A Message from yo ur

What’s up Scots! September was a month full of service opportunities, social events, and fundraisers! As a club, we have done a phenomenal job at continuing to serve our community, despite the challenges that we may face. It is truly amazing to see all your lovely faces, every Wednesday for club meetings and Fridays for service events. This newsletter recaps our September events and goes into October events. Be on the look out for QR codes to scan, as they contain RSVPs and more. I highly recommend that everyone continues to help serve our community by attending our events and meetings. You guys have blown us away in September, let’s do it again! With that said, enjoy the October newsletter!

Best,

Claire Tseng

Thank you so much for attending all of our club meetings and events this past month. We’ve gotten so many new members this term and it’s been so nice seeing everyone and getting to know you!! Although it’s definitely difficult volunteering and meeting during distance learning, it’s been super impressive seeing you actively reaching out and participating with us. Keep up all the great work and I’ll see you at our next events :))

By Carolina Cuadros (sophomore) The Carlmont key club event color a smile was an extremely fun event. I loved this event because it was really fun to color the sheets that we got to print out. It makes me really happy to know that these drawings can lighten up a child’s day. The thought of impacting someone with positivity is such a good feeling and makes you feel like you can make a difference in someone’s life without ever even meeting them. During the event, some of the members and officers shared what they drew, which I think helped our club members bond more and get to know each other. The whole event was so much fun and one of my favorite parts was getting to pick which coloring sheet to fill in because there were so many cute options! I would definitely recommend others to come join key club service events like these because it’s super relaxing to get to listen to music while color in a sheet and helping out the community. Thanks key club for hosting such a lovely event!

By Sanjna Sood (sophomore) With the new school year starting and now that we are one month in it is important to catch the interest of freshmen and new members in general. After our key club 101 meeting with our guest speakers we had our UN WFP Free Rive service event. This event is a great way to volunteer on your own time when the club doesn’t have any scheduled events and/r projects. We had a turn out of 28 volunteers for a total of 28 hours, a majority of which were new members!

By Annabel Chia (freshman) Kindness rocks was a fun online event where members of the division came together to paint on rocks. The event consisted of breakout rooms with an icebreaker and then moved onto painting encouraging messages on rocks. The inspiring messages on the rocks were made to spread positivity and bring joy to people who saw them. The members then brought the rocks to a dropoff location which were then distributed to continue spreading the joy in various communities.

By Lina Saleh (freshman) During Operation Gratitude, 116 persistent and sentimental students came together to write sincere letters to our country’s finest in order to commemorate the tragic occurrence of 9/11. We wrote letters to the likes of first responders, firefighters, and medical professionals. To them, we wrote sincere letters of gratitude, and we reminded them of their memorable accomplishments. At the event, although there were 116 participants, there was a sense of friendship between the participants, old and new. In the chat, we shared song suggestions, opinions on artists, and bonded over our mutual favorite artists. I thought the event was a great way to commemorate the occurrence of 9/11, and it was wonderful to meet new people (at the largest Key Club event I have attended). In these unprecedented times, joining extracurricular activities may not seem like a priority. Personally, I think joining extracurricular activities is quite a crucial step to take in order to meet basic human social needs. I’m fairly new to Key Club, and as a Freshman, I don’t get to meet many people. At this event, I felt like I got to make friends and bond with people despite not having met them or spoken to them prior to the fact. I am so glad I participated in this event- it truly showed how Key Club is more of a family than a school activity.

O cto ber SOSP :

UNICEF

What is UNICEF? What does SOSP stand for? SOSP stands for Spotlight on service program. Every month we have a different organization that we direct our service projects towards.

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF The club has signed up again to participate in the fundraiser for The Eliminate Project (alias MNT), a partnership project between Kiwanis/ Key Club and UNICEF to eradicate MNT from the underserved countries. Details will be communicated in an upcoming email from the Fundraiser Committee Chair, Iain Weissburg.

13

UNICEF works in the world’s toughest places to reach the most disadvantaged children and adolescents – and to protect the rights of every child, everywhere. Across more than 190 countries and territories, we do whatever it takes to help children survive, thrive and fulfill their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. The world’s largest provider of vaccines, we support child health and nutrition, safe water and sanitation, quality education and skill building, HIV prevention and treatment for mothers and babies, and the protection of children and adolescents from violence and exploitation. Before, during and after humanitarian emergencies, UNICEF is on the ground, bringing lifesaving help and hope to children and families. Non-political and impartial, we are never neutral when it comes to defending children’s rights and safeguarding their lives and futures. They never give up.
