Canada Day Weekend 2018 Lots going on for the “Gate Crew”. The Saturday morning coffee, tea and towels. Later that morning Bob, Bruce and John assisted with VB Police bike auction. Gary stepped up as auctioneer and managed to get a few tears from the crowd. Bob rode the sand bar and water to Elk Island, found the trail and poison ivy. It was a lot easier 20 years ago. Monday saw five riders brave the winds with two of us finding the pot holes on Pitt Rd. Bob Marshall

Message from the President Hello All, Summer is in full swing and so is all the programming that fills our days and evenings. As Treasurer one of most exciting things for me was the introduction of online membership sales this year (just ask my wife, she laughed as I cheered every time I received notification of a new order). As Suzy mentioned in the first Herald a huge THANK YOU to Monica White for pushing the idea and to Terry Davison for his extensive work on this project. I am excited to report that we sold 119 memberships online as well as 181 tennis shoe tags and 66 yoga bands. For our first year I feel that was a huge success. Online memberships will be available for the 2019 summer season beginning in May 2019 so put a reminder on your calendar to check out victoriabeachclub.com next spring. It really does make it easy as you can pick up your regular wrist bands, tennis tags, and yoga bands all at the same time. I would also like to thank Suzy Cramp for agreeing to return as President. Her dedication to the VB club is second to none and I think I can speak for the entire board that we are thrilled to be able to continue working with her. I could say this about any week during the
summer here, but it is going to be another busy seven days. Please use caution and care Saturday morning, especially around the parking lot and sports field as tomorrow is the VB bike race. It starts at 10 am so feel free to cheer on the kids as they ride by. After that head on down to the pier to catch the 200 metre swim event at 2:00 pm. Even if you aren’t participating come on down to cheer on your neighbours and friends. Then S is for Sunday-Sandcastles and Soccer as both the sand castle building and Adult Soccer events begin at 10:00 Sunday morning. Then coming up next week we have the Rogers Rookie tennis tournament, teen movie night and Men’s golf tournament. Get out to as much or as little as you like, it’s your vacation! Last year when I wrote my article I gave you one day of notice for the masquerade. This year I am giving you a full week. So provided your child doesn’t change their minds next Friday morning you have lots of time to get your costumes ready for next Saturday July 21. Whether you are here for the weekend or the week, I wish you great weather, great times with friends, and a bit of relaxation. Dave Wilson
About the Victoria Beach Herald
One of the longest continuously publishing community newspapers in Canada, now in our 93rd year, the Victoria Beach Herald is a service of the Victoria Beach Club. The Herald prints nine issues each summer on Fridays from late June to mid-August. The Herald welcomes submissions from readers focused on family events, beach happenings, community issues, etc. Letters to the Editor are always welcome: they must be signed with the author’s name and be written with the understanding that many people read the Herald, including youngsters. Submissions should be sent via email to vbherald@shaw.ca. Those without access to email can place written submissions in the VB Herald mailbox behind the cash counter at the Victoria Beach General Store. Submission deadline is 4PM Fridays with the exception of VB Club event convenor submissions for events occurring on weekend days. Editor

VB Community Church
Welcome to Doctor Daniel Barnes and Thank You to Doctor Carry Martens-Barnes Welcome to Doctor Daniel Barnes who is arriving Friday and staying for the next two weeks. This is his second year with us. The medical committee would like to say a special thank you to Doctor Carry Marten-Barnes for her service to our community. She has been coming to Victoria Beach for several years providing continuity of service. Over the winter she helped us ensure that the correct supplies were on hand for the office. She has helped us find personnel too. We really appreciate all her efforts. The clinic at 124 Birch Avenue is open daily from 9:30 to 11:30 (except for Wednesday and Friday) and every evening from 5:30 to 7:30. In case of an emergency, the phone number is 204 756 6305. The clinic is available to everyone, whether you live inside or outside of the Vehicle Restricted area. Please remember to bring your Manitoba medical card and some cash or a cheque in case you need to buy medication from the clinic. Reeve, Council and the Medical Committee
Since I became a “senior” senior, I am no longer able, as I lack the mobility, to attend the council meetings. I feel it is necessary for everyone who owns a cottage to have a say in the affairs of the municipality. I have been wishing, for some time, that the council would provide transportation for those of us in the same situation as I. I am not opposed to a small fee to mitigate any costs for such a service. Some organization would be necessary in order to execute such a plan. Possibly those wishing to utilize this shuttle could phone the municipality office to sign up. I look forward to seeing you all at the next council meeting. Joyce Ramsay
VB Water Treatment Plant Information SCADA
The plant computer was replaced in 2017 and the term was used for the replacement of the computer. The windows operating system was the only component of the software that was upgraded in the system. According to the invoicing that is available and approved by current council $10 000 on two separate invoices for a newer currently obsolete computer and monitor with TCP and Ethernet card installed with last year’s version of windows. In going over the system, no upgrades appear to have been made to the system other than a transfer of the lookout system to Victoria Beach from Manco. The original installers of the system were in fact Manco not Celco. In regards to the Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) for the plant, two appear to have been replaced in the last two years. In contacting Celco, they forwarded the original quote for the one failed unit and their pricing was 30-35% higher than the cost of the drive installed this year by Contec. Copies of those invoices are on file in the RM office and were approved by current council CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE

