A sample of some of the memorable aspects of Fellowship in our club. Everlasting friendships and bonds are formed here at Circle K at University California, Riverside.

8

HELLO MY FELLOW CIRCLE K FRIENDS!

My name is Maddie and I am your Spirit and Unity Chair for this term! You might be wondering, “Jeez, what the heck does a Spirit and Unity Chair do?” Well I’ll tell ya! My job is to foster fellowship and spirit within the club. I do this by hosting socials, icebreakers, demonstrating our club cheers, and much more. Overall, I do my best to make everyone’s experience with this club even more fun! So what is fellowship to this club? Fellowship, along with leadership and service, is one of the three tenents that Circle K International proudly promotes to its members. I believe it is the fellowship aspect of this club that make member experiences unforgettable. During service or club events, lifetime bonds are created. Forming these bonds can help you learn more about yourself and those around you. This club is always encouraging and welcoming all members to be themselves, including their passions, fears, goals, quirks, and all! The following articles, written by the lovely members of this club, will include their experiences and personal reflections on the fellowship events that were held. So don’t just take my word for it, read all about how fellowship impacted the members of this club! Peace out Circle K scouts, Spirit and Unity Chair Maddie Villanueva

October 9th: Fall Welcome Week Horchata, Friends, & S’mores Annika Liu 4th Year - Music and Culture

To start off with Circle K at UCR’s first social event, Social & Spirit chair Maddie Villanueva hosted a Horchata, S’mores, and Friends social. The event first started off with S’more making while members, old and new, arrived at the Glen Mor Pool. Then, the event kicked off with many fun and innovative ice breakers to ease new members into the Circle K dynamic. Lastly, we had horchata while everyone socialized and had an amazing time. It was especially fun to play Charades with new members and to see everyone’s reactions to each other’s gestures. I’d highly recommend all members and to invite new members to join us in have a great event, and enjoy amazing snacks.

Fall Welcome Week is a wonderful oppurtunity for new members to join and get to know more about Circle K at University of California, Riverside!

On the Mentor System Anjo Armendi 3rd Year - Biochem

In UCR Circle K, the club hosts series of socials to attract new members. Through horchata and smores to series of games, these socials are meant to build new friendships and further our tenant of fellowship. In addition, Circle K at UCR hosts these events to help newer members take part in the mentorship program here at UCR! Mentors, known as bigs, “pick up littles, newer members, to teach / mentor. New and returning members take part in many social events to meet the applicant pool. After rigrious application system, the Membership Development Education Chair chooses which big should be paired with which little given on their similarities within their application. Ultimately, through the mentorship program, new members learn how to become more effective leaders, serve in many projects, and most importantly, build long lasting friendships.

October 13th: Big & Little Social #1 Jessica Lee 2nd Year - Biochem

I attended the first Big & Little Social that was hosted in Chung Hall back in the first few weeks of the quarter! Potential littles, bigs and spectators all participated in many different icebreakers hosted by our MD&E Chair, Annika Liu, that allowed us to meet everyone in creative different ways. One of the icebreakers had us throwing paper airplanes across the room and we had to pick up a random airplane and introduce ourselves to each other Overall, this social was a lot of fun because I was able to meet many members that had just joined the club. Additionally, the first Big & Little social will always be very memorable for me because that is where I met my amazing Little: Lluvia Devora!

11

October 13th: Big & Little Social #1 Jamie Ly 1st Year - Pre-Business

Near the end of our Welcome Week, I attended my very first event: our first Big and Little Social of the year! Because I was new to the club and didn’t know anyone there, I was really nervous when I walked through the doors. Everyone got a nametag in the beginning, color coded to whether they were a potential big, little, or just a spectator. We were all split up into groups to play various icebreakers, giving us time to get to know many different people within the club. The social was casual and simple and in hindsight, I’m grateful that it was my first CKI event. I didn’t know if this club was one that I wanted to invest all of my time into, but after meeting all the extremely welcoming and friendly people, I decided to stick around. And so far, it has been the best decision yet.

