different amino has its own properties, as to its functions and effects on the body. Differently shaped proteins are biologically active molecules, which are keys to receptors unlocking the door for many biological processes. Of the 21 or so amino acids in human nutrition, eight of these are classed as “essential”, since the body cannot

Local Manager Lindsay Gillott for the North West Sheffield Slimming World groups, says: “The changes we see every week in our groups are amazing. All 23 winners in our groups are a huge source of inspiration to the other members and we hope their successes will inspire other people in Sheffield who’d like to lose weight and become happier and healthier to take action. There’s a warm welcome waiting at Slimming World.” For local group information call Lindsay on 07902 217030 or visit www.slimmingworld.com for your local groups, or see the advert in the magazine. *The 108stone 7lb losses were from winners of the greatest losers of the Crookes, Crosspool, Hillsborough, Middlewood, Wadlsey Bridge, Oughtibridge, Owlerton, Stannington, Stocksbridge, High Green and Upperthorpe groups

manufacture them from other amino acids. The remaining 13 amino acids are classed as “nonessential”, as the body can manufacture these from other aminos. A protein that contains all eight essential amino acids is known as a first class protein source. A protein source that does not contain all eight essential amino acids is known as a second class protein. As bodybuilders and athletes we need to consume first class sources of protein at each meal. So there you have it - if you want muscle mass without leaning towards podgy, proteins which contain first class amino acids are the way to go. In other words, not all protein filled foods are good for you! Check back next month for more bodybuilding and diet tips from Paul Jenkins.

Dance yourself into shape with Zumba

Health and fitness does not have to be a chore, nor a bore for that matter. Many of us turn from getting into shape, due to the boring things on offer. Well, that cannot be our excuse any longer, after trying the Zumba program which re-defines exercise as being entertaining, engaging and exhilarating. The program consists of easy-to-follow, energetic, Latin inspired dance moves, that have been appreciated by people all over the world. Founder Alberto “Beto” Perez would not have believed how the accident of him forgetting his traditional aerobics music for a class and turning to his own mix of salsa and merengue music would turn to such a phenomenon. The Zumba program is now taught in gyms and studios all over the world to millions of Zumba supporters. Their goal is to spread the philosophy of health and happiness and of loving everything you do, especially your workout. If you are to be addicted to anything, it should be Zumba. Since it started in 2001, it has built a collection of 14 million people of all shapes, sizes and ages who take weekly Zumba classes in over 140,000 sites across more than 150 countries. Sheffield is one of them. There are many that cater for Asian women, by having them in enclosed veiled venues that are led by female instructors , in female only sessions. Look on the following website to find one that best suits to your needs and schedule: www.classfinder.org.uk/fitness-class/listing/zumba/sheffield

In this month’s issue I will be continuing to help you get in fighting fit shape by giving you an ideal short workout which you can perform any place and any time. The first workout is a great low impact way of becoming more active and can also be used by regular or advanced exercisers as part of a warm up routine or as an active recovery session. The difficulty of this workout can be altered by the number of reps you chose to do or by the speed in which you attempt them. The second workout is more explosive and I would only recommend attempting it if you are a regular exerciser and have performed a suitable warm up. First of all lets look at a routine that is great for beginners, it requires no equipment and very little space. So here goes…..your aim is to perform; • 25 squats • 10 lunges on each leg • 10 lateral lunges each leg • 25 star jumps • 10 push ups The aim is to repeat this circuit 3-5 times. You will find that the fitter you become the more you will be able to achieve. Stick with it and I promise you will be improving in no time. If you are looking for a more challenging alternative have a go at this….. • • • • •

soluble fibre in the lentils, helping to trap carbohydrates, which can slow digestion and absorption and support their blood sugar levels.

Lentils are some of the most nutritious and equally economical foods in the world. They are grown like peas in a pod, and come in an assortment of colours, widely popular in Eastern Europe, India and in some parts of Asian cooking.

They contain Vitamins A and C and other phytochemicals that help prevent disease. A study has found that a diet high in lentils and peas can significantly lower the risk of breast cancer because of the high levels of flavones found in them. Due to the rise in the cancer level, this is a healthy precaution to include in your diet.

Lentils

Lentils are one per cent fat and 44 per cent insoluble dietary fibre, which helps eradicate blood cholesterol by sweeping it from the body to avoid it being accumulated, leading to heart disease, high blood pressure and strokes.

