Newsletter Editor
Hey Key-uties! I’m Claire Tseng, a junior, and I’m ecstatic to serve as Carlmont Key Club’s newsletter editor for the 2020-2021 term. I am also the Service Project Committee Co-Chair, and I’m happy to share what events we have in store for you. I can’t believe the school year has already started! I know that sitting in front of a screen for 6+ hours a day isn’t easy, and remaining engaged can be even harder. Additionally, don’t be afraid to reach out to your peers for help. This strange and new environment presents many blind turns. Reach out to the peo-
ple that care about you the most, whether it be a friend, family member, or Key Clubber. Thanks to all our volunteers who participated in our events in August! We had a total of eight zoom service opportunities, a social Kahoot event, and three freelance service events. For September, we will continue holding service and social activities online via zoom and service opportunities that you can do on your own time. Don’t forget that we also have interclub and division events that you can attend! Lastly, please help us recruit members! Anyone from freshman to our lovely seniors, everyone is welcome. We must continue to serve our community and support one another during this time. Please remember to continue to remain socially responsible, so that we can get through this together. With that said, enjoy September’s newsletter :) Thank you and stay safe,
Claire Tseng

D34N Personalized Note Cards Service Event Jefferson Key Club hosted a personalized note card event on the afternoon of Friday, August 14. At the event, we made cards with positive messages and decorated them with colorful drawings. The notes were for families experiencing homelessness to help them feel loved and cared for. We used markers, colored pencils, crayons, stickers, and other materials to create fun cards that would be sent to the organization, World Harvest. From World Harvest, these personalized note cards, along with bags of groceries, would be distributed to families. It’s rewarding knowing that the cards we made could bring encouragement to someone’s life and brighten their day. I enjoyed making cards at this event, and I’m so happy we could bring some joy to families going through tough times! - Jocelyn Owen

Cards for Hope Interclub Service Event On August 20th, Carlmont Key Club participated in Braid Mission’s Cards of Hope service event, alongside Aragon, Lowell, Jefferson, and Sequoia’s Key Clubs. We created birthday and encouragement cards for kids in the foster systems of San Francisco, who received them through their social workers. Each card was filled with drawings and stickers, complete with a little note wishing the child well. I thought this event was super important since most of these kids never receive birthday or holiday cards, and it was nice that we could be that for them. Overall, this event was super fun, and it was nice knowing that these kids would receive the cards and feel a little more loved. - Marrisa Chow

Joke Book Making Service Event 7
The Joke Book Service Event was an activity in which we made homemade joke books to send to patients at Hospitality Homes in Boston. During our meeting, the club leaders provided several resources for amusing jokes to add to our books. We decorated the mini books with colorful drawings and stickers to make them more enjoyable for the children receiving them. As each club member read aloud their favorite jokes, I found the experience to be very entertaining. The service was a very creative and accessible way to spread happiness and laughter to those who may need it. Knowing that my book might make someone smile made me grateful to be a part of the event. I am also glad that my endless pile of stickers will be put to good use. - Jackie Welte

D34N Aragon Origami Bookmarks On August 5, members of Division 34 North gathered to participate in Aragon’s Origami Bookmark Event. The bookmarks created by the participants will be sent to the organization, Schools on Wheels Massachusetts, to encourage students to read. School on Wheels was first created to provide homeless students with an opportunity to thrive despite their circumstances. What started as a program in Cheryl’s basement has expanded into an organization that has donated backpacks to over 5,800 students. School on Wheels also offers tutoring sessions for those that lack resources. At the event, attendants had an enjoyable time folding their origami paper into a practical page biter bookmark. Participants were also able to customize their bookmarks and get creative with their design, which satisfied many. Overall, participants had a remarkable time as they were aware their contributions are positively impacting the community. - Amber Chia

Greeting Card Social Service Event
The Greeting Card Social Service event was enjoyable and social. As a club, we spent time decorating greeting cards for seniors that are isolated due to shelter-in-place. The cards we made were colorful and pretty! This was also a social event, so we played some fun games! It was nice to see all of the fantastic cards we made! We had a total of 20 members for 29.5 hours! - Sanjna Sood

P T P : P S O S r e b m e t p e S What does PTP stand for? PTP stands for the Pediatric Trauma Program. Pediatric Trauma remains the leading cause of death and injury among children ages 14 and under in the United States. The mission of the Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) is to develop local projects which will reduce the number of children in our three-state District who are killed or injured by trauma, ensuring all children live happy, healthy and safe lives. They work to prevent pediatric trauma by providing community outreach, education and materials to children and families living in the communities. They continue to work to spread knowledge about PTP and work with partner hospitals to provide safety equipment and information about childhood trama prevention.
What does SOSP stand for? SOSP stands for Spotlight on service program. Every month we have a different organization that we direct our service projects towards.
