COUNTRY MANAGER Position Purpose
The purpose of this position is to develop and ensure implementation of the Star Agritech International (SAI) Cigar Region’s unmanufactured tobacco sales infrastructure in Dominican Republic, prospecting clients, supervising logistics, local marketing and managing the documentation in order to achieve the SAI’s Sales targets. The country manager assumes a primary role in the development of SAI sales within the territory by achieving all sales objectives and by maximizing the cigar market of our products while working within the guidelines set by corporate policy. Incumbent must be able to communicate in a timely, efficient, and effective manner and build relationships with customers. This position is located in Santiago, Dominican Republic

José Manuel, hijo de Jochy, quien está siguiendo sus pasos en la industria, nos presenta y explica estas dos mezclas exquisitas y únicas. “Cumplir 85 años es una gran hazaña para cualquier empresa, y en Taba-
calera Palma queríamos hacer algo igual de emocionante para conmemorar este increíble momento. Cuando nos sentamos a pensar en formas de transmitir con precisión lo que esta ocasión significaba para nosotros, ambos decidimos consultar a nuestros padres. Mi padre revisó docenas de garabatos y párrafos independientes en los cuadernos de mi abuelo y reexaminó la sabiduría del cultivo y procesamiento del tabaco de dos ge-
neraciones, junto con la sabiduría de fabricación de cigarros de una generación. Tomé prestada la sabiduría de mi padre después de sobornarlo con un whisky barato. El resultado fue un par de cigarros envueltos en tabaco de semilla estadounidense dignos de ocasiones tan memorables como un 85 cumpleaños. La mezcla de mi padre se inspiró en mi abuelo, Don Nanán, a quien le

encantaba la capa de Connecticut casi tanto como a sus nueve hijos. Combinó décadas de técnicas de mezcla no utilizadas con tabacos de semillas dominicanos y produjo un cigarro dominicano tradicional hecho con capote Corojo con tripa Piloto Dominicano y Criollo 98 de nuestras fincas Jacagua y Gurabo, dándole las notas típicas de pasas y nuez moscada de los tabacos dominicanos. Mi contribución a este proyecto fue un cigarro intenso envuelto en una capa de Connecticut Broadleaf. Me inspiré en la incesante obsesión de mi padre por experimentar con diferentes mezclas de tabaco y decidí usar una combinación de tabacos de semillas dominicanos y cubanos. El resultado es un humo espeso achocolatado con notas de canela que proviene del capote Piloto Cubano y de la tripa Criollo 98 y Corojo de las fincas Potrero y La Canela”. To celebrate the 85th anniversary of Tabacalera Palma, José Arnaldo (Jochy) and José Manuel Blanco, father and son, have teamed up to develop an exclusive cigar, La Galera 85th Anniversary. José Manuel, Jochy’s son, who is following in his footsteps in the industry, introduces us and explains these two exquisite and unique blends. “When we sat down to think of ways to accurately convey what this occasion meant to us, we both decided to consult our fathers. My father revisited dozens of scribbles and stand-alone paragraphs in my grandfather’s notebooks and reexamined the tobacco growing and processing wisdom of two generations, along with the cigar manufacturing wisdom of one generation. I borrowed my father’s wisdom after bribing him with some cheap whiskey. The result was a pair of cigars wrapped in American seed tobacco worthy of such memorable occasions as an 85th anniversary. My father’s blend was inspired by my grandfather, Don Nanán, who loved Connecticut wrapper almost as much as his nine children. He combined
decades of unused blending techniques with Dominican seed tobaccos and produced a traditional Dominican cigar made with corojo binder, with Piloto Dominicano and Criollo 98 filler from our Jacagua and Gurabo farms, giving it the typical raisin and nutmeg notes of Dominican tobaccos. He went on to describe his cigar as being a more leathery smoke, with his inspiration coming from his father’s incessant obsession with experimenting with different tobacco blends. La Galera ha lanzado un nuevo cigarro, La Galera Imperial Jade, envuelto en tabaco de semilla de Camerún, muy pocas veces usada.
Esto, debido a que la semilla de este tipo de tabaco es propensa a enfermedades, de bajo rendimiento y se produce en Camerún; una República Centroafricana que carece de productores experimentados y personal capacitado para encurtir, curar y clasificar el tabaco. La falta de conocimientos técnicos sobre el tabaco en Camerún significa un trabajo extra para el personal en Tabacalera Palma. Cuando se recibe el tabaco, debe pasar por procesos adicionales, asegurándose de que el tabaco cumpla con el estándar requerido antes ponerlo en los cigarros. Esta capa Camerún aún es más desafiante, porque es fina y rígida, lo que la convierte en compleja de manejar. El producto final es algo que, como el Jade Imperial, es seductor, suave al tacto e irresistible a la vista.
CARACTERÍSTICAS // CHARACTERISTICS La Galera had launch a new cigar, La Galera Imperial Jade, wrapped in Cameroonian seed tobacco, which is few used in their cigars. That because this seed for this type of tobacco is disease prone, low yield, and produced in Cameroon, a Central African Republic that lacks experienced producers and knowledgeable personnel for pickling, curing, and classifying the tobacco. The lack of tobacco know-how in Cameroon means extra work for employees in Tabacalera Palma. When the tobacco is received it must go through additional processes, making sure the tobacco is up to the standard that require before putting it in the cigars. Working with Cameroon is even more a challenge, the wrapper is wafer-thin and stiff, making it a nightmare to handle. The final product is something that, like Imperial Jade, is seductive, soft to the touch, and irresistible to the eye.