The VB season is in full swing with great activities going on throughout the beach including the VB Community Church. The interdenominational church meets at 10am on Sundays in St Michael’s Church, corner of Pine & 8th. All are welcome! Thank you to Paul Boge who challenged and inspired us on July 8th. This Sunday Kris Taylor will be leading the service. Kris has been a regular on the Community Church’s roster and we look forward to hearing from her again this year. Choir practice starts at 9:30am prior to the service. Please come and join us if you enjoy singing- no choir experience required! Hope to see you all on Sunday morning!

CONTINUED FROM PAGE 5 last year and this year. Josh Learn is no longer with Celco but the current office staff was able to provide a copy of the open invoice dealing with the previous year’s VFD failure. No other quote is on file with Celco according to their email. It would be irresponsible to proceed with spare VFD units for the system at a cost of over $20 000 when we currently have all three distribution pumps operational. We have a duty standby and jockey functioning in the system already. The money can be better spent on other priorities in the water plant and the community.
Chemical Pumps
Four new digital chemical pumps were purchased last year after getting quotes for the acquisition of new system chemical feed pumps for the water plant. Thousands of dollars were also spent on spare parts kits for the older pulsatron pump over the last couple years. There is no inventory logs and several kits are on hand for models of pumps that are no longer in use. The newer digital units will be more accurate and integrate better with the automation of the facility. Speaking to the chemical dosing skids, whether we choose to call it removed or ripped out, the end result is the same. The process piping that was engineered and installed according to manufacturer’s recommendations and engineering regulators’ approval has been removed intentionally. Cannibalizing the existing system for any reason is not a good thing or recognized best practice. Modification of the existing system out of scope of the engineering installation requires approval of the government regulators. At this point I have been unable to find any permits from the Drinking Water Office (DWO) engineering approvals to that effect. The dosing piping and calibration cylinders were used in conjunction with the older feed pumps to verify the dosage of the chemicals to ensure QA/QC of the system. Without visual confirmation of a drawdown on each chemical feed system the operator is in effect driving the plant blind. Best practice, fiduciary responsibility in conjunction with legal responsibility as governed by mandatory operator certification holds these best practices as a gold standard in meeting these obligations. Two sets of these “removed” sets of piping were found in a pile outside of the plant under broken wood pallets. Pictures can be provided