12

October 23rd : Big & Little Social #2 Kimse Sok 2nd Year - History The social, in my best comparison, was like really quick speed dating because there was a limited amount of time and so many of my conversations never really got a change to blossom. However, I did get a better knowledge of everyone who wanted to be a big and that chance to talk to everyone was probably the thing I enjoyed most about this event. I got to meet a lot of new people and get a chance to talk to people who I only kind of knew from small amount of interactions I had with last year. I think the biggest thing I took out of this social was that everyone in the club is really accepting and willing to talk with new members. As in, everyone one was very engaged when they were talking to me and they made sure that I felt welcomed into the club. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and hopefully next year I can go to these big and little socials but be in the big’s position!

October 23rd: Big & Little Social #2 Hannah Abellana 1st Year - Biology

October 23rd : Big & Little Social #3 Sabrine Hossain 2nd Year - Biochem

On this spooky October night, I attended the Third Big and Little Social at the Glenmor Pool. It was an opportunity for potential Big and Littles to bond and get to know each other more.

I attended the 3rd Big/Little social as a potential little. As a newer member, I was really excited to get to know more people in the club and find someone who could be my Big. (Shoutout to Hogun!)

For the first half of the social the Bigs stood in a circle and the Littles stood in a circle inside the Big’s circle. It was similar to speed dating, so we got to chat with different potential Bigs for an amount of time then we had to switch. We did this until we got back to the person we first chatted with. Then, for the second half of the social, we got to eat hot Cheetos and fruit snacks while socializing with all the members of the club. Overall, my experience at this social was a good one because I got to know my Big June Park more. Furthermore, I got to make new friends, find people who declare the same major as me, and have fun away from my hectic school day.

We all met at Glen Mor Pool (I wore a swimsuit because I thought it was a pool party) and played ice breaker games and ate snacks while jamming out to some songs (Red Velvet yessss). Everyone was so nice and welcoming and I would have been glad to be anyone’s little. If you aren’t already a part of the Big/Little program, make sure you apply next time applications open! It’s a great way to introduce yourself to the rest of the club and make a long lasting friendship for years to come.

Annie Zhou 3 Year - Psychology rd

This year’s fall install was quite different from last year. Last year, I attended the event as a little and I was super nervous before the reveal. I didn’t really know what to react and I was afraid that we don’t get along with each other. However, I was grateful that I’ve applied because fall install was one of my favorite memories in Circle K. Compared to this year’s fall instal, I think I was feeling more excited than nervous because I already knew who I got as little. As always, we went to John’s Incredible pizza for fall install because they have food and arcade all in one place. Another fun part about fall install is that you will find out which family you are placed in. Family competition during fall install is the time where everyone screams their heart out and gets incredibly competitive. I remember I had a sore throat after install, but no regrets. Furthermore, another reason why fall install has been one of my favorite memories in Circle K was because I get to dress up a little but not too crazy. It’s an opportunity to take cute pictures with friends and see your line grows. Each time I go to fall install, it brings me new feelings. Seeing your family line grows as well as seeing yourself grow from a freshman to a sophomore to now a junior, it just reminds me of how time flies and these happy moments are valuable. Go to fall instal! It’s fun!

14

Gabrielle Sam Banaña 3rd Year - Psychology

On November 9, 2018, I attended Fall Installation, which was essentially a welcoming ceremony into Circle K for new members and returning ones as well. Fall Install was held at John’s Incredible Pizza where I got to enjoy a lot of pizza, engage in the program, and play arcade games with fellow club members. I loved meeting new people and learning everyone’s names. The main highlight of the evening for me was joining my family the Acrobatters and meeting my mentor, or Big, Emily! It was so much fun watching all the family’s chants; this really showed me the group’s positive energy. What caught my attention was the fact that alumni came to this event and that just shows what kind of positive impact the organization can have on its members, present or past. Overall, Fall Install helped set the tone for my involvement with Circle K and look forward working with all the members dedicated to service!

