Whether CREW54- "We have a new president and history was made. I think it should be looked at as a good thing for all of America, not just minorities. But you know you have to give "us" time to celebrate. I def think we deserve to cry, dance, smile however you express your happiness. Alot of blood sweat and tears fell for this day to happen." Mario Falcon - "I feel inspired; Excited 'bout his future, Excited 'bout my future especially..." Lucky Bronws- "I feel Obama as President now faces minoroties as a whole to practice what we have been practicing since Civil RIghts. Though Racism still exists, we can no longer say waht we can't do. It's up to us to change America. It is just the inspiration. Cotton - I acutally believe he is a symbol of quality, ispirtation, and the direction this country is going. The older generation is not gonna change but our generation has been waiting for this day. People have a ahard time with me cause I honestly don't see color. And igonrant person is an ignorant person. He is intelligent, well spoken, beauitiful person. Get it, person. Klleen - Everyone says to vote, but one problem; I didn't vote. I realize that Obama is gonna make a change, I just want to see
changes first. Next time for future reference toward everyone is to "vote". It does make a change, I trust in God & Obama! Excerpts from Obama's Inaugural Speech “My fellow citizens:I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I thank President Bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition.” “Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath. The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often, the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms. At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because We the People have remained faithful to the ideals of our forebearers, and true to our founding documents.” “We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are continued on page 11

OBAMA: A NEW ERA OF CHANGE? equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.” “We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth. Our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year. Our capacity remains undiminished. But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions -- that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America.”
“For everywhere we look, there is work to be done. The state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift, and we will act -not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together. We will restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology's wonders to raise health care's quality and lower its cost. We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories. And we will transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age. All this we can do. And all this we will do.”
“We are the keepers of this legacy. Guided by these principles once more, we can meet those new threats that demand even greater effort -- even greater cooperation and understanding between nations. We will begin to responsibly leave Iraq to its people, and forge a hard-earned peace in Afghanistan. With old friends and former foes, we will work tirelessly to lessen the nuclear threat, and roll back the specter of a warming planet. We will not apologize for our way of life, nor will we waver in its defense, and for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.”
FROM ONE FAT CHICK TO ANOTHER FROM FAT CHICK TO FAT CHICK by Sherril Metal SA Urban Reporter
SAU: Is it fair to say you like being Jen Kober? JK: YES! Except when the student loan officer calls and I act like I've never heard of her. SAU: How do people respond to you as a fat person?
JK: I always get the, "You've got such a pretty face" comment from skinny girls. And of course black men love me. SAU: How do you see the Plus Size community? JK: To be honest, I had no idea there was a community for us! This has thrilled me to no end. I've had huge groups of plus size folks showing up at my shows lately. All of them have been super supportive of what
I'm trying to do with my comedy. SAU: What did you do before you did stand-up? Did your parents want you to become a doctor or lawyer instead of a comedian for your professional life? JK: I've been doing stand-up since I was 16 - so I've never really had anther career path. I've had some odd jobs here and there to pay the rent - substitute teaching, selling insurance, etc. I got hired by Disney to perform full time at the Comedy Warehouse @ Pleasure Island back in 1999. It was my first paying gig doing comedy, and from there I just never stopped working. My folks love it! They know that this is what I was born to do, and they love coming to my shows - especially when I headline in Vegas or New York. They are always ready to live the jet set lifestyle with me on the road. My dad actually ends every phone call with "I love you, now become famous!" SAU: How did the comedy happen? JK: It really is my only skill. I went to an open mic in New Orleans when I was 16 (I lied and told them I was 18) and did some jokes I had heard on TV. I killed. After the show one of the other comedians came up and told me that I had to write my own stuff. Apparently I was a cover comedian and had no idea. So I wrote some super lame jokes and tried again. I didn't get as many laughs, but it set me on the path to figuring out how important writing is to the whole stand-up scene. SAU: Have you ever done an impression in front of the person you're impersonating? JK: I'm not really good at impressions, but I did have a joke about Sandra Bernhard that I told in front of her. She laughed really loud and was a great sport about it. SAU: Do you get bored doing the same material every night on tours? Are there certain towns do you do badly in? JK: I do so much new stuff at every show, that getting bored is not usually a problem. I like to try to mix it up as much as I can doing jokes in different order or changing
pieces of it to try to tweak it and make it even funnier. I don't think there's any place I've done badly in - though I never want to go back to Altoona, PA! SAU: What stand-up comedians do you go see in your time off? JK: Usually friends I haven't seen perform in a while. The last comedian I paid to go see was LEwis Black - and before that Ron White. I love those guys! SAU: What's the strangest heckle you've ever had? JK: One time a skinny girl stood up and told me she didn't think it was fair that I was making fun of her just because she wasn't fat. I told her, "You are a cheerleader, darlin'. And I have trouble wiping my ass. Sit down and take it." She cried. Why do skinny girls have to cry all the time? Because they are hungry, that's right! www.JenKober.com www.myspace.com/jenkober

