Message from the Founder/Editor

Did you know that throughout Jesus’ ministry He constantly had to market what He was trying to teach? He did it in such a way that it captured His audience’s attention, it captivated thousands of “followers”, and the stories He told are still being shared today, over 2000 years later. So how did He do this and what can we learn from our Saviour in regards to marketing our business?

1. He knew His audience better than anyone - He made sure the content He was sharing with them was relevant to their needs, worries, and problems, and giving them solutions to apply to their life.

2. He was a great story teller – Jesus knew His story and wasn’t afraid to share it. He made sure that every teaching He shared was in story form so people could understand it and relate to it. Everyone loves a good story!

3. His stories are timeless – Jesus made sure His messages were evergreen, meaning they are as relevant now as they were in the days He was here on earth in human form. His marketing/stories will never go out of date. 4. He created a ripple effect – Jesus shared the vision and recruited a team of people (the disciples) to help share His stories with the wider world so He could double and triple the number of people He was reaching without it taking up more of His time. This gave Him time to rest when He needed to and allowed Him to stay in the peace of grace. What can we learn from Jesus in a nutshell? Know our audience, share our marketing through storytelling, try and make our stories timeless so we can re-use them, and share our vision so that others are inspired to share our story. In this magazine, we want to take you through some other things to help you with the marketing aspect of your business. We want to share some offline, online, and other aspects - some simple, some more advanced, so you can apply what we teach to any level of business. I pray that you enjoy this issue of our CWIB Magazine and that God will give you ideas about marketing in your business that will help you share your story, inspire your customers, and build relationships authentically.

KINDNESS / noun the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 Being kind can often be seen as a weakness, but true kindness is a gift... it is a fruit of the spirit! If we let the spirit lead our kindness in our businesses, this will lead us to be compassionate and generous business owners. This doesn’t mean that we will be a push over, this means that as we use Godly wisdom and discernment, we can also outwork our plans with kindness in our hearts. We can choose to be kind in situtations where others may not have been so generous or forgiving. Go the extra mile, give the benefit of the doubt or add value to a sale where none was expected. There are so many ways that we can go beyond expectation in our businesses. I love what Maya Angelou said “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” People will never forget kindness and how it affected them. Just like having a coffee paid for by a stranger.... kindness leaves you impacted and leaves your heart open to others.

Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find a life, righteousness, and honor. Proverbs 21:21 Father God, As we work towards having a Kingdom business with you at the centre, I ask that you would show us ways to sow kindness into the lives of those that we work for, work and collaborate with. Show us how to allow your supernatural kindness permeate all that we do. Let every transaction have a heart transaction that goes with it. Help us to leave others impacted with kindness that is spirit led from your heart. In Jesus Precioius Name, Amen.

THE FIRST CWIB Community Conference 2018 Wow, what a party! It feels like ages ago now that Megan, Emily & I were rushing madly around Coolangatta with giant rose gold balloons getting everything ready to make our very first CWIB Conference perfect... what a conference it was! God certainly turned up that day. There is nothing like being in a room with a bunch of women and hearing them worship God. As I stood there listening to them worship, my heart was filled with joy (lucky one managed to hold back the tears at this stage, lol). Just knowing that you’re all on a similar journey too was the icing on the cake. Talking of cake‌ Look at what one of our beautiful members created for us! A big shout out to Sharon Steer from Sugar Buds and Blooms for creating our beautiful first birthday cake.

This was the first time after over a year of running CWIB that Megan, Emily & I were in the same state, suburb and room at the same time! Can you believe it?! We’ve spoken on Skype, Zoom and the phone for what feels like thousands of times and we finally got to hang out together. What an amazing time we had! Kerrie Phipps brought all her wisdom to the stage, sharing with us how to connect with our communities and customers without fear and by keeping it real. Joanne Hobbs from Teen Challenge QLD spoke wisdom into the souls of the women. Wow, what a woman she is!. Such strength and zeal was shared by this lady… Prophecies were spoken. turning that into a business. We started to feel like we were in the deep end more than ever before. We knew we had to grow so much as people, to handle the business God had called us to.

“Fast-forward about a year and Triangle House is doing things we couldn’t have even imagined when we started out. ” When we started Triangle House less than 2 years ago, we had no idea what we were in for or what it was going to look like. What we did know, being Mother (Pauline) & Daughter (Caragh) ourselves was that we wanted to build a business to compliment a lifestyle revolving around family, having just had my daughter enter our worlds.

