Infrared Photography aka IR Photography has given much exposure to photographers in the contemporary era. It is one of the most significant and sort-after concepts in the photography arena. Infrared not only has enabled individuals to explore the world with a different perspective-- but takes the viewer to the world of “unseen”, beyond what bare eyes can see. Shades, surfaces and textures, leaves and plants, human skin, and any remaining traits of objects can mirror IR light in remarkable and fascinating manners. As the quantity of camera-prepared gadgets multiplies and the related advancements improve, IR photography may offer the chance for photographic artists to venture into new fields and separate their contributions from others. Chiiz Photography Magazine is here again with a bewildering volume based on the “Infrared” genre. In our magazine’s “Feature” section, our readers will witness a prodigious treasury of Infrared images by Paolo Pettigiani, based out of Turin, Italy. His works have been exhibited both in solo and group exhibitions in New York City, Paris, Milan, Turin. In this issue, we are featuring amazing photos by Mahendra Bakle who is an extremely illustrious photographer. Another photographer, Neil Cooper from South Africa is showcasing his amazing wildlife images. We are featuring a radiant picturesque illusion photographer, Mitchel Wu. You will witness the mesmerizing Illusionary of motion and emotion. You will be downright engaged in the work of some amazing photographers including Steve McCurry featuring in the Lavazza Calendar 2021- The New Humanity. In the “Old is Gold” section, we have written a well-researched article on “Philippe Halsman by Dalí Atomicus (1948). We are presenting to you the finest review of a beautiful movie named “Ansel Adams: A Documentary Film,” directed by Ric Burns. You will also witness the book review by our very talented Nivedita Basu, which will provide you a theoretical view of the photography with more words and fewer images. We are reviewing a highly recommended book “Genesis (Gênesis)” by Sebastião Salgado’’, that will inspire you the most. We are bringing you spectacular artisanship by our esteemed Makeup Artist of the Month, Perrine Pro. Well, when it comes to the ‘Nude’ genre, this time, we are showcasing an amazing lenticular photographic work by Leonardo Cóndor, focusing on the female nude and abstracts. Followed by the absolutely stunning fine-art photographs by Anna Devís and Daniel Rueda, where you will witness the grace and serenity in their featured photographs. Benoit Barre brings to you breathtaking Japanese landscapes. Today, Infrared photography is emphatically encouraging individuals to experience the universe of IR. As the quantity of camera-prepared gadgets multiplies and the related advancements improve, IR photography may offer the chance for photographic artists to venture into new fields and separate their contributions from others

LAVAZZA CALENDER 2021 Francesca Lavazza, Lavazza Group Board Member.
Steve McCurry “I certainly hope to find in her the same joy, the same curiosity, the same love, and the same respect for our fellow humans that we’ve tried to instill in her. That same humanity that we have come to call ‘new’, and that I hope will have by then become ‘old’”. 20 FEATURE
1. How did Lavazza prepare for the Calendar this time during the global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic? Ans: The COVID-19 emergency was an exceptional situation for all of us and was posing our country with major challenges. In situations such as these, it was essential to proceed with transparency, pragmatism and maximum effort to ensure the greatest possible safety for everyone. Lavazza- that was among the first companies to take action to provide concrete aid to the communities in which it operates, starting with Italy-with the New Humanity campaign wanted to speak to the heart of individuals and the new generations, spurring them on with a positive message of rebirth, a “good morning humanity”.
2. Share an insight on the vision of Lavazza Calendar 2021? Ans: The New Humanity is the concept behind the Calendar: a lens through which to look into the future and a powerful message inspiring the projects the company has recently developed: from the “Good Morning Humanity” advertising campaign, with which Lavazza speaks out in an appeal to reawaken individual sensibilities, to Beyond Walls, the land art project by artist Saype, completed last October at the Porta Palatina Park in Turin, in which two hands reach out to one other and are clasped together in a way that conveys confidence and mutual help, inviting us to make a collective effort to feel part of a single ecosystem.
3. Is the concept of The New Humanity an initiative towards greater sustainability? Ans: The New Humanity is the lens with which Lavazza looks at the world around us and the future that awaits us, and it takes shape in a new concept that transversally contaminates all the company’s activities in its different souls, in a coherent and integrated path. And the first expression of this new conceptual path was the advertising campaign “Good Morning Humanity” signed by Armando Testa and launched in May which repeats the significant words of Charlie Chaplin as a testimony to the need to find and accept each other, and to move forward together. This strong content, a strong creative approach and contemporary language have contributed to spreading the universal values of tolerance, progress and sustainability. All messages that are the basis of the brand’s vision.