10 squat jumps 20 knee drives 10 v-sit ups 10 spider man push ups 10 burpees

Once again look at completing this routine 3-5 times to give you a lovely little workout that will keep you ticking over until your next fitness fix. To see videos of how to perform these exercises and for ideas on how to make such a simple way of training even more challenging check out my Facebook page ‘Paul Morton at Bodyflo’ Paul x

They also include proteins and complex carbohydrates which contribute to suppressing the appetite along with other acts. The high level of fibre in lentils makes it easier for the body to get rid of toxins and helps with weight loss programs. This is because fibre makes people feel full, and they tend to eat less when they include lentils in the intake of their diet. Lentils have few calories so you don’t have to worry about gaining weight by overindulging. Diabetic people are advised by doctors to include lentils in their diet, due to the high amount of Chic Asian Lifestyle Magazine | Issue 13

Lahori Dhera

For people who like to mix things up cuisine-wise, El Paso serves a fusion of Mexican and Italian grub to please all tastes.

Are you in hot pursuit of some real Pakistani food? The staff at Lahori Dhera tell you not to believe everything else you hear about Pakistani fare: this is the place to be.

8 Cumberland Street, Sheffield, S1 4PT 0114 273 9523 www.elpasorestaurant.co.uk

51-53 Wicker, Sheffield, S3 8HT 0114 249 1363 Opening times 12 noon to 12 midnight

The 20 year old restaurant has recently been refurbished to give it a more contemporary feel. A fiery red building on the outside, El Paso has a homely interior of exposed brick walls adorned with images of Che Guevara and miniature harps. Diners can peer at the chefs working through the open kitchen as all of their food gets cooked with fresh ingredients on site. The restaurant’s wine collection is also rather impressive, not to mention their sangria. Downstairs provides a cosy, relaxed dining experience while upstairs plays host to larger parties and social meals, complete with crazy sombreros and generous lashings of sambuca. The food selection is vast; whether you favour Italian or Mexican, meat or veggie, starter or dessert. Try a spicy enchilada or some seafood soup; or for the indecisive, an El Paso pizza is topped with ‘a little of everything’. If you fancy just getting straight to the drinks, there’s plenty of choice there too. With main courses for under a tenner, El Paso promises a cheap and tasty eat, all in a convenient central location.

Their menu features classics such as chicken biryani and a range of karahi dishes (cooked in cast iron, round-bottomed pots). Their menu isn’t only about the spice of Asia, however, offering a range of Halal steak and grilled dishes to tempt your tastebuds with. To wash it all down, try a dairy-packed mango lassi and polish off with the sweet taste of flooda. Not simply focussed on those searching to quell that curry shaped desire of an evening, Lahori Dhera also specialise in wedding, outdoor and event catering, bringing their irresistible flavours to your special event. Delight guests with a delicately spiced range of dishes, with buffet or full table service. Lahori Dera are confident that people will love their restaurant so much that they’ll be queuing up, waiting in agony for their food and bringing their family and friends back when they tell them how great it is. Sound like a challenge? Get yourself down there !and find out.

Kebabish

www.just-eat.co.uk/restaurants-sfc-s2/menu 54-56 London Rd, Sheffield, S2 4LR 0114 276 7878 Kebabish is an ideal stop for anyone on the go. Based on London Road, it serves up traditional takeaway favourites like kebabs, burgers and wraps, all made with Halal meat. A real highlight is their pizza selection, with 30 different varieties and an option to create your own. If you’re feeling adventurous, mango pickle and tuna chunks are both on the menu. For those with a more than generous appetite, perhaps Meal Deal 4 will quell that insatiable need for something savoury - four pieces of chicken, large wedges, large lamb and chicken donner, large fries topped with salad and sauce! Finish the meal off with a cornflake tart or a flapjack with chocolate. For something a little more traditional, nothing beats a good old jam roly poly. The food at Kebabish is cheap as chips (quite literally) with pizzas costing between £3-7 and