During Fall Install, CIrcle K at UCR has “Fall Install” blanket that gets dropped to reveal little and big pairings! Also, bigs have traditionally gift their littles with snacks and goodies!

Fall Install is overseen and planned mainly by the Membership Development Education Chair, Annika Liu. Congratulations Annika for hosting a wonderful Fall Install!

15

As a long standing tradition here at Circle K at UCR, members, bigs, mentor newer members, littles, to help facilitate and develop long lasting bonds in and out of Circle K. Through this system of mentorship, family lines are produced where some are even traceable to potentially a decade prior! The mentorship program is one of the many highlights perfectly seen during Fall Installation!

From an arcade to a bumper cars, Fall Install has many exciting attraction. However, the biggest highlight of the night for many new and returning members is finding their big and little pairings!

Juliana Ramirez - 1st Year Sociology

Circle K International is a distinguished club at the University of California, Riverside. This club invites many of its students to participate in changing the world through one service at a time. This past Fall quarter of 2018, Circle K introduced many of it new and older member through a fun night at John’s Incredible Pizza, or otherwise known as Fall Installment. During Fall Installment, old and new member enjoyed a nice meal while bonding with each other. After our lovely meal, the council members announced all of the new members and took cute pictures after. The event was closer to the end and it was time for Big and Little reveal: the new members found out who their older member big is. Not only that, but all of the members got a tiny envelope that excitedly revealed what family they got. After all the bonding with their families, big and littles had the awesome opportunity to go play fun games and enjoy the rest of the night. Fall Installment was a very welcoming experience for old and new members, and we are really excited for the next one.

16

Here at Circle K at UCR, our large member base is organized into large offical families overseen by the Membership Devolopement Education Chair. Families are individually lead by two or more family heads. These famiy heads host a variety of events and socials for their families to help new members break out of their shells. We have four great families! We have Peanutties, Cirque du So Lads, the Greatest Showmints, and the Acro Batters! In the celebration of Fall Install, we also get a chance to revisit wonderful past memories! During Fall Install, previous family heads meet one of the former MDE Chairs to celebrate another great year. The Family System is an irreplaceable social culture here in UCR that helps build confidence and leadership skills. In fact, manty family heads have become executive and appointed board members as well!

At the end of Fall Install, many members gathered together to work as a team to win as many dino toys. After pooling credits together, many members were able to win a fairly large number of dino toys to share with friends, their respective bigs and or littles.

Service for Circle K at UCR is quite phenomenal. We do a lot of different impact on various levels from small tabletop toys that will be donated to dogs at a local pet shelter to large impact items such as planting trees along the streets of Riverside. We vary our service projects in order to make a difference in the area as much as we can. Weekly, we achieve 15-20 members at a service project on the weekend accumulating somewhere between 30-75 hours depending on the service. The impact we have made on the community has assisted us in being well known and a reputable community service/volunteer provider for all of Riverside County. This is also seen in the accolades given by UCR and CNH District per year. On any given weekend, our members are out doing service related to the DSI of Helping Those With Disabilities, the ISI of Focusing on the Future: Children, or local initiatives put on by the City of Riverside focusing on cultural education, homeless awareness, and the furthering of arts & crafts and sciences importance in the community. Members enjoy the ability to interact and talk to community people and figures about why they love service and how their impact helps further the lives of others. Manual labor is no big deal for members of CKI who know that in the end, they are furthering causes for the greater good. Service brings the club together as a one big family - often with treats after! Working hard does equate to playing hard - and our members know how to do just that. October 6th Old Spanish Trail

Members making Pediatric Trauma Dolls to help doctors find the location of pain in children.

Rain or shine, members of Circle K at UCR are driven to make a difference in our community.

Service does not always have to be work and tiresome! Service here at Circle K at UCR should be fun and exciting! This halloween, members got a chance to dress up and donate candy and goodies to families in the Riverside area!