to this effect. Another partial set is in a cardboard box in the water plant. The statement that I agreed with this is categorically incorrect. Returning to the original installation will ensure that process control and upsets in the system may be better anticipated and cost saving measures can be implemented. This will also ensure compliance with regulations.
Audits
The water plant has not been in compliance with audits for the last few years. Audits from DWO require current and accurate up to date records including online trending of the chlorine and turbidity. Last year’s requirements for disinfection sampling were not met and the water plant had a few process failures which were not properly documented or reported to the DWO. The current officer from DWO stated that he recognized that there were several reporting binders that are currently missing from the facility along with O&M manuals. The plant has also required a complete Standard Operating Procedure Book for the facility for the last several years.
Distribution System
Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health regulation MR210 requires that all communities that undertake an excavation are required to have a valid registration number with the government. Within 48 hours of an excavation a permit to excavate must be taken out. Duties and responsibilities outlining requirements and responsibilities are outlined within this regulation. Up to the point of the excavation that was completed on 4th, the RM was not registered according to Workplace Safety and Health. You cannot acquire a permit to dig unless you are registered with the province so the only assumption that I can make is that the municipality has never met its obligations regarding this legal requirement. It is a matter of public record in council meetings that the statement was made that the RM has never undertaken the duty of locates or permitting in the community. As I understand the regulation, each infraction of the regulation has a maximum fine of $250 000 at the discretion of the regulators. Duties involving Operator responsibilities on their license require reporting, disinfection documentation, and post repair or installation bacterial sampling are a requirement as well. No such reporting is on file with the water plant, RM office, or Drinking Water Office. Under the current license for the municipality, the requirement to have accurate up to date maps and drawings is clearly spelled out. A copy of the license is at the RM office and in the water treatment facility. Engineering approvals require permits whenever any extensions are undertaken within a community. As built plans are required in real time as the piping and valves are installed in the community. If the community was meeting this obligation, then there would be no need to rely or be held hostage by the information in the heads of individuals currently unavailable. Book Sale
Summer Winds Bicycle Valet Summer Winds Music Festival is happy to introduce a bike valet service for this year’s festival on July 20 and 21st. If you were one of the thousands who attended the Jets street parties, you may have seen how this popular service made bike travel easy and worry-free. Summer Winds bike valet service will be set up adjacent to the festival entrance and will be staffed by volunteers ensuring your bike’s security while you and your friends enjoy the music. This year gather your friends together and ride over to the festival knowing that you won’t have to walk home in the dark or spend Sunday searching the bushes for your lost bike. Check out the ad in this week’s Herald for more info.
The annual VB Book Sale took place last weekend and was another hit with the community. Like all VB Club events this doesn’t happen without dedicated volunteers. Pictured here are the volunteers that made it happen in 2018, and a few of the eager customers waiting in line!