4. Tell us about your experience working on the calendar this year. Unfortunately, due to the health emergency, we could not really live a behind-the-scenes experience, each of the protagonists was isolated in his or her environment to conceive their most significant artwork. Nevertheless, thanks to technology, we had asked all of them to share with us a moment, a background story to highlight how and what they have been through to create a final piece of art. Any single contribution – ‘the best of’ - was then included in a TV like show, which was featured on all Lavazza Channels globally and distributed digitally as well. Different actors of the #THENEWHUMANITY project alternated in a 21 FEATURE
spectacular and immersive setting to tell a digital story that is meant to involve, stimulate and excite the public. It is not only an entertainment product but a vehicle of strong and contemporary messages.
5. How The New Humanity integrates with all the other projects of Lavazza? Ans: #THENEWHUMANITY models and inspires all the projects developed by Lavazza, including the Lavazza 2021 Calendar, which this year becomes a 360° ARTISTIC PROJECT that brings together photographers and other artists, an avant-garde artistic and cultural movement that designs the way to the birth of a new humanity.
6. How committed is Lavazza to the social welfare and wellbeing of society? Ans: Not only through the Calendar, Lavazza has always taken its social role very seriously: a commitment that is visible all over the world thanks to the work of the Lavazza Foundation, the partnership with the United Nations in spreading the Global Objectives Agenda in Italy and around the world, the new Manifesto; a milestone that inspires Lavazza’s path in the CSR field, all this is intended in favor of awakening individual sensitivity towards progress, sustainability and responsibility.
7. Which artists collaborated with the Lavazza Calendar 2021 this time? Ans: Christy Lee Rogers, Denis Rouvre, Carolyn Drake, Steve McCurry, Charlie Davoli, Ami Vitale, Martha Cooper, David LaChapelle, Martin Schoeller, Joey L., Eugenio Recuenco, Simone Bramante and Toilet Paper are the 13 masters of photography who put their name to the 2021 Lavazza Calendar.
8. What contributions did the photographers have and what their focal motivation was for the calendar? Ans: The photographers were called on to translate their vision of the new humanity into images seen through their eyes which resulted in 13 evocative images for 13 pages, each bearing the words of the message promoted by Lavazza: This is the good morning to our rediscovered humanity.
9. Give one last message to the people out there on behalf of Lavazza. Ans: “For Lavazza, the New Humanity represents not only a new narrative direction, but also an artistic vanguard. The origins of the 2021 Lavazza Calendar are very close, because the concept was devised and decided on at a very particular time, from an emotional perspective too: the March lockdown,” said Francesca Lavazza, Lavazza Group Board Member. “Around us we wanted the people from the Lavazza universe and beyond, and together we worked to inspire suggestions, themes and ideas that can convey the sense of a new humanity”.
Christy Lee Roger
“Everyday people can be transformed into angelic creatures with the slightest change of perspective, by using tools in new ways and allowing our mistakes to guide us toward new truths”.
Denis Rouvre
“I imagined this new humanity as a return to the origins of the world. A fanciful vision in which man is one with nature”.
Carolyn Drake
“We get caught up in the systems that differentiate and divide people and places. I wanted to make a picture that gets rid of the categories for a moment and stands as a kind of monument or reminder that people, the natural world, and the human made world are intertwined”.
Charlie Davoli
“All we need is to understand the difference between being the guardians and not the owners of the Earth. To protect this world for those who will come after us”
“Nature has sent us a strong message and reminded us of just how small and deeply interconnected our world is. It is a powerful moment to reimagine our relationship to nature and to one another. We need to take care of this planet and to protect existing habitats”. Ami Vitale
“Only on us depends the future that we want to build”. Eugenio Recuenco 24 FEATURE
“Let’s try to understand one another beyond words, beyond ideas even, just by our shared humanity. And what is a better mirror of ourselves, of who we are, than our eyes? Maybe viscerally, through eye contact, we can achieve a higher understanding of one another.” Martin Schoeller
“No longer man but human being, no longer a world at the centre of the Universe, in conflict and competition with the natural environment, but humanity aware of being an important part of it”. Simone Bramante 25 FEATURE
David LaChapelle
“With authenticity, to serve the world and serve the people beautiful goods without the greed and abuse of Mother Earth and her inhabitants “.
