A Message from yo ur

Newsletter Editor What’s up Scots! Happy March! I can’t believe February flew by so fast. Even though it was a short month, I was so amazed to see all of you guys at so many of our events. We even had our Valentines bake sale fundraiser where we were able to meet and pass our goal. None of this would be possible without your love and support! I have seen so many of you guys grown and I am so grateful to have so many people run for our 2021-2022 board! This was the most number of candidates we have ever had in Carlmont Key Club history. Now, committee chairs and member applications are out and are due on March 10th at 6:00pm. I hope to see many of you apply and grow your leadership skills and Key Club knowledge. This month we have 9 social/service events for you guys to attend! We even are offering an in-person event at the Second Harvest Food Bank. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Anyways, I am super excited to start the new term and get to know you more! Enjoy the March Newsletter :)

Stay Safe,

Claire Tseng

A M e s sage f r o m y o u r

President Hey Carlmont Key Clubbers! I hope you’ve had a great February! This month seemed to fly by and I can’t believe we only have one month of the term left :0. Although the term is coming to a close, let’s end this term strongly! We have many upcoming events to attend and let’s work hard to keep our top position on the banana points leaderboard! Also make sure to look out for all of our closing events of the term like the division’s end of term banquet and district convention (DCON). There will be club and member recognition as well as send-offs for past officers! These events are probably one of my favorites and you really get to witness the impact and community of key club. Side note, I’d like to thank all of you guys for supporting and donating to PTP through our Valentine self-care treats. We’re super appreciative of how much support we got for the fundraiser (we raised $225 for PTP!) And also special thanks to the service projects committee for baking the amazing cookies <3 And as always, it’s never too late to join key club, so to any interested members, definitely feel free to join us and members feel free to bring your friends into the club! I’m so so proud of everyone and I couldn’t have asked for a better term to end my key club journey with. U GUYS ARE AMAZING.

I hope to see you all soon,

Ashley Zheng

Valentine Gram Fundraiser $225 funds raised Marrisa Chow Throughout the first two weeks of February, the service project committee took orders for a bake sale fundraiser. In line with Valentine’s Day, they were self-care packages with valentine gram sugar cookies, chocolate kisses, and Rice Krispie treats. All proceeds were donated to the Pediatric Trauma Program, whose mission is to develop local projects that diminish trauma-related deaths in children. All in all, I thought this was an extremely rewarding event. It was fun and therapeutic to bake, and it went towards a good cause. I have it on good authority they tasted great too :)

One World Valentines Day Cards

Jocelyn Owen Sophomore With Valentine’s Day coming up, Carlmont Key Club and Carlmont’s One World Club hosted the Valentine’s Day card event. At the event, participants created valentine’s cards that would go to the Edgewood San Francisco Food Bank and staff at San Mateo Medical Center. We decorated our valentine’s cards however we wanted and included sweet messages and valentine’s puns on the inside. I enjoyed the event because we got to be creative with our cards while being able to send some love to others for Valentine’s Day!

Bracelet Making Event Annabel Chia Freshman The Bracelet-making service event was such an enjoyable event to attend, and making the bracelets was also a lot of fun! We made these kinds of bracelets in elementary school and it was also fun to dive back into that nostalgia. It was a great event since we were able to take a trip down memory lane with the bracelets while also making them help others for a service project as well. I’m happy that the bracelets made will also go towards a great organization, and I’m sure the children would love the bracelets as much as we enjoyed making them. Warm welcomes is a great organization that helps many children, and I’m glad I was able to make any contributions!!

D34N CMN Story Time Lauren McCarthy Sophomore During this division event, hosted by Hillsdale high school, we made cards for the Children’s Miracle Network. The Children’s Miracle Network is a nonprofit organization that works to help children and their families get the right medical care they need. Additionally, we had the opportunity to record ourselves reading a story to be shown to the children. I really enjoyed decorating cards and listening to music. The choice to create the storytelling recording was a very creative and unique option, and I really appreciate that they made that option open to us.

9

Lisa Nguyen Senior Hillsdale high-school hosted this letter writing event & recording of children books for kids at the Children’s Miracle Network. It was the first time there were breakout rooms based on music preferences you liked which I enjoyed. I was in the Taylor Swift room and listening to her songs made the event more enjoyable overall. It was also the first time we’ve recorded ourselves reading books and thought that was a fun part of the event, so it’s not all letter writing. I’m glad Hillsdale, a club we’ve done many interclubs with, hosted their own division event.

Britney Fong Junior During the February DCM, we had a chance to meet and familiarize ourselves with all the LTGs from R17! It was really fun to get to hear everyone’s responses to the Q and A and meet the new elects who I didn’t know before! In addition, we attended the monthly DCM to review new events, recognition, and our progress on the district/division goals. During this session we also had a bonding activity featuring our LTG, which was a lot of fun to get to know her better! Finally, we also wrote/sent virtual letters to St. Jude’s Hospital for a service project. This event was a lot of fun as a social and service project combined into one!

March SO SP: March of Dimes

What does SOSP stand for? SOSP stands for Spotlight on service program. Every month we have a different organization that we direct our service projects towards.

Note of Hope Interclub Write a note to a mom or dad to be or to a family with a baby currently in the NICU. Sharing your advice, experience and words of encouragement. Write a note to healthcare providers, making sure that moms and babies are receiving the best possible care. RSVP: bit.ly/NoteOfHopeInterclub

15

What is March of Dimes? March of Dimes leads the fight for the health of all moms and babies. We believe that every baby deserves the best possible start. Unfortunately, not all babies get one. We are changing that. For 80 years, March of Dimes has helped millions of babies survive and thrive. Now we’re building on that legacy to level the playing field for all moms and babies, no matter their age, socio-economic background or demographics. We support moms throughout their pregnancy, even when everything doesn’t go according to plan. They advocate for policies that prioritize their health. We support radical improvements to the care they receive. And we pioneer research to find solutions to the biggest health threats to moms and babies.