It was at this point of feeling inadequate and under-skilled to be able to carry this vision that God poured out many different prophetic visions and dreams on both of us. While it was intimidating seeing the big plans God had for Triangle House, it was also comforting to know we were walking in the direction He wanted us to go. I believe this gave us even more authority to own what we were doing even if we doubted ourselves, because God's calling for us and our business is far bigger than us. We use this vision to remind ourselves that we have to rely on Him to get where we need to be.

Now at this stage we hadn't quite put our finger on exactly what we wanted to do. Don’t get me wrong - we had plenty of ideas (I mean we are creatives, right?) but with little experience in business & next to no capital, we had to work out what was viable. Everything we lacked in business savvy we made up for in creativity, so when we landed on the idea of starting creative workshops we felt like it was a great fit and that it was what God wanted us to do.

Fast-forward about a year and Triangle House is doing things we couldn’t have even imagined when we started out. We now call ourselves a Creative Events Company, as we primarily work with shopping centres to create workshops and activations. We have also been able to do this for local festivals and other council projects. This gives us the ability to give small creative businesses a platform to share who they are and what they do with others, and through all of this we influence culture in the community. We could have never anticipated that God would use us to have an influence over the creative industry and small businesses in our local area.

We started to run small events working with other local makers from our home studio. We were learning so much, and the more we learnt, the more we realised how much we didn't know. A whole new world of marketing, CRM’s, ticketing, and website design started to become overwhelming to us. If you are creative-minded you will totally understand the struggle of living and breathing creativity and

On top of this we have also had the privilege of starting Triangle Tribe, which focuses on creating a community and events to help people step into their calling and start an idea/business that has impact in the world. This was one of the prophetic dreams from the start of our journey that we are close to reaching. It has absolutely blown my mind to see the training God was doing at each challenge along the way. Because each opportunity has built towards the next, He has even used skills from other roles and experiences in the past, long before we started our business, and is using them all and weaving them together to make His plans come to life. We are walking into a new season as a business with a mindset of authority for the things God has - it’s in living in this place of faith that God pours out His favour. That's not to say we aren’t facing challenges, we are at the point where we are we hoping to scale our business and push into new areas. God has dared me to think bigger than I thought I could and has recently given us fresh visions of the things He has for us and, as you may have guessed it, they are BIG!

privilege of working in today, AND how different it would have looked if we didn’t take steps to follow the audacious plans God has. I have been able to see what He can supernaturally do when you align with His kingdom way of thinking and changing the world. I would encourage anyone reading this that God has called you to do amazing, impacting things with your business and to be okay with stepping into the plans God has for you, even when it’s intimidating and scary. Our business ideas are often a drop in the ocean of what God actually has for us and He will faithfully grow you through everything you face.

When I started uni, I struggled to see how my career choice of marketing would fit into the day to day of living out my Christian faith. To be honest, in the early days there was a bit of a divide between my ‘job’ and my Christian life. It’s taken a few years but looking back I can now see how the Lord placed me in certain organisations and businesses to grow His vision and I have allowed the Lord to lead my professional life with more intention. This marketing partnership with the Lord has been central to launching new businesses, schools, and churches. I’m passionate about using this thing called marketing to influence our world and in this article I would love to share with you a few foundational principles to help your business flourish.

Find Your Niche Often, new businesses get stuck in start-up mode … being the sole worker in their business with no days off or the means to scale. I believe that this happens because people are unclear of their path to success and are spreading themselves too thin by trying to serve a large audience. My suggestion is for you to select a niche audience that’s tightly defined when starting out. It’s not only a great way to quickly discover your path to success - it has great marketing benefits too. A tightly defined niche enables you to: • get specific and speak directly to the needs of your niche when writing advertisements, emails or sales copy • stand out from your competitors as a specialist in your area • dig deep with your marketing by mastering how to reach your specific niche • find efficiencies – you’ll become an expert in your field and have less of a learning curve in serving your customers. Imagine getting on the phone with a potential client and knowing exactly what their pain points are and how to sell to them? Once you have succeeded in one specific niche you can then take those lessons and broaden your offering.

Defining your niche will help you win in every area of your business.