Downtown Akbars

95-101 West Street, Sheffield, S1 4EQ 0114 275 747 www.downtownakbars.co.uk One minute after sitting down in the new Downtown Akbars, the words, ‘Best curry we’ve ever had’, come floating across the restaurant from another table. Could you get a better recommendation and promise for the meal ahead? Formally the site of Nawaab, and more recently Lahore, the prime site on the nightlife central of West Street has a history (and we can’t ignore it’s incessantly short lived) of Asian cuisine. The latest Indian eatery to take on the position is Downtown Akbars. The restaurant space is huge, with massive scope for potential; entire wall-length windows with prime view of West Street, more than enough seating and colour changing bar area. The new owners haven’t changed much of the décor but admittedly it didn’t need much; however the freshening up has created a much warmer and welcoming atmosphere. Chef Randhir Koli brings his culinary prowess to Sheffield after owning and running restaurants in Dundee for 19 years. Realising what the restaurant could be, he took Downtown Akbars on and vowed to turn it around. We started with Fish Pakora and Seekh Kebabs. I wouldn’t normally choose fish for an Indian starter but these were delicious – soft, light fish with special herbs and spices, coated in gram flour and deep fried, with incredibly light and fresh batter. The Seekh Kebabs were not as expected; instead small, individual rolls of tender chicken rolled up in naan bread. Giving a twist to the original kebab, we were already impressed. For the mains, we were presented with a feast of Lamb Balti Bhuna and Haandi Special Chicken, accompanied by Jeera Rice, Plain Naan and Chapattis. A Punjabi speciality, the chicken was prepared and cooked in a Haandi pot, with peppers and tomatoes, tasting spicy and tomatoey. My favourite however, was the lamb – cooked with spices, tomatoes, garlic and ginger, the lamb was amazingly tender and spiced with a medium kick. The naan arrived cut into triangles, laid out in a star shape, again adding a little pizazz! Although newly opened, I can already see the change in Downtown Akbars. Chef Randhir is passionate for Asian cuisine and determined to turn the space around, making the restaurant into what it should be. Adding twists to the traditional Indian and central Asian dishes, Downtown Akbars is somewhere to watch out for, and we recommend you go and try it out.

neelam creations Tel: 0161 224 6077 For six years, Manchester based Neelam Creations have wowed the bridal attire world with their creative designs and fabulous range of garments and accessories, and they’re now opening a second branch in Sheffield. Opening up in the Attercliffe area, the shop will be run by Neelam veteran Hannah Urshad, who will bring her expertise, along with the shop’s fantastic range of innovative casual, formal and bridal wear in easy access of fashion conscious Sheffielders. We had a chat with Hannah to see what lies in store for the new Sheffield branch and Neelam’s plans for the future. Can you start by letting our readers know who you are and what Neelam Creations is all about? Originally we’re based in Manchester, in which we get a good foot-flow of a wide range of customers from all over the UK, so we get people from all the way from Scotland right down to London.

How long has the store been running in Manchester for? We’ve been retailing for six years this July, and before that we’ve been wholesaling as well, so we’ve been in the trade for a long time. It’s not just one generation we’ve kept in the trade, so as we’ve moved on with the times we’ve had a lot of young spring chickens involved in the business as well!

So do you think that’s why you’ve been doing so well? To get people coming from all over the country you must be doing something right there! Well, it’s quality - because we base all our stuff on quality, we’re not commercial, we’re unbranded. What we prefer to do is give you a piece with quality in it, at the right price, then you’re going to come back to us.

How did you get started in the fashion industry and how did it grow from there? Was it through your family? Well we’re very close family friends. Neelam, who’s the owner of the actual brand itself and the retail shop, she is based in Manchester in the Manchester branch and it all started with her. We started to branch out. I worked with her since she opened the retail shop and since then we’ve progressively moved on.

Was it a joint decision coming to Sheffield? Of course, and coming from Manchester to Sheffield is a bit of a culture shock!

You’ve recently set up in Attercliffe in Sheffield; having found success in Manchester, can you explain the reason for coming to Sheffield?

want you to know the quality, we want you to know that the stitching is perfect for you, we want you to know it feels good. So that’s a good starting point, but we work with that.

To be honest, there were no hard decisions to come here, there was nothing that was pushing us straight to Sheffield. That was just the way it happened, we just drove up here (laughs)! We drove up here and we were literally on Attercliffe Road. We’d heard a little bit about Sheffield, we’d done trade with wholesale to a few shops previously so we knew what the customer base was here, and we’re getting a lot of overflow into Manchester from Sheffield customers. A lot of people are well aware of what they’re buying, consciously buying. They’re very fashion aware as well, so we want something to attract those customers.

What does the future hold for Neelam? Are you still developing the store?

Can you tell us a little bit more about the fashion ranges you carry? To be honest, we’ve started here now with a wide casual range, which is like your day to day wear, easy to wash, things that you can pick up at a very reasonable price. This goes all the way up to very exclusive pieces, and we get our collection from both India and Pakistan. There is a significant difference in styles at the moment and they’re in head to head competition with their designs. You’ll have a good spilt between people wearing a lot of the Indian fashion, which consists of very glamorous, very blingy pieces which are in your face, and that’s something that attracts a lot of customers. With the Pakistani fashion, we’ve got very pure fabrics which people are into at the moment, very long, floaty designs, so really we cover everything, and we do a very good mix of measure and order services as well.