La información sobre el mundo del tabaco estará disponible para las empresas las 24 horas del día, los 7 días de la semana en todas las zonas horarias y fronteras nacionales, lo que les permitirá conectarse con jugadores en el país y en el extranjero en todo el mundo del tabaco. Todo el contenido de Business Insights estará disponible todo el tiempo en dos idiomas, alemán e inglés.
From 16 September 2021, around a year before the start of the next InterTabac and InterSupply fairs, the new joint platform Business Insights will offer the entire international tobacco industry a year-round place where they can meet online for networking and interaction, complementing the face-to-face annual exhibitions at Messe Dortmund. Information on the world of tobacco will be available to businesses 24/7 across all time zones and national borders, enabling them to connect with players at home and abroad right across the tobacco world. The entire span of Business Insights content will be available all the time in two languages, German and English.

TOBACCO EXPERT Position Purpose
The purpose of this position is to develop and ensure implementation of the Tobacco Solutions Asia Limited’s (TSAL) unmanufactured tobacco fermentation and aging technology in China, supervising industrial fermentation, quality evaluation, developing the cigar portfolio and process in order to achieve the TSAL’s targets. The tobacco expert assumes a primary role in the development of TSAL industrial fermentation and aging technology within the territory by achieving all sales objectives and by maximizing the cigar production of our client’s while working within the guidelines set by corporate policy. Incumbent must be able to communicate in a timely, efficient, and effective manner and build relationships with our customer. This position is located in China
Minimum Qualifications
• Industrial fermentation and aging technology expertise: including the research on the cigar fermentation process and tobacco leaf aging technology. The establishment of cigar fermentation and aging technology system to optimize the aging technology of fermented cigar leaves. • Aging technology of cigar: carry out research on the dynamic changes of the main chemical components and sensory quality of finished cigar product in the aging medium, construct the key technology of cigar aging. • New medium for fermentation and aging: carry out research and development of new fermentation and aging medium which highlight the characteristics of cigars, and form the application of featured medium in the fermentation. • Quality evaluation: including the research on the appearance quality, physical characteristics, sensory quality, style characteristics and other evaluation system and evaluation application directions. • Propose the industrial demand of cigar raw materials in the agricultural link: cooperate with the related work of agricultural cultivation, curing, agricultural fermentation and other links. • BA degree is preferred. La Embajada de la República Dominicana en Washington realizó una recepción para promover el ron dominicano y los cigarros premium, realizada en los jardines de la residencia de la embajadora dominicana en Estados Unidos, Sonia Guzmán Klang. La actividad se llevó a cabo en coordinación con miembros de la Asociación Dominicana de Fabricantes de Tabacos (PROCIGAR) y la Asociación Dominicana de Productores de Ron (ADOPRON), quienes agasajaron a unos 120 invitados con muestras de sus exquisitos productos, degustando también café y chocolate. La embajadora dominicana, Sonia Guzmán, dijo: “Es un honor para mí darles la bienvenida a esta noche de cigarros y rones dominicanos, dos industrias de tradición y de vital importancia para la República Dominicana. Por eso para mí, como embajadora dominicana en Estados Unidos, es una gran alegría compartir con todos ustedes, familiares y amigos, esta degustación de dos productos que forman parte de nuestra marca país”. Durante sus palabras, Hendrik “Henke” Kelner, presidente de PROCIGAR, llamó al cigarro un “amigo leal” que ayuda a los fumadores a “soportar la soledad sin trauma ni amargura” en tiempos difíciles, refiriéndose al período de pandemia. Al evento asistieron congresistas de Estados Unidos, funcionarios del gobierno federal de Estados Unidos, representantes del cuerpo diplomático, agentes especializados y empresarios relacionados con la venta y distribución de puros y ron en Washington, Virginia y Maryland, y otras ciudades de Estados Unidos.

