WATER MORATORIUM UPDATE FLEXIBLE, EXTENDED, NO-INTEREST PAYMENT PLANS AVAILABLE
On April 2, 2020, California Governor Newsom signed an executive order restricting water shutoffs to homes and small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Val l ej o W ee kl y
The order protected consumers who could not pay for their water service during the pandemic, relieving them of fear that their water service may be shut off for non-payment. Although customers were protected from shutoffs during this time, this did not mean that the water delivered to customers could be provided free of charge. Costs to treat, monitor, and deliver drinking water to customers remained unchanged. For those customers not paying their bills, the unpaid amounts accumulated (interest-free) and were tracked by the Water Billing team.
10
The Governor’s water billing moratorium came to an end on December 31, 2021. With the lifting of the state's moratorium so close to the holidays, and then the surge of the Omicron variant, the Vallejo Water Department opted to
continue the water billing moratorium through March 31, 2022, in order to continue to provide a safety net to customers. With Vallejo’s billing moratorium ending on March 31, all unpaid water charges that were delinquent on, and accrued, since April 2020 will be due. We understand this can be a stressful transition for our customers, and we are here to help. We offer flexible and extended no-interest payment plans to avoid service shutoff. Delinquency notices for past-due amounts will begin to be mailed to water customers in April 2022. TO ARRANGE FOR YOUR PAYMENT PLAN: • • •
Email vallejowaterbilling@cityofvallejo.net Call (707) 648-4345 Visit: cityofvallejo.net/waterbilling
In addition to payment plan options, the Water Rate Assistance Program (WRAP) is available to qualified customers. To learn more about WRAP visit myvallejo.com/wrap.

Volunteering Is a Family Affair in Vallejo By Shelee Loughmiller A group of youngsters, aged six and older, and their parents volunteered to create a set of beautiful mosaic planters on the waterfront back in 2010. The idea to beautify the waterfront walking path with artfully decorated cement planters was new and exciting for these bunch of kids. Ultimately, seven planters were decorated with their parents’ support! These planters are now a fixture and can be viewed as you walk along the south end of the Waterfront Park near the Ferry Building.
Val l ej o W ee kl y
Fast forward to Saturday, March 26, 2022 and the original group of kids are now college-aged! The Beautification Commission hosted the 3rd Annual Beautify Vallejo Day and one of the projects was to show some love to the plants. Supported by the Community Tool Trailer and staff driver Emmanuel, the activities on this cool morning got off to a great start!
12
Thanks to the vision of Commissioner Rick Weyrich, we can enjoy the beautiful planters once again!
Cal Maritime cadets Nathan, Skyler, Jun, Kyle, Michael, and Vincent did a marvelous job clearing away old weeds and bark. Under the guidance of Commissioner Weyrich, the cadets learned how to trim the Sago Palms that were salvageable. As Commissioner Weyrich weed-whacked around the planters, the cadets replaced the old soil with rich new soil, fertilizer, and compost donated by Recology. Subsequently, they carefully planted 3 new Sago Palms before adding the final touch of red bark that helps retain moisture and conserve water. Solano County Supervisor Monica Brown joined Sgt. Wanzie, Pam Gallardo, David Gomez, Zariah Hutton from the Vallejo Code Enforcement team, as well as several families who brought their youngsters out to share the joy of caring for their city. Commissioners Slater, Reyes, and Tennyson set up registration and provided lunch for the volunteers on the other end of the waterfront pathway in Barbara Kondylis Waterfront Park. We would like to thank all the participants who “Gave Litter the Boot” along Mare Island Way! 12 years later the Love of Community is Shining Bright!
