STORMWATER MANAGEMENT
In July 2022, the City of O’Fallon experienced a severe storm event. The rainfall from this event reached approximately 11” over a period of six (6) hours. As a result of this historic level of precipitation (the storm was considered to be a 1000-year rainfall event) several creeks and streams surged in the area, which caused major flooding for more than 200 residential/commercial properties.
Once the event concluded and the waters subsided, City of O’Fallon Staff went into action. Teams of City Staff members went out to assist residents and neighborhoods with cleanup, traffic management, assessment of homes/structures, and anything else to which we could lend a hand. Dumpsters were allocated, delivered, and picked up free of charge to assist residents with debris clean up. Homes and structures were assessed for living viability as quickly as possible.
After the Governor of Missouri declared a State of Emergency following the event, Stormwater Management worked with FEMA and compiled a list for the impacted areas, homes and businesses and documented the storm event. FEMA Staff stayed onsite at City Hall for several months, working to assist residents and local businesses with recovery efforts and funding.