The Dominican Embassy in Washington held a reception to promote Dominican rum and premium cigars, held in the residence’s gardens of the Dominican ambassador to the United States, Ms. Sonia Guzmán Klang. The activity was carried out in coordination with members of the Association of Dominican Cigar Manufacturers (PROCIGAR) and the Dominican Association of Producers of Rum (ADOPRON), who entertained some 120 guests with samples of their exquisite products, also tasting coffee and chocolate. Ambassador Sonia Guzmán said: “It is an honor for me to welcome you to this night of Dominican cigars and rum — two industries of tradition and vital importance for the Dominican Republic. That is why for me, as a Dominican ambassador to the United States, it is a great joy to share with all of you, family and friends, this tasting of two products that are part of our country brand”. During his speech, Hendrik “Henke” Kelner, PROCIGAR president, called the cigar a “loyal friend” that helps smokers “endure loneliness without trauma or bitterness” in hard times, referring to the pandemic period. Also in attendance: Víctor Bisonó Haza, the country’s minister of industry, commerce and small- and medium-sized enterprises; Iván Hernández, executive director of INESPRE (Price Stabilization Institute); Biviana Riveiro, executive director of ProDominicana; Roberto Herrera, president of the Dominican-American Chamber of Commerce; and Vinicio Subero, vice-president of the Dominican Association of Rum Producers (ADOPRON). The event was attended by US congress members, officials of the US federal government, representatives of the diplomatic corps, specialized agents and businessmen related to the sale and distribution of cigars and rum in Washington, Virginia and Maryland, and other cities in the United States.

Another unveiling was one of the hotels name changes, before The Gran Reserve and now Paradisus Grand Cana, which has an avant-garde model of optimization of materials and energy efficiency, which is family-oriented, with an All-inclusive culinary concept, the contemporary Maia Spa, a fitness program, exclusive services, seven specialty restaurants, five bars and a water park. The gastronomic and beverage concept has been raised to another level. We explore the new Sal and Tokimekum restaurants in Paradisus Palma Real that come to enhance the culinary journey. Laurent Brouard, is the new Culinary Director, with experience in the gas-
tronomic restaurant La Ferme Saint Michel, in Cancun, among others. We met the new specialty chefs, Marcos Fabián Ghigliano, Executive Chef, Uruguayan with a master’s degree in Puerto Rico, studies in hospitality and international tourism in his country, he was a private chef at the OAS. Also, to Rodrigo Barco, Asian, Nikkei and Peruvian Specialty Chef with experience in processing techniques, certifications and member of the Peruvian Gastronomy Association; as well as Aaron Michael Stebbins, Steak House Manager. And to complement the amazing experience at Paradisus, we let ourselves be surprised by the new mixologists Lisander Peña, at
Paradisus Grand Cana, who has more than nine years of experience in bars and restaurants, winner of international cocktail awards in the United Kingdom; and Cheytan Báez, at Paradisus Palma Real, with six years of experience in hotels, who has been awarded as champion more than five times in important Cocktail competitions at the National and International level, in addition to being a certified sommelier with mastery in different food and drinks areas.