Inspired by her training in Iyangar, Anusara, as well as her many years of study with Sandra Sanmartino and Dorothy Gregory. She currently teaches in Winnipeg. Her classes are accessible to all levels of practice. July 20th - We have Marisa Cline; her practice and teaching is rooted in Vinyasa flow. Marisa’s classes flow rhythmically through dynamic sequencing yet are grounded by a deep connection to the breath. Her gentle nature inspires students to listen to their bodies, to move and breathe with love and intention, all while cultivating a greater sense of awareness. Her passion in sharing yoga is to encourage others to move past limitations, challenge themselves, and tap into their true potential both on and off the mat. Marisa and her husband are owners of Peg City Yoga in Winnipeg. In addition to teaching locally, Marisa leads international yoga retreats in Costa Rica. 9:00-10:15 Yin/Yang - a balanced practice fusing dynamic, yet slow, flowing movement with long deep holds. 10:45-12:00 Slow and Deep - a gentle practice focusing on long deep holds and relaxing restorative postures. Lake Winnipeg Foundation: The People behind the Organization
Clockwise from left photo: Alexis, Kirsten, Chelsea, Michelle, Marlo Alexis Kanu, Executive Director: Alexis obtained a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from the University of Manitoba and worked with several other non-profit and community development organizations before stepping into the executive director role at the Lake Winnipeg Foundation (LWF) six years ago. Alexis has led LWF through a period of significant growth, particularly over the past year. This growth includes an increase in the LWF budget due to newly procured grants, and the
addition of new staff and programs. With Alexis’ oversight, LWF has become nationally recognized as a credible voice for the lake and those concerned with its health. This past year, Alexis was honoured by CBC Manitoba as a “Future 40” finalist, celebrating 40 Manitobans under 40 who are shaping Manitoba’s future. Marlo also co-ordinates fundraising and outreach events, creates content for LWF’s website, newsletter and social media networks, and assists with advocacy efforts in response to proposed bills or leading up to local/provincial elections. Kirsten Earl McCorrister, Programs Director: Kirsten is an experienced project planner. Since joining LWF in 2014, she has built collaborative relationships across sectors in order to actualize the Lake Winnipeg Health Plan, which is addressing the root causes of harmful algae blooms through the implementation of eight actions to manage phosphorus loading. Kirsten helped initiate the Lake Winnipeg Community-Based Monitoring Network (LWCBMN) which collects samples from sites across Manitoba in order to determine areas that are contributing a disproportionate amount of phosphorus to Lake Winnipeg. Kirsten has also lent her support and skills to the development of the Lake Winnipeg Indigenous Collective, a group of First Nations living on the lake’s shores that are protecting the lake through on-the-ground projects and policy initiatives. Chelsea Lobson, Community-Based Monitoring Coordinator: Chelsea has a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences from the University of Manitoba. Under Chelsea’s guidance, LWCBMN has expanded tremendously since its 2016 pilot field season, which saw 200 samples collected from 12 sites. In 2017, network volunteers collected 800 samples from 75 sites and this season, LWCBMN’s goal is to collect 1,500 samples from over 100 sites. Chelsea works with stakeholders including farmers, teachers, youth, scientists, and representatives from national and local conservation organizations. Her dedication to the program and
LWF was recognized this past year when she received the 2018 MAGNUS Catalyst Award for Top New Hire. Michelle Jordan, Finance & Office Administrator: Michelle is LWF’s newest staff member, having joined the team in May. Sandcastle Contest 2018
We are excited to host the Annual VB Sandcastle Event again this year. We have made a few changes that will help to make everything run a little smoother. So gather your team together and dig deep for some inspiration! We’ll see everyone on Sunday, July 15th at Clubhouse Beach. Draw up your plans and practice your sandcastle building techniques. That’s right parents and family – leave the inspiration and execution up to your kids. Do not help them dig a hole, carry water, or give them any suggestions. It’s tempting to add in a comment or two but please hold back! Let them create, persevere and surprise us all! Official Rules: • Register at the desk and stake your territory. Signs will be posted along the beach. • Building will commence promptly at 10:00 am (not before), with the exception of the *Super Structures. Those competing in the *Super Structures* category may begin as early as dawn toward the south end (pier end) of the beach. • Human powered only! VBYC Kayaking Meet Up (Sunset Paddle) Thursdays, July 5/12/19/26 and August 9/16 The kayak group is an informal, fun and friendly meet up. Open to adults (18 and over) and youth accompanied by a parent, we launch each week from the beach in front of the Victoria Beach Yacht Club on ‘sailboat beach’. The minimum requirement for participation is that you’ve had some experience and can keep your boat moving forward on a straight course. For safety reasons, a rescue boat and trained water rescue instructor from the sailing program accompanies the group to ensure no one is left behind. This also allows us to go wherever we want to paddle. If you would like to join us, please come early, prepare your kayak and be ready to paddle at 6:30 pm. Thus far, participants have to supply their own kayaks but we want to grow the program to be more inclusive. If you have a kayak that you are maybe storing and not using, please consider donating it to the Victoria Beach Yacht Club for use in the kayaking program. It would be greatly appreciated! If you are challenged to transport your kayak each week, consider joining the Victoria Beach Yacht Club as membership offers storage of boats. www.vbyc.ca Please call Susan Hall 756-3318, Sheila Grover or Greg Thomas 756-2367 with any questions.
Jamaica Me Crazy VB 30+ Dance
Saturday, July 28 • 7 p.m. Attire: Caribbean casual We took a cruise on the Love Boat at last year’s 30-plus dance and we’re going to continue in a Caribbean vein this year with “Jamaica Me Crazy.” The Hit Boss Band returns to our little piece of paradise to play the hottest songs by Bob Marley & The Wailers, UB40 and Jimmy Cliff. You might even hear some steel drums. If you’ve never had the pleasure of visiting the Caribbean, the 3 million-degree temperature inside the VB Clubhouse is a reasonable substitute. You’ll be hungry and thirsty, so we’ll be serving jerk chicken and rum-flavoured drinks. There will also be a vegetarian option. Tickets are $45 each and are available from Geoff Kirbyson (204) 771-0973 and Suzy Cramp (204) 292-0397. This event sold out 10 days before last year’s dance so please do yourself a favour and get your tickets early. Unfortunately, there is no prize for the most original excuse for forgetting until the last minute. And while we appreciate your effort if you organized this dance back in the 1980s, it does not entitle you to free admission for life. If you buy a ticket, however, we will welcome you on stage for one song to play the cow bell.