20

Vanessa Kumnoonsate 4th Year - Psychology For this event, we helped set up for the Old Spanish Trail Day by pitching easy-ups for the different booths, handing out supplies to the volunteers, and decorating each booth for the visitors that came. Visitors during the event were encouraged to walk along the ‘old Spanish trail’, which was a circle path with activity booths set up along the edge. We helped run some of the activities there such as making potholders and making bookmarks they could take home! I helped out with the bookmarks with Sabrina Yang and it was a pretty fun event! There were quite a bit of families at the event so hopefully they had a good time because I know I did! It was one of the smaller events, but I recommend going the next time it comes around!

October 13th Sycamore Highlands Park Painting Amy Kobayashi 2 Year - Lingustics nd

On Saturday October 13, there was the Sycamore Highlands Park Painting service. We helped the organization, Love Riverside, and their vision is to inspire generosity and bring love to the city of Riverside. We were supposed to help paint wrought iron fences at the park, however, due to unfortunate weather circumstances, we could not paint. We all helped pick up trash instead, but we ended early, so for the rest of the time, we went back to UCR and did tabletop services instead. We did a variety of things like help make bookmarks, encouragement notes, PTP dolls, and K Rock decorations. Although we couldn’t actually paint at the park, I still had fun spending time with my fellow club members!

October 20th My Play Club Halloween Spooktacular: Kelly Lien 3 Year - Sustainability Studies rd

The My Play Club Halloween Spooktacular is an annual event hosted by The Arc aimed to provide children with special needs a fun-filled Halloween experience. The service project itself was a very wholesome experience. We packed lunches that were distributed to the attendees and took part in managing different activities. We were split into different game booths and the arts and crafts table. It was really nice way to interact with the kids, teaching them how to play the games and giving them their prizes. The kids even had a costume parade which was really cute to see! Overall, it was an event that I would definitely participate in again!

21

October 27th Fright Fights by Raincross Boxing Academy Samantha Ratanavipupong 4th Year - Sociology On October 27, 2018, members of Circle K attended Fright Fights held at John W. North High School. Fright Fights is an event that is held annually by the Raincross Boxing academy as amateur boxers compete in boxing matches. There were also outside games for young children to play such as bean bag toss, three legged races, and more. Some Circle K members were assigned game booths to run, while some were assigned inside the high school gym to help with the boxing matches. Members that were assigned to help with the boxing matches cleaned up boxing gloves and rotated them for boxers to use. The event also offered free haircuts which some of our members receive! Fright Fights was a memorable experience and if Circle K is given the opportunity to attend next year, you should definitely check it out!

22

October 31st Trunk or Treat Crisiel Bustos 2 Year - English nd

My name is Crisiel Bustos and one of the past services I’ve been to was on Halloween. Trunk-or-Treat is an event where it provides a safe trick or treating experience for kids around the UCR community. Organizations on campus help to pass out candy to the kids from the trunk of their car. There is free food and some games, it is an all ages event. Specifically for Circle K, there was a workshop to make Halloween grams and we passed it out with candy. It was cute how the kids got excited with whatever they got, a wholesome event! We had difficulty with the ratio of cards with candy since we ran out of candy halfway through the first shift, but we made do with the cards and gave them out still since there were other organizations with candy as well. I wish I was able to do both shifts to see the progression of the event, but it is a nice event to see people having fun trick-or-treating and even dressing up for the occasion! When it comes around, make sure to check it out next year!

December 1st SERVICE INSOMNIA Nathan Wong 4 Year - Business Administration, Accounting th

Quarterly, Circle K at UCR hosts a Service Insomnia. At this event, we attempt to stay awake for 24 hours while doing service and other activities with other members of the club. This Fall, we had our Service Insomnia; Season of Service. At this event, members started bright and early the Adopt-A-Street service at 7am. They were able to help clean up our adopted block in Riverside. Then, they had a choice of helping out the R’Garden or the Arlington Business Partnership’s Winter Wonderland Festival! Members at the R’Garden weeded, planted, uprooted, and helped garden the area to get it ready for the oncoming rain. Members at the Winter Wonderland Shift 1 assisted in setting up tents and chairs for the events as well as the kids craft area. Then, all members attended Winter Wonderland Shift 2 where they were assigned different game booths to run for the children to play and also help clean up and wrap up the event as a whole. Afterwards, members were able to chill at Ono’s Hawaiian BBQ and raise money for our District Fundraising Initiatives. To round out the night for 8am, members participated in Santa’s Service Workshop where they were able to continuously do service tabletops until 8am!Overall, this signature event of the quarter always brings joy to members who are doing service for a good cause!