Understand The Buying Cycle People sometimes get disappointed when they don’t see an immediate result for their marketing efforts. They’ll book a magazine ad and then measure it for immediate results. This leads to people potentially stopping effective advertising because they don’t understand their customer’s buying cycle and decision-making process. For long-term success, we need to shape our expectations in terms of how long it takes to get results; customers don’t immediately move from awareness to purchasing and your marketing needs to speak to people where they are at. Do some research to understand the ‘buying cycle’ of your customer. How long does it take for someone to move from first hearing about your business through to purchase? How do they shop for your product or service and what is the exact problem they are trying to solve? The higher the cost of your product or service, the more complex the buying cycle will be. Business owners can meet customers where they are at by building awareness around their product or service, and then re-engage these audiences to nurture them to a sale. Business owners often spend a lot of money to build awareness around their business, but then fail to make the most of every contact by re-engaging them on their journey.

Try New Things People often want a formula for their marketing, but different marketing techniques may or may not work for different industries, geographic areas, cultures and products or services. Never

Harvest customer witness and testimony We look to Jesus as our inspiration on nurturing a following. The closer the market is to your business the easier it is for them to take the step to buy. Their word will resonate with others and ignite their interest to find out more. Invite client-customers to write, speak or be photographed using your product or service. Never grow tired of asking this. This serves you to build trust in your business.

Illuminate your presence among the crowd. Speak your truth Today is no different to the time Jesus walked the earth – He not only communicated the message of His mission, He was the message. Father God knew what the people needed and He sent His messenger. Stepping into being the message in a crowded marketplace and stepping out in confidence takes courage. Focus on why you are in business - it will remind you that you owe it to people to learn about you and how you can help them. This serves you to be the impact the marketplace needs.

Listening with the ears of the heart will reveal what you need to know What can often be missed in the analysis of your marketing is the deeper discernment. This approach is counter-intuitive in our modern world. Make it a way of business to step into the silence and reconnect with the mission God has placed on your heart. This serves you to make space within for fresh ideas to emerge.

Speak the language of the marketplace Remember it is all about them. Talk about the result they will gain after buying from you. Use stories - they are the superglue of the message. The stories of Jesus have travelled through time; we never get tired of listening to them. This serves you to better connect.

Keep showing up as YOU Hold strong in the times when your message is rejected. Jesus felt this often in His ministry but He continued to be consistent. It’s easy to feel pressured when the message is not reaching the people who need to hear it. It can feel like it’s being rejected. Keep showing up with your message. You are only steps away from breaking through – recognise the temptation before you and don’t give in. This serves you to be true to your mission in your business.

Be present and engage visitors/guests in your virtual home. The invitation to follow me is everywhere in the digital social space. It calls on you to show up and open the door to your virtual home. Home is a place to listen and build relationships. Similar to Martha who opened her door to Jesus, yet it was she who chose to be busy away from His presence whilst Mary was attentive and listened to Him…it’s easy to be Martha but it takes a greater wisdom to be Mary. This serves you to better relate to the market you serve.

God doesn’t call the qualified; he qualifies the called. What is he calling you to do ?

Believe in the power of your own voice and authentic presence. Be original. Don’t be tempted to become a clone. Easier said than done when the comparison mind goes looking and exploring to find others who are alike – liken this to your competitors. To stray onto this path can expose feelings of doubt as we begin to consider others are better. The temptation of comparison can create a disconnect from the authentic message of why we are in business. This serves you to stand out in the marketplace.

Thou shall attract, not push. This can be the hardest part of marketing, how to sell without being sales-y! When we make our messages about them – our audience – it shifts our mindset away from feelings of neediness to get sales. Jesus always focused on the message to best serve the people. When we focus our efforts on expressing how we are the solution the sale comes easier. This serves you to make the sale easier.

Serve over sell To serve is to market – the emphasis on amazing service is the best form of marketing. Exceeding your client-customer expectations can turn them into your greatest salespeople. Jesus sent His apostles to bring the good news to many and be fishers of men. This serves you to build leadership in the marketplace.

Stay on MESSAGE No one else has a message like yours. What makes your marketing message authentic and original is YOU. Stay in your lane and be the message people need to hear. The message of Jesus in his ministry was consistent in pointing people to the Kingdom of God. People knew what He was about because He stayed on message. This serves you to illuminate the marketplace with your authentic presence.

The common thread in the Ten Communication Commandments to inspire your marketing is love. You lovingly accepted to take up the mission of your business, to serve the marketplace with your gifts and giftedness and to care about your client-customers.

