Contrast Photography, or in other words, the contrast in photography depicts the range of distinction between the complementary colors in a photograph. The darker and lighter elements of an image can be differentiated only by using contrast. High contrast makes an image intense and exciting. A low contrast creates a soothing and flat affect. Chiiz Photography Magazine is here again with a mesmerizing issue based on the “Contrast” genre. In our magazine’s “Feature” section, our readers will witness a terrific compilation of Contrast images by Guido Klumpe, who is based in Hanover, Germany. He brings the contrasts in his minimal, abstract, and street photographs. Juan P. Zapata has also been a part of this journey. He is a self-taught Colombian photographer based in New York, USA. He presents the beauty of Ballet and Dance Photography through his astounding images. In this issue, we are also featuring Juma Teddy Tavan, a freelance photographer based in Juja, Kenya. In his series, the artist showcases the beauty of contrast in his compelling and eye-catching photographs. Atul Hundoo, who is an inhabitant of Lucknow, India, is one of the featured street photographers of this issue. He clicked all the common things around us that often go unseen. We are expanding our horizons of contrast photography with Meiji Nguyen, a fashion photographer and creative director based in Perth, Western Australia. His immense influence for each of his creative visions is reflected through his photographs. In the “Old is Gold” section, we are showcasing ‘The Diligence of Living in a Blockaded City: Sniper Alley- 1992’. It portrays the horrific view of the informally named Sniper Alley during the Bosnian War. Mountains surrounded the city, where snipers took their positions, providing a safe distance to the city’s traffic. We present to you the review of a beautiful movie named “Hand Held,” directed by Don Hahn. It has been recognized worldwide twice in the Academy Awards. You will also witness the book review of ‘The Art and Business of Photography’ by Susan Carr. It will provide you a realistic view of the photography business compared to today’s modern photography market. Assuming that our readers are engaging attentively with this unique issue, we are passing this issue with our great efforts and research. So, dive deep into this issue, comprising our team’s heartful efforts, providing the best guide into the world of Contrast photography, and configuring a better understanding of the theme.

Old is Gold 48 The Diligence of Living In A Blockaded City: Sniper Alley-1992
Guido Klumpe, born in 1971 in Germany works in minimal, abstract, and street photography. In his current series “Losing one dimension, the self-educated photographer explores the fragile moment of transition, in which three-dimensional architecture dissolves into two dimensions and abstracts. To achieve this, he photographically superimposes various objects of the cityscape, such as the walls of houses, bollards, or car roofs. The photographs are not digitally manipulated. He finds his motives in completely normal residential areas, arterial roads, and industrial areas. The artist explores his own way of seeing: He is blind in one eye, the other has a visual capacity of 25%. Through photography, he approaches and crosses the boundaries of his vision. He lives in a simulated three-dimensionality. streetphotograph.de

Book Review The Art and Business of Photography by Susan Carr The Art and Business of Photography by Susan Carr provides a realistic look towards the photography business compared with today’s modern photography market. The Art and Business of Photography By Susan Carr, published by Allworth Press on 15th of February 2011, provides us with the reality in the creative field of photography, which has been in a state of massive flux in the past few years. It’s no secret that technology in photography is still changing, and it was never constant. The fees paid for our services have dropped, costs have increased, and the number of photographers has exploded; yet, we persist.” Asou would expect, the Art and Business Of Photography focus on business-like sides of photography and is direct to the point. With this book, the author also wants its readers to look at some of the most beautiful black and white photographs. For any emerging photographer, who is trying to learn the business side of things or wants to establish themselves professionally, this book provides
and makes sense of all the industry changes, which is an excellent resource. With this book, the photographers will now have an ideal resource that will help them build a solid foundation for success. Business skills, as well as the artistic skills required for the foundation of a career in photography, is what this book specifically covers and gives its readers an honest approach towards the photography profession. The book also offers its readers a balance of how to be an artist as well as a business person. Some of the most prominent topics included in this book are talking about the basics of copyright, how to find future prospects, pricing skills as well as the importance of creativity. The author wants its readers to professionally develop themselves in photography, keeping in mind all the developing and changing aspects of this industry. This book can be a perfect source of information for all the emerging photographers aiming to develop their careers and just start a few steps.