REAL TALK By Michael Gray contributing writerr
Real Talk with Michael Gray started off with me writing articles for my school news paper with editing done by my girl Stefani Lackey and my brother George Gray A.K.A. (The Quiet One). The concept behind writing the articles started because people were always talking to me about there relationships, or asking me how to approach someone they to talk to.Back then people were able to contact me by way of e-mail www.real_talk_43@yahoo.com. I will respond back to them with answers to the best of my ability through articles I write in the paper hosted by the International Academy of Design & Technolog. Michael Gray” is not like the movie Hitch where I try to match the perfect couple together for a life long marital bliss. No! The first two words are “Real Talk”. For me to be real with you; you must be real with me, and ready to receive real answers. Once you dial the number, it will
ask for your credit card number, and then it will direct the call to me. I answer all calls myself. You will not talk to a recording once you pass the credit check. I can be reached 24-7. Calls are $2.99 a minute. A fifteen minute call is only $ 44.85. A young lady suggested to me that I am a little pricy, and that her events in her bedroom are just fine. My response to her was, “Good for you but, do your man feel the same way about you.” There was a moment of silence. Place no price tag on your will to know the truth people. I can only place food at your table… its up to you to eat it. For live feed back call me @ 866-967-7948 or my Webb site www.realtalkwithmichaelgray.com. I have recently completed school and now I have an Associate degree in Fashion Design & Marketing. I am also an Actor. I was in a play written and produce by Bobbie Mc Morris, which was performed at the Carver Cultural Center. I am also writing a book called the “The Other Woman”, which I plan to complete this summer.