Martha Cooper
“During the many months of sheltering at home, I photographed a steady parade of people of all ages wearing masks walking, running, rolling by and sitting on my bench. Book Review Genesis (Gênesis) by Sebastião Salgado
“Genesis is a quest for the world as it was, as it was formed, as it evolved, as it existed for millennia before modern life accelerated and began distancing us from the very essence of our being,” said Lélia Wanick Salgado, the curator of the momentous exhibition Genesis, held at The International Center of Photography (ICP), US. Salgado was a nature lover. His thirst to capture nature pushed him forward towards excellence in the field of photography. During his travels across the globe, he documented arctic and desert landscapes, tropical rainforests, marine, and other wildlife, and communities still living according to ancestral traditions. Genesis is the third long-term series on global issues by Salgado (born Brazil, 1944), following Workers (1993) and Migrations (2000). As the result of an eight-year worldwide survey, the exhibition draws together more than 200 spectacular black and white photographs of wildlife, landscapes, seascapes, and indigenous peoples— raising public awareness about the pressing issues of environment and climate change. Salgado craves to walk back to the time when nature was in its purest and crude form, undamaged, untouched by human civilization. He wants us to know the animals, plants, and indigenous tribes that represent what he calls, controversially, the most pristine parts of nature. He wants us to witness the beginning, the incarnation. The book is a plethora of beauty that depicts what mother nature holds within. It’s a stupendous enterprise, connecting the heat of the Brazilian rainforest to the icy light of Siberia, the dazzling dew of Ecuadorian dawn with the spectral gloom of dusk in the Galápagos. The photographs run into hundreds, taking you soaring high above the Patagonian prairies and plunging deep into smoking volcanoes. They show the tiniest lemur in the world and the largest whale, filling the frame, and one’s imagination, as it heaves through the ocean. Over 30 trips—traveled by foot, light aircraft, seagoing vessels, canoes, and even balloons, through extreme heat and cold and in sometimes dangerous conditions—Salgado created a collection of images showing us nature, animals, and indigenous peoples in breathtaking beauty. Mastering the monochrome with an extreme deftness to rival the virtuoso Ansel Adams, Salgado brings black-and-white photography to a new dimension; the tonal variations in his works, the contrasts of light and dark, recall the works of Old Masters such as Rembrandt and Georges de La Tour.
What does one discover in Genesis? The animal species and volcanoes of the Galápagos; penguins, sea lions, cormorants, and whales of the Antarctic and South Atlantic; Brazilian alligators and jaguars; African lions, leopards, and elephants; the isolated Zo’é tribe deep in the Amazon jungle; the Stone Age Korowai people of West Papua; nomadic Dinka cattle farmers in Sudan; Nenet nomads and their reindeer herds in the Arctic Circle; Mentawai jungle communities on islands west of Sumatra; the icebergs of the Antarctic; the volcanoes of Central Africa and the Kamchatka Peninsula; Saharan deserts; the Negro and Juruá rivers in the Amazon; the ravines of the Grand Canyon; the glaciers of Alaska and beyond. Having dedicated so much time, energy, and passion to the making of this work, Salgado likens Genesis to “my love letter to the planet.” “In Genesis, my camera allowed nature to speak to me. And it was my privilege to listen.” ~Sebastião Salgado. The book helps you build a beautiful connection with nature. It takes you out on a trip and makes you witness the beauty and the peril of nature, the ethnicity it holds and makes you crave to be a part of Salgado’s raw and real nature.

Movie Review Tierney Gearon: The Mother Project Initial release: 2006 Directors: Jack Youngelson, Peter Sutherland Music director: Justin Marchacos Cast: Tierney Gearon, Peter Sutherland Producers: Jack Youngelson, Peter Sutherland Cinematography: Jack Youngelson, Peter Sutherland
Photographer Tierney Gearon—best known for pictures of her naked children, assailed as pornography during a London show—set out to create a new cycle portraying not only her kids but her elderly, irascible, and occasionally unbalanced mother. Jack Youngelson and Peter Sutherland’s intimate documentary captures all three generations as Gearon conceives and shoots the photos. It’s fascinating for its glimpses of how her troubled upbringing colors her efforts to raise her son and daughter. The men in these families are long gone, and when Gearon becomes pregnant with her third child, the father’s name never even comes up. Yet, in this strictly feminine environment, some of the most startling observations come from Gearon’s unsentimental young son. Celebrated photographer Tierney Gearon’s work has been labeled manipulative, disturbing, and even perverse. A former model and dancer, Gearon came to notorious fame in 2001 when photos of her own naked and masked children in the “I Am a Camera” show at London’s Saatchi Gallery had authorities threatening child pornography charges. About Jack Youngelson Jack Youngelson has worked as a writer, producer, and field producer on documentary projects that have been shown by numerous broadcasters in the United States and the UK. Over the past 5 years, he has collaborated as a writer/ producer with the award-winning production company, Moxie Firecracker Films, on various documentary projects, including Ghosts of Abu Ghraib, which premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival before being broadcast on HBO, and The Nazi Officerâs Wife, which screened at various international film festivals and had a theatrical release before its television premiere on A&E. That same year, Jack also wrote and produced Connecticut: Seasons of Light about the American Impressionist art movement. The film, narrated by Brian Dennehy, won a 2003 Regional Emmy for Outstanding Cultural Affairs Program. Jack graduated in 1990 from Princeton University. About Peter Sutherland Peter Sutherland was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and raised in Colorado. The move to New York City in 1998 prompted his first feature documentary, Pedal, a film about the cityâs bike messengers that premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival in 2001 before airing on Sundance Channel. Along with numerous other television credits, Sutherland worked as a director of photography on Stoked: The Rise and Fall of Gator, a documentary about

