Plan Ahead - Don't Drink and Drive this Holiday Season!
Protect your own life and the lives of those around you by planning ahead this Thanksgiving.
Millions of people will be traveling to visit friends and family over the holiday, and we want to encourage everyone to celebrate safely and have a holiday game plan that includes a designated sober driver.
Drunk driving is a problem on our nation's
roads every day, but it's more prevalent during the holidays. During the 2016-2020 December months, more than 4,400 people were killed in drunk-driving-related crashes.
It's also important to remember that a "DUI Doesn't Just Mean Booze." Prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and marijuana can also impair your ability to make sound decisions and slow your reaction times, especially in combination with alcohol and other drugs.
Stay safe, and have a Happy Thanksgiving, Vallejo!
VFD Holiday Season Cooking Tips!
Did you know that Thanksgiving Day cooking is the leading date for home cooking fires?
A cooking fire is three times more likely to happen on Thanksgiving Day than any other day of the year!
The Vallejo Fire Department encourages you to follow these tips to keep you and your family safe this holiday:
• Stay alert while cooking - don't leave food unattended on the stove, in the oven, in the
fryer, or on the barbecue
• Don't leave anything flammable near a heat source, such as oven mitts near an open flame
• If you are using a turkey fryer, take the necessary precautions to avoid accidents that can be harmful or even fatal
• Use the intended tools for getting the job done - think oven mitts, aprons, proper cooking, and serving utensils
As much as we love to meet our community members, let's meet under good circumstances! Stay safe and Happy Thanksgiving, Vallejo!
VPD Cracks down on Sideshows
On 11/19/22 at approximately 11:00 PM, VPD officers were dispatched to an active sideshow in the area of Lemon Street and Sonoma Blvd.
Officers arrived at the scene and observed approximately 300 vehicles actively participating in a sideshow. While the officers were breaking up the sideshow, a black Nissan 350Z and a Black Chevrolet Tahoe passed our patrol units traveling at an extremely high rate of speed after spectating the sideshow.
VPD officers conducted traffic stops on the Chevrolet and Nissan. The Nissan immediately pulled over, and the driver was cited with a misdemeanor (spectating in a sideshow) arrest and released at the scene. The Nissan was impounded on a 30-day hold.
Unfortunately, the Chevrolet led the police on a pursuit that lasted approximately a mile long.
VPD’s fast actions slowed down this highspeeder!
The Chevrolet eventually pulled over, and the driver was taken into custody. The driver of the Chevrolet was discovered to be an unlicensed juvenile. The Juvenile was cited with a misdemeanor arrest and released to their parent. The Chevrolet was impounded on a 30day hold.
On 11/20/22 at approximately 10:10 PM, VPD Officers responded to a large sideshow (approximately 100 participants) at Sonoma Blvd and Lemon Street. While VPD officers were breaking up the sideshow, a white Chrysler 300, which was observed spectating the sideshow, cut one of our officers off while driving at a high rate of speed.
Our officers attempted to make an enforcement stop on the Chrysler but the driver failed to stop. This pursuit lasted approximately 5 miles before it concluded due to the driver running over a deployed Spike Strip.
Even though the driver’s tires were deflated, he continued to attempt to flee in his vehicle until the sparks from his bare rims caught on fire. Eventually, the Chrysler was engulfed with flames and the driver and his only passenger fled on foot.
Our officers chased the two suspects and caught them before they could get away. Both occupants of the Chrysler were arrested and booked into the Solano County Jail.
The charred Chrysler, which was registered to the driver’s mother, was towed from the scene and placed on a 30-day hold.