SAN ANTONIO’S DJ TIZ: ON A MISSION DJing at the strip clubs for eight years and have have DJ'd at almost all the strip clubs in SA. Currently you can find me at the Players Club (formerly Paradise) Wed. Fri. and Sat. 7pm to 7am.
DJ T I Z, MAN ON A MISSION By Sherril Metal SAU Reporter
For years I have seen this tall, black, dread shakin' cameraman at clubs all over San Antonio. This mystery man has slid past me several times when I ran the Venue whipping right past me with a look that says "I am on a mission so U move." I have seen the mystery man at Tycoon Flats, Krystals, Joe's, Papa Ray's ..... and always the same thing - he is on a mission and won't be stopped. I soon learned that if this mystery man is there something important was going on. I promised myself next time introductions would be in order. Not too long ago I ran into him at Studio 37 for the Polar Pimp "J WALK" video shoot and finally asked him the burning question "Who are you?" My partner in crime Cris504 whacked me in the arm "Stupid! That's DJ TIZ!" After chatting with him I knew I had to get him for an interview...... so just for you my friends.... DJ T I Z!! SAU: Let's start with a bit of history. Can you tell us about your turntablism? DJTIZ: I started on Techniques 1200's ... you can't be no DJ unless you have had the Techniques! I use computers now. I been
SAU: Where are you from? DJTIZ: I was born here in the Tone but raised in N.Y. DJ DST was from my hood ... so was Clark Kent, Kid Capri. SAU: I heard you make underground videos .... how long have you been doing them and what are they of? DJTIZ: I have been doing underground music videos for three and a half years at all the clubs. I saw there was a need for the live uncut videos so I started doing them. I have interviews with Pimp C, Big Moe, 8ball and MJG, Big Joc before he signed; most of the interviews were done while they were grinding before they got big. I got drops from all the artists and used them in my advertising. My videos can be bought at Urban City, Texas Sounds, Southside Connection. SAU: You had a TV show for almost three years, what was your fave interview question to ask? DJTIZ: I don't really have one, we just talk
about anything and everything at the time. The show called "The Underground Network" on channel 20, and yeah it was on air for almost 3 years.
copyright when sampling music? DJTIZ: I don't do sampling. I make good relationships with the artists and just spin their music.
SAU: Who have been your influences DJ wise since you started? DJTIZ: DJ DST, Buzzy B, Bruce B, Kid Capri, Red Alert. Locally I have to give props to my nigga Big Mike.
SAU: If you weren't a DJ then what would you be doing right now? DJTIZ: Probably robbing banks cause I gotta get money.
SAU: Tell us about the projects you are working on. DJTIZ: I am working on a new DVD called "Sippen' Lean, Smokin' Green and Watchin' TV Screens, a Tribute to Big Moe VOLUME 3."
SAU: What are your DJ'ing goals for this year? DJTIZ: Making my DVD's the #1 underground DVD in the US. SAU: What other names have you gone by? DJTIZ: None .. its always been T I Z.
SAU: What do you think are your best qualities as a DJ? DJTIZ: Breaking records. I am one of the first to play all the brand new shit in SA. I was playing Trap Star eight months ago and My Dougie for over six months.
SAU: Whom would you want to work with that you haven't yet and why? DJTIZ: Lil Wayne cause he is #1 in the game right now and he has a long way still to go.
SAU: Best DJing experience? DJTIZ: I really couldn't say, just the fact that i am still DJing is the best for me.
SAU: You are one of the hardest working DJ's in SA, How do you keep the energy up and things fresh? DJTIZ: Music is my motivation.
SAU: If you had a time machine what year would you go back to? DJTIZ: Back when PE and all the conscious rap was in .... when rap had a message. SAU: Do you ever run into problems with
SAU: Three words that best describe you? DJTIZ: PAY ME FIRST Thank you DJ TIZ for granting me this interview, I had a blast talking with you. You can find him on MySpace www.myspace.com/dj_t_i_z.
WHAT’S THE WORD? On the streets of San Antonio and around the Nation...
People also say... Houston artist should move to San Antonio... they're here all the time! Are Promoters & Radio complacent or scared to be aggressive or keep it real? When will Jill Scott, Billy Cook, Roots, Ice Cube, Eryka Badu, Grits, Dead Prez & Mary Mary get some shine in S.A.?
vehicles.... What up with that?
Some say there's too many folk in bed together... like take Cox radio KCYY ( Y100) Country slaving KPWT (Power 106) so called Hip Hop Station. The fact of the matter is after looking from Robert Neil to Robert Reed I think the only possible candidate might be Faith Perkins.... She sounds black but who knows she is in Human Resources. May be she can hire a black program director like DJ Donnie to run Power. Most of the clubs in cahoots with the radio stations too. Do any Black People even work for the beat?? During the Largest March in the World there wasn't one black driver for the 98.5 The Beat
How do we have the Largest March in the World... On The PLANET and the Micheal Baisden and Tom Joyner Morning Show gets Canned, yanked and Shanked from FM to AM to Big Boi in the Morning. These two shows dealt with issues of the Hip Hop culture for Christ, Buddha, Muhammad, Africa Bambaataa sake. What up with That?? Here's a suggested solution... Unite...Love those that Love Us...We gonna Boycott those who don't. I'll Save my Dollas! One Example is we will Support Red Dragon Promotions. There will be an event in March to find out who's the best Artist in SA Town. It is a 4 week elimination talent performance with a guarantee for 1st,2nd & 3rd Place.
Band Name: Nancy Silva Project aka NSP Band member names: Nancy, Rick, Jesse SAU: When did you first realize you wanted to sing or be in a band? NSP: When I was nine years old, my brother played in a rock band & taught me how 2 play guitar. Shortly thereafter, I began singing. Later that year, I began playing in a band at a rec center & starting performing as a solo artist. SAU: Is this the first band for all of you? NSP: No, we have all played in previous bands.
SAU: How long have you been together as a band? NSP: 2 years SAU: How would you describe your band's sound? NSP: Pop rock with a heavy-edge & melodic vocals. SAU: Would you consider your music unique? NSP: I definitely feel we have our own sound. I think we create a lot of sound for a three piece. SAU: What's it like being a female in the Rock scene? NSP: Awesome, I love it & I have a lot of local support. SAU: Why do you think most girls don't
start or join bands? NSP: A lot of girls have that fear of taking that step because they feel they will not be respected or taken serious, but the music industry has changed a lot. I feel that if u believe in yourself, u can do anything u want.
Pass this newspaper on to your friends and family. Don’t throw it into the streets... This paper creates urban awareness!
The song for this story is by Quincy Jones... "What Makes You Feel Like Doing Stuff Like That." This has been a Scorpion Media announcement.
would be a good song to cover in our style, so we gave it a little heavier edge. SAU: What has been your most memorable concert so far? NSP: The Whiskey a GoGo & The Cat Club in West Hollywood, California (Aug. 07) and the Cult to Follow (Dec. 07) show was very cool.
SAU: What kind of music do you listen to when you're just hanging out? NSP: Metal (slipknot, tool, deftones), emo, rock, pop & hip hop. SAU: What inspires you and the band when writing songs? What motivates you as an artist? NSP: My biggest inspiration is life in general (love, loss, hurt, emptiness…). What motivates me as an artist is when performing live and the audience is singing along 2 our songs, that's very cool. Also the feeling of appreciation when people tell you they enjoy our music. SAU: Who inspires you? NSP: Alanis Morissette, Fiona Apple, Lacey Mosley (Flyleaf), James Maynard Keenan (Tool/Perfect Circle), John Frusciante & Travis Barker.
SAU: You revamped "Mental Hopscotch" by: Missing Persons, what made you choose that particular song? NSP: Jesse our drummer thought that it