a famous skateboarder convicted of murder. Directed by Helen Stickler, Stoked premiered at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival and was also released theatrically. Sutherland has published numerous photographic works through publishers such as powerhouse Books, Nieves, Art Beat Press, and P.A.M. books. About the Documentary The documentary follows Tierney over three years as she assembles her new body of work, a project that promises to be even more provocative than the photos that originally made her career. The film documents an incredibly tumultuous period in Tierney’s life, from London to Los Angeles to have a third child at age 41. Tierney is famously reclusive and has always wanted her work to speak for itself, for her audience not to have any preconceived ideas about Part of the fascination of “Tierney Gearon: The Mother Project,” which runs at the Museum of Fine Arts as part of its “Art on Film” series, is that the documentary is so firmly planted at the intersection of - maybe that should be a collision between - artistic selfinvolvement and family. Early in the film, Gearon confides that her mother is manicdepressive and schizophrenic. The older woman is a handful. “Are you going to pay me for my time, Tierney?” she asks as she poses. Still, the daughter’s description sounds like the sort of exaggerated complaint most adult children will make about a difficult parent. By the time the Mom confides that she’s the secret daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, we see what Gearon means. Some of Tierney Gearon’s photos are very good, especially her portraits of her mother (who’s almost as striking in appearance as she is in behavior). But what the documentary makes plain is that photography isn’t really Gearon’s calling. It’s performance art - more specifically, multi-generational performance art. “When I do things, I do things full force,” she declares. There’s no doubt about that, nor about her mother’s willingness to participate (her occasional recalcitrance notwithstanding). It’s the children one wonders about - and fears for. Old is Gold Philippe Halsman (1948) by Dalí Atomicus Dali Atomicus, perhaps the most iconic image that emerged from the collaboration of the eminent photographers, Philippe Halsman and artist Salvador Dalí. It legitimately took them 28 tries to pull off the jolly weightlessness of the photograph. However, the portrait of the artist inspired by his painting, Leda Atomica (1949), which appears in the composition’s right-hand corner—hanging suspended above the ground like the easel, chair, stepstool, cats, water, and Dalí himself, is the most eye-catching part of the entire masterpiece. Before the photographer duo could settle with the idea of tossing three cats up in the air, the Spanish artist suggested that they blow up a duck using dynamite, instead. “A true photographer wants to try to capture the real essence of a human being,” Halsman once famously said. However, capturing the essence of Dalí was a complex task. Over nearly four decades, Halsman photographed the artist on many occasions, spurring the most iconic black-andwhite portraits of the Surrealist. Dali Atomicus was an early example of the practice of a type of art that Halsman called “jumpology”. To capture the true spirit of his subjects—primarily celebrities and public figures who were accustomed to having a lens trained on them—he began asking them to make a jump after each photo session. “When you ask a person to jump, his attention is mostly directed toward the act of jumping and the mask falls so that the real person appears,” he once explained. However, years before he convinced Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Richard Nixon, and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor to each take a leap of faith, he staged the outlandish shoot of Dalí. The artist appears suspended in the air amid three flying cats, a stream of water, and floating furniture. The original version of the photo reveals the “behind the scenes”: An assistant held up the chair on the left side of the frame, wires suspended the easel and the painting, and the footstool was propped up off the floor. However, there was no hidden trick to the flying cats or the stream of water. For each take, Halsman’s assistants—including his wife, Yvonne, and one of his daughters, Irene—tossed the cats and the contents of a full bucket across the frame. After
"Philippe Halsman, Astonish Me!" at Musée de l'Elysée, 2014
each attempt, Halsman developed and printed the film while Irene herded and dried off the cats. The rejected photographs had notes such as “Water splashes Dalí instead of the cat” and “Secretary gets into the picture.” When Halsman was finally satisfied with the composition, Dalí added a finishing touch to the printed photograph: the swirls of paint that appear on the easel. The final image was published in Life magazine. “Dalí never really wanted to photograph; Philippe never really wanted to pick up a paintbrush,” she said. “But together, they collaborated and made the most outrageous pictures”, iterated Irene Halsman, daughter of Philippe Halsman.