Of course we are. We’ve not completely filled the store, we could have done it with our choice, but we don’t want to do that as we’re not here for ourselves, we’re here for the vast community in Sheffield and just outside of Sheffield. We’re here for you guys, so you need to come in and tell us exactly what you want for the occasion, price points, everything. We’ve always been very blunt and frank with our products, what you see if what you get. We’ve put a good foundation in and let’s see what people want and we will hopefully progress to that. Also. for all the young generation who are really eager to go out and spend, what we’re going to do is try to give them very exclusive pieces that you won’t find in the country.

In terms of your bridal range, if someone’s specifically coming in saying I’m getting married, where do you go from there? All we’re going to ask for is a couple of hours firstly. We don’t expect anything else of you right now. As a bride, you think they know what they want, but it’s the first time you are doing it, for most people. You’ve never done it before, you might have helped somebody but it’s not the same as having your preferences and your opinions put first. So we sit down and have a quick chat and what direction you want to go in, whilst you’re talking about what you want, what we try to do is tailor that bridal outfit to your needs, not just visually but to the shape, to the style. You’re going to be centre of attention so you need to look good. You have to be the best.

Does anyone ever come to you with a design out of a magazine? Do you ever do anything like that? We do. We’re not extremely big behind copying pieces, in the sense of just looking at an image. With an image it’s a 2D visual. What people tend to do with that is they make up half the story in their minds, but on the picture, the shape - it’s a model, they know how to present it well. As a bride we don’t just want you to look at the images, we Chic Asian Lifestyle Magazine | Issue 13

Chandni

25 Staniforth Road, Sheffield, S9 3HB Facebook: Chandni Wedding Services Chandni is an Asian Wedding planning service, who specialise in making sure your big day goes off without a hitch. They cover absolutely everything you can think of, including sourcing and booking the venue, staging, catering, servicing, staff, cakes, video and photographs, amongst loads more. The way they work means you get a full package deal with trusted suppliers, so that you know you are working with people you can rely on. Chandni say that the most important thing when planning an Asian wedding is the venue; it just has to be perfect! Unfortunately, this is the area where many people try to save cash, and it means things can go spectacularly wrong. Another area where people tend to think they can save a bit of cash is the food. Chandni have told us that this is one of the worst mistakes you can make; the catering has to be right. The next piece of advice from the experts at Chandni concerns current colour trends. It seems that Asian weddings are moving away from the bright and the garish, and in turn they are embracing more general neutral wedding colour trends. Asian weddings are going vintage! The last piece of advice they have for us concerns time scale. Last minute weddings don’t work, especially for couples who want to host them around Ramadan, when no Muslim wedding can take place. Chandni tell us that everybody picks the same date around Ramadan to have their ceremony. It proves impossible; it’s always already booked up. You need a good nine months to a year to plan a wedding. If you want yours next June or July, start thinking about it now.

A ChicWedding Your wedding is one of the most anticipated and memorable times of your life, so requires more than a little planning. From the glittering outfits to the stunning cars, the glimmering jewellery to the intricate Mehndi, the list of wedding musts can seem infinite. To ease you along the path to wedding bliss however, we’ve compiled the ultimate guide to all things wedding to make sure you don’t miss a thing. Sheffield has a vibrant wedding industry, with experts and professionals falling all over themselves to provide you with a gorgeous big day to remember forever, and we’ve found a selection of some of the best.

Gold

You never need an excuse to adorn yourself in glittering gold jewellery, but your wedding is a time to really push the boat out. A big part of your budget needs to be put aside for something so special. Many jewellers make specially made Asian wedding jewellery in gold, silver or made artificially to maximise on detail at a fraction of the cost.

Mehndi

Bridal Mehndi is beautiful, and no bride would be complete without it. Whether traditional or more modern, all designs can look stunning; the more intricate the better. Choosing the perfect Mehndi artist however is something important – perhaps try out a few to choose your favourite, or browse through their portfolios to discover what they can do and how you’d like yours to look. Many artists are now pulling away from the traditional brown henna effect, into bolder colours which can be washed off; white and silver can look fantastic for a wedding.

Wedding Stage

Choosing your colours for the ceremonies is the thing that will make the biggest impact to your guests. Indulge in inspirational wedding designs and opulent themes, and matching the colours to your outfit will provide the most perfect photo opportunity! Most stage hire companies have a huge selection of exquisite wedding furniture pieces, luxurious backdrops and stunning table centres to choose from, allowing you to select a jawdropping theme which will really add some oomph to your wedding.