How do we automate our processes so they run like clockwork…?

1. Create a (free) Trello Account. 2. Make a checklist for team members to follow 3. Make a training video to go with the checklist 4. Add a board in Trello called “*Staff Name* To Do” (if you’re keen to do some Trello training we can do this) 5. Create cards for the week when things need to be done, add the check lists and videos to go in them. 6. Take time to train and go through the videos and checklists with staff member. 7. Coach/guide/empower – be available for questions and answer them with grace and patience. No human is perfect, and asking staff to be perfect defeats the purpose of Jesus coming down and dying for us. It’s up to you as a leader who is ‘in Christ’ to manage this well if you want to get the best out of people. 8. Let go of the control and allow the team to automate tasks. You never know, they might think of a better way to do something than what you have, that’s why it’s called building a team.

As a business owner it’s your job to lead, not manage. If you want to set vision and expand your business you need to give your team creative space to help you. There are different ways you can automate by using technology as well. We use Active Campaign, which takes away a lot of pressure with emails, and we use WooCommerce to automatically take out membership payments (no need to send out and chase up invoices when you get paid up front). So don’t be shy at building automations into your business and setting it up to be a well-oiled machine, even if you want to keep it small. I’m Sharon Hankins – a DIY Blogger and Furniture Painter. My blog was created for DIYers and home renovators, encouraging them to make transformations in their own homes. This business journey began out of a love for taking old pieces of furniture that have been relegated to the garden shed and giving them a new lease of life. I find great satisfaction in being able to create a new look with a bit of sanding and a splash of paint. I was heading to our local recycle centre to find another rejected piece when I sensed God speak to my heart. I was taking these old items that had been kicked to the curb and bringing them back to a place of honour in the home. I felt like God said, “Sharon, I want to do this with people.” Bam! I knew there was more to just what I was doing in the natural, and before long, I began to notice I was coming into contact and building relationships with women who each had a story - a sense of being “kicked to the curb”. 2. Be consistent

When it comes to a visual platform like Instagram, consistency is key. It's time to pick up your phone and look at your feed - does it flow? What is visually appealing and what isn’t?

It is so important to create flow throughout your feed, because when someone clicks on your profile, they’re going to form an impression of your business very quickly. Does your Instagram account show that you are credible and competent? Don’t be fooled, first impressions matter. One of the ways that you can create flow throughout your Instagram feed is by the visuals. Here are two ways to create an aesthetically attractive theme that will make people want to click ‘follow’ within seconds: 1. Find a pattern and own it! People love patterns because they're predictable and consistent, and people know what to expect! When I was getting started with the @sheislight account, I used to post a quote followed by an image of a person followed by an image of flowers followed by a pretty flat lay. This kind of theme looked good and was easy for me to follow! 2. Use a filter and stick to it! Why? It's all about aesthetics - our eyes love to sift through images with similar colour tones. I know I love it when I find a beautiful feed where the colours complement each other perfectly. I find myself scrolling and scrolling and scrolling... it's kind of soothing! For example, all of the images that I post to my personal account - @elise_hodge - have been edited with one filter, time and time again. Occasionally I'll tweak the brightness or warmth depending on the image, but I usually stick to the same filter for each image.

3. Be Timely When it comes to engaging with your community, time is of the essence! When are your potential customers or clients likely to be scrolling through Instagram? If they're a university student, they might use Instagram throughout the day but if they're a businesswoman, they're likely to be scrolling when they get home at night. Your audience might be split between different time zones, like mine. For example, I'm based in Australia, however a large chunk of the audience for my online community, @sheislight, resides in the USA, so I am mindful to post during peak times for those in the USA and the rest of the northern hemisphere, as well as for peak times here.

Grum.... I love Grum. ... it is an Instagram Scheduling Platform and it’s main point of difference from others on the market, is that you use it via your computer and not your phone. This is great for those who curate designed/edited content and don’t soley focus on mobile device images. I LOVE the fact that I schedule everything on Grum from my desktop computer. I don’t have to log into Instragram on my phone - I just schedule it from where I sit. It also allows me to see my Insta layout in advance and make changes where needed, I can have multiple accounts and easily swap between them. An added feature is the ability to create the first comment on the post - I often use this to add/hide my hashtags. Grum also has a hastag calculator, so it will tell you when you have put in too many hastaga (Instagram only allow 30#). Overall, Grum is easy to use, very well priced and all done from the comfort of your computer - rather than spending hours scheduling on your phone :)

Did you know that Pinterest isn’t classed as a Social Media platform but actually a search engine. It’s so powerful that it ranks second to Google in the search engine realm. This gives you a completely different view on how to use Pinterest for your business.