SAU: What made you choose the name of your band? NSP: I had written and arranged my ideas and we went into the studio to record. Once we recorded we were ready 2 play live and Jesse came up with the name "NSP." However, when we started booking shows people began posting it as Nancy Silva Project, so it kinda stayed that way.

SAU: You have performed with quite a few San Antonio Rock bands, who would you say, other than yourselves, is genuine in their aspirations as opposed to just being in it for the "rock star" persona? NSP: We feel that every band that we've played with is true to their art and are out there playing music for the same reason we are. That is because we love it & we are all trying to get to the next level, and who doesn't want to be a rock star (haha).
And Anotha Thang!! It's come to our attention that people are tired of these bars & clubs not having a sense of purpose when it comes to the Hip Hop culture. It seems it is a lack of black owned venues and that means you have other folk dictating the culture from their perspective.

TEANECK, NJ – Images of the perfect face grace magazines, billboards, and television screens throughout the world. We are bombarded with products and treatments to improve our looks in hopes of reaching an ideal level of beauty. For survivors of catastrophic burns, that hope seems shattered. But thanks to the Burn Advocates Network (BAN), burn survivors now have an outlet to rebuild their self-esteem as they face the challenges of reintegration into society. SXSW Is Here Again .... Are You Ready? The official line-up for SXSW 2009 has grown to include more than 1,000 acts. Are you one of them? If you are serious about your craft .... then this is the event you should have prepared for all year long - and paid for a year in advance. Why is this one event so important? Aside from the hundreds of big name rappers and bands, people like writer/director John Hamburg (Along Came Polly) will be in attendance for a special panel with cast members Paul Rudd (The 40 Year Old Virgin), Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Rashida Jones (NBC's The Office). Ever thought about making movie soundtracks?
How about getting into the porn biz? Vivid's co-founder and co-CEO, Steven Hirsch will be there to speak on a panel along with two of the studio's most popular contract performers, Vivid girls Hanna Hilton and Meggan Mallone. So why should you go? Connections ..... and big ones. But only the best or the best prepared will be seen and heard..... where will you be? Confirmed acts include Andrew Bird, Devo, Delta Spirit, Gang Gang Dance, The Low Anthem, Wild Sweet Orange and Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele.... and the Keynote speaker is Quincy Jones. "The more time you spend with burn survivors, the more your perspective changes about what challenges they will go through for the rest of their lives," said Sam Davis, founding director of BAN. Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, which houses the nation's only military burn unit, has seen its fair share of burn patients from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now, the soldiers who have suffered these devastating burns must fight a new battle as they face the excruciating pain and physical and psychological challenges no one should ever have to go through. One of those brave men was Marine Sgt. Merlin German. The family and friends of German, a U.S. soldier burned in 2005 while serving in Iraq, was presented with the Burn Sur-
vivors Who Inspire award at a Burn Advocates Network fundraising event in at the Ultra Bar in Teaneck, N.J. Among the people who turned out to show their support of BAN were rock musician Leslie West of the band Mountain. West is dedicated to BAN's mission and serves as music director for the organization's burn camps.

