The Engineering Department’s goal is to provide the City with professional engineering services that ensure long-range comprehensive planning, sound project design, quality construction management and maintenance of the City’s infrastructure. To that end, this Department offers technical engineering support to a variety of City departments, confirms sound engineering principles are applied, certifies ordinance requirements are met, prepares and executes Capital Improvement Projects, and issues permits to the public. In addition, the Department also administers the Sewer Lateral Program for the City, issues Commercial Trash Permits, and keeps track of all records related to projects for the City.

OUR GOAL IS TO PROVIDE THE CITY WITH PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING SERVICES THAT ENSURE LONG-RANGE COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING, SOUND PROJECT DESIGN, QUALITY CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
AND MAINTENANCE OF THE CITY’S INFRASTRUCTURE.
The Engineering Department is divided into three groups, the Project Management Group, the Development Group and the Construction Inspection Group. Each of these groups play a critical role in ensuring that City Projects, including capital projects as well as commercial and residential developments are designed and constructed properly and safely. Further, within each group are subgroups including the Traffic Management Group, the Plan Review Group, and the Stormwater Management Group The Engineering Department also aids with snow removal during winter weather events and remains ready to provide emergency response in the event of a significant disaster. In total, this Department has more than 600 years combined experience in their respective fields.

In 2022, the Engineering Department underwent many changes, including some reorganization. Several positions were created or retitled (Office Manager, Capital Improvements Manager, Project Management Supervisor, Construction Inspection Manager and Construction Inspection Supervisor) and subgroups within the Department were reorganized in order to increase efficacy and efficiency.