Are you affected by the new API (application program interface) changes with Facebook? These are the external apps that were allowed to post on Facebook for you to your personal profile, your page, into groups and even through to events. This was great for those of us that were using them legitimately and not exploiting the system. Sadly, not everyone plays by the rules. Some companies have chosen to take people’s information which they have collected when someone has granted permission, such as through a game or a competition that you have entered, and have used that for their own purposes. Facebook announced over the last weeks that these would be restricted dramatically in their ability to post, mostly to stop the spamming ones that are collecting your data and then on-selling it, which makes for a real challenge for those who were using them in a legitimate and time-saving way. Currently, there are limited companies who have exemptions granted. Please check all your externally scheduled content to make sure it's getting through to your intended audience. Scheduling within Facebook is available for pages and groups, but not yet into events under the new changes. This one you need to do manually on the Facebook platform. Ultimately, the safest place to schedule posts is within the Facebook platform to guarantee that the posts go up. Facebook offers lots of insights and information that helps you to be able to see what’s getting you traction and what’s not.

What to schedule. Information posts about what you do are always good. You can talk about what you sell and why you love it, or what it does,

but your ratio should be at minimum 3 information – 1 asking. So you are giving your audience great stuff all the time, with the occasional “here’s what we have on offer” post. This helps you not to come across as only being interested in the sale. This is particularly helpful if you are in a service based industry.

Interact with your audience. If people are taking the time out of their day to comment on your post, make sure you take the time to reply. It helps

Lives and videos. Overwhelmingly in the CWIB community these are what scare our members the most! The good thing about them is that your audience gets to meet you! They get to see that there are real people behind a company. In a service based industry particularly, knowing that you connect with the person offering the service before you buy can be a really helpful tool. Your audience also gets to hear your voice. This helps them hear you and your inflection when they read your post. Remember though, it doesn’t need to be perfect! You don’t need to have professionally styled hair and perfect makeup to do a video. Just get on, be real and have some fun! This life is way too short to be boring all the time!

7.

Talk about WHO YOU ARE as an organisation, not just what you do. Share what’s going on for you and in your business. Are you nominated for an award? Are you going to a really cool course that will help you grow your business? Does some of your profit go towards supporting a particular charity? Are you meeting up with local leaders, or are you simply trying to do business around your kids while they are on school holidays? All of these things help put a personal face to your business. Showcase your staff if they are willing. Whatever it is for your business, make sure there is an element of the real-life people that are behind the scenes.

Have some fun. Not every post needs to be serious. It might be something funny that happened in the office. Test and measure. Everything is a test. Nothing is set in stone and some things that work this week may not the next time Facebook changes something. Track your likers and ask your clients where they found out about you. This helps you decide what to do more of.

Lastly, keep showing up. You never know who is watching you and what you are doing. The most amazing business relationships and client relationships have started with “I’ve been following you on social media” and not once have they liked something, commented or contacted you about anything previously.

9. AFTER THE LIVE

After the LIVE is over you may like to: // Change the video thumbnail in the video editor (go to your page video library, select the edit button of the video you are wanting to edit) // Change the title if you think it needs a change. // Boost your broadcast with FB ads (do this in ads manager) // Share your broadcast - get the URL link (control-click or right-click on the video itself and you should see an option to copy the URL link) and share your live post with any other social media related groups that you are connected with. Are you on Instagram? Let your audience there know that you were just live on your Facebook page and they should go check it out! Of course, prior to your live, you should announce on all your social platforms, that you intend to go live and let people know what to expect. // Add captions. 80% of videos are watched without sound! Adding captions can really make people stop and watch. This is done in the video edit mode and can be tedious, but totally worth it if you have great content to share. 10. SCEHDULE

Schedule a regular time to do your lives. When your audience starts to realise that, for example, every Wednesday at 2pm, you will be live on your page or group, they will actually start to turn up and expect to tune in at that time. You can also schedule an announcement post letting your audience know when you’ll be going live and what topic you will be covering.
