MAPA 2022 QUALITY PAVING AWARD

The recently completed Mexico Road Phase 3 project has received the 2022 Outstanding Quality of Paving Award from the Missouri Asphalt Pavement Association which was presented to Pace Construction and the City of O’Fallon. This award is given to the best project in the state using hot mix asphalt for new construction or reconstruction of a city or municipal roadway. A well-deserved congratulations to Paul Talimonchuk and John Knudsen as they were instrumental in this project’s progress and success. Both Paul and John have put in long hours on this project as it included many unique and challenging features such as the pedestrian bridge at Woodlawn and intricate traffic control needs. Thank you, Paul and John, for your work on this project along Mexico Rd. between Woodlawn Ave. to Bryan Rd. It exemplifies how TEAM O’FALLON works and what great things can come from it.

Missouri Chapter APWA featured our poster collection in their May 2022 Newsletter.

Every year, APWA Nationals creates a poster to celebrate and commemorate National Public Works Week in America. This year’s poster is “Ready and Resilient” (far left).

The City of O’Fallon recently moved their Engineering Department within City Hall to a different part of the building and had many years of National Public Works Week posters to decorate their new space!

Traffic Management

The Traffic Group consists of the Senior Traffic Signal Technician and Assistant Director of Engineering The Traffic Management Group handles all of the traffic-related requests and signal/city-owned lights within the City of O’Fallon. Each year, City residents make requests and inquiries regarding various traffic and safety concerns, including traffic calming, signal and stop sign warrant studies, crosswalk installation requests, etc. All these items, and their required processes, are handled by this group. The Traffic Group works hand-in-hand with other departments to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents as they travel the roadways of the City.

Some select project highlights from 2022 include the following:

Traffic Signals and Streetlights

Each year, the Senior Traffic Signal Technician maintains, monitors, and repairs all of the City-owned traffic signals and streetlights, working in conjunction with MoDOT and St. Charles County to share resources where possible. This work helps to keep the traffic flowing safely throughout the City. In 2022, the following repairs were made:

• 329 total traffic signal repairs were made, including replacing deficient LED lights, etc.

• 69 streetlight repairs of lamps were made that are owned and operated by the City

• 47 traffic calming/no parking/stop sign/crosswalks/speed and volume traffic studies were conducted

• 404 utility locate requests were fulfilled

By accomplishing these tasks, the City’s infrastructure is maintained at a level that will serve the residents needs for their commutes throughout the City.

Traffic Management Center

As part of the City Hall Renovations, a Traffic Management Center for the City of O’Fallon was established. The center is helmed by the Senior Traffic Signal Technician, who can monitor traffic in various areas of the City simultaneously. The center works in conjunction with MoDOT and St. Charles County, sharing information on existing conditions and implementing protocols in case of emergencies.