Circle K at UCR has one, if not, the largests club level boards internationally. Boasting with 18 board members, our leadership structure allows rapid devolopements and produce massive projects such as the annual Kids Rock Benefit concert. Despite the many successes the leadership team in Circle K may achieve, that many successes within Circle K are led by the members themselves. As one of our tenants, leadership greatly defines the members we serve. Regardless of position or expeirence, Circle K at UCR cultivates experience in many ways. From chairing events and projects, to hosting one’s workshop, or even becoming a board member in our ever so massive club, Circle K at UCR provides so many wonderful resources for our members to grow and learn from. With it, many members are able to help propel the many and massive projects we host every year. Newsletter Chair Anjo Brian Armendi

What is it like to be the Secretary for Circle K at UCR ? Erica Apostolos 4th Year - Mathematics

The current family heads of the 2018 to 2019 term. There are four families in total that oversee the development of all members. All families are overseen by the MD&E chair, Annika Liu.

As Secretary my main duties are to take minutes at every meeting and keep track of every members hours (service, leadership, and fellowship) from every single event. I do this by collecting Club Event Report Forms (CERFs) from event chairs and inputting them into our Monthly Report Form (MRF). At the end of every month I send this to the District to keep them updated on our club’s hours. I also input individual members hours into the Master Record Sheet (MRS). This helps members track their own hours and their Member Recognition Program (MRP) status. You can check yours at:

tinyurl.com/CERF-and-MRF1819

The current leadership team of Circle K at University California, Riverside. There are 18 board members, 5 of which are elected executives while the 13 officers are appointed through a rigrious application and interview system.

26

What is like to be a Kids Rock Benefit Chair? Kaylie Troung 2nd Year - Bioenginneering As the Kids Rock Benefit Concert Chair, I am in charge of the entire process of organizing the Kids Rock Concert, which includes getting performers, raising funds through TV tapings and fundraisers, budgeting for the event, and more! Although it may seem like a lot of work, I get help from my subcommittee chairs for Decorations, Games, and Sponsorship and Advertising. My board also helps me whenever I really need it. People always ask how I get performers and sponsors because it seems complicated, but it really isn’t! Most of the time, I simply email performers and businesses I’m interested in working with. You must be persistent to get responses, it’s worth it in the end just so K-Rock can be even better. For K-Rock, it is important to be persistent and do everything in a timely manner so everything is the best it can be!

An important aspect of leadership found in UCR is the ability to work and adapt to different teams! As the home club to the Desert Oasis LtG, Mark Fernandez, Circle K at UCR works diligently to uphold both divisional and district standards.

At Circle K, the highest leadership does not always end with appointed or executive board! Many officers such as Calvin Chau become part of the DIstrict Board and head their own committees!

27

Circle K at UCR plays an important role as a example club within our District. With our large membership base and fundrasing achievements, UCR has reached outstanding levels of recognitions throughout our District and internationally. In fact, our success is further seen in our attendance and preformances in District level events such as Fall Trainning Confrence or Crazy Kompetition for Infants South! Overall, the Division and the District provide wonderful oppurtunities. Beyond the scope in Riverside, there is so many great memories and an amazing group of people that can truly expand one’s experience in Circle K.