"We are one people, We are one nation; and together, we will begin the next great chapter in America's Story" -Barrack Obama This great man is not talking about the past or another man's history. Barak Obama spoke to each of us about creating our story. Today we are able to create our own unique story of hope and change, which we will share with joy as we give life to new generations. Individually our call to service is simple: find a way to inject life and love into our communities all around America. These gestures of service only come with one fundamental rule.... we must begin giving more then we receive. Understandably, in today's tough economic times, as individuals we are having to work harder and longer to take care of our own, however, this does not excuse us from this call to service. The expectation is set and the time for change and improvement is now. As individuals of our great nation, you and I, are the ones who must find unique ways to give - then immediately act upon them.

Burn camps throughout the United States offer children with major burn scars and often damaged hands the opportunity to participate in music groups via adaptive musical instruments. "When you feel sorry for yourself, then you see these soldiers and kids, you stop sulking," West said. German was burned over 97% of his body when a roadside bomb exploded under his Humvee. Like all soldiers who suffer severe burn wounds while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, German was sent to BAMC. He was not expected to survive, but after over 9 months in the intensive care unit and over 150 surgeries later, he had clearly defied all odds. German became known to everyone as the Miracle Marine. German died April 11, 2008 from complications after a skin graft surgery. The charity he created, Merlin's Miracles, lives on as a tribute to his vision. German was 22 years old. The event also marked the sendoff for a dozen Strumsticks to recuperating soldiers at BAMC.

On January 19th, our nation honored Dr. Martin Luther King and carried forth his actions of hope. Communities formed circles of hope and acted on our ideas of change that will create our story of today and our children's story of tomorrow. Let us continue down this path of service right here in San Antonio and set an example for our nation. Let's show America that San Antonio is ready to be called to service everyday.

For those of you unfamiliar with this particular ethnobotanical, a quick description would peruse that it fits into the hallucinogen category, same as LSD. Only salvia is organic, whereas LSD is man made. And, unlike LSD or other drugs, there are no, and I repeat NO, known adverse side effects or long-term health risks. The problem comes when idiotic... no,. stupid kids go out and try to party with salvia. They don't know what it is, what it can do (other than get you f*ck*d up), or how they are going to react to it. All they know is that it's legal, and it's classified as a hallucinogen. So without any research, they go to their nearest head shop and buy whatever they can find for sale. They smoke it while drunk, while
high on other illegal substances, while driving, or trying to party. And they freak out. Salvia is now under a watch by Federal and local drug authorities to see if the use of salvia is wide spread enough to criminalize it sale and consumption. All because these kids seriously injure themselves or -at the extreme end- kill themselves. Don't laugh, because I know you are. It's been on the news, google the name Brett Chidester or "Brett's Law". But if you get past all the media bias, and fear of drug lore, you can read into further issues. What issues? Brett was depressed. Brett was possibly an alcoholic. So where does that leave us? Nowhere. Because this is nothing of importance. Brett killed himself. I'm sure all the signs were there. The point is this... salvia is not harmful, not addictive, not anything we need to be concerned about. So I will again reiterate what I stated before; SALVIA IS A NATURAL PLANT THAT GROWS IN THE DIRT. Who do you trust more? Man or God? I'm on the side with my deity.

I been

NSP: Jesse our drummer thought that it
This promoter is moving the Hip Hop community in the right direction. For more information listen to SA-Urban.com

by ♫ Aimée D ♫ SA Urban Reporter
SAU: What made you choose the name of your band? NSP: I had written and arranged my ideas and we went into the studio to record. Once we recorded we were ready 2 play live and Jesse came up with the name "NSP." However, when we started booking shows people began posting it as Nancy Silva Project, so it kinda stayed that way.
#*!#*!#*