Gowns

For a bride, a major part of the wedding is the outfits. Choosing a bridal outfit is something to take time with. Remember that choosing a design in a magazine is a good starting point for your own design, but bear in mind that the outfits are shown on models who know how to show the outfits off to their best advantage. Different shapes and styles suit different people, and many bridalwear boutiques will create beautiful outfits to dazzle your guests. Whether you choose to stick to the more traditional designs or try something more contemporary, the high fashion boutiques offer glittering, stunning designs, from India and Pakistan. Along with the dress comes the hair and make up. Your wedding is the time to look as stunning as you’ve ever looked; all eyes will be on you and

11

Chic Asian Lifestyle Magazine | Issue 13

this is the time to let your blushing beauty dazzle. Arrange some trials with make up artists to decide what style you’d like to go for. Leaving your make up until the big day is a very risky manoeuvre if you decide you don’t like it!

Food

One thing your guests will definitely remember is the food. A small mound of boiled rice and limp just won’t cut it though, so expert wedding caterers who will present mouth-watering dishes to the tables is a must. Ask your favourite restaurant if they also provide catering services as many do, but make sure you have a tasting before booking the caterers to ensure only the best nibbles reach your guests tastebuds. For dessert (and one to keep the children entertained), try something like a chocolate fountain to add a little something sweet to the ceremony.

Cars

From white Bentleys to Audi R8s, Range Rover Sports to Aston Martins, rolling up a set of slick wheels will definitely add some spice to your day and get tongues wagging. Many car hire companies keep a collection of extra special rides to enjoy (and show off!) for the wedding celebrations. Take a look at some hire company’s collection early to make a booking on your dream wheels.

Congratulations on your engagement.

How exciting! Now, where do you start in planning your exquisite wedding occasion? Each one of us has a vision of the perfect event and your first step in planning your wedding is just a few steps away. Amir Khan | Insight

An Insight Into

AMIR KHAN After nearly two years fighting away from England, the “King” is back. On Saturday, April 27 at Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, British superstar Amir “King” Khan returns to England to face former World Champion, Julio “The Kidd” Diaz. “April 27th is going to be a special night,” says Khan. “It’s been two years since I last fought in the United Kingdom and I can’t wait to get in the ring in front of my fans. Julio Diaz is a former World Champion and a very dangerous opponent who is coming off of an impressive performance in his last fight. I know he will be coming with guns blazing and I’m ready for whatever he has to throw at me. With my speed and boxing skills, and his power and experience, it makes for a really exciting matchup. He may have other ideas but I’m adamant that my return to the British shores is going to be a very successful one.” True fighting talk, but Diaz has some ideas of his own. “I’m not going to England for the fight to go to the scorecards. I’m fighting for the knockout,” he says. “I know the knockout is the only thing that will get me the win, so I’m training extra hard already in order to get a victory on Khan’s home turf. I’m a heavy hitter and he can’t take a punch, so to me, that is the perfect combination.”

“Return of the King”: Khan vs. Diaz is a 12 round 143 pound catch-weight bout presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Khan Promotions and sponsored by JD Sport and Maxi Muscle. “We’re excited to return to England and bring the loyal British fans the return of Amir Khan on April 27,” says Oscar De La Hoya, president of Golden Boy Promotions. “Amir is closing in on a shot at regaining his world champion status and I know he’s going to use the energy from the crowd in Sheffield to motivate him. Standing in his way will be a dangerous opponent in Julio Diaz who is on a hot streak of his own that he expects to keep intact in England.” Excitement is building and the odds are becoming a heated debate as these two determined fighters prepare to meet in the ring. “April 27 is going to be a great night for boxing in the UK and a great night for Golden Boy Promotions,” said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “Amir Khan is returning home where he is immensely popular; this is a great way to jump start an amazing run of fights that Golden Boy Promotions will be a part of in England for many years to come.” “It was well known that Amir wanted to have his next fight back home in Britain for his loyal fan base,” said Asif Vali of Khan Promotions. “It has taken a bit of time to get to this point, but we’re delighted to announce Julio Diaz as his next opponent. He upset the odds to score a draw in his last fight against a highly touted prospect in Shawn Porter and we know he will be looking to upset the odds and score a win come April 27. Both fighters have been world champions and Amir is determined to reach that summit once again. It will be a night not to miss in Sheffield as we witness ‘the return of the King’.”