Beach Events!!
Ok, I’ll admit, I was a bit terrified for a few minutes there. At 9:30am, we had just finished setting up all the stations and laid out all the equipment for the morning when the sky opened up on us. Thankfully, the showers were short, refreshing and provided a much-needed break from the heat and humidity of the previous day and night. After a few hasty repairs (Thank you Mastercraft Staple Gun) the wind died and the sun fought its way out for a timely beginning as has become tradition for Beach Events. This year beach events presented twenty-five unique traditional games from nations all around the globe. Some of the games were so unique to their countries that we weren’t even sure how to pronounce the names! Those of you that are extremely well travelled will excuse the poetic license that was used to modify some of the activities to better fit our VB environment. (All of those of you with some Scottish heritage will certainly excuse the Haggis Toss substitution of a loaf of VB ‘Irish’ Bread). We had a turnout of over 200 participants this years that stretched across the beach for an hour and half before succumbing to Freezies and the annual Herald Photo opportunity. Many thanks are extended to our 25 station leaders for their time and efforts to make this a wonderful day; The rest of the Peacock family for their help in the variety of tasks leading up to the event (Frog eyes, rock collection, cutting stakes etc); The Rec Staff and Bruce for arriving early to set up equipment, music and run some of the stations; The Cheop family for helping run the events smoothly, distributing scorecards and making sure the freezies were distributed in a timely fashion; And others who stepped in during the morning to volunteer an older child or help with clean up. As this is our final beach events presentation as a family, we’d like to say thank you to the community of beach events participants for their gracious thanks and appreciation for the new format that we subscribed to. We are happy to share our lessons learned with anyone interested in convening this event for the 2019 summer. The Peackock Family

VB Yacht Club Update - Sailing “You do not ask a tame seagull why it needs to disappear from time to time toward the open sea. It goes, that’s all.” The famous circumnavigator Bernard Moitessier said that, and the old fellow is as right now as he was back in the days before the iPhone. Yes, sailing is a fine way to cast off distractions, embrace the environment, and listen to the sounds of the wind blowing through the rigging and your bow pushing steadily through the waves. It was printed in these pages last year and here it is again: sailing builds character. A sailor knows how to read the wind, the water, and the weather. A sailor finds the experience, the courage, and the seamanship they develop offshore can be equally meaningful onshore. The independence and control one feels at the helm of a sailboat is not easily replicable in many sports and some say in life. If you are now feeling deep in your heart an insatiable urge to throw your iPad in the lake, grab the kids, and make like the Swiss Family Robinson, you are in luck. The Victoria Beach Yacht Club encourages this behavior. While any reasonable adult is surely attracted to the romance of all this, kids just want to have fun and our Sailing School caters to everyone. Tallon, Olivia, and Andrew - our CanSail certified instructors - make learning safe and easy and ensure the focus is on having fun. We run separate lessons for adults/teens 14+ and kids 8+ until August 17. Come out and sail, meet some new friends, and have a fantastic time. Visit www.vbyc. ca for more info and to register. Remember: cool kids sail. If you already know all of this and are an experienced sailor or a Sailing School graduate we encourage you to come out and race in our weekend regattas. Sail your own boat or just show up before the 10am Skippers’ Meeting to try to secure a spot as crew. Don’t be afraid to give it a try – we are always super excited to have new boats in the fleet and new crew on board.
Have a cottage already? Will consider yours in trade.
The Annual Yacht Club Dance goes down Sunday, August 5th. More details to follow and tickets available the weekend of July 1415. Imagine how great it will be for you, a fresh graduate of the Sailing School, out there on the dance floor, not a care in the world, to whisper into your crush’s ear ‘I sail’.

Ladies Golf Tournament 2018
There’s a surprise challenge on the fairway in this year’s Ladies VB Golf Tournament. Instead of aiming for that wee faraway hole on 8th, golfers can try shooting for something a little bigger — and closer! — a bed-in-a-box for the cottage. This year’s shoot-for-the-mattress contest, thanks to Dreamstar Bedding and dealer Dave’s Furniture and Appliances, is clearly the sleeper event of this fun annual tournament July 25, for female golfers 18 and up. With limited space and just two time-slots to choose from (8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.), get to the golf course this week to register your spot in this popular nine-hole event. Create your own team or sign up as a single; it’s a great way to make new golfing buddies. This year’s tournament fee is only $20 — an excellent deal as it includes a prize-filled wind-up party at the Victoria Beach Community Centre on Hwy 59, with delicious treats from the Merry Makers. Registration is open just until noon July 23, and payment is required at registration (non-members also pay $15 green fees). The golf tournament committee has been out soliciting donations for prizes and silent auction items, which can be dropped off to any of the organizers below, or at the golf course up to July 20. Donors are, as always, gratefully acknowledged at the event and in the Herald online and in print. All proceeds from this fun beach event go to three local causes this year — our own V.B. Community Centre, Nova House Inc. and the East Beaches animal shelter. Don’t forget to tuck a little cash away to compete in the putting contest and enter our silent auction — it’s shaping up to be another year of great stuff from our local sponsors. TRIVIA NIGHT
You really are a Rocket Scientist! Prove to everyone at VB exactly how smart you really are at the Victoria Beach Trivia Night, on Friday August 3rd, 7:00 at the Clubhouse. Choose nine of your smartest friends and compete against other teams in the ultimate trivia contest. Teams will answer skill testing questions from ten diverse subject areas such as science, pop art, and perhaps auto mechanics. The game will take two to three hours to complete. So pick carefully and gather your smartest friends for a fun evening of intellectual competition. Let’s prove it once and for all that VB sailors have way more tact than VB tennis players, and that bridge players don’t hold all the cards. All will be competing for the title: “The smartest people in Victoria Beach”. The cost to register a team of ten is $100.00. Can’t find ten smart friends? Buy single tickets for $10 and be seated with others at the Genius Table. Tickets go on sale Saturday July 14, at the tennis kiosk. Get your team together early as tables are limited.