October 20th District Activity: Crazy Kompetition for Infants South

October 20th Divisional Activity: Raising Cane’s Fundraiser

Angelica Ubungen, 3 Year - Business Administration, Marketing

Sabrina Yang, 3 Year - Business Administration, Finance

On Saturday October 20th I attended the Crazy Kompetition for Infants South 2018! This is one of the first district events of the term and it’s also a huge fundraiser for the Pediatric Trauma Program. During Crazy Komp, we all formed teams to compete against other clubs and divisions in fun relay games! We got to meet new people, learn about PTP, and bond with our division.

After a day of running and cheering at CKI South, we all headed to Raising Canes to support our division’s fundraiser! FUN FACT: If you didn’t already know, our division, Desert Oasis, considers Canes a staple of Weekend of Awesomeness Weekend trips to Las Vegas. It was a great event for all of our new members to be able to get to know members from our sister school University of Nevada, Las Vegas. It was a great experience to see the new members from across the border get to know each other.

rd

This event was very special to me because I got to take part in planning it along with my other fellow committee members in the Finance and Fundraising Committee! We spent months brainstorming games and handling logistics and I’m super happy with how it turned out. This was definitely my favorite Crazy Komp, and if you didn’t go this year, I highly recommend you go next year!

rd

I hope to see that the future members of Circle K will continue to have socials and moments like these so that we’re able to show that friendships can be made wherever you go and stay with you even if you’re over a bit over 200 miles away by car ride.

Krischin Layon, 1st Year -Computer Science w/ Business Applications On November, I went with a handful of members to attend 2018’s Fall Training Conference, hosted at Old Oak Ranch in Sonora, California. Being entirely new to Circle K and anything Kiwanis-related, I found the experience to be simultaneously overwhelming and exciting. There were plenty of moments where I would cluelessly follow our club around—confused as to what was going on. Fortunately, the fellow members were friendly enough to guide and assist me in understanding the schedule and flow. The program for the conference consisted of a variety of group activities as well as many student-led workshops covering a multitude of topics. Throughout these events, I made plenty of new friends and got closer to the members in the club. Additionally, I also learned about each Division in CNH as well as some of the chants for Desert Oasis. Knowing details such as these made me feel much more connected to Kiwanis culture as a whole. One part of the conference that I really enjoyed were the campfire skits hosted near the end of the second night as well as the build up leading towards UCR’s skit in the program. Although I had an extremely small role in our skit, I still felt like a part of the group as I watched everyone practice before the performance and I really enjoyed the collective feeling that we felt after we performed. Overall, the experience was really fun despite being entirely new to Circle K and Kiwanis as a whole. I would definitely go again next year!

Jamie Ly, 1st Year - Pre-Business

Fall Training Conference 2018 or FTC was an event that I was definitely interested in but only decided to go after encouragement and support from my club officers. Being relatively new to Circle K and not having been to any district events before, I really didn’t know what to expect. When I arrived at FTC after the long drive, I was a bit nervous but also buzzing with excitement; I got to spend time with my close friends from high school and meet a ton of new people that were just as friendly and passionate as everyone in my home club. There wasn’t a moment that I felt uncomfortable or lonely. The days were filled with fun activities and workshops but thankfully not to the point of total exhaustion.I was surprised to find out that members from my home club were hosts for workshops; I made sure to go and support them.

Every FTC, the Spirit and Unity Chair develops a campfire skit! This year, we were able preform our skit and win the Oustanding Campre Skit!

Every FTC, UCR CKI competetes to raise the most money in the CNH CKI District at FTC. This year, UCR raised the most funds for the Kiwanis Family House!

It was interesting to be able to see them in a professional situation, taking a leadership initiative. I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel a sense of pride. The icebreakers and fun activities gave me time to sizzle down and relax a little bit while getting to know others around me. The induction ceremony really made me feel connected to the organization and I walked away from it with a motivation to continue serving. If I took anything away from my first FTC, it would be the bond I created with my fellow club members and understanding just how much effort and sentiment was put into the event and into Circle K as an organization. It really made me feel like every action was meaningful and that there are a lot of really good people in the world. I’m sure it’ll be one of those moments I will remember vividly for years.

