La Premium Cigar Association (PCA) ha cambiado la fecha de la feria comercial 2024 de verano a primavera. Ahora, la Convención y Feria Comercial Anual se llevará a cabo del 22 al 25 de marzo de 2024 en el Centro de Convenciones de Las Vegas.

“Con el cambio a marzo, la junta realmente siente que este es un momento óptimo para la industria, ya que los minoristas podrán realizar pedidos antes de que llegue la temporada alta y tener los productos nuevos y exclusivos en sus estantes cuando la demanda sea más alta. Además, muchos minoristas que no pueden asistir en el verano, cuando el negocio está en su apogeo, podrán asistir al evento más grande de nuestra industria”, dijo Greg Zimmerman, presidente de la Junta de PCA.

The Premium Cigar Association (PCA) has changed the 2024 trade show date from summer to spring. Now, the Annual Convention and Trade Show will be held on March 22-25, 2024 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

“With the move to March, the board really feels that this an optimal time for the industry as retailers will be able to place orders before the busy season hits and get the new and exclusive products on their shelves when demand is the highest. Plus, we anticipate that many retailers who are not able to attend in summer when business is at its peak, will be able to attend our industry’s largest event,” said Greg Zimmerman, president of the PCA Board.

UU.

This year marks a big milestone as La Aurora is celebrating its 120th anniversary and comes to the trade show by La Aurora USA LLC, for the first time, after announcing last year that the company was taking control of its distribution in US.

LA ASOCIACIÓN INTERNACIONAL

CULTIVADORES DE ENCUENTRO REGIONAL Salta,

Representantes de los productores de tabaco de cinco países -Argentina, Brasil, Colombia, República Dominicana y EE.UU.- se reunieron en Salta, Argentina, con motivo del Encuentro de las Américas 2023 de la Asociación Internacional de Productores de Tabaco (ITGA). El evento, al que asistieron partes interesadas regionales e internacionales, se centró en los acuciantes desafíos a los que se enfrenta el sector. Durante el evento, los participantes han señalado la Organización Mundial de la Salud

(OMS) Convenio Marco para el Control del Tabaco (CMCT) décima Conferencia de las Partes (COP) que tendrá lugar en Panamá a finales de este año, como una de las principales preocupaciones. La presión sobre los productores de tabaco se ha intensificado considerablemente, los productores soportan una carga adicional, dado que tienen que estar en los campos, para sostener los principales pilares de la industria. Al mismo tiempo, la viabilidad de los productores no deja de disminuir, con

unos costes de producción que se disparan, unos precios estancados y unas presiones normativas cada vez mayores. Por consiguiente, las asociaciones miembros de la ITGA, reclaman la protección de sus gobiernos para poder sobrevivir. La ITGA insta a las instituciones internacionales a respetar a los productores de tabaco, que son parte legítima a través de sus representantes, y a incluirlos en los debates mundiales en los que se decide su futuro.

INTERNACIONAL DE DE TABACO CELEBRA REGIONAL DE LAS AMÉRICAS

presidente de la Cámara del Tabaco de Salta, Esteban Amat Lacroix, y el secretario de Agricultura, Ganadería y Pesca de la Nación, Jorge Solmi, también se dirigieron a los delegados subrayando la importancia del cultivo de tabaco en Argentina.

Sr. José J. Aranda, destacó las medidas adoptadas por los productores argentinos para garantizar el sustento de los agricultores locales. Aranda subrayó la multitud de amenazas a las que se enfrenta el tabaco, incluidos los costes de producción y los problemas climáticos, así como la estigmatización del sector, que opera dentro de un mercado legal y cumple todas las normativas que se le imponen. El sector está decepcionado por la falta de avances en relación con el artículo 17 del CMCT y la representación de los cultivadores de tabaco en las reuniones de la COP.