Movie Review Don Hahn’s Hand Held Hand-Held by Don Hahn is one of the most beautiful movies; after watching it, you would definitely get inspired. Mike Carroll was one of the first photographers to travel to Romania in the year 1989, which was just after the early fall of the communist regime. He was surprisingly thrown to some of the most horrific scenes of the 20th century as and when he arrived. The Boston Globe and the Times of India have also featured his incredible photographs and heart-wrenching stories revolving around the pediatric AIDS epidemic in the Romanian country. Without any doubt, news and media opened the Western world’s eyes towards the sad reality and plight of the Romanian children. The movie expresses and showcases how the 20-year-old odyssey of Mike Carrol and his colleagues fought to raise help for these children in need. Significantly raising and bringing up support in a country that they hardly knew anyone from. Without any doubt, Hand Held is one of the most prominent documentary films directed and produced by the very known, recognized, and a world-famous two time Academy Award nominee filmmaker Don Hahn. The shooting locations for this movie was in Bucharest, Boston, and Transylvania. The entire shooting duration took nearly two years. Hahn shot the story about one guy and tried showing it through an extraordinary motion picture with a camera, a band of New Englanders, and 160,000 orphans. This definitely will be an unforgettable story of how their lives were changed forever. This documentary feature film about a photojournalist Mike Carroll was filmed in the year 2010. Just after the fall of the Communist Regime of Nicolae Ceaușescu. The film also showcases how struggling Carroll’s journey was to bring up an organization called Romanian Children’s Relief (RCR) for helping the children, especially in a country where he hardly knew anyone. This movie was also premiered at WGBH in Boston. Simultaneously, it was also selected to be premiered at the Heartland Film Festival. Moreover, it was also the official selection for the Boulder International Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival, and the Rhode Island International Film Festival. Along with this, the European premiere of the Hand Held was done in late 2010 in Bucharest. The United States
‘‘The Official Cover of The Film’’
Ambassador Mark Gitenstein, who was present in the audience, introduced the director of this movie Don Hahn and the subject Mike Carroll. As a personal recommendation, this movie showcases the sad reality and the horrifying incidents of how the country went through after the fall of the first communist regime. Hand-Held is one of the few movies that has received numerous international recognitions and has premiered in more than 15 International film festivals. In today’s technologically advanced world, looking at a movie shows how a person could raise help for children in a shattered country is definitely an inspiring piece to watch for. The movie showcases and provides an eye to all its viewers about all the struggling and challenging moments the subject Mike Carroll had to face to raise help for the children in need, indeed aiming to change all of their lives forever.

Old is Gold The Diligence of Living In A Blockaded City: Sniper Alley - 1992 Along with this, the killings happened for around 225 people, out of which 60 were children. Sadly The Sniper Alley 1992 was definitely The Diligence of Living in a Blockaded City.
Sniper Alley, which is called Snajperska Aleja in Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian, is one of the informal names primarily for the streets namely Zmaja od Bosne Street in the country. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, this street was famous by the name of Dragon of Bosnia Street. The main Boulevard in Sarajevo became one of the most infamous places and emerged as a dangerous place for civilians to travel around during the Bosnian war. The main Boulevard in Sarajevo was lined up with numerous amounts of sniper posts. This infamous and dangerous road helps in connecting the Sarajevo Airport to the rest of the parts of the city that involves historical sites as well as the old town’s cultural sites. Most importantly, the Boulevard consists of a lot of high-rise buildings that are providing sniper shooters a perfect view for extending fields of fire.
Moreover, Sniper Alley was also showcased in the movie, The Peacemaker. Additionally, The Sniper Alley Street was also featured in Joe Kubert’s book Fax from Sarajevo. 1997 war film, Welcome to Sarajevo by director Michael Winterbottom also had some real footage and actual scenes of snipers troubling and harassing the residents. The movie, In the Land of Blood and Honey, also had a scene wherein people were seen crossing the same alley street. And the list does not end here. Certainly, this street in Bosnia and Herzegovina was featured in a lot of movies, books, shows, media and etc. But in case, you are wondering, how all these things actually started. This was during the Bosnian war which was an International Armed Conflict that happened from the year 1992 till 1995 in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Seeing the number of violent incidents that started happening in the early stages of the Year 1992, it was expected and commonly believed that the war started on 6th of April 1992. Eventually ending on the 14th of December 1995. Last But not least, with all those cruel acts by those snipers, Sniper Alley eventually ended up becoming The Diligence of Living in a Blockaded City for the local residents.
Sniper shooters also used all the mountains that were around in the city as their shooting positions. In addition to this, mountains also helped them to keep a safe distance by providing an excellent view of the city’s traffic and its movement. Even though the city was under such a scenario, survivors and people still had to travel around the city, thus routinely risking their lives. Even though the city was under the constant Serb Siege, people and computers were moving across the city with signs that were reading “Pazi – Snajper!” (“Watch out – Sniper!”). Such type of signboards became common across the country and especially around the locality. When local residents needed to travel across the street, they would rather run fast across the street or would wait for the armored vehicles of the United Nations to walk behind them as the protective shields. According to the data gathered in the year 1995, surprisingly and sadly, 1030 people were wounded by these snipers. Nishad Kinhikar nishad@chiiz.com