November 17th, Divisional Activity: November DAD

Samantha Del Castillo 2nd Year - Business Administration

Tina Ta 2nd Year - Applied Mathematics

On Saturday November 17th I got to go to November DAD at Hunter Park! We did many activities dealing with the three tenants: fellowship leadership and service. For an ice breaker I got to lead other Kiwanis family members across a floor of “lava. This provided a great opportunity to bond with different members. Not only that but we made PTP dolls in the park and got to talk to local Kiwanis. It was a breath of fresh air. However, that was not all we got lunch provided. All of us got to eat lunch outdoors which was really nice. To add to our bonding experience, we did a scavenger huntat the park. Overall, November DAD was amazing and I would definitely go again.

November Day of Awesomeness Day or DAD is a day in which Circle K members and Kiwanis members got together in order to bond and strengthen our leadership skills through various activities meant to build our teamwork and ability to communicate. It happened at Hunter Park in Riverside, California on November 17, 2018. We did a tabletop service that involved making PTP dolls which guides doctors in diagnosing kids. We also played a few bonding activities that involved heavy teamwork and efficient communication among team members. Lastly, we participated in the K-Rock Scavenger Hunt. Lunch was provided for those who came. Personally, I enjoyed it a lot and I was so happy to be able to spend time with my fellow CKI members. My favorite part of the event was being able to brush up on my sewing skills while making the PTP dolls. It was fun being able to learn how to sew again. Overall, I recommend for you to come out to this event next November!

November 17th - UCSD: Masquerade Ball Hannah Abellana , 1st Year Biology Hello! On the night of November 17th, members of UCR’s Circle K club and I drove down to San Diego to attend the Masquerade Ball hosted by UC San Diego’s Circle K club. It was a fun night of dressing up, dancing to great music, and exploring the various exhibits provided by the Exploratorium. The event was a nice evening, where members of both Circle K clubs met and mingled. There was also a casino room the held many poker games in addition to a photo booth where we could make cute and silly keepsakes we would take home the next day to remember this event. Personally, I enjoyed learning about the cool science experiments that were showcased. My favorite display was the tunnel of lights because my friends and I took many photos, which turned out very aesthetic. After the event had ended, UCSD’s club was generous to host housing for those who lived farther away. Some went straight to housing while others like my friends and I went to grab a bite to eat. At this time we continued to get to know students from UC San Diego and further grow a bond with them. Reflecting over the event, I am so glad I decided to go because as a first year it is good to branch out and meet new people. And it is even better to make friendships with students that go to a different schools. Aside from making growing new bonds, I am happy that my fellow Circle K members and I could support UC San Diego’s clubs and fundraisers. It is sort of like a win-win because we can raise money while also having a good time with those around us and take a mini break from the stress of school. In the future, I look forward to attending another event similar to this in hopes of raising more money and meeting more students. This year, M Ball was hosted inside Balboa Museum in La Jolla! Members were able to take part in various activities and mingle with people all across the district for this event! As a formal event, it was great oppurtunity for many to dress to impress! Masquerade Ball is a great oppurtunity that allows members from differents clubs to bond and make great memories!

Gus has become an important and reliable member. Gus attends as many services as he can while helping propel others around him. Like his new found nickname in our club, “Brother Gus”, we can always depend on him.

Circle K at UCR is coordinated by a massive board of 18 board members. 5 Executive Board Members and 13 Appointed Board Members. Each officer has a different duty / role that must complete in a given time. For example, as the Newsletter Chair, I have to make a quarterly newsletter to summarize the projects that our club had! Aside from the given roles, the appointed board members also serve an the face of the club and help the executive board make decisions! Despite the many duties an appointed board member carries, all of our activities are overseen by the executive board. Like the appointed board, the executive board carries on critical tasks such as recording information, managing the club budget, or finding service events. Despite the differences of authority and experiences one may encounter on board, don’t let that factor intimdate you! Although the board may have a gigantic number of individual, the board strives to create a fun and collaborative environment for all officers to enjoy.