Ivan Genov, director de Análisis de la Industria del Tabaco de la ITGA, expuso las principales amenazas y oportunidades para los productores. Entre ellas, los crecientes costes de producción, la incertidumbre política y económica, pero también el actual desequilibrio entre la oferta y la demanda de hoja de tabaco y las perspectivas de futuro de los productores diligentes.

Durante el Encuentro Regional se prestó especial atención al CMCT de la OMS y a su décima COP. Los productores de tabaco llaman la atención sobre la falta de transparencia y representación del sector. Desde la COP4 de 2010, las reuniones no se han celebrado en público, tal y como establece el propio reglamento del CMCT de la OMS.

La Sesión Abierta fue iniciada por el ministro de Producción y Desarrollo Sustentable, Dr. Martín de los Ríos, mientras que el presidente de la ITGA, José Aranda; el

Mercedes Vázquez, directora ejecutiva de la ITGA, reconoció el espíritu pionero de los productores de tabaco argentinos y su importante contribución a las economías locales. Entre las medidas específicas del país que hacen destacar a Argentina se encuentra el Fondo Especial del Tabaco, una entidad única que ha permitido a los productores de tabaco obtener un margen digno de su producción.

THE INTERNATIONAL TOBACCO 2023 AMERICAS REGIONAL MEETING DISCUSSES THE MAIN CHALLENGES

Tobacco growers’ representatives from five countries – Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic and USA gathered in Salta, Argentina for the International Tobacco Growers’ Association (ITGA) 2023 Americas Meeting. The event was attended by regional and international stakeholders and focused on the pressing challenges facing the sector. During the event, participants have flagged the

World Health Organization (WHO) Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) tenth Conference of the Parties (COP), taking place in Panama later this year, as a major concern.

The pressure on tobacco growers has seriously intensified. Farmers have been carrying an additional burden due they have to be on the fields to sustain the main pillars of the industry. At the same

time, growers’ viability is consistently going down, with skyrocketing costs of production, stagnated pricing, and ever-increasing regulatory pressures.

As a result, member associations of ITGA urge for their governments’ protection in order to survive. The ITGA urges international institutions to respect tobacco growers, who are a legitimate party through their representatives, and

initiated by the Minister of Production and Sustainable Development, Dr. Martin de los Rios, while the President of the ITGA, Jose J. Aranda; the President of the Camara del Tobaco de Salta, Esteban Amat Lacroix and the National Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Jorge Solmi, also addressed the delegates underlying the importance of tobacco growing in Argentina.

Jose J. Aranda, highlighted the steps Argentinian growers have taken to ensure the livelihoods of local farmers. Mr. Aranda underlined the multitude of threats facing tobacco, including cost of production and climate issues, and the stigmatization of the sector which operates within a legal market and complies with all the regulations imposed on it. The sector is disappointed with the lack of progress regarding FCTC’s Article 17 and the representation of tobacco growers at the COP meetings.

During the Open Session, Benjamin Dessart, Universal Leaf Vice President of External Affairs, presented an in-depth review of the latest legislative initiatives in the Americas Region. The event provided a comprehensive overview of the global tobacco market from different perspectives. Ivan Genov, ITGA Manager Tobacco Industry Analysis, outlined the major threats and opportunities for growers. These include the growing costs of production, political and economic uncertainty, but also the current disequilibrium of supply and demand for tobacco leaf and the prospects of diligent growers going into the future.

During the Closed Session of the Meeting, ITGA member associations shared the latest crop estimates and discussed the most urgent issues in their respective markets. Special attention was paid to the situation in the host country, Argentina, where out of control inflation is causing serious obstacles for growers. Argentinian associations also showcased a number of sustainability initiatives they have focused on to tackle social and environmental issues. Last, growers’ representatives from the Americas agreed that they will have to work in close cooperation in order to tackle the increasing challenges the sector is facing.

Construction is expected to finish by September 2023, and Star Agritech International intends to commence the operation of its new line shortly thereafter.