In Memoriam – David Hurst It is with great sadness and love we announce the passing of our Husband, Dad, and Grandfather David Lloyd William Hurst of Calgary Alberta after a six-month struggle with Cancer. David was born in Winnipeg to Alta Susan Hurst (RN) (nee Horsey) and Dr. Reuben Hurst. David grew up on Broadway in Winnipeg and graduated from the University of Manitoba with a master’s degree in science. Soon after he was hired as a pharmaceutical representative by Parke Davis and relocated to Calgary. He stayed with the company for over 30 years as it changed to Warner Lambert and then to Pfizer. He was well loved and highly, regarded and had many friends in the industry and all over his territory in southern Alberta. David spent almost 85 summers at his beloved cottage at 333 Sunset Blvd, Victoria Beach in Manitoba. The cottage was built by his father in 1928 and as friends and neighbors from the lake know, Dave could always be found working on projects in the yard until ‘cocktail hour’ at 5pm. It was at the lake that Dave taught his daughters everything from how to spot satellites and constellations in the night sky, to how to win at Blackjack, to how to avoid losing a limb while operating a radial arm saw. Together we transformed “Dad’s project” (the cottage) over the years from a shack to palace with lots of laughter and tears along the way. When he wasn’t at the cottage Dave loved to travel and was thrilled to visit Britain, Europe, Hawaii, the Seychelles, Mexico, the Caribbean. His favourite part of a trip was the meal on board the airplane and occasionally getting upgraded to First Class. Dave was an avid skier, teaching his girls and Patricia to ski by trucking us up to the top of the Black Diamond and waving us down in a trial by fire. He was also an avid hiker who enjoyed and made full use of the beautiful trails, lakes, peaks and valleys that make up the Rockies. We all learned that if we were going to do a job it should be done right. David was a guiding force in our family, with his “my way, or the wrong way!” mentality. He instilled a strong work ethic and a desire to do our best at whatever we attempted. A few “Davisms”

still crop up in conversation once in a while: “Think Ahead!”, “Cease and desist”, “Quit kibitzing!”, “all in due course” and “Dammit Hurst!!” when he made a mistake. David is survived by his loving wife Patricia and three daughters Tammy Howard, Shauna Baty(Tina) both of Calgary AB and Nancy Hurst of Ancaster, ON as well as his five Grand Children, Cody and Courtney Smith, Jordan Baty-Martin, and Summer and Senna Thomas. He is predeceased by his first wife Pat Hurst (nee Metcalfe), his two brothers Harold and Jim Hurst, and his sister Margaret Vernon (nee Hurst) all of Winnipeg. We love you Dad and miss you every day, but we rest happily in the knowledge that we will once again be together somehow, somewhere, sometime in the beautiful hereafter.
Tom Wilson June 16, 1943 – Oct 13, 2017
Our cottage is a little quieter this year without the early morning sound of cereal being poured into a bowl or the sounds of the seemingly endless list of odd jobs being done with the sad passing of our husband, father and Grampa this past fall. Tom passed away this past October after a courageous 4 year battle with cancer. He and his wife Norma first came to Victoria Beach as renters in 1972 before purchasing their current property on Birch Ave. Over the years Tom was involved with the Victoria Beach Club serving as Treasurer for a number of years in the early 1980’s. He was an avid and skilled golfer who took home the men’s tournament trophy multiple times. Tom had connections with many of the members of the VB community and always had a smile for anyone he encountered. Victoria Beach was truly his happy place and his love for VB has been passed down to his children and grandchildren who will be eternally grateful for the opportunity to share so much time with him in this magical place.
